My girlfriend bought the Groupon deal to this place, so we made this our last stop of the afternoon after our Sonoma on the Spot tour of three other wine tastings. After three very enjoyable tastings, R2 was a bit of a let-down.
When we walked in, there was absolutely no evidence of life. After a little hollering, a young woman came out, welcomed us, and handed us a wine list for the tasting. The wines weren't particularly spectacular, but they weren't bad either. There wasn't much in the way of conversation (she didn't seem particularly enthusiastic, but then again, it must have been a slow day), until another patron came in.
Our deal allowed us to take a bottle home and have $15 towards a purchase, so we got a bottle of chardonnay and pinot noir and called it a day. The wines were alright, but if we were to come here again, we'd probably wait until the weather wasn't so hot and probably at any time other than a Sunday afternoon.
Bought a Groupon for the wine-tasting, but had a less than fabulous experience. Â We were the only ones there. Â The young lady who was the server seemed very unenthusiastic, and even a little impatient when we didn't quite understand the explanation of what wines were on the tasting tour. Â One of the owners/winemakers came in, and with his bubbly personality, we felt quite welcomed, but the entire wine-tasting experience lasted only about 15-20 minutes, and we weren't overly impressed with the atmosphere nor with the wines. Â We were really looking forward to this, since we're fairly new on the 'wine-tasting' circuit, and were very disappointed.
Review Source:R2 is a great gem. Â Less than a five minute walk off of the plaza, it offers a very stylish interior and quaint outdoor patio on Broadway. Â The wines are all great, and very fairly priced. Â I highly recommend joining the Ambassador's Club. Â Service is warm and welcoming and not overly sales-y; well-educated and friendly. Â Definitely recommended stop.
Review Source:Went during normal business hours and a note on the door said they were away for another 20 minutes. I walked 3 blocks out of my way to get there and I was on too tight a schedule to wait around. I'm a big supporter of small wineries but if you don't have sufficient staff to be open when you say you will then just be open by appointment only. I apologize if there was some type of emergency but otherwise it just seemed amateur
Review Source:I loved this place! It's in a small little home-like setting and very casual, unlike the ritzy wineries you'll find in Napa that you get sick of once in awhile. The guy that works there (totally forgot his name :() was VERY nice. He explained the wines well and was very welcoming.
The thing I most loved about this place were the prices! You would think that this meant the wine didn't taste good, but it did. Honestly, I thought this was some of the best wine I had in my whole trip to the Napa Valley area. we ended up buying 3 bottles, but I wish we had bought more.
It's very easy to miss so I hope more traffic comes their way!
I didn't feel too welcomed here. Â While they have a decent tasting menu for a good price, when I asked for some explanation on the wines, such as tasting notes and their origins, just any background information, the server just pointed at the list from the tasting menu that has all the wines and a brief description and asked us to read it ourselves. Â What if I can't read??
I actually did not care for most of the wines that I tasted on the menu. Â I think there was maybe one or two that I enjoyed out of eight of them. Â I am not a fan of the dump bucket (why dump it when you can drink it?), but this time I utilized it, and I utilized it well.
The decor, I suppose, is OK for a wine bar, but it just gave me a very cold feeling, and doesn't have the intimacy that a wine bar or a tasting room normally portrays.
R2 is just far enough from the Sonoma Square that it might often get skipped, but I definitely recommend you make a visit here. Â Mind you, it's only about a block and a half from the square, but it's easy to become lazy when you're wine tasting!
It was a warm day when Erin S. and I visited, and as we entered R2, it was cool and uncrowded. Â This spot seems very popular with the pedicab patron set, and it wasn't long before bikes started pulling up and the place was full.
The guy pouring the wines was super mellow, almost to the point of seeming a little sleepy. Â But he was very nice, and became a bit more chatty as the room filled up. Â I enjoyed their whites, reds, and even the Hannah Rose, which is a very nice dry rose. Â Wines are reasonably priced. I only bought one bottle this time around, but I am sure I'll be back for more.
My wife and I tried R2 as part of our recent Sonoma pedicabs tour, but, unfortunately, we did not love R2. Â All the wine was ok, but nothing really jumped out to us. Â There was nothing that we felt that we HAD to buy, even though they were giving us a special deal because we were with the pedicab. Â Some of the reds -- which they said were their best wines -- were served a bit too cold, which was a real turn-off. Â All the wine was reasonably priced (all around $25 or less) and the service was friendly enough, but I don't think we'll be heading back there anytime soon.
Review Source:pretty good wine..bought two kinds..the hanna rose and the rhaspody..it's quite small..but they specialize more in pinot noir..wasup with that..the hanna rose wasn't bad..
customer service? not TOO bad..could of been better..but later on it was quite chatty..overall..small place..new in town..been there less than a year..wine is good though and cheap tasting..though I didn't pay because I was with the pedicab
Intimate, sexy and top notch - that's my description in 3 words (I'm counting top notch as one word). Â This is the reincarnation of Roessler wines, well known for Pinot Noir. Â Here, we tried some yummy chardonnay; a neat white blend; a delicious Pinot; and a red Rhone blend - wow! Â The hostess/guide, Erin, was friendly and knowledgeable, making it a wonderful experience. Â For a charming, cozy tasting, don't miss R2.
