Great beer selection. We had the steak tips and fish and chips. Loved both. Both were cooked perfectly. Mashed potatoes were made with thyme and delicious. Asparagus also cooked just right. Service was great. Have been looking for a good place in Walpole after living in Boston for 10 years. Will return soon.
Review Source:At 7pm on a Saturday night the wait for a table for 4 was 20 minutes. Not too bad. Â The wait for our dinner was a bit long - 30 minutes, especially since the table next to us was seated after us and received an app and their entrees long before us. They were leaving just as our food arrived. Â However, even though the wait for dinner was long, our server was very good about refilling drinks quickly and often. Â The food was worth the wait. Â Everything was delicious. Â Among our group we had a dinner salad, a pizza, a sandwich and the fish and chips. Â All excellent. Â We decided we'd like to return to try other menu items very soon.
Review Source:My friend and I were en route to Ikea when we suddenly really wanted lunch so we pulled off the highway, and looked for a tavern or somewhere that would serve beer and burgers. We ended up in downtown Walpole and The Raven's Nest caught our attention. The inside was fantastic. High tables, a bar, private tables and quasi booths. Plus, four big screen televisions showing the Bruins game. Sold! The menu was equally fantastic. Lots of things to choose from, a huge beer list, and some yummy sounding specials. I went with the Raven burger (onions, tomatoes and cheese) with fries but almost went for the roasted potatoes as I thought that was an interesting side option with a burger. My friend got a Reuben which looked very deliciously. He decided to try the cranberry coleslaw (well, he ordered it so I could try it as sides were $1 extra). Neither of us were particularly impressed with it- I thought it'd be made with a cranberry mayo but it just had loose cranraisins thrown in. I enjoyed my burger and the ambiance. The price for two meals and a beer was also really good. The place was very loud- so be warned. We could barely hear each other. Our waitress was nice, and I think we'd definitely stop in again if we found ourselves craving a burger in Walpole!
Review Source:Always seasonal specials, ask the server. Bartenders Tim and Rachel are awesome and really take care of the customer. Â We have been coming to The Raven's Nest for a while now, I don't know why I haven't written a review earlier. Â My husband and I almost always sit at the bar, and we are very well treated and taken care of. Â The food is fresh and delicious. Â FYI if you come here on a Friday or Saturday night, make sure you come a little early because it starts to get packed around 6 pm. Â This place really should have 5 stars!
Review Source:Oh my God! The food here is phenomenal! Gourmet food served in hearty portions without the pretentious atmosphere or ridiculous prices. My fiancé and I went here for date night and were immediately impressed by the atmosphere. The small, cozy feel with medium-dim lighting and a heavy bar made for an almost romantic atmosphere. The TVs hung every five feet on the wall and close seating seemed to unnecessarily twist it into a sports bar. Is there such a thing as too many TVs?
After a reasonable wait, we got to our table and ordered the "special" mussels appetizer to start. For dinner, she ordered the apple cinnamon goat cheese salmon and I ordered the steak tips "a la Harry". Â I honestly can't say enough about the food! That's why this place get five stars from me: on the food alone.
The service was average, with a few minor hiccups, but no major issues. When the hostess seated us, she came to find us, told us our table was ready, and (before we could gather our belongings) almost disappeared. Luckily the place was small and I saw where she went. The only other thing that comes to mind is once our appetizer came out, we had to wait briefly before we got our plates and silverware, something that should have been brought out after placing the order. Again, not a real issue, but a minor inconvenience. Luckily the food far outweighs any issues we had and we will most definitely be back!
Great food and the chicken pesto sandwich and the Mexican sandwich are fantastic! Â Great portions!
I love the food but 2 areas of concerns. Â The service is spotty at times and the 2nd more important issue for me (I'm not a big drinker) is the soda selection is awful! Â Just pony up for Coke or even Pepsi! Â I don't know what the soda selection is but it really is terrible and tastes like soapy water. Â Â Fix the soda issue and I'd give them a 5 stars as I can deal with spotty service because of all the sports on the TV's!
I found this place in April while I was visiting family. I live in SF. I noticed it while driving to the hospital visiting my mom. When I mentioned it to my sister, she too had wanted to try and my niece already had. Our first visit was on a busy Friday evening.
Despite the fact that it was busy, we were seated very quickly had great service and
really enjoyed the meal. We have an Irish background and I noticed that they have music on Sunday afternoon. We returned again on Sunday to witness an authentic
Seisiun. It is the closest to Ireland that I have witnessed from MA to SF.
The restaurant is clean, warm & inviting. We also loved that family is so welcome.
Unfortunately I am still visiting my mom in the hospital. I just revisited and returned to the restaurant twice. The first time was later on a weekday evening. Despite having a political event, we were welcome and found seats at the bar.
The service again was great. We waited a bit for food which was not a problem.
I had Salmon. It was great.... I returned later in the week impromptu...
I did not know they served lunch. I picked up lunch  to go for my mom.
The bartender was fantastic he recommended the pork chop.
It was outstanding....an amazing value. The food, prep, flavor, presentation and service still lingers in my mind. I am looking forward to the next visit!
Highly recommend
Third time at this place and as they didnt have the ribs on special had to try something else off the menu. Â this time tried out an appetizer special, sambucca mussels. Nice PEI mussels seemed to be a strange pairing with Sambucca, but have to say this really worked well. So well that was left wishing we had some more bread to sop up a the juice left in the bowl. Entrees were good too, I went for the steak tip sub, crusty bread, tender tips while my pal had a salmon dish he was well pleased with. Â Got lucky and got seats at the bar in a busy Friday night when we walked in and enjoyed the atmosphere and banter with the bar staff. Would be nice to see a few more Irish specials on the menu (meat pies anyone?), but have to say a great place for a drink and dinner
Review Source:Dear Raven's Nest -
On our many recent trips from Bellingham to Walpole to see our Mom in the nursing home and hospital...the Raven's Nest has been a comfortable stop along the way.
On our first trip, I ordered the steak tip sandwich; the tips were satisfying and the bread was crusty and delicious! Â My husband had the fish & chips...what a lovely piece of cod! Â It was a generous portion, the fries were great and the slaw was too. Â Our kids had the burger & chicken fingers...both were generous enough for a grown up, but nicely done...as the fingers were home made.
The service was super! Â and the pub itself is very homey and comfortable.
Our second trip, I ordered the 1/2 Reuben and soup combo...I wished I skipped the soup (although it was yummy) and just got the Reuben! Â It was delightful...the corned beef was hand carved and the perfect amount of juicy, salty, goodness....
My Mom had the Shepherd's Pie....it was lovely. Â A generous portion, with seasoned beef, vegetables and mashed.
The chicken wings were really good too....tangy, a bit spicy and meaty.
My only negative was the dessert. Â I ordered an egg nog, bread pudding....it was mostly a very...dry... bread. Â Although, my son enjoyed his brownie sundae...my husband said his molten chocolate cake "lost it's lava"...my recommendation to the Chef; stick to the basic, easy to make desserts, and forgo the "fancy" stuff.
Other than that...we will be back for the great service, nice atmosphere & the REUBENS!
Best,
L
An Irish Seisiun in America is just the most beautiful thing. Living with the soul alive. Instead of sprawling out to shop, old and young come together to remember... and sing. Â Working class pride. What have we forgotten? Or never learned? And I'm not even Irish. Â The eggplant Parm is good too.
Review Source:Wow , How did I miss this one been here before and it was bland but by happenstance gave it a shot for lunch as a couple of other go to places' power was out due to Hurricane Irene. They must have changed chefs as I had an awesome Reuben Sandwich....Now I know you are probably thinking why is he so Geared up about a Reuben Sandwich....wait for it.......its coming.....because it was awesome...I am an afficiando of Reubens and why this excelled was because it was the most unique Reuben I have ever had as the meat was hand carved as evidenced by big chunks os Corned Beef not too much salt and tender, a little Kraut and dressing.. Wow this could should be their signature sandwich..my friends and I had a wonderful time good fries good service,,,
Review Source:Actually, I'd like to say 3.5. Â What was good was good, but the rest was ok.
We were greeted immediately and sat by the door. Â I was a bit worried because I can get chilled, but they had the temperature controlled.
First, the wings were AMAZING. Â Really, really good.
Second, we had the special burger with blue cheese in it. Â The burger was cooked to order, but the flavor was missing. Â The fries were undercooked.
The service was really very very good. Â Chatty, casual and friendly without being overpowering. Â
I'd say kick the flavor of the burgers up a notch and it would have been 5 stars.
I was pretty excited for The Raven's Nest. My friend suggested it and sent me the link of the menu the day before. I looked at the menu and was very impressed. There were about 5 things on there I could order and probably be happy with. I excitedly agreed to the restaurant choice and decided I would get the Apple and Walnut Salad, with salmon.
The service was great, we were seated right away and waited on by a very cheerful waitress. They were out of the French Onion Soup, the Reuben, and the Jambalaya. This was a bummer for my friend, who was bringing food home for her BF, whose first choice was the Jambalaya, second choice was the Reuben. Hmmmm. Anyway, I ordered my salad specifically because I thought a chardonnay vinaigrette sounded pretty unique. My salad arrived without the walnuts and with a raspberry vinaigrette. It's pretty annoying that they missed one of the ingredients in the name of the salad. Also, the entire reason I ordered the salad was to try the dressing. The apples were grilled with the fish, and had absorbed the taste of it. Fishy apples? Did you do that on purpose?
Disappointing because I was really excited to eat there, but this meal fell flat. Service was good, food was not.
Went for dinner on a friday night. Â The kids ordered off the kids meal - quesedilla and chicken tenders. Â Milk is included and the whole thing is $4 - a pretty good deal. Â Legit chicken tenders too - not shaped like a dinosaur or anything. Â I had a pizza with goat cheese - very good. Â My husband had a pesto chicken sandwich which he loved. Â He had the 'greens' on the side and it was sauted spinach, artichokes and garlic - super yummy. Â We had a very long wait for our dinner, but it was a Friday night and the restaurant was full at that point. Â (I think it was my pizza that held everything up). Â The music was kind of loud for 6 o'clock and I actually mentioned it. Â (at that point the place was full of families with kids). Â They turned it down which was awesome. Â Will definitely head back.
Review Source:Went back to The Raven's Nest this past week to beat the heat.
Wings - still very good.
My wife's White Pizza got thumbs-up from her.
I ordered a Med-Rare burger & sweet potato fries again. Â Both came out as requested. Burger was cooked to a perfect Med-Rare (though, I did get the Onion/Mushroom/Swiss burger, with "Cajun Mayo", and was disappointed w/ this option, but not with the burger itself). Â The fries were "sweet" and very good - nice & crispy, not oily at all.
I've upped my rating to 4-stars, and can now explore other options on the menu.
