My girlfriend and I wanted to try something different from our usual go-to places on Devon, so we dropped in and had dinner at Ravi. We've walked past a number of times and always been drawn by the big tandoori in the front window and the cook making the food right there too.

We were that at about 7 on a Monday and apart from a few people who came by to pick up carryout, we were alone. I would have felt strange about that but also noticed every other place was also empty. I chalk it up to being Monday and absolutely freezing cold outside. I have walked past this place on weekends and seen it packed.

Anyway, we ordered chapli kebab, frontier chicken, parathas and garlic naan. The friendly host warned us that the chapli kebab was quite spicy and I told him we like it that way. It made me happy because so many places have weakened their spice for the white folks who go in there. :( We both like flavorful, spicy food and were not disappointed. The food was as expected for a kebab house, meaning it was hot and yummy, plentiful and inexpensive. The chapli kebab was made properly with the coriander seeds and enough spice to feel it but not be in extreme pain, very tasty. The frontier chicken was awesome, the best I've had in a couple years. Breads were delish, parathas large and hot off the griddle, naan fluffy and buttery.

Portions were generous. We were stuffed halfway through the meal and brought the rest home for lunch the next day.

The dining area itself was clean and comfortable.

We were happy and will be back.

Excellent quick take-out. Had Chili chicken and Frontier chicken. Different but very flavorful. We got spicy. The Naan cooks in a clay oven and is good as well. Lots of food, great value.

    Just Ok,

I was in the hood with a friend and wanted to eat something. We were walking around and saw through the window that they were making naan, looks good maybe we will eat here.

This wasn't my fist option but my friend didn't want to eat a completely vegetarian meal so he suggested that we ate here. We passed a couple of places that were busy with a lot of Indian diners, which for me is always a good sign, but no my friend wanted to eat a Ravi.

So we get in and are seated shortly. We were the only patrons at that time but shortly came in a couple so I felt some hope that this place would be good. The waiter comes I asked him if there was combination platter that we could try, we had a little language problem and I desisted. We ordered chicken korma, chicken curry, cheese, sesame and garlic naan.  I over heard the other party ordering the food "the most bland and least spicy possible" really???? at an Indian restaurant????  non of my business anyway.

We get the food and it was just ok. The chicken curry was just warm at best. The best part of the meal was the canned drink I got, LOL JK the best part of the meal was the naan.

The service  and  place just OK, with mirror in all walls, I don't really like that but that's just me.

Side note: for some strange reason I felt like I was eating at a restaurant in the Little Village hood, maybe it was the authenticity of the hood, the stores and the different food. Na, it was because the cooks in the kitchen were blasting some Vicente Fernandez music and the cook in the front was having a vivid conversation in Spanish with (I'm assuming) a friend.

RKH, should've gone with my gut (no pun intended) and ate somewhere else
