We called all the karaoke rental places we could find. Though they all had different company names and phone numbers, the same guy kept answering the phone. So much for finding the best rate for the best product.

The fee was surprising. Quoted rate plus a fee to pay by PayPal plus it turns out there's a fee for next-day pick up (which means a day's rental isn't actually a full day).

Delivery, while only slightly late, was messy. He drove across the neighbours' lawn, then nearly backed up his van into the house (he heard me shouting to stop when he was in the bushes). He then expected my help schlepping everything inside.

Though we'd asked what was needed on our end in advance, and we were told nothing, he needed tables to set up the equipment and expected us to move our indoor garden around so he could have the table the plants were on.

He told us there were 300,000 songs, including top hits, in the archive, but none of the billboard top ten hits from recent months were in there.

Then there was the pickup. Instead of our pre-arranged time, he emailed asking if he could come earlier. Fine. So we changed our schedule to accommodate him. A few minutes before the new time, he emailed to say he was running 1.5 hours late and expected us to accommodate him again. (It was not asked of us, it was told.) We had to negotiate his arrival, reminding him that he'd already changed the time on us. Customer service? He never once apologized for running late - or for backing into the bushes during dropoff.

Not worth the money.
