No summer is complete without a trip to Rosewood. Seriously the best. Massachusetts needs more places like this! Great seafood and ice cream all in one place.
I'd say go with a seafood plate. There's easily enough food for two people. They pile on the fries, onion rings, and fried seafood. It'll keep you full all day long. It is really the only place of its kind in the area.
The ice cream is also fantastic; a must have to cool down after a heaping plate of fried food.
Been coming here since I was a kid! It was the only place around that had great seafood that reminds you of the good ol' Cape! It's exactly like a seafood shack you would find in Cape Cod, but it's in the small town of Bellingham, Mass.
Since it's the only place around like that, it's a good thing the food is fantastic! The fried shrimp and lobster roll are excellent, and there is always a large selection of ice cream and frozen yogurt. Although it is a seasonal place, there are always plenty of people there when it is open. It is a great place for little kids, families, and adults that just want some good food.
I saw all the 5 star reviews and felt the need to throw in my own 2 cents. Â I know I'm probably going to get kicked out of Bellingham for saying that I don't worship the Rosewood Restaurant, but the good people of Yelp deserve an honest review.
I must have selective vision, because I didn't see any seafood on the menu (and it is a seafood restaurant) that I would describe as "cheap". Â The portions are pretty pitiful, and they feel the need to fry their food in what I must assume is old grease because it all has a very strange aftertaste.
The health department may want to check this place out because I didn't see anyone wearing gloves and we all definitely got the runs after eating here. Â (Well, after getting take-out since you can't actually eat there unless you get lucky and there's an open wobbly table inside or picnic table outside.)
I was intrigued by the ice cream selection, but after experiencing the seafood (and what it does to you) I'm glad I didn't chance it.
I've lived in the Boston area my whole life (I'm 47), I absolutely love fried seafood, and I've tried whole belly clams all over the state. I've never had any better than Rosewoods. I'll usually bring one of my kids here and we'll share the fisherman's platter/seafood plate, whatever it's called. It's absolutely huge, even my  teenage son and I don't finish the whole thing, so don't order that plate/platter thing by yourself unless you're a total glutton or you like leftover fried seafood. This place is an ice cream stand that happens to sell fantastic seafood, so it might not be the kind of place you bring a date to. Oh, and it's probably closed for the winter as I write this. I just created my Yelp account and couldn't wait to yelp about Rosewood.
Review Source:The boyfriend and I only eat one thing when we go here (about once a month during open season) and it's the Seafood Plate. You get a bit of everything in this generous box of yummies. We always order all fries instead of the usual fries/onion rings combo you will get otherwise. Not that their onion rings aren't delicious. They just give you too many to consume in one sitting, and we'd rather binge on their delicious fries.
The seafood is fried to perfection. You get haddock, clams, shrimp and the sweetest scallops this side of the Cape. One order is more than enough for two! At $18, it's also a perfect price to share.
We've never had to wait when we call ahead. It's always ready ten minutes after we hang up the phone. Lemon slices are available on the counter. I usually skip the tartar sauce, but I like theirs when I have it.
Their ice cream is delicious and the kids they have on staff are well trained and very polite. I have had their lemon sorbet (a creamy Italian Ice - so yummy), the pomagranate chip (great combo) and a lot of their regular ice cream flavors. The fro-yos are also very very good. But what beats all is their GIANT soft-serve cones. I recommend a layer of sprinkles on top. You won't be disappointed.
This little shack is the best place ever. I used to come here with my grandmother all the time. She would buy me an icecream and herself something and then we would sit outside in the fenced in area and eat our treats! I used to love the marry-go-round. My grandmother swore by it and so do i now.
Packed in the summer but i sware by its incredible icecream. Every summer whenever i get icecream i beg my parents to come here. It may have some traffic in tge way tgere, it might be really busy, and not much space to park: but it is the place to go to get icecream! Other food on the menu is good also like onion rings or hot dogs but my untimate favorite is strawberry icecream with chocolate jimmies in a sugar cone! Simply devine! It accually has real strawberries! Â I will never stop coming here and i will bring my generations to come here because if ur gonna get icecream go to rosewoods! :)
THE PLACE TO GO AND IS WORTH THE WAIT!!!!! Trust me! :)
A little hidden jewel. Â Cute little summer shack/ice cream spot.
They're only open from spring to fall though (just found out that they closed last weekend, poo!). Â I didn't even get to try their pumpkin ice cream!! Argh!! Well, something to look forward to once the warm weather returns :) Â I hear they have many different flavors that are delicious.
Don't worry if you don't instantly see the menu upon walking in. Â They're on the counter. Â Very wide selection from sandwiches to fried foods, this place has something for everyone. Â The young staff behind the counter are friendly and work hard. Â
The food was cheap and surprisingly VERY good :) Â Has a bit of a NY diner feel-- which isn't a bad thing at all :) Â
There's even a little picnic area outside along with a children's play area (with those little quarter rides you find in the mall).
Maybe a one-sided interview but here we go...
We have never actually eaten at the restaurant but we get the Ice Cream here ALL the time and it is DELICOUS! Pull up and pick from the usual flavors and then some, and take a seat over in the mosquito-free park.
Wonderful for a few people or all the kids or to go pick up some dessert for the whole family!
Great for afternoon endeavors or late on sunday night around 8ish. Definitely a family favorite and one of the 2 preferred ice cream servers in the area! You will not be disappointed with the setting and the ice cream :) !!
I moved to Bellingham very recently and my boyfriend suggested Rosewood because he grew up in Medway and LOVES it there. I was all excited about some fried seafood... but was greatly disappointed due to their tartar sauce that tastes EXACTLY like cinnamon. Now, I'm not chef or anything, but I generally don't like cinnamon with my fish (maybe that's just me). I even had the bf try it, he agreed, and we were both equally grossed out and couldn't finish our meals.. since then I've had a huge taste aversion to Rosewoods (so sad)..
But... their ice cream kicks some major A!! Delish!
UPDATE OF REVIEW: Â Food quality changes year to year, depending upon who's cooking. Â Last year's food was not too good - greasy fries that were unappealing and bland burgers. Â I'm not even going to bother going back this year. Â Too bad because 2 years ago I had a great experience there, as noted below.
My mother and I found this place over the summer. Â It's cute inside - reminds me of a place from the past in a good way. Â
First, let me tell you that the ice cream is to die for, especially the fudge brownie nut flavor! Â The portions are also quite generous. Â Two people can easily share a small and still go away satisfied. Â My mother kept bringing me back during her entire visit up north. Â
We also enjoyed the food on the menu - the burgers and the blts. Â Oh, and for a while there, they even offered this wonderful bottled soda that was orange cream! Â Don't know if they ever got it back in but it was great.
I'll definitely return here and bring friends for great ice cream, good food and nostalgia.
I've been eating at the Rosewood since I was a little kid!! Back before I could appreciate the allure of fried seafood, I was (and still am) a big fan of the burgers and of course the onion rings!! Those really make the meal. These days I usually get a clam plate, great portions, great taste, and well priced. After moving back home from a year of living down the street from Kelley's in Revere, I like the food just a little less, but I still eat here frequently.
The ice cream is a must-have as well. The flavor selection is great, and I love the unique additions, like pomegranate chip and maple walnut. My tried and true friend however is the chocolate peanut butter ice cream which is very rich.
The service here is always great and I love the outdoor seating. My only complaint is that it's not open year-round.
I was driving by this place and noticed "seafood" sign...so stopped in to try the fried clams. I got the clam roll and soda. It was good, nice size bellies and fresh, sweet tasting. Not like Kelly's where they taste "not so fresh". I will come back and try some of the other seafood offerings.
Prices were reasonable, order at the counter and find a seat. There is outdoor seating as well at picnic tables. They also serve burgers, ice cream, etc.
This place has great ice cream, both regular and soft serve. Â Try the pomegranate chip, it was terrific, with chunks of dark chocolate studded throughout the bowl.
Soft serve cones are giant and a nice treat on a hot summer day.
Little disappointed, with the lime rickeys, they are now being made with sprite!! ACK!
Dying for some good 'ol New England Fish and Chips but the hour+ commute to the Cape just isn't in the cards. Then take a spin on down to The Rosewood. Were you can find all the fun of being shore side minus the Bourne Bridge traffic jams. This is a great place for seafood, most of the dishes are of the gold crispy fried nature but they do have a large selection of burgers and sandwiches, if you're not feeling bashful give the foot long chili dog a whirl, you wont be sorry. If you've already had meal for the day try topping the night off with one of their scrumptious ice creams. Many flavors ranging from including Kahlua to Mint Chocolate Chip. My favorite being the peanut butter cup, of course in a cup. The Rosewood also has a large outdoor seating area, though you would never know by size of the lines waiting for frozen treats. All this along with a very courteous waitstaff, make this a great summer hang out after a little league victory or if you're looking night time indulgent after a hot day at the beach.
