We stopped here on the way back from Clearwater beach on a whim. Absolutely loved it... Best meal we had the entire trip! We brought 2 kids who loved it and had the seafood leafitt, herb crusted mahi and lots more. Very impressed with Brian our waiter who did a great job explaining menu and recommending items. If you like seafood and reasonable prices you will love this place.

Don't order an appetizer because they will bring out little sweet corn bread muffins that are DELISH and will refill them if you run out!

The food here is definitely worth stopping for!  The kitchen was super slow so we waited forever for our food, but it was worth the wait.  They have a super large outdoor area for seating with live music.  The music is also played throughout the inside of the restaurant.

If you are heading to Clearwater Beach, stop here for lunch or dinner.  You won't be disappointed.

Just great, they were out of the Ribs for the Wings and Ribs that I wanted.
So I went with the Rasta Pasta with Jerk Chicken. First off it was extremely dark where we were sitting, I wanted to use the light on my phone so I could eat. So I couldn't really tell if the chicken was cooked all the way through but I could tell it was definitely cooked by how dry it was. Not crying just saying. Overall it was a huge dish and huge enough that even I couldn't finish it. The Pasta was really good but different, and really that's what I look for. Otherwise I wouldn't go anywhere but just one Restaurant for the rest of my life and order the same boring thing. So much respect goes the Dish, I only wish I could of gotten the Seafood version, but I've developed an allergy to shell fish recently. Just great...
So I also was offered two sides with the dish. I said to the lovely waitress "two sides with all of that food?" Yes, so I ordered the veggies and cabbage. Holy smokes that's some great Cabbage! Highly recommend, trust me.
And of course my Lovely wife who loves this place got the Coconut Prawns. The plate looked great and I wish I could of had one.
Now the Salads are also very good too, not to much and obnoxious and not too little. Very fresh tasting.
Overall I give 3 Stars because I need to try more. You know what, I'll give 4 Stars because they have a good variety of options here and I like that, plus they have a nice outside Patio and Bar that looks chill.
We definitely will back soon when my In-Laws visit.

Excellent restaurant. Great food nice atmosphere and great prices!  Wish we knew about this restaurant sooner!! I had the filet migon, my hub had a seafood platter, we also had an appetizer, drinks, and dessert for around $50! Eat inside, out on the patio or around the Tiki bar- you can't go wrong with any choice!

5 stars for ambiance, food and pricing!

It's a "Bahama Breeze" type restaurant with low prices!

We had a smoked fish dip, fried okra, I had a crab stuffed salmon, my husband had a sampler platter with shrimp, chicken and ribs, and 2 sides come with every meal along with cornbread and a salad!  Also, house wine is only $3 per glass-same for domestic bottles!  After all this (I had 3 glasses, he had 1 beer) and it was $50, we even had leftovers!

Highly recommend because of the tropical, relaxed atmosphere, yummy food and very reasonable pricing.  Sit outside and enjoy the sunshine!

We only had appetizers and drinks outside but I would definitely go back. I would never have picked it myself because of the location/right in the middle of Clearwater/inland but I was pleasantly surprised. The service was good and the food was tasty. The calamari was not unique but well prepared - still soft with a light crispy exterior. The tuna nachos were a delightful surprise. They would make a great light meal.

Baystar restaurants are known across Pinellas County for many things, including fresh seafood, inventive recipes and quallity service.  When Rumba opened around 2007, it was positioned to be the more casual, less expensive Baystar offering.  It took a while to catch on, but Rumba is simply the best non-beach restaurant in Clearwater.  Starting with the jalepeno corn muffins, most dishes feature a tropical or southern twist.  The special lunch/early-bird menu is a huge hit with local businesses, as you'll regularly see about half the tables filled with local business people around lunchtime. The patio was added maybe 3 years ago.  It probably doubled the seating and almost makes you forget you're only a few feet from two major Tampa area roads.  I ran into a commercial fisherman who once told me that Baystar is known for buying and serving only the freshest seafood.  After years of regular dining at Rumba, I've never had a bad piece of fish. I've even used them for catering a few times, both times were a success and very reasonable.  Recommended dishes are any of their Mahi specials, the Seafood Lafitte, and the Chicken/Shrimp Quesadillas.  If you like Salt Rock Grill or Island Way Grill but want something more conveniently located, cheaper, and more casual, Rumba is a can't miss.

Great seating outdoor but that's about it.  Service was lacking, food was cold and I did not get everything I ordered.  Staff seemed to busy with others and the coffee delivery from Starbucks to be concerned with my drinks, food and needs. Won't stop by again.

Rumba is like a slice of island paradise smack dab in the middle of Clearwater. I went with friends to enjoy the beautiful weather on their patio last weekend.  The parking lot and patio/outdoor bar seating are always packed (a good sign of a great restaurant), but when we arrived, we realized the only outdoor table available was right in front of the speakers. These speakers were loudly blaring live music from a singer who was walking around serenading diners at their tables, but we found it too loud to be able to hold a conversation so we decided to move inside. This was fine with me as it was cooler inside anyway.

Rumba reminds me of an Outback steakhouse gone tropical theme. The restaurant offers an early bird menu from 11 AM - 5:45 PM daily (yes, even on the weekends, which gets a big thumbs up from me). The menu has a lot of choices including jerk chicken sandwiches and other seafood items in the $7-$10 range, which also includes 2 side items. Be sure to try some of the Mama Maria Jalapeno Muffins, which are a tasty starter because they have a great sweet/spicy mix (although I would say they could use some sort of butter on the side).Personally, I am a huge fan of the mahi mahi ocho rios, which is tender, delicious and topped with out of this world crab meat and hollandaise sauce. The coconut rice and island coleslaw are also both very well done. I once ordered the shrimp rice bowl, which I wasn't a huge fan of as it was extremely garlic-y, rather than having the "tropical" sweet flavor I had been expecting.

In addition to their extensive offerings of chicken, steak and seafood, Rumba also offers a full bar with excellent drink specials. These include $1.49 beer drafts (Bud, Bud Lite, etc) and always 2-4-1 sangria and their Signature Libation. On my most recent visit, I opted for the sangria, which was heavenly. It was perfectly sweetened with a dash of cinnamon (dare I even say it was better than some authentic Spanish restaurants sangria). I will definitely be going here more often on weekends to take advantage of the enjoyable environment, sweet sangria and marvelous mahi mahi.

Pretty darn good. I had the onion crusted salmon which was surprisingly good. I never would have thought to mix the flavors of frizzled onions and salmon. Definitely a good choice if you're looking for something different. We ate outside because it was warm and there were landscapers working. A table of about 10 older women called the manager over and told him that the workers needed to stop working...I thought that was a bit obnoxious considering that it's not like they were using loud tools for anything but that was what they did. It was very islandy...I did feel like I was on a tropical vacation somewhere...maybe the Bahamas. IDK. But the food was good, apparently the drinks were cheap and I had a good time.

Had some shrimp pasta that was very greasy and swimming in butter. The cocktails were absolutely fabulous. My friends who joined me visiting from Alaska enjoyed their steak. I did enjoy the variety of the sides that they offered with the meal. I'm giving this a 4 star only because I had a not so great meal but I'll probably go back and give something else on the menu a try. The staff was very nice and th e atmosphere was fun and busy.

Beefeater as the well gin is fantastic! We have been to the other restaurants in the group and have had good experiences in half of them. The atmosphere is relaxed and the early bird menu is perfect! Good potions with plenty of sides. Ribs were tasty while the montego bay chicken was juicy. Try the cranberry stuffing - totally worth it!!

Rumba's is one of my favorite places for seafood.  I've been there about 8 times and have never been disappointed.  I will admit the only thing I've eaten there is the seafood platter so I can't vouch for the other dishes. The seafood platter has always been so good I've just never ordered anything else.

There is plenty of seating both inside and outside.  The waiters and waitresses are friendly, the service is good, the prices are reasonable.  The overall experience of eating there is pleasant.  As you can probably tell, I would definitely recommend Rumba's.  Maybe next time, I'll try something other than the seafood platter.

Rumba very rarely disappoints. I'm a huge fan of the Coconut Encrusted Grouper Sandwich but everything I've tried here is great. Some other quick recommendations are the Island Quesadilla, and the French fries which are glorious curly style seasoned fries. All day, everyday features 2 for 1 happy hour specials and while they can be a light on the potency always present good value. Try the Rumba Libation!

I don't always make it to rumba when I visit Florida, but I always try.

Island decor & Marley playing on the speakers. Good start. Buy 1 get 1 daily margaritas even better. I tried the Rumba sampler & I recommend. Try it wit crab mac & cheese as one of your sides. Good stuff. Next time I am in Clearwater, I am definitely coming back to this joint

I live 2 minutes from this place and I have never stopped by. The parking lot is always packed and the place is always loud when I drive by. I decided after having an early dinner to check out some dessert and order to go.

I ordered the coconut cake and the rum cake. Upon waiting for my food at the bar I witnessed the kid busting tables was also the same person garnishing the dishes that came out of the kitchen. Wiping tables with a dirty rag and than putting plantains in peoples potatoes. I also saw someone stick their dirty hands in a bucket of cherries (juice and all) and put it in about 5 drinks. Ungggh. I got  home and opened my dessert to find what was a rock hard hostess coconut cake that you pick up at 7-11 and a rum cake that was more of a corn muffin that was microwaved with ice cream on the side.

Best part, I called the manager (nick, supposedly one of the partners in this restaurant) and he was a complete @$$. He said he was their garnishing dishes and stepped out for 10 minutes and that he didn't know what I was talking about. He said "Well what do you want me to do? Buy you dessert next time? Dude, you can keep that nasty 7-11 garbage and your dirrrrty hand infested cherries. Frank who is also a partner in this restaurant and owns Salt Rock Grille must not know what is going on here and if he does, shame on him....

Best happy hour I've run into locally. Interesting menu, lots of selections.
One of my favorite place for happy hour, and and an appetizer. Food is good, and you have your choice of seating inside and out. Our bartenders have been really good to us. Very friendly and attentive. Having a knowledgeable bartender does make a big difference.

This is a nice place to bring your group to party, or relax and watch the game on TV.

This was just ok. Nothing too exciting. It seems like it could be a fun idea, but on the evening I was there it was mostly a quiet older crowd. I ordered the Jerk Chicken Sandwich and it was completely bland. They did accommodate my friend who has special dietary needs, though.

We really enjoyed this place.  It's really beautifully decorated featuring a huge patio set on pavers with an outside bar.  Despite being on the corner of two very busy streets, they do a good job of shielding that traffic with a fine sound system and lots of vegetation.  They were also very smart in their layout having most of the parking to the side of the restaurant to minimize the car exposure on the patio guests.

They had an interesting selection of both appetizers and entrees.  Had a hard time mulling over my choices.  I had the rice bowl topped with jerk chicken since I wanted the Caribbean experience.  Very nicely seasoned with a little heat.  We had 6 in our party and everyone enjoyed their meal.

We went for a late lunch on a Sunday so it wasn't very busy.  The drinks were well prepared and service was quick.  They were also very kind and accommodating to our children.

I would definitely go back.  Think it would be a fun place to go with a group of friends.

I visited Rumba with a group of 12 of us taking a lunch break from a meeting.  It's located on the northeast corner of S. Keene and Gulf to Bay in Clearwater.  The building has lots of parking, and does its best to pull off its Caribbean island theme.  The best seating for our group was inside, and as the weather was pretty warm, it was a good choice.  I think I'd enjoy the outside on a balmy day.  I found all of the interior neat and clean.

Our time was limited so we were sensitive to the promptness of service.  We were seated quickly, got our drink order in and had a chance to check out the menu.  It features a nice selection of different-flavored island shrimp/seafood/chicken & rice bowls, about a dozen fresh seafood entrees, a dozen different meat dishes that are pit-fired, and sandwiches.   While the choice of the grouper & rice bowls and the pit-fired Caribbean pulled pork with mango BBQ sauce sounded great, my appetite matched their Jamaican jerk grilled chicken breast topped with peppers & onion better.

All of our party's orders arrived promptly, and there were thumbs up all around for each of our choices.  My jerk grilled chicken was cooked and seasoned well, with the jerk flavors not masked by too much heat.  I thought the value was good for the quality, and there are plenty of choices in all price ranges from $6 and up sandwiches to most all entrees in the $10-15 range.

Rumbas is on my list for a followup visit.

Was there sunday the 7th for lunch, while visiting relatives in Pinellas County.

I loved the ambiance, the food and the prices..and when the weather breaks next visit I will most definetely sit outside.

My Seafood Pasta was very tasty and filling I also tried a bite of the grilled Mahi Mahi and it was fresh, firm and delicious.

Whenever I travel North to the Sun Coast, I will make it a point to have some seafood there again.

    I highly reccomend it !!

OHHHHH I love this place so I am not sure about all of the average/negative reviews.

Most of the entree's have  Caribbean flair while the garnishes and sides have a cool and refreshing comfort......it provides a nice zen feeling on the plate.  Obviously, since you are so close to the water the menu is bursting seafood dishes but their turf dishes are just as tasty!

They have expanded the outdoor patio and planted more palm trees so it really feels like you are on a resort.....add in the steel drum player and a  few 2/1 drinks and you clearly forget that you are in FL.    (2/1 drink specials are available all night and both in the bar area and the dining room!)

On my past visit our waiter had some odd tendencies but nothing that could be considered rude or bad service. Overall, the staff is friendly and attentive.

Love the decor, enjoy the  food and drinks, and get a kick out of the vibe!

Food was average...nothing to write home about.

The pulled chicken salad had way too many blue cheese crumbles and the chicken was bland.

The shrimp bisque had a nice kick to it and the mini cheddar muffins were pretty good with a hint of jalapeno.

The bread pudding was nothing special. In fact, it was the first time in a long time that I didn't finish dessert.

As far as the service, our server was quite attentive; however, her tone was a little patronizing.

Not a place I will be frequenting.

Did somebody say RUMBA!?! This place is awesome! I love the decor, inside and outside. The food is amazing and I can't wait to go back and try something new. They had so many good things on the menu it's hard to choose just 1 or 2 things. I went on a Sunday afternoon and it was just beautiful!

This would be a great place to go at night with friends I would imagine. The owner said that they bring in live music on the weekends and it gets packed on Saturdays. I imagine that this is the place to be on a weekend.

Was intrigued because of some other reviews I read, obviusly not recently posted!

The outside tiki area is cute with fans and a large bar area as well as tables, but of course it's a smoking area and the combination of the stench of cigs and the humidity made us opt to eat inside.

Inside was a whole different story. Dark, outdated 70's polynesian decor with a dennys like atmosphere. We were seated by the sloth of a hostess next to a group of 8 blue hairs (never a good sign) and ordered drinks. They have a decent beer and select wine list so that was good.

We ordered conch ceviche and fried green tomatoes to start with. The tomatos of course were too soggy and not very good at all. THe ceviche was very good! Served in a large martini glass, with no crackers though, which it would of been nice to have.

After trying to ponder if we should stay or hit Fish Tail WIlleys we decided to have another drink and ordered the jerk wings with mango barbque sauce and the smoked fish dip. The wings were the best wings we've had anywhere! They're smoked on the "fire pit" and then glazed. The fish dip was very good too, except it was served with ritz which I dont' care for, but the fish itself was nicely made with not too much mayo or cream cheese like most places.

We found out the ribs, chicken, pork and steaks are all smoked in the fire pit before grilling so that's a plus!

The place looked (inside) like it really needed updating, cleaning and a younger crowd!

All in all, it was ok, I might pick up wings and fish dip to go, maybe even try the smoked ribs or jerk chicken but I'd avoid the rest of the menu and I probably wouldn't go back here again.

Oh, and the outside tiki hut was loaded with that 50something I do nothing but sit at a bar and drink pabst all day crowd, so that was gross in itself.

WARNING: Foreign objects in coleslaw... and like... really unsettling foreign objects.

First item found: A thin plastic cap which eerily resembled a syringe-tip.

Second item found: A small metal coil/spring.

So, basically, there was a broken syringe in the freaking coleslaw!!!!!!!

Wait staff was alerted. Waitress apologized. That;s it. They even denied a free dessert. WTF????

Went here with colleagues after a busy and stressful day. Rumba's was a nice change of pace from the Applebee's and Olive Gardens of America. It wasn't the best cuisine I've ever had but it was really delightful and we enjoyed our server's disposition.  Following such a great meal we went back the next night and all ordered something new; only one of us was happy with what we had selected. Once was the charm; twice wasn't as nice.

Average cuisine + lazy execution + spotty service = 1.5 stars

I dined here with the fam for the second time in a year.  What I remembered most about my first visit was that I left feeling "greasy". My second experience was, for better and worse, much more memorable.

Rumba has a large outdoor patio/seating area, surrounded by lush greenery. There is a cabana/bar outside on the patio. On a Saturday evening, a delightful solo act on a steeldrum sang and played familiar ditties in calypso style. The ambiance on the patio is great; it captures the laid-back vibe of Clearwater.

The inside seating area of the restaurant is a different story: stuffy and with the exception of those cool Caribbean vertical-spinning ceiling fans, it felt like a cross between Perkins and Bennigans, decor-wise. Like we did, you should definitely opt for the outdoor area, which is much more lively (at least in the winter).

The menu IMHO is poorly laid out, too. A lot of flipping back and forth, and some items simply had no explanation ("Fiesta salad" and "wedge" specifically). Take a look for yourself (<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.baystarrestaurantgroup.com%2Frumbaisland%2Fmenu1.html&s=ca91765a6dfc834aa868193a64f1933e5897f1d9b68312cb8beb79b38fc658de" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.baystarrestau…</a>). I was also confused by the "subsections" within the main sections, which conflicted with the descriptions of the "parent" section.

For an appetizer, we ordered "onion strings." The plate came out as a pile of loose fried onion bits (think a can of french's) with a single spoon of thousand island served in an asian-style soup spoon, placed atop the pile. No utensils or explanation of how to eat it was provided. Simply awful. This terrible mess makes the bloomin' onion at Outback seem like a Filet Mignon at Bern's.

I also ate a tomato salad with red onions, blue cheese and a balsamic vinaigrette dressing. It was pretty decent but the red onions were sliced way too thick, and the salad was drowned in the dressing (Chef, maybe take a look at this video? <a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DVfEG15CLTqo&s=14569cbfe79c9d72e013603e1f13727bf90be13a396548b48387fedb5adb3dc6" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/w…</a>)

For the entree i ordered a blackened mahi sandwich. It was served on focaccia bread, with two slices of raw cucumber and one dried up tomato slice. Uninspired. The side of coleslaw had sliced almonds thrown on top. Bland. When the server set the plate down, the dressing (which was again served in an Asian-style plastic spoon) was tipped over on the plate, and it spilled onto the table. The server did not even notice.

The fish was well seasoned and cooked, but was overshadowed by the other ingredients and the sloppiness of the plating.

The rest of the family got different variations; the rumba trio (ribs, chicken wings, fried shrimp); the coconut encrusted mahi, etc. I do give them props on the wide variety of side dishes they offer. If you order an entree, you can choose from two sides. I sampled most of them, which are Southern influenced, and they are generally very tasty. Also the mini corn muffins that are served as the bread basket are noteworthy.

Despite my attempts to be healthy with my choices, I again left with that greasy feeling as though I ate a heavy meal.

I can't believe that this restaurant is owned by the same group (Bay Area Restaurant Group) that gives us Island Way Grill and Salt Rock Grill, both outstanding. C'mon, guys, send over some help to Rumba and shape it up!

It's simply too hard to overlook the many small infractions to warrant a rating higher than 1.5 to 2.

So I've driven by this place that's on the corner of Keane Rd and Gulf to Bay Blvd a multitude of times and always been scared to go in due to the two crossed swords on their sign and you can't quite see the restaurant from the road, but there always seems to be a lot of cars outside, so today I dared to go in.

The restaurant is actually very nice, they have stone accents and an outdoor bar.  They have the doors open for an island feel, but you are still cool inside.  I was happy to see that they had "early bird" specials that were all under $10 and even the dinner menu was very reasonably priced (under $20).  Almost everything on the menu sounded good (macadamia encrused grouper sandwich, crabcakes, carribean pulled pork, etc).  I ordered the Crabcake with coconut rice and sauteed veggies (which I was pleasantly surprised to hear had broccoli, onions, red bell pepper, celery, carrots, and snow peas!).  They also had flavored teas (I had the peach) which was very good and they bring you out some cornbread muffins to start.

I am definently ready to RUMBA again!
