I was actually here a couple of weeks ago and had an incredible time. Apparently this is the main hang out of like...everyone ages 21-30 in the village which is great because of a lot of people I once knew go here and it's great to reconnect. Great atmosphere, good music, good people...always seems to be crowded which makes it hard to get a drink sometimes.
Best part of the night was when I was trying to get a drink and I noticed two large women whom both had strong accents so I asked, "Hey, are you two ladies from Ireland?"
One of them screamed, "It's Wales you idiot!"
So, I immediately apologized and said, "Sorry, are you two whales from Ireland?"
Yeah. The amount of fucks I give while intoxicated is none.
A lively, dark, loud place full of a bunch of heavy drinking dudes and a vivacious, loud, but friendly bartendress. Â Pours are honest and the prices are fair. Â I thought that the jukebox was turned up way too loud, however, and it's not a very relaxing place if you want to be mellow.
Review Source:Stopped by on a Monday night with a friend for drinks and some conversation around midnight.
Walked in and it was relatively empty, but what do you expect on a Monday? There were ~15-20 people there, mixed ages ranging from 20 somethings to 50 somethings. Â The bartender was friendly and attentive, we got our drinks quickly and they weren't bad for the price.
Ordered:
1 Gin & Tonic ($5)
1 pint of Fat Tire on tap ($4.50)
2 shots of Jameson ($12)
Be aware that it's CASH ONLY! Â There is a Bank of the West and Citibank in the same plaza, as well as an ATM inside the bar.
The other patrons were very friendly, we had a few random conversations and got to watch some sports reruns on their flat screens above the bar. Â Overall, a decent place to hang out and get slightly hammered on a weekday (especially being in the San Leandro/San Lorenzo area!).
First time here since it has new ownership. Came in on a Saturday night after 9PM and stayed until 11PM.
Upon our arrival the guy outside asked to see our I.D and then got the hand stamp of approval.
The bar looks to be pretty much the same as before. Since it was dark it might it hard to see the improvements I heard about.
There were over 20 people of all ages, young and middle aged. A laid back casual atmosphere.
We ordered mixed drinks during our stay, the bartender was super nice and prices were reasonable. The bar bar and bathroom were clean.
As it got later it got pretty packed and they had a DJ start playing. Â There was only one bartender and a bar back. She was working as fast as possible but with so many people it took awhile to get another drink. In no way was it her fault she was doing the best she could. I think they would benefit in having a second bartender on busy nights.
It is a great local bar that I would come back to.
so, came here after I dropped my boy off in my old hood at my folks haus. I grew up in "Shelly's" basically...sign o' the times. Ran into some old Shelly's folk. That was awesome. Ran into a junior highschool friend...also nice. I was really "nostalgic" that night. I needed a good night out. OWNER DUDE WAS TOTALLY RAD. Introduced himself. Drinks were decent. A couple of guys my age were playing pool and we were kooking together harmlessly.....until..................Some totally drunk young tart kept trying to pick a fight with me for no reason.
Here's my gripe....it's just a litttle too young of a crowd for me....plus, trying a lil' too hard to be bad asses. The bartenders were "mezza mezza" one minute super friendly the next, kinda rude. I'm not a "barfly"....not used to the scene I guess. I'll try it out again though.....next time my old ass won't wear my P.J.'s !
I have lived in this area my whole life i enjoyed shellys and now i like ryans better. this bar brings in some nice good people from the manor its like walking into porkys you know almost everyone. The best thing about ryans is even if you look over 21 they still check your id at the door. Great bartenders great music. The new owner is fitting in great
Review Source:Has it really taken me this long to review this place?
This is the kind of place that everyone wants in their neighborhood. Everyone is friendly, the bartenders know how to pour the drinks, you can get a little crazy - within reason (not that I ever do), and they have fun events on different nights of the week to keep things interesting.
They only take cash, but the ATM machine inside is cheaper to withdraw cash from than the two ATMs in the shopping center that it's located in (unless you happen to bank at one of them).
Hooray for Ryan's!
No Doubt the best bar in the Oakland Hayward San Lorenzo and San Leandro Area.
Always a great crowd with a lot of locals that are proud of there community. Â It's where you can always come in and not worry about "thugs" or gangbangers or too much of a trouble making crowd.
The owner did a great job of finding the HOTTEST yet still friendly and they are not too cool to talk to everyone!
Hit them up during the week Like Tuesday see stacy or Thursday and see Starla and play some flip cup or Beer Pong!
Okay this is NOT an Irish bar...but it is a cool dive bar. Recently renovated so the decor is modern and in pristine condition. No cider available but they do have Guinness on tap.
Bar stool, Â high cafe style table & chair, and couch seating available. The patrons are more or less "blue collar" and respectfully friendly.. Which s what I like about dive bars... People are not too cool to talk to you.
The bartender was super attractive AND friendly (which gets uber high marks in my book... I LOATH bartenders with attitude!!). I ordered a Guinness and decided it was WAY to hot outside to drink that heavy of a stout. I decided I would  donate my pint to the bar and the bartender offered to replace it with something else.  That's pretty awesome customer service IMO.
The bar is  Located in corner strip mall where all the shop marquees look the same... Which is kinda retarded because it doesn't look like there would be a bar in the complex. On the upside it does have a large parking lot associated with it.
Did not see any outside or back patio seating. There are two or three pool tables. A couple of big screen televisions. Don't recall seeing any pinball machines. I'm sure there was music... But  I can't recall what genre.
I don't usually drink in san Leandro but i was visiting a friend and we were hot & thirsty.  The bar seating was mostly occupied  at 4:30 on a Thursday. Located on a busy four way stop intersection w/ multiple restaurants, so it may be quite busy at other days/ times.
Aside from the lack of cider to drink, it's a very decent dive bar.
It's not some place I would drink on a regular basis... But it's great for what it is.
Ryan's pub has been refurbished and it's still very dark inside. the pool tables are now visible as is the virtual jukebox in the center of the room.
pours:
guiness(5.50)
-the head was 80% of the draft which came in a pint sized raider glass.
-kind of bitter and tasted stale, minimum not so fresh.
gin & tonic (3.75)
-big ass thick glass, above average pour: still sober afterwards
on draught:
-yep, ryan's looks nice inside
-didn't come here to look at the scenery
-came here to get drunk (Surprise! Surprise!)
-fridays special: Â bud(3)
I grew up in the San Leandro "Manor", so I am used to this being the old Schelly's bar. The original Schelly's owners sold a while back and the place kind of went downhill after that. Suddenly in March, Ryan's pops up! Â Through the vine, we found out that the new owner actually went to high school with my husband, so we were eager to check it out. So last Friday evening, I met my husband and some of his friends there; and boy what a difference! The inside has been renovated and the first thing you notice is that it is well lit, open, and airy....stark contrast to the old place. Upon closer investigation, I could see the fabulous work on everything from the bartop to the fireplace. There was a wide selection of beers on tap that were fairly priced; and if you wanted something else, it was easy to spot as the display behind the bar was attractively well arranged. It was around 7pm, so the evening crowd had yet to arrive. Of the people that were there, everyone was friendly, talkative, Â and seemed to be having a good time....we actually ran into our neighbor who used to live next door to us! The bartender was engaging, attentive, and fun....not to mention the fact that she did her hair up like Wednesday from the Adams family as it was Friday the 13th. Right before we were ready to leave for dinner, the owner dropped in and spoke with my husband for a while. I got to meet him and he seemed very pleasant. He shared with us his philosophy for the place and the atmosphere he was trying to set. So far it's looking good. I know we will be back again. Welcome to "The Manor" Ryan's! Â Keep up the good work.
Review Source:I have to say that I didn't go to Schelly's much when it was open because it was a little too divey for me. However, I love the new Ryan's Irish Pub. They really took a lot of care into cleaning and renovating the bar and they want to make it into a friendly, neighborhood gathering place which we desperately need n San Leandro. I also love the beautiful fireplace and the cozy seating area where they've put a couch and comfortable chairs. I'm looking forward to meeting friends there often.
Review Source:Ryan's Pub is beautifuly redone inside, great place to meet up with family and friends, very welcoming atmosphere, comfortable, affordable, really nice neighborhood bar ! Lots of big screen TV's throughout, Karaoke on Friday nights, clean, fun hangout !!
Been waiting for this place to re-open and it was worth the wait !!
I moved to the area last year. I still really don't know anyone in San Leandro, which prevented me from venturing out to the local bars.
Well my husband said he had drinks at Schelly's before and so after another long study session G and I went to grab a good old dive bar drink.
And it was great. It is a newly remodeled and opened place called Ryan's. Its a good Irish bar, with a juke box, a pool table and kareoke on Fridays. It was clean, bright and the bartenders were friendly, and kicked out people who got sloppy. There were a few big screens bar tables and regular tables - good for groups. My favorite part of the bar was the beautiful fireplace.
We were approached by a few neighbors, who were very kind and entertained by the fun-loving and quite good kareoke revelers. It was dive-y in spirit but clean as a whistle, granted they just opened on St. Paddy's.
We met the new owner, who one of the people dragged over to come meet the newbies, he was very welcoming. Cheer Ryan's, look forward to getting a few good drinks with you.
