Fantastic, and with the 2 for 1 special, a great deal

I thought that it was a very attractive and fun place.  The decor was classy but not pretentious.  The menu prices are not too expensive.  I would say this is certainly a higher end of casual dining.  The food is tasty, especially the duck and the meatloaf.  The beef stew was delicious but their choice of putting it over ziti noodles was puzzling when mashed potatoes would have been better.  The service was spotty.  There are waiter teams, so the person who takes your order, brings your drinks, delivers your food and presents the bill may be different people.  A downside is that the music is loud although it is good music.

By the way, I also got severe stomach upset from the food (like another reviewer here) but I thought that was because the food very rich.  A little food goes a long way here.

What do you do when you have an otherwise fine dining experience...and then one of your guests tells you a day later that they suffered food poisoning and had severe GI issues with one of the dishes they had?

Well, I dropped by the restaurant to just inform the manager. But, I was told he was not there and would not return for two hours but that he would return my call. The hostess dutifully took my name and number.

What do you do when you do not get a call back?

This is a restaurant which I have frequented several times over the years and have enjoyed their food.

I enjoyed their food this time. So, did my other guest. Indeed, everything was close to being spot on perfect.

But, I am very troubled by a restaurant operating without a manager on duty when open for business. I am troubled by the lack of getting back to me. We all know restaurants don't make a living out of poisoning their patrons. But, one would think the restaurant would care just a little. Am I being a bit over the top? I really do not know. "Food poisoning is so rare !

I guess my only recourse is to call the Health Department. Maybe they care about poisoning of Sage's patrons. The management certainly doesn't.

Took a friend on Tuesday 2-4-1 entrees with the purchase of a drink, she had never been.  We both were so very impressed with the bread and oil, the crepes and the minute steak.  Absolutely fab!  And what a brilliant piano player; this is truly a hidden, friendly, professional, lovely find.  We will definitely be back! .....just wondering if the bread comes from Crossiant Time across the street--I want to buy some!

This place was the perfect choice for Christmasing with The Law Offices of Friedland & Bocksch...we love our wonderful clients, doctors, medical centers, MRI companies!  Our best wishes for a wonderful holiday season!  Fabulous French restaurant with hugs bar area and incredible wine collection!  Great for private parties!

Had dinner last night, party of five. Actually went there specifically for the escargot. Escargot terrible. Consistency good, but gravy much too salty and not nearly enough garlic. Complained to the waitress and she said she would tell the chef. Otherwise, Duck was outstanding, lamb chops delicious and beef stew could become a favorite.
Unfortunately waitress never got back on the escargot because the chef was too busy in the kitchen to check it.  Service a little nonchalant.
    Oh well

This place is very nice. Their food is so rich and delicious. They often have deals for lunch, if I could afford it I would come here every day of my life!

The food was beyond incredible and decadent here. The refilled our water glasses as they got low and they gave us more bread before we even asked. I came here with a party of 7, they accommodated us with ease. We came on sunday, I believe during their brunch hours, so we were all able to get a free mimosa. A member in our party was allergic to oranges, so they offered plain champagne instead. The foie gras appetizer melted in your mouth, it was small, and I wasn't sharing. The crepes were not made too thick and the eggs that filled them were so light and prepared to perfection. The french onion soup was to die for. Not overly salted, well balanced with the cheese, onion, and bread ratio. The chicken and waffles were amazing. He didn't leave a single morsel on the plate, he said the chicken was very juicy and the outside was crisp. The brie and apple crepe was also worth mentioning, as well as the eggs benedict, and crepe al'orange. All in all, an incredible meal, everyone was satisfied and in taste bud heaven. They have great specials that run throughout the week, so I will definitely become a regular here. I'm already planning my next visit. I want to try their dinner menu.

I have been here twice with my wine club in the past.  The service was great those two times (why wouldn't it be?  20+ people buying dinner and several bottles of wine?).  Well, I took an old college friend from out of town here recently and I was completely embarrassed.  The food was decent but the service was AWFUL!!!  I thought I was in Europe where the wait staff does not pay you any mind.  When i commented about the poor service to management, they said "Oh, well you must have the wrong waitress".  Really?  The wrong waitress shouldn't be working there.  I will NOT be returning here and will have to think twice if my wine club returns.

I used to love this place, but not anymore after having a bad experience at this cafe today. I admit that they have good dishes and food there is reasonably priced. Only complaint I had was slow service. Today the service got even slower and hit the bottom. Apparently the waitress did not put our order down so we ended up waiting for 45-50 minutes to get entrees. The waitress came up to our table, after I complained that the food has not arrive, and told us that she thought we were still working on the appetizer... working on it for 45 minutes?? She could have come to our table and asked! Wasn't that her job?  She did not come back to change my soft drink not even once and my drink ended up looking like iced water. The overall experience was extremely unpleasant. In the last years of being their customer, I had the worst experience ever today, which made me decide not to go back to the restaurant again.

Very nice experience. Our waiter was friendly and helpful, only had a hard time getting his attention once. The specials seem like they would be a great deal. The atmosphere was nice, although it seemed to be reaching a little for elegance in a strip mall location. The food was fantastic.
Our foursome had: Escargot appetizer very well prepared adequately seasoned but not over powered, fully cooked but still tender and Brie en Croute big portion of excellent cheese in light, flaky and buttery pastry with raspberry sauce.
For entrees two of us had the Crispy Duck, phenomenal, crispy but moist with a sweet sauce. The meat was perfectly cooked, the sauce a little oversweet but that is to be expected with game. Another had the mussels, all opened again fully cooked but moist and tender. The sauce was so good we were dipping bread in it. The light eater in our group had a salad with goat cheese that was large enough to be satisfying and very well balanced, fresh ingredients.
I had the Crepe au Chocolat for dessert and was satisfied.
We will definitely go back for one of their specials and try some more from the menu.

STOP!!  This place Is horrible! They have bad food and even worse service. They try and reel you in by a  buy one get one free dinners on Monday and Tuesday but it's a scam. Sage is one of the worst dining experiences of my life. It was a nightmare !! The server never checked in on us once I had no water for the whole time. We were told the drinks were 2 for 1 and that my girlfriend should have another glass. She charged us for the second glass. And then had the nerve to add a $12 dollar gratuity on the check which was more than 20%.  Stay far away from this place.

    Another long time favorite that deserves a Yelp write-up. They did a recent renovation that made the dining experience more like a cute, modern French bistro. You can't go wrong with these dishes;

    French Onion Soup
Charlotte Lysee - Yummy onion with my favorite cheese - gruyere
Steak Minute - Cooked to perfection with crispy frites
Cassoulet - Duck never tasted so good in a stew
Gratinee - Always stealing it from hubby when I he orders it

Monday and Tuesdays are special for 1/2 price dinners!

Went here for brunch last Saturday and ordered the eggs Benedict for me, and the French toast for my daughter.  Definitely had the potential to be better, but it wasn't bad.  Pretty average.  My poached eggs were over cooked and nearly hard boiled, but the French toast was awesome.  Service was nothing noteworthy.  I sat outside, which was nice.

Hands down their 2-4-1 dinner specials (Mondays and Tuesdays) are awesome.  Be sure not to be in an odd-numbered group!  Also, the 50% off wine bottle deals on Tuesday are excellent. Please check with the restaurant for the exact dates on dinner deals - they have changed quite a bit in the past year.

We like going to Sage every other month or so, guess you could call us "regulars". The last time we went was the day before Valentine's.  Being Monday, it was packed. We didn't want to wait for a table so we sat at the bar.  And the service was equally great. Started with the escargots... they were huge! All their specials are delicious. My favorite ones include duck, but the lamb and the pork are also cooked to perfection.  We finished a perfect evening with a delicious creme brulee with fresh berries on top.

I've also been to brunch (can you say crepes?!) and it includes a mimosa/bloody mary.  Breakfast, lunch or dinner... Sage is a wonderful place. I love bringing out of town guests here.

Being a easy "push over" for French Food, particularly anything assembled as a crepe, I've been here dozens of times for lunch as well as dinner. Though a wine and beer only establishment I've found myself willing to forgo my usual cocktail in order to enjoy their many fine French culinary offerings as well as their selection of rather delightful wines.

Better yet, their French food offerings each have a unique French touch to them instead of being of the standard French faire. As an example, in place of the typical Duck a l'Orange, the offering at Sage is done with a honey-raspberry or just the breast with an apricot sauce over apple and pear.

The menu, though small in that it only consists of around 10 or 12 offerings is, however, rounded out by several daily specials that regularly change. None of the fare, however, is of the highest order, "classical" French or served with the drama typcially associated with same. I would best classify it as "bistro French" and in that respect of reasonable price, allowing you to leave with your wallet fairly well in tact or your plastic unmelted.

I had a wonderful time during one of their wine tastings. There was live piano, hors d'Å“uvres, friendly patrons, and really tasty french food. Mature and lovely crowd. I had such a nice experience I did not want to go home. I even won a bottle of wine. Loved it!

This is a fine dining experience. Full treatment begins when you enter the door.
We ordered the duck and the meatloaf. My appitizer was the white bean soup. Duck was a giant portion of sresh crispy duck with nice fresh vegetables and roasted potatoes. The skin was nice and dark and the meat was really juicy. The meatloaf was a big portion of venison and beef mixture very nicely seasoned with a pile of mashed potatoes and grilled veggies.
This is a very fancy nd expensive restaurant that will not dissapoint.

First of all, it's not French. Second, it's got no particular taste. It's just  very ordinary
food served indifferently at too high a price. They call it French names, but the food is typically dull American style fare.
We were three people and everything we had (3 starters & 3 mains for $117 with a
bottle of wine) was without taste and was short on spicing.....dull would be the most
    accurate description.
Service was nice but not at all professional.....the staff need to be taught that a restaurant is supposed to be warm & welcoming. They got the food to the table but didn't have a clue who got what. No salt or pepper on the table & none ever offered.
    Portions are large .
Overall, I would call the whole meal boring.

We are regulars at the Sage French Cafe in Hollywood, but I have always wanted to try the Ft. Lauderdale location.  I am going to say from the outside to after walking in, this location is not as charming or upscale as the Hollywood restaurant.  The very welcoming staff sat us immediately, and we received great service.  Ordering our usual Foie Gras and Escargot appetizers, had a nice bottle of Chianti, and the service was attentive - the food delicious! I ordered the tender, succulent Baby Calf's liver on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes with vegi side and could not have been happier!  The raspberry glaze really brought out the flavor.  I would definitely come back to Sage - but I am still partial to the Hollywood location.  Check out my review on that place under my "French Restaurant" list!

Ate at Sage for dinner. Food was not good. Service passable. We were seated (by the hostess) at a table in the lounge area. Ten minutes into our visit, staff began unpacking cases of wine about 5 feet away (and not quietly). A most unpleasant atmosphere, to go with nearly inedible food. We won't return

DELICIOUS FOOD - 2-4-1 lunch, and Mon-Tues dinner. Ft. Lauderdale location is tacky but has excellent food. Hollywood looks classier, but the food was terrible 3 of the last 4 times there.

    Fort Lauderdale location review.

Enjoyable, relaxed atmosphere with live piano music on Sundays, great-looking dishes, but so-so execution and flavors.  The dishes look great on the plate but bad on the palate.  Really quite a find from a "strip mall by your house" perspective, a hidden local-level gem, perhaps, but nothing that I'd drive any distance to partake.

The desserts are really the big highlight, topped off with a bang-bang espresso that came out blazing hot (unlike in many nicer places, where it is sort of an afterthought and totally overpriced, regardless).

My three dining companions and I went around the table afterwards and gave liberal 7s which I equate basically to middle of the road here.

Found Sage on Yelp while searching for lunch. The 2-for-1 lunch special (every day) really sealed the deal. We were the only customers for a while, but it wasn't long before every table was full.

You'd never expect a place like this to be in an anonymous strip mall. The interior is beautifully done in red, black and white.

Appetizers of poached pear with gorgonzola and pistachio encrusted brie and desserts of banana chocolate bread pudding and bananas foster crepes more than made up for the somewhat lackluster entrees (grilled duck in an orange sauce with mashed sweet potatoes & fusilli with tomato and asparagus). The portions were slightly oversized.

The garlic basil olive oil dipper that accompanies their bread is fantastic.

Sybille was very polite and professional, an excellent server.

After the 2-for-1 discount of $31 (lesser priced items of the same menu category type are free), our total came to $40, plus an automatic gratuity. Great deal on a great lunch.

Came for lunch with co-workers after rave reviews & enjoyed it! The 2 for 1 lunches make it a deal you simply can't resist. Although I still prefer Rendezvous when it comes to French lunch places, Sage was a nice alternative. I chose to have two appetizers, the onion soup & grilled artichokes and both were quite tasty. My co workers really enjoyed their sandwiches (tenderloin & gorgonzola and roasted chicken & provolone). You can have two of any appetizers, sandwiches, entrees or salads and one is free. The prices were fair to begin with so this makes it a bargain. I understand they have a 2 for 1 dinner special too, everything on the menu. I didn't try as many items as I would have liked (they were out of the goat cheese souffle I really wanted to try) so I'll definitely be back to sample more.

I've been to Sage a few times, and I have to say it has been remarkably consistent.  I've had the exact same experience every time - the best French food I've ever tasted combined with some of the slowest service I've ever had.  While I'd like to trash the wait service, I can't fully blame them, because each time I've been there, the place has been packed beyond capacity with lines almost out of the door.  And I can't blame them for waiting, because the food is so good that I got in line with them.  But I'll say the service I've received has been as friendly and attentive as could be under such strained circumstances.

Even though the restaurant is located in a nondescript strip mall in the middle of Lauderdale, the atmosphere inside is still good for a romantic dinner.  The bar area in the middle of the restaurant is decorated to give it the look of an outdoor cafe in France.  Sage is a beer/wine establishment, but the knock I have on the bar is that both the wine and the beer selections are a little lacking.  But that doesn't really matter, because the food is what you go there for and Sage has never done me wrong in that department.

On my most recent visit, my girlfriend and I started with the chicken liver pate and the foie gras.  I'm not normally much of a fan of liver, but the pate was actually pretty good.  The foie gras, on the other hand, was out of this world.  It is served on a light, flaky pastry with pear slices and a brown sauce.  I've never really had foie gras before, so I can't judge but my girlfriend seemed to think that it was the best she's ever had.

Sage's most famous dish is it's roasted duck.  They make a roasted duck in a raspberry sauce that is out of this world.  It's the best duck I've ever tasted and others I know who have had it agree with me on that.  I recently went there and tried their rack of lamb which was a specialty that day.  I know Anthony Bourdain would not approve of me ordering the specials, but the lamb was well prepared, the sauce on top of it was tasty, and overall the dish was a dead-on winner.  The lamb was served with their mashed sweet potatoes.  They prepare the mashed sweet potatoes with honey, and while it is a side dish, it's almost good enough to be dessert.

We ended with dessert and she had the chocolate crepe while I had my usual - the banana pudding.  The chocolate crepe was good, but nothing super spectacular.  Sliced strawberries folded into a crepe and covered with chocolate sauce is kind of hard to mess up.  The banana pudding is another story.  While they may call it banana pudding, it's actually a bread pudding with bananas and chocolate chips with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top and a caramel sauce.  It's so rich and decadent, that as much as I'd like to try some of the other desserts on the menu (especially the bananas foster crepe) I just can't because that dessert is one of my all time favorites and my favorite reason for even going to Sage.

Each of us had 2 drinks, an appetizer, an entree, and dessert, and we got out of there for about $60/person after tax.  To me, that's not that bad when I consider the food to be comparable to the higher-end French places down here that would've easily charged 50% more for all of the above.  While I consider the food to be 5-star material, the speed of the service might drive some people nuts so I dropped it a star.  My recommendation is to not go to Sage without a reservation, show up a little early, and enjoy the best French cooking you're going to find down here.

This place is a cute, little authentic French restaurant.  Very comfortable and good service.  I have been here many times and the food is excellent on each visit.  The crepes, salads, and appetizers, especially the Pistachio crusted brie with a warm raspberry sauce are all spectacular.
The great thing about now is that they offer 2-4-1 lunches Mon.-Sat.  and 2-4-1 dinners on Mon. and Tues. nights with bottles of wine 1/2 off on Mon. nights.  Great deals at a great place.

I have been going to Sage consistently for about 6 years now, and I must admit, it doesn't have the allure it used to.  It is still a cute french bistro with a nice wine bar, but the food quality that used to pull me here, and recommend to others is slowly diminishing.

They are known for their crispy duck, and it used to be the only thing I ordered.  However, this winner has had its day. Last night it was dry and unflavorful...chewy.  The vegetables also, not much flavor, yet were fresh as some point either that day or the day before.  The veal and sirloin meatloaf is tasty, but the portion is a bit small. The mashed potatoes are still tasty, and the fries are great.

They seem to be resting on their reputation now.  The service is never very friendly when you first arrive...hostess is uninterested and others stand around and look around you - very strange.  I think I will stop sitting at the table, and go directly to the bar.  The wines are nice and not too overpriced.  Try Mondays when bottles of wine are half price!

They also have a buy 1 get 1 free lunch entree special running through the summer.  They must realize the crowds are just not coming as quickly as they used to.  Even with the quality not as good as it used to be, this is still a great staple French bistro, and the only one of its kind near the beach on Federal Hwy.

OK, if you've ever actually eaten French food don't, DON'T GO HERE. The restaurant is "quaint" and the staff seems nice, however that's where the good times end.
    * CANNED MUSHROOMS!
    * DRY "MEDIUM RARE" STEAK = NO FLAVOR
    * FLAVORLESS LAMB SHANK "CHEF'S SPECIAL ROAST OF THE DAY" (HOW DO YOU DO THAT TO LAMB?)
To top it off, our brunch dishes were supposed to come with mimosas that never came. And the menu had such promise. Bummer.

    France Je t'aime!

I find it excellent to have such a superb French restaurant in town! It's an option many people forget they have when looking for a nice, different, and somewhat upscale dining option!

For a night of fine French dining come here.  Although it would be considered somewhat upscale, it does not reek of pretentiousness. The wait staff is helpful, and not a bit stand-offish. The restaurant is average sized with a French provincial twist.

I recommend for an appetizer the Brie en Croûte, a savory indulgence of Brie cheese in a puff pastry served with apple slices! For an entrée, the duck served with a raspberry is a must! As a matter of fact, the restaurant touts to serve the best in town!

I probably come to dine at Sage a few times a year, and each and every time is just as good as the prior!

French bistro type food that is prepared consistently good.  My husband and I have been going there for the last 8 years whenever we are in the neighborhood.  The main menu stays pretty much the same but they do have seasonal specials written on a chalk board by the front door.  The portions are big (usually I take home half of my dinner) and the prices very reasonable.  Their tomato-based bourride is an exceptional value -- the chef does not skimp on seafood at all and the broth is very low fat but flavorful.  Their duck dishes are also good, crispy on the outside but not overdone.  Service tends to varies though, it all depends on which waiter/waitress you get.

I returned last night and had 2 glasses of vino and 2 plates of oysters with my man. It was very simple, not posh, and Bryan/Brian is a great bar tender. I am quite happy to have an oyster bar in town. My other half is very very excited to have an oyster bar in town. They are tasty, 4 different kinds but unfortunately, I'm lame and cannot spell or remember their names. I'm not a oyster fanatic yet. The rest of the menu still doesn't grab me. It's simply heavy French food and a plate of oysters is much lighter.
This is a good place for Hollywood and I do hope they continue to have a good flow of clients.

Another French staple in East Fort Lauderdale.  They often run coupons in the Entertainment book but not sure if that info is current.  They make the best darn fries in the world - skinny crispy and not greasy.  It's crowded because it's consistent and a great value.  Can't remember ever having a bad meal here.

    Great restaurant and good value.
I've been here a few times, and so many of the dishes are great.  The coq au vin, cassoulet, and osso bucco are all really delicious.  Very generous portions, hearty and flavorful.  The mussels in garlic cream sauce, and the duck salad were both good, but not great.
Most of the appetizers are quite good as well.
There was piano music on Saturday night that was nice.
This is really a very nice, comfortable, unpretentious restaurant with very good, reasonably priced food.  The wines are ok, but priced a bit high compared to the food.
There's a nice covered outside area, which makes it very easy to take young kids here.  Inside is a little less kid-friendly.  But, outside has been great for my kid from when he was a baby to now (4 yrs).
