We really enjoyed the food. We did a lot of research before going. We wanted good authentic seafood with good service. We will definitely be coming back! The customer service was great!

I went here on a Sunday night in February at around 7:00pm. It was fairly quiet, and the only people there were the bartender and 2-4 people (not including myself) at all times. I sat at the bar, and the bartender was friendly and conversational enough where it didn't seem like he was hitting on a single, young female like a pervert.

I ordered the Flounder burger ($9.95) and a Buckshot amber ale ($4.00). The flounder burger nor the amber ale was as good as I had imagined them to taste. Across from the bar there were 2 male buddies who ordered the oysters. And I don't know how big their order was, but I do remembering that they weren't there to eat, but more to try out the oysters (it was one of their first times eating oysters). Either way, a guy in the back came over and plopped a HUGE bucket of raw oysters in front of them and literally spent what felt like 10 minutes shucking them while conversing with the customers. It looked like they were getting their money's worth.

I may come back here if I have a hankering for raw oysters, simply from watching that scene alone.

We were originally heading to the Morehead City water front to try our regular seafood favorite, The Ruddy Duck, but since it was a Monday, they were closed. So we made our way over to Sammy's to give it a try. The waitress was super nice and attended to us immediately, quickly bringing out delicious sweet teas and an amazing basket of cornbread (with actual corn!) and hushpuppies. Coming to the coast always brings out our desire for seafood so we ordered the three seafood platter with fried flounder, shrimp and oysters. The food arrived quickly and we were very happy with our choice. Fresher seafood we couldn't have asked for and prepared by an expert hand. The fries were crispy and the slaw good as well. Our only complaint was that we could have gotten more seafood options for a cheaper price at the Ruddy Duck. A definite must if you come down to the NC Coast.

Walked up to the door for lunch and saw the hours posted. It said they were closed. As we turned away the door opened and one of the workers told us to come on in-they had opened for a few others and we may as well join them. So glad we did. My MIL custom ordered her meal (shrimp and scallops over pasta in a garlic butter sauce). My SIL had shrimp tacos and I had a Tuna burger.  All 3 dishes were wonderful, and the service ( by the owner Sammy) was excellent. We will be back.

Great place for lunch. Seafood was great quality, portions were large and reasonably priced. We had the broiled scallops which were large and fresh, shrimp platter, shrimp burger, broiled mahi and would get all again. Service was friendly and attentive giving special attention to our children.

Just had dinner at Sammy's while visiting the waterfront at Morehead City.  I tried the steamed shrimp and they were very good with delicious hush puppies and cornbread.  Met the chef, Fajita Mike, and the owner, Sammy and they went out of their way to make sure we were happy with our service and  food.  Nice decor and great location on the waterfront.  Will definitely go back during the summer!

On a rainy, cold night we found a warm welcome and fabulous food at Sammy's.  The clam chowder was hot and full of clams, the bacon wrapped sea scallops were huge and yummy (wasabi sauce gave a great kick), and the broiled shrimp stuffed with crab was excellent.  Our cocktails were cold and properly mixed.  And the cheesecake was homemade and yummy.  Attentive service and great chat with the owners.  We will definitely go back to this place -- soon, and often, we hope.

Ok.  Service was super friendly.  Besides that the food was just okay and the table in the corner with the view of the empty next room was uninspiring,  There are much better places within walking distance.

This is a locally owned and operated restaurant by the waterfront in Morehead City.  I have been coming to this location when it was called Icehouse and it had a sunken oyster bar.  On this visit they raised the oyster bar to the same level as the rest of the restaurant.  I have had good, bad and really good meals here.  This time I ordered the  scallops platter along with side salad and shared the crab dip.  All of it was really good this time and the hushpuppies were very large and great.

The day My Daughter took me here for lunch, there was not a soul around save the one lone man at the bar. That could be why our meal arrived very quickly and hot.

O.K here's my take on the place. Fair food that's over priced. For what they charge on the menu, you'd think they could generate some money into putting in some Bathroom stalls! It's a good size restaurant and there was one stall and it was filthy . I did find out later there was one other stall further down. It to left something to be desired in the area of cleanliness.

Beverages were fine. I judge place by their water as well, if you can drink it or if you have to buy a soft drink instead. This was drinkable.

Appetizer was hot but small for the price. (You judge. I got the calamari and posted a picture of it.It was $10.00) The huspuppys were fair...cornbread was gooey, But again...hot.The Crab sandwich was tasty.Service was crazy. I think everyone in the restaurant checked on us. Maybe even the dishwasher! Okay already! Yes, we have everything we need, Yes everything is Fine. Thank you for being so attentive, but seriously....Isnt there a bathroom you can clean?!

Not one compliant!  Greeted promptly, waiter was attentive, the owner even stopped by to say hello to our table.  I love the little bites of cornbread they serve the table.  Highly recommend scallop appetizer!  My dinner date got the fried dinner combo with clam strips (real clam not some frozen breaded sysco mess) and you could see the crab meat in his crab cakes.  I got the crab dip for my dinner and it was super and served with warm buttery bread.

I have not given a restaurant 5 stars yet....this is the first. First off, the seafood chowder is amazing! I had the stuffed flounder, which was juicy and so flavorful. The shrimp fajitas were on point, and crabcakes just right. Wait staff is extremely friendly. If you are in the area, you must stop by.

Went there for dinner. We were told it would be about a 20 minute wait. About 35 minutes later they asked if we wanted to sit in the bar area. We said sure. Here's a hint: DO NOT SIT IN THE BAR IF YOU WANT SERVICE. After 15 minutes the waitress came by and finally took our order. We ordered an appetizer and two entrees. Waitress disappeared. Appetizer arrived and we still had no drinks. Waitress came by bringing the drinks and said "oh, I didn't know they had brought you the appetizer." This was to be a reoccurring theme for our visit.
Looking around others eating dinner seemed to having the same problem with their servers. If you were at the bar drinking- no problem. At the surrounding chairs and tables, nope. The appetizer, buffalo shrimp, was good. It was a solid 7 out of 10. The sauce was spicy and had a nice mellow kick afterwards. Our entree arrived, brought out someone other that our server. Halfway through the meal the server came by again, noticed our empty drink glasses and said "Oh I didn't know they had brought out your entrees. I'll get you some drink refills"  Ten minutes later she came back with drink refills. We were done eating by that time. In 15 more minutes she brings out the check. I paid with cash, no telling how long she would have taken with a credit card.
The entree was entirely mediocre, I can't recommend this place. I won't be back. It is not because of the service, which was uh...nonexistent, because anyone can get a crappy server, which we did, the food quality just does not justify me trying it again. There have to be better places to eat in Morehead City.

This place is not to be missed. We were visiting Morehead City from Austin TX, and naturally wanted some fresh seafood, I googled best seafood in the area and Sammy's seafood house and oyster bar came up #1 in the area. It was amazing, I got the blackened shrimp and crab cake both were amazing. Everything was so fresh, so much so we saw a fresh just off the boat grouper being carried to the kitchen.  The owner came by our table and invited our kids to come see the fresh fish just delivered off of local boats from Cateret County.  The atmosphere is great, awesome staff and out of the world food makes this a truely great restaurant.  I just wish I lived closer!

    Great find!
When we arrived we were told that they were short-staffed and there may be delays. Nothing could have been further from the truth. Our waitress checked on us regularly as did the manager and everything came out quickly and made perfectly!

I had the steamed shrimp and my husband had the flounder special (fried, but not batter-fried) and it was spectacular! Fresh and well-prepared.
I can honestly say that this is the best experience we've had in both food and service in the area.

Exceptional seafood and service! Used to be the old Icehouse, now under new management by Owner/Chef Sam. If you are looking for fresh seafood, forget "Sanitary", this is where you want to eat!
