Justin = awesome bartender and certified cicerone with an exceptionally experienced palate matched with loads of knowledge
Schmidy's = awesome venue for a constantly changing draft list, regular live performances, quality bar food and epic beer tastings every Tuesday at 7 pm
That's really all you need to know, so make your way over here if you even remotely enjoy beer.
Have returned four times since new Owners after staying out 18 months under previous absentee ownership. New Owners are friendly, hands on and, are on track to have a great local oasis in the desert. Starting to see other previous regulars returning. smart improvements and expanded beer selection on tap. oh. and the beer is cold! Schmidy's is not only under new ownership. It's NOW UNDER MANAGEMENT!
Review Source:This place appreciates beer and pulls in taps you won't see anywhere else in the valley.
This is a great bar, it costs a bit more but if you want cheap PBR why not drink at home?
Clean, tasteful decoration, never very packed/never seen anyone even argue let alone fight.
The pool is always open, or there isn't a long wait.
The food is actually amazing. The pork belly sliders and cheese bites are  really good.
Why Didn't I come here sooner?!? This is a great old Irish bar in the Desert. Apparently it is a German Bar that looks like an Irish Bar, but who cares? Great selection of beers on tap, some really interesting ones.
Great food, as in surprisingly good for a bar! The pool tables are immaculate.
Justin is one hell of a bartender, and knows how to run a Bar!.
My mom and I stopped by to see if there were any St. Patrick's day happenings in Palm Desert. This place was fun, green, great music, terrific food - we had corned beef and cabbage and the best potato fries I've ever had in my life! It was a good afternoon celebrating St. Patrick's Day. Thanks too, to the owner, who kept us smiling with stories!!
Review Source:Stopped by for happy hour. Â Place was empty 6 people at the bar. Â Service was slow, and and "Happy Hour menu was not printed. Â Bartender rattled off the items which were needed to be repeated several times, not clear. Â
Nice selection of import and Micro Brews ranging from 4.5% - 12% all priced at $5.00. Â Here is the catch the higher the Alcohol contend the smaller the glass. Â I ordered a 7.5% and it came in about a 8oz glass. Â When asked about size for the 12% was shown about a 4-5oz glass.
A nice 12 -16oz glass would be much better and reduce reordering every few minutes. Â Just charge accordingly. Â Similar to Well drinks and Premium liquor are different prices. Â
Fatback Sliders were OK and fries nice and crisp.
Schmidy's is A-OK. A totally positive A-OK.
Food is fine - the fries are really good.
Service and beer selection is nice. TV's are ample.
Hard for me to give the spot more than an A-OK 3 stars as I watched half my order sit in the window for over 5 minutes before finally getting up off my stool to get it myself; and I had to grab a ketchup bottle off 3 different tables before I found one with ketchup in it!
Good for a cold beer and a simple snack.
Headed out here for beer school. I'm not a big beer drinker, but pair just about anything with great food and I'm in. The tapas style food was amazing and I dipped my toes into the beers paired with it. It may not have converted me into a full blown beer drinker, but definitely was worth the $15
Review Source:What a delight to find this tavern on a stopover in Palm Desert. Â The beer selection was great, with the waitress completely understanding what we would like to try - Â and hitting it on the nailhead. Â The food was darn tasty too. Â Loved the chef's special last night - Shepard's Pie. Â I asked him about it and he said it was his Nana's Recipe. Â Really Good.

I'd heard about beer school and always meant to go. On the outside, Schmidy's didn't really look like my kind of place. But don't let the Bud Light neon fool you--Schmidy's is serious about beer.
I went for the Hangar 24 Brewery release of their Pugachev's Cobra Russian imperial stout. This stuff is serious, and only available for a limited time. It's also only available in the Valley at Schmidy's, I think.
The room is a standard tavern/pool hall atmosphere. There seem to be a lot of regulars.
Brent, who I think is a manager (or at least coordinates the beer school and beer events), worked the room, visiting each table to talk about the beers. He shook our hands and introduced himself and asked what we thought of the beers. He thanked us for coming. That was cool.
The food was standard pub grub. The burger was really good and fresh. We came before 7, so we got apps for 1/2 price. Happy hour is a good deal here. The beers weren't expensive, either. We tried a flight of Hangar 24 brews and had some of the Pugachev's Cobra. They also carry a good selection of other breweries and a nice representation of German beers, which the bf enjoys.
I've marked beer school on my calendar (for real this time), and I'll probably be back for another happy hour soon.
Looks like Schmidy's has kicked it up a notch as far as their draft beer is concerned. I can't begin to tell you how refreshing it is to see a place with ten beers on tap and none of them start with "Bud" or end with "Light." Good luck finding that anywhere else in the Valley. To accompany my lunch today, I started with a Stone Double Bastard Ale, and finished with a Stone cask-conditioned Chipotle Smoked Porter.
For food, I had the $5 lunch deal. I chose the chicken tenders, and could only eat two of the three due to their size. There was also a 1/2-pound burger on the special menu, along with a couple of other things that I can't remember (did you see the beers I just drank???).
Cheers!
Not too bad of a place with an average beer selection; most of the micro brews are from Stone. ("Micro brews are for wimps; I drink nano-brews")
They do offer a cask ale which is unique for the desert.
I have not been wowed by the food but last night I did try their homemade chips, and those my friends are definitely worth ordering; kudos to Jim C for recommending them.
I do wish they had a beer vessel sized between a pint glass and their mini keg.
Holy loudness. I just left there and it was so so so incredibly obnoxious. We were there for Monday night football, and some guy giving out prizes was SCREAMING into his microphone! It was so annoying. All they needed to do was turn his volume down and it all would have been fine. Food and service was good. I feel bad for those workers who have to listen to that guy all night.
Review Source:Went to Schmidys last week and caught Happy Hour (4p-7p, Tues-Sat). They have really good $3 appetizers. The Jalepeno Artichoke dip was awesome. I hear they have a good lunch crowd but haven't made it in yet. All of their menu items are under $9 except one. Â The beer is cold and not overpriced like most places.
Friendly staff, clean restrooms, and local draw.
First off, this valley is INCREDIBLY boring, not much of a night life. Â Everyone I ask here, "What is there to do?" everyone says "Nothing". Â So I basically cruised until I found a dive bar and I came across Schmidy's. Â I saw a lot of bad talk about it on here but I went in anyway, stayed there from 10ish till closing.
Bar tenders treated me extremely well, the waitresses were social and always smiled. Â Their music was kind of lame because only 1 speaker worked or something like that. Â Mixed crowd, there wasn't really 1 genre. Â I personally like this place, yes it's a dive bar but not a bad one. Â I'll go back for sure.
We all know its hard to open up a restaurant.. ESPECIALLY in the dead of summer in the desert.. its off season and hot as hell, and all the tourists have gone elsewhere, so the fact that its owner decided to do this is a little surprising, still, I have hope for Schmidy's.
This place is a little more upscale than your usual Irish pub. The decor is simple, yet classy with your typical Good day for a Guinness pictures on the walls. There is a good sized outdoor patio, VERY clean bathrooms and a stage for live music. The bar is fully stocked with anything your alcoholic heart desires, including a few types of infused vodkas. Brett is a fantastic bartender, very nice and fully equipped with a very heavy hand. Their made from scratch Bloody Marys are fantastic, definitely try one if you're in the mood. Their menus was great, lots of standard bar food but also a gourmet hot dog section and yummy sandwiches.. due to the fact that they literally just had their soft opening last week, our options were limited because they were still waiting on provisions, so I opted for the Blu burger, which was really good. The kitchen is semi-open, which I am a fan of because I like to see my meal being prepared.
Unfortunately, when you walk in, you are overwhelmed with the smell of Subway sandwiches, because, well, its right next door, literally attached, so assuming they share air vents, this problem might be a little hard to fix. Fortunately if you sit there long enough and have Brett as your bartender, you will soon forget and not even notice it after a while.
Glad I got to be one of the firsts to try out this little gem, and if i'm ever in Palm Desert again I would surely go back. I wish them luck!!!
