Compared to everything else in this town, this place is a diamond in the rough. The décor is quaint and totally what you would expect from a family-run small-town restaurant.
The beer was cold, inexpensive and of course they had several Shiner beers on tap.
The fried pickle chips were excellent as was the burger I ordered. (what diet?)
Fair warning... it does not open until 5pm, even on Fridays. So if you are looking for a place to get the weekend started a little early, this is not the place.
We just had my parent's 50th wedding anniversary party at Sengelmann Hall.  The great folks there  were gracious hosts to our 30+ person crew.  They prepared a delicious buffet style dinner (legit chicken schnitzel and really tasty sauerkraut appetizers) , let us decorate with flowers and cakes, and were super accommodating and friendly.  They even let us tour the upstairs dance hall and served as impromptu photographers for our big bunch!
The building itself is a treasure, and it has been lovingly looked after.  The restoration work is stellar and preserves every bit of the 1890's charm.  The big, historic wooden  bar is also great place to have beer on a hot Texas afternoon.
I could not recommend this venue/restaurant/dancehall/bier garten more highly for hosting your next event, even if that event is just lunch:) Â Kudos guys!!!
