So much potential...the place is real big and has some great entertainment. I'm a band wife and if this place had the service to back up their venue it'd be a fantastic spot for bands. The stage is huge for a bar and they have a great lighting system and plenty of space for everyone and a big dance floor. My husband's band played and the sound guy had the instruments jacked up so loud that you could barely hear the vocals which ruins the experience. Considering what they invest in their equipment and space to accommodate bands, crappy sound is unforgivable. Maybe he was just having an off night but they played a 3 hour set which is plenty of time to fine tune the sound before it's over. They also have bean bags, pool tables, a large bar, space outside and even OTB. It's a really great setup. HOWEVER, the service was awful. The area where people were sitting watching the band was not crowded by any means and the one waitress on duty was seen taking orders quite often. However, the taking of the orders is as far as she wanted to go apparently. I ordered some fries to munch on, after getting a super weak Jameson and Coke at the bar when I arrived, and I'm not even exaggerating when I say I had to find her at least FORTY FIVE minutes later to ask about my fries - just fries. When I did she was completely unfazed and said they'd be out soon without even looking at me, as if this was standard operating procedure. She had also walked past me a million times prior without letting me know the status or apologizing for the ridiculous delay. I ordered regular fries and when she finally handed me a basket of waffle fries she apologized for being out of tater tots. Um...okay. I didn't order either of those. The fries were really good at least and I wasn't about to correct the order lest I starve to death waiting again. She never came back to me once to take my order for anything else in the next couple hours that I was sitting there, or to take my empty fry basket away. As I said, for a bar at 11:00 the place was not crowded at all. It was completely ridiculous. They make money selling drinks to the people sitting there. Hello! The best is yet to come though...at the end of the band's set my husband asked me to get him a vodka on the rocks while he was packing up. I ordered a Kettle One on the rocks and when I brought it over to him he said it was water. He's a straight vodka drinker and I'm not so I figured he just meant they watered it down. He said "No. It's outright WATER. Taste it." I did and - IT WAS OUTRIGHT WATER. I watched her pour this drink into the glass from a near-full bottle of Kettle One at the bar! I brought it back and told her it was water. She tasted it and looked at me like a deer in headlights. She said she was stunned and had no idea what to even say. She poured some more from the bottle and drank it - WATER. She apologized and asked if I wanted to speak to the owner because someone apparently switched the vodka out for water. Her reaction almost felt like bad acting but I won't make any straight up accusations. I got another kind of vodka and told her to just get rid of that bottle. She did not immediately dump the bottle either. I was stunned. She was the only bartender I ever saw on duty and the bottle was not brand new, so were people being served water instead of premium vodka in their mixed drinks later in the night without knowing? How did that bottle just sit there and get used without anyone knowing it was water? Completely insane. Between the hour long fries, the super weak drink when I got there, and the $10.50 WATER scam we got at the end of the night - this place needs a serious education in how to service its customers. And after all that, no one even offered to comp anything or seemed to care much about the awful service. If they get good hospitality down, this will be a fantastic spot to hang out and see bands or play games with friends. As it is, it's a place to sit and starve and be cheated. Not cool.

THE WORST SERVICE EVER
We visited Shark City on Friday, May 10th to hear a band. We couldn't get waited on.

After about 15 minutes, Pam finally came over and took our drink order and collected our credit card. Nothing happened. So we went and found her and reminded her about our drinks. Then we found her again to re-remind her of our forgotten drinks. Asked another waitress about it and she escorted Pam back to our table with drinks and a menu. We placed an order and waited about half an hour for our food. We never saw her again. She never came back to take our plates, or check on drinks. We went to find her when we were ready to leave and she said she would be right over. We waited 15 minutes and then went and found her again and finally we got our bill and credit card back. I've never thought it was ok to leave no tip. Never EVER done that before. Sorry Pam, you were a first. Worst service we've ever had in any city, in any country.

As others have written, the bar is very big with pool tables and bag games and a huge stage which is great for live bands, with a nice big dance floor. The food was typical bar food, ok burger, tater tots with little taste, wrap was ok, nothing special.

It seems like it would be a great place to watch live bands, but we won't be going back.

My review of Shark City is from the view point of a musician that preforms at the club. The stage is awesome, they have a great sound man and the light show is awesome. I enjoy playing here. the staff is great to us when we preform here the owner takes care of us, what more can I ask for. this is why i give them 5 stars. they have a great place to put on rock shows so stop in and support local music!! check out my site http://Catalanoband.com for when i will be preforming there again this summer!!
The food is good. A bit better than normal bar food. the drinks are reasonably priced and they have a lot of big screen TVs, Pool tables and also OTB if you feel like betting on some horses. They also have a cool outdoor patio and bar to hang out in.

I was invited to go see my cousin's band play, otherwise I would have never heard of Shark City or had any reason to trek out to Glendale Heights.

I must say I was pretty impressed. The place is huge. The main bar is somewhat separated from the stage area for those who don't want loud music blasting on them. They also have pool tables and a bean bag toss game.

The food is decent...basic bar fare. One person in our party did not like her drink. The server comped it off the bill and brought something else without confrontation or drama.

I have to comment that the light & sound system as well as the stage are awesome! Shark City is not a dive bar where they move a few tables to make room for the band. They have a very professional purpose-built soundstage that makes the entertainment experience so much better. It made the $10 cover charge seem not so bad.

I wish Shark City was a little closer to home. If it was, I'd would definitely make it a regular stop.

I must have missed the reason for this place's low yelp rating. That, or I'm less discerning than the people of Glendale Heights. Either way, I came here with a few others yesterday to watch some March Madness games, and had a good time. The food was standard bar food, and it was pretty good. No standouts among the things we ordered, but it was all still very good.

I would have been happy with a broader beer selection, but I'm sort of picky when it comes to that.

Overall, the place is huge, and with an OTB in house, and dozens of TVs, it's a great spot to do what I did, and watch sports for a few hours.

One of the few bars I've found that batters their own chicken strips. Most places serves chicken strips they pulled out of the freezer. This place serves fresh battered chicken. I am anxious to try other foods there in future.

The Venue for bands is awesome. Only 115 Bourbon St is better to see the Lounge Puppets play at. Cover last Saturday was a little high at $10, but they did have 2 bands.

My 3 favorite places to see The Lounge Puppets play is 115 Bourbon Street, Shark City, and Tailgaters.

Ok, I'm glad I'm not the only person giving this place a thumbs down. I went to this place years back way before their remodel and can't remember if it was in the condition it's in now.

I went a few months ago and didn't even realize what it's become. We got there after 11:30 last night to see a band. Well, there was an opener so there were two bands playing and a sign at the door "$10 cover for two bands" What a deal!!!! Not. SOME places in the burbs will charge a little more for two but since you're not getting two full shows, a double cover is a bit much, ESPECIALLY when you're walking in the place after 11:30 and the second band is already into their set. Well, I like the band, otherwise I would've been like "HELL to the NO "and peaced outta there. I'm not sure if this place thinks they're in downtown Chicago but in addition to the $10 cover, $4 domestic bottles?!?!? Damn.

There are other options out in these parts so this place will be a last resort. And yes, I agree entirely about the disgusting bathrooms there - one stall was working, broken glass everywhere. No Thanks, I'll pass next time.

this place made a 180 once the new owners took over. one of the nices OTB's around, they moved the stage from the back to the front and upgraded the sound and lights, new menu, great drink specials, and now they are getting in electronic gambling machines. I love this place.

Ick! Shark City is a craphole. I don't know how these guy do any business. Other than booking bands, and the groupies/pals/fans of the performers coming here to hear the band play, this place is not my cup of tea.

We met some friends up here recently who were here for a birthday party and we're highly disappointed. They charged us each $8 cover to walk in the door. wtf?? It's not a club. It's a friggin bar and I was there to drink, not to listen to the band.

Not only did I have to pay to walk in, that was followed by Mr. "I don't see you" bartender boy. Here's the thing: I tip well. I tip VERY well and due to your lack of attention to my friends and I, you didn't get to take home one penny of our money. Guess you'll have to get a buck from the next 21 year old kid that orders 5 beers. Do that 10 times or so and see how it goes.

I know why we don't spend much time in bars. It's places like this that give bars a bad name.

Shark city completely sucks. Used to come here a lot. Now, the past two times I stood up front for five minutes with no service. My buddy played pool with no service for 30 minutes. Then we left. I don't own a cue stick so I can't play without service. You could probably run off with their cash register and nobody would notice since its right next to the front door and there is nobody there I tell you. Even the girl at the bar can see you standing up at the register and does nothing. Dave & busters and fox & hound are alternatives. Don't go to shark city. No service and lousy beer selection anyway.

Ps. Someone wrote about how great Sam was as a waitress and I have to agree. She was really the best waitress ever. Anyway, shark city is a dive. Totally avoid.

This place is a 3...3.25 stars.

It's an ok place. I don't ever really see it crwded, but 1) it's big and 2) maybe I've gone on slow nights. It has pool tables and a stage. I like pool and I like music. Unfortunately, when they have live music, they crank up the volume to 11. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I don't like to have to use my beer napkin to blot away the blood dripping from my ears. Please, Shark City, turn it down a notch.

The food was so so. It's nothing to write home about.

The bartender and server I've had there are super friendly and really attentive. They constitute 3.24 of the 3.25 stars I'm giving this place. The 0.01 part is for the pool tables.

Why can't it go higher than this in my book? Well, the reality is that it's an ok place at best. The god service can't make up for an average product.

Really good drink specials. You need a drink for cheap? They have a deal for you. Good live entertainment but I hate cover charges. Play a little pool for cheap and watch the games when they're on, great for Hockey and football. We watched the Hawks win the cup here, it was awesome.

I read some not-so-great reviews on Shark City and I have to be honest, I was a little bit skeptical driving all the way out there from Palatine. I had made a reservation so that I could have a bird's eye view of VVX, my friends band and I received a phone call from Tony who was extremely pleasant and professional to confirm my reservation and when I got there, he escorted me to my table. One point for SC. My waitress Kaitylyn was very attentive and stopped by to check on me and my quests many times throughout the night. Point 2 for SC. The stage, sounds, lights, everything was totally worth the $9.00 cover. Point #3. I also ordered food and it was fresh, hot, delicious and reasonably priced. Point #4. I had a blast and thought that the venue was perfect for either seeing a band or shooting some pool. I prefer to see a band since I don't really know how to play pool, but there were a lot of people there for both reasons. I did not experience what others had mentioned in their reviews and I am a pretty demanding person, especially when I go and patronize an establishment, I expect to get outstanding service, otherwise what is the point, I might as well stay home and save my money and my hearing. I had a blast and I suggest that many of you give Shark City another try. I am sure you won't be disappointed since I wasn't.

I had the bar set low based on yelp reviews. I expected to pay a cover. It was $8.00 - I paid it and survived.

It's like the place has an identity crisis - part pool hall, part dive bar, loads of tvs and part live band, one not being remotely related to another. Not that anyone in there cares. Everyone seemed to keep to themselves, not a lot of egos.

Anyhow, the the first band was fine, albeit a bit loud and disorganized. The second band was more skilled and played consistently but lacked enthusiasm and people left.

We went for a birthday party. The reserved table was there for us and the staff was attentive. Soda was completely flat in my rum and coke - bleh. Waitress was too confused on the concept so I lived with it. My advice to anyone is order bottled beer - it is tough to f that up.

I can't see going back unless there was a band or comedy act I was really into.

Shaaaaark City!

The service was sub par (took forever to get drinks every time), but the atmosphere makes up for it. The TVs are everywhere and are clearly tweaked up so they look good.

The clientele was mixed. There were professionals there and there were scumbags there. Everything from fishnet stockings to mosh pit leather jackets to polo shirts and jeans. A big clusterf**k of types of people. Everyone pretty much kept to themselves.

I want to come back in the summer and check the beer garden out -- because that looks pretty sweet.

I haven't been here in a long time (I think a couple years?) and came here last night for a friend's birthday. The interior completely changed! The stage is now larger with a designated dance floor and is near the front entrance. The entire stage area is much more spacious now than it used to be and not so hidden anymore. I really liked this. However, now with the stage taking the main focus, it's easy to miss all the pool tables and arcade games in the back of the bar (where the stage used to be).

One thing I noticed last night that I didn't notice before -- more young, scantily-clad waitresses. I think the bar is trying to cater to a younger crowd now, although there were still plenty of mid-age patrons there for the Led Zeppelin cover band (which rocked, by the way). The drinks were great, though. We were actually there with a $15 wristband all-you-can-drink for three hours deal -- all my friends took advantage of that (I drove, so I didn't drink) and they had a great time! I'm glad Shark City is still a good place to go for a sports bar/Saturday night cover band scene.

One of my best friends recently purchased a condo in the Bloomingdale area which has widely opened me up to new surrounding places; Shark City is one of them.

We came here on a random night with the plan of eluding the burdens that city nightlife would bring (the drive, parking, uncomfortably large crowds, prices, etc.), but still have a really good time. Unfortunately, the "really good time" portion of our plan didn't work out as smoothly as we had hoped.

We had followed a group of people to get inside the door and they were apparently regulars because they joked with the staff and walked right in. When we came through the door, they stopped us and told us there was a cover charge of $7. I've never seen a place with such an odd number for cover charge, but we have no problem paying cover so we all went to grab our money. When we were about to pay, the guy told us to hold on and went to the back. When we came to the front again, he told us then that the cover charge was $10. Obviously something shady was going on and we honestly didn't appreciate it considering we were fully ready to give them a hoard of business.

The place wasn't even packed. In fact I couldn't count more than a dozen people there.

The place is fairly large, though, with an elevated area with tables, lower levels with tables, a dancefloor, and plenty of pool tables.

According to my friends, they have nights where there are country-themed parties, which may be appealing to some.

But, again, I was very displeased with that initial encounter with the cover charge, and it slightly deterred me from having a good time :(

The drinks were average priced.

Not much else to say except I most likely won't be returning.

People beware, this place is a joke. First they have the nerve to charge a cover, pool was an extra charge. It took me 10 minutes to get a beer. Probably because the bar tenders were to busy talking and serving friends first. Another thing that pissed me off was it was so loud inside I could not have a conversation with my friends. I went up for another beer and waited 15 minutes for my beer. The beer was loaded with mostly head. By the time I went up for a third drink I was pissed. After ten minutes of waiting they called last call. I looked at my phone and saw it was 1:10. Sign said bar closes at 2. Well by the time the bartender reached me she told me it was to late, that we already called last call. It gets worse, a friend of her came up to the bar and was served. Myself and the group I was with will never be back.

I went here for drinks once and was less than impressed. Service was a nightmare - we spent almost 10 minutes walking through the entire place to find a waitress (obviously this wasn't a Friday, but that should mean the servers are even more aware when new patrons arrive, no?) Logic aside, the atmosphere is decent and deals are okay (some make no sense at all from a business point of view, and overall the better ones are Fri-Sat). I don't think I'd come back here.

i'm only giving this one star because you have to give it a star. We were there last night and it was terrible. We were told two different cover charges and the guy picked a fight when I disputed. It easily took 20 minutes if not more to get a drink. When my husband complained to the manager about the service the manager told him that he didn't care and it wasn't his problem. Really??? Then who's problem is it??? Will not be going back ever again. Heard they were under new management? Should have kept the last guys.

I went here only once and that will be my last time. the service was horrid and sucked! It should not take over 20 minutes to get a beer and bring it back to my table. My friends and I were about ready to get up and leave. The only great thing about this place is the wings. The bourbon wings were fantastic! Sorry shark city, I will not bless you with my presence ever again.

I've been to Shark quite a few times, and I can admit I've always had a blast.

Sure the drinks aren't the cheapest, and the crowd is pretty dull, but we still manage to have fun!

I didn't get the privaledge of experiencing the "Old Shark City" with all the National bands coming here, but some of these local bands really know how to rock. Yeah the cover is a bust, but they have to make money some how!

I was just here last week, and they have done some serious remodeling..
The stage for the bands use to be in the back corner of the bar and they have now moved it up to the front area of the bar where they had all the pool tables and bags boards. It looks like a professional stage..it looks AWESOME. They even set up a dance floor, it looks a lot better this way.
Not exactly sure what the plan on doing with the back area, maybe putting the pool tables and bags over there? The stage was still being torn down when I was there.

I have never really tried their food, but nobody ever raves about it..typical bar food..

This is one of my favorite places to come in the summer because of their huge outside patio. They have a little bar out there too, so if the one inside is too crowded you can always come out side and grab a drink. LOVE IT!

I would definetely check this place out..there is something to do for everyone! :)

If I could give it less the one star I most certainly would. I found them as I tried to locate bars with shuffleboard tables. Their website said they had 2. We had a babysitter we jumped in the car and drove twenty minutes to get there. Guess what? No shuffleboard tables, but hey we had a sitter let's sit down have some drinks and enjoy ourselves.

We seated ourselves at the bar and waited and waited and waited. 2 bartenders further down the bar talked to the same guys the entire time. My husband finally gave up; walked down to them and put in our order. 10 minutes later my husband got his beer, another 10 minutes goes by before I get my chocolate martini. I ask for a menu and take a sip of my martini which has an after taste of old school nyquil.

Am I paying 9 dollars for a small glass of nyquil? Another10 minutes go by and the bartender comes by sans menu and asks if I need another martini. I again asked for a menu and a glass of water. Guess what another 10 minutes goes by and we get our menu which was not at all appetizing and we ask about shuffleboard. The bartender says she has no idea all 3 of the bartenders just started 2 days ago.

My husband and I settled our tab and headed back to a bar closer to home. I might not get shuffleboard but at least I would get service. All and all the most disappointing place I have been to in a long time!

It's a huge sports bar with several pool tables. Service is OK - crowd can be a little rough at times.

I'd rank it three stars but they often charge a cover for a band or for other reasons that I could care less about. If I go to Shark City, I want a beer, to watch sports, or play pool. None of those activities warrant a cover charge - so I usually will go where there isn't one and have just as good, if not a better time. Last time we went to Fox and Hounds and used the cover charges we saved for pool and beers. I suggest others do the same.

Ive been to the HUGE BAR a couple of times. Its a very young crowd but a great place to watch UFC or ANY SPORT. It can get very loud probably due to the size of it. It reminds me of Burbon Street, but on a much smaller level.
I must say, Ive had the burgers and they are yummy.
Also, some ok drink specials.
Will i go back, yeah, but not if there is a better offer.

Humongous bar.

Saw a band named Judas Beast here one night that was so loud I almost put a dart in my own neck like in "Old School".

What's kind of cool is that if you go to their website, you can watch a live webcam of what's going on there.

Lots of dart boards, bag toss sets, pool tables, and a nice outdoor patio in the summer.

I believe they have a cover on some band nights.

This place is close, the food is good, the service is great, and there is a ton to do. Youc an play pool, shoot hoops, play air hockey or darts. There is always something goin gon and the prices are reasonable. One of the only good hangs that I have found since moving out here three years ago, but admittedly I do not go out a lot.

Before anybody reads on, I must state that the SHARK CITY (yes same place, same location) 5-10 years ago was INCREDIBLE, a 4 STAR RATING AT MINIMUM. What happened you may ask? - read on.

It will always be amazing how a new owner (or new owners, per say) can come into a happening place and change a few things (little things is one thing, MAJOR things are another!) here and there without any real thought and think people won't notice. Heh..

Back in the day, Shark City was THEE place to be. Always packed and 'happening'. Not only did you get the usual good cover and local bands, but NATIONAL ACTS came through - at least 7-8 a year. Now of course, many people will (ignorantly) say the bands that came through were old, or well out of their primes - which may be true at heart. But they came through, drew BIG crowds, and lined Shark City's pockets with mucho dinero. Vince Neil (Motley Crue), Ratt, Vanilla Ice, Quiet Riot, Great White, Brett Michaels, Sponge, Biohazard, and many others. I was at most of these, and I remember the place having a sign that posted a limit of 650 people...and I know it was BEYOND that on these nights...!

Now - Large Saturday Cover charges. Usually $8 - $10, and the best you get NOW, as I mentioned, is a cover band. You'll also notice the crowds are about 50% OF WHAT THEY ONCE WERE!! I saw Ratt and Biohazard there for $10, and Sponge and Great White for $8. Of course, that was the old Shark City though...

Shark also hosted the WWE and UFC pay-per-views back in the day. They would charge $3 at the door, which wasn't too bad (considering if you order them at home they are upwards of $30 to $50). Then, that all stopped.

I and many people went here on several New Year's Eves - GOD was this fun. They totally decked the place out. Bands (sometimes several!!), dancing, champaine, games, contests, you name it. All for about a $20 wristband. You could literally go here on this night and if you were even half-way talkative - meet several new friends.

The menu at one time was GREAT. GREAT food, burgers, nachos, 3-5 page menu - almost like a restuarant menu! The food was tremendous!

What happened you may ask??

Well, back around 2006-early 2008ish (for at least 18 months), Shark City was permanently CLOSED. Few people knew why, but it was obviously suspicious. I mean, what place who had been doing SO WELL would just up and go out of business? Well...that didnt exactly happen....

Turns out, Shark City had to "close" and remain closed pending some kind of huge legalities and investigation. ** WHILE NONE OF THIS HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED (for obvious reasons), apparently, before it closed it was found to have served some underaged clientelle. By horrible coincidence, those same underaged clientelle then got into a bad car accident (or some kind of bad accident) that same night and either killed themselves, and/or other parties. While the minute specifics have remained hush-hush, the management and place were investigated and shut down (and probably fined or sued, I cant confirm that, though) while all the legal preceedings played out for well over a year and HUGE lawsuits by several families loomed. Pretty sad, huh.

Eventually, Shark City re-opened. But was it really Shark City? Hardly.

New owners (let me say that again: NEW OWNERS), new rules, new menus, hardly any of the old nostalgia was kept the same.

Few if any big name/old national acts coming through. So now, the best you'll see is Seventh Heaven or High Infidelity play Shark every other week. Nothing against that, as those bands play cool tunes, but don't expect anything other than the local cover bands to be booked there. One of the main driving forces of Shark City was those national acts that would be booked there and bring in huge revenue. However, the new owners must not see it that way (or are maybe playing it safe now...)

Menu - TERRIBLE. One sided laminated sheet. About 10 items to chose from. No more of those great nachos or burgers or chili dogs or other great food items. If you order an italian sausage or brat, it comes with potato chips and on a hotdog bun. Hotdogs are nothing more than the Jewel brand hotdog (Jewel is right next door, too) served on a regular bun. 'Nuff said.

No more WWE or UFC ppvs. That was another little perk which not only made Shark stand out, but also bring in some extra revenue.

Bathrooms - NASTY. This has always been the case though. Toilets are filthy and usually dripping with you know what. Guys, if you have to do number 2 - walk into Jewel, or you'd be safer and better off driving home!

Shark City has just become an average sports bar now where you can get drinks, play pool, and see a cover band on a Saturday night. There are dozens of these types of places out there.

Shark City is a classic case of a HAS-BEEN. You can blame the new/continuous revolving door of management for this.

this place has plenty of room. the beer specials are great too. the couple of times i went, there were $1 berghoffs.

however, both times, the female bartender that served us was pretty snooty. she'd rarely come back to check on us. things like that would make me hesitant to return, but the specials are what makes me want to go back for happy hour, hoping for a different server.

This place started out to be pretty cool. I came on Sundays when no one was there except a few alcoholics and apparent drug users. Sometimes the occasional crew of lesbians showed up and laughed a lot and stared at my friend Nick who looks like he might be a lesbian.
The place took a turn for the worst when lots of the bar staff began getting pregnant. You know your bar's team atmosphere will degrade when babies are being made.
I would have given 5 stars maybe a year ago when the chicken tenders were really good and everything was cheaper and there was less baby making.

Love, Silky

Back in the day (2k7) this was DEFINITELY a 2.5 star place. Definitely. Like for sure. They had nice sized wings. The waitress, Sam, was awesome. And they used to have an Asian Combo Platter.

But then Sam got pregnant.

Understandably, Sam stopped working to have her baby. In her place was this girl with blondish hair, and bad roots. It's pretty likely that she is a habitual user of several kinds of narcotics. I'm not trying to say that this lady can't do her narcotics, but she probably shouldn't do her narcotics. Because it made her sloooooooooooooow and forgetful. Our group would order things, and we'd never get them. When we did get them, it was a new menu. One that caused frowns.

I can't recommend this place anymore. Which is too bad, because in 2k7, I totes would have. Plus there are people here who play a Bags videogame, even though the actual game bags is about 30 feet away.

It's not bad for what it is. I met my brother, sister-in-law and a couple of her friends for some drinks here Saturday night, and had a pretty decent time. As other reviewers mentioned, the place is huge. So even when there is a lot of people, it never really seems crowded. They had a really crappy band in the back room playing some ghastly southern rock type music. We were greatful the outdoor patio was open with a "DJ" playing music that better suited our taste. The Cabo Wabo girls were there and we got a free shot of tequila. Sweet! This outdoor patio was definitely the saving grace of my experience here.

Now, for some criticism. First, the $8 cover charge. I'm getting really tired of suburban restaurant/bars that pretend to be clubs on Friday and Saturday nights charging cover. You're not a real club. Just because you have a fake ass DJ playing his premixed mp3s on his laptop doesn't make you a club, thus there should be no reason for a cover. If the band you had playing there were actually good, I might understand. Not the case. Secondly: The people. Now I'm hesitant to bring the rating down for the quality of people, because I can generally complain about people anywhere. But this place definitely features an odd mixture of white trash, cougars, douche bags, and a few young punkass wannabe "thugs". And lastly, this place deems it acceptable to serve premium beer in plastic cups. What?! Isn't this kind of like eating filet mignon on a paper plate with plastic utensils? This should be a crime.

This is a decent place if your plans to go somewhere better fell through. You know, that last minute "well it's already late and this place is close" type. Or just a place to go when you really don't feel like being home. Like I said, not bad for what it is.

Shark City is a great place to see a band or shoot some pool.
The drinks however are watered down and the service is hit or miss.

I attended a special event at Shark City the weekend of October 13-15, 2009.

It commemorated the 20th anneversary of the closing of The Thirsty Whale (look it up). Lots of bands on Saturday evening. Two stages, almost 40 bands for $20 cover...

For two or three songseach, and as I learned from the staff, an epoch surge of business. The audio was terrible, since the two stages were across from eachother by less than a football field.

As an FYI they have free pool in the middle of the day at the beginning of the week- look to http://sharkcity.biz for more info- and $1 domestic somethings on Thursdays.

They also have live band karaoke. Hmm..

Sometimes the sunday female bartender comes hung over from her night of parting and gives lazy service. They should hire some of the staff better and the food is not that good. it is a big place and there are not many other things to do in glendale heights

Never Ever Again.
Apparently there was some "he said she said" name dropping this place to my pals. We checked it out, immediately greeted by a large empty facility in which we were forced to pay $8 cover.
For what? 20 big screen tvs playing UFC, along with some crappy music acts the next big room over.

Wait what am I saying, they were alright, poor bands think that Shark City is a sweet venue to play- I just think with such a BIG place, there ought to be a way for them to divvy up the bar for a show and one for the ostentatious pool hall.

There were some sexily dressed ladies walking around to all the mens in the place asking if they wanted to buy tickets for some raffle. Oh please! As if we haven't already poured money into getting in here.

Any drink specials? No? Okay, we're all really hating this place now.

Besides the 20 something UFC fanatics, there were awkward 30 and 40 something couples. I kid you not, there was a middle-aged woman, full hair and makeup, wearing a Bears turtleneck, jeans and a baby backpack. Tragic. It was worse that she was getting much more action than me at that point.

If you want to empty your wallet in the most painful way possible, get hit on by guys who absolutely LOVE Spike TV, and peek into your backpack-wearing future as a yuppie that just loves her Army Wives marathons Come one, come all to Shark City, leave your best judgments at the door.

3 stars - For being a good local band venue.

2.5 stars - For allowing smokers to light up out on the patio.

1 star - For sanitation purposes. Bathrooms are beyond gross.

This place is huge! I don't think I've ever seen a billiards hall this large. They seem to divide the place into four separate areas. The first is for pool. Tables are 7" and 9". The game area also has bean bags, hoops and darts. The second area appeared to be your typical bar. The middle, third section, was the outdoor smoking patio and the fourth area just had more drinking sections.

I've heard the atmosphere depends on what day you come. It was Thursday and become more packed as the night progressed, but never became chaotic. I think our waitress was set on getting up drunk. She came by every few minutes to see if we needed drinks. Domestic bottles were only $1 and each game of pool was $1. Not too bad to just pass the time.
