Kinda mixed on this. Â My friends and I were hunting for a Hookah Bar and this was the only place we could find. Â Extremely ghetto and seedy compared to the really nice hookah lounges found on the West Coast. Â
- There is a time limit since the place is so small
- The enforce 4 people to a hookah. So if you have a fifth friend who doesn't feel like smoking, they will make you buy a second hookah (for $25/pop)
- No booze - only water, soda, and tea
- They refused to serve tap water because they are cheap, and charge kind of a lot for bottled water. Â Given that it's a very smoky lounge, you'll definitely need hydration.
- You will be surrounded by dazed BU undergrads
- 18% fixed gratuity
- A spider sprinted across our table
- Refused to take reservations and also refused to give time estimate to us when we called in advance, saying we "had to be there in person to put our names on the list"
Overall fit our basic needs of finding a hookah lounge last minute in Boston. Â Our flavors weren't too strong but the servers didn't seem to care too much when we commented. Â Clearly VERY cheap management (that or they're really struggling to make money) based on the many restrictions/policies.
In search of a nicer hookah lounge in Boston.....
I like that they don't rush you out. You can take all the time you need for your hookah without feeling like they want you to leave.
Get there early enough on weekends though. If you show up after 10PM, you'll have a wait. We got there around 8 and were seated immediately but then soon after we heard people arriving and they were told there was a wait.
Strawberry hookah is delish!
Honestly, I had a horrible experience.
It was over an hour wait, we were seated at 1:15 and told the Hookah was being brought out promptly for "maximum hookah smoking time", yet we got it 25 minutes later.. giving us roughly 20 minutes to smoke..
Then my buddy asked for a drink and an order of chips w/ salsa..and the server turned to be angrily and asked "do you want something to?" to which i replied "im all set for now Ill let you know If i need something."
She gave me an even dirtier look and responded by saying "well i need to know now cause i wont get it for you later", so obviously this upset me and i responded by saying "ok then i dont want anything"
the smoke was bad, never got milky, and once it was getting close to getting milky it got harsh. They did a bad job in maintenance for the hookah, and me along with my buddy were just getting frustrated since throughout the duration of our smoking session they kept reminding us about the time we had.
By the time it hit 1:55 they were practically telling us every 10 seconds that we needed to leave, and at one point one of the ladies picked up the wind breaker and commanded everyone to go "TO THE DOOR, TO THE DOOR" like some kind of hookah-nazi or something. I honestly did not even want to pay, but im a gentleman, so not only did we pay, but we left tip.
I dont think ill be returning to Sheesha lounge, maybe if they had an employee makeover.
My favorite hookah lounge in Boston!
So I came here last night with a few friends since Habibi had a long wait and I'm so happy we ended up here instead. First of all, between this place, Nile and Habibi, the environment here is the best, in my opinion. Nile is more chic and hip and Habibi is very traditional (not my scene at all) but Sheesha Lounge was very relaxed and FUN. I felt like I was in one of my (cleaner) hipster Allston friend's living room haha. I say that in the best way possible. It's definitely catered to the younger crowd.
The people who work here are awesome. They were super fun and put up with my group and our song requests and obnoxious singing. Hell, they even let my friend do the Cotton Eye Joe in the middle of the room. My friends and I loved Michelle and Erin! Seriously, they made our experience here amazing. We probably scared away a couple customers with our loud singing but whatever. I'm going to assume it's not that crazy and loud every night but if you aren't prepared to have fun and live a little, take that shit to Nile or Habibi haha.
As for our hookah itself, we had Cosmopolitan and Watermelon; both of which were fantastic! We never had to remind Michelle to change our coals; she was super attentive and great. Not once did our hookah become harsh, so bonus points! I had so much fun here. I'll definitely be back and will recommend this place to all my hookah-loving friends.
A cozy place and kind of out of the way (everything in Allston is out of the way though), but it has a nice atmosphere, wide selection of sheesha flavors, and good service. I went a while back, on a random weeknight, so it wasn't crowded at all. The seats by the windows can get super drafty and cold during the winter, but they have a little portable space heater that help if you still want the nice spots despite the chill.
Prices are reasonable especially if you have the Yelp deal-- I had some tea (which isn't really worth it, but I've never considered some hot water from an electric kettle and a tea bag to be worth $3.50. free refills though!), and a pretty standard mango flavor. I do want to try one of the mixes next time! 3 refills of coals is more than enough; the server even gave us some extra even though we were getting ready to leave and just called him over for the check. (:
I come here every other week or so. It's definitely a chill spot/lounge area, and the hookah is just a plus. Most of the time I come here for a place to talk and just hangout. I prefer sheesha over nile because it sets the vibe, with the couches and pillows. The hookahs however aren't as strong as the Nile, and don't filter as much smoke in one hit.
The wait on the weekends can be crazy (over an hour wait!). And the service sometimes can be slow. Like the three times I asked for water but never received it, or the times I just sat there and waited for them to finally approach us to take our order. But once you get  your hookah, you're good to go. Definitely one of my favorite places to hit up at night. no alcohol or drugs involved =)
Definitely glad to get in a positive review for my trip to New England. Â Even better, this will be one of many. Â
After meeting up with some old boarding school friends in Boston, we all somehow decided on hookah as the beginning to a night. Â I wish I had checked Yelp first because we ended up ordering the Head Daze, which was fantastic, BTW. Â
Anyways, after literally having someone in front of the place pull away right when were pulling up, we put our names on the list, then decided to go down the street to some pizza place and eat/drink at the bar there. Â A word to the wise, they will go outside and call your name, but they will not hold your space after that. Â We of course missed our space, which wasn't really an issue, because I needed to go back to the bar to get more of a buzz going anyways, but it was cold outside and frequently is in Boston so I hear so keep this in mind. Â
Very quickly after sitting down, we were greeted by people that I will not call hipsters, simply "eccentric." Â Zoolander was playing on the screen, which was cool. Â Anyway, we order the Head Buzz. Â
It was really, really good. Â They pack the hookah really well and you can tell that they don't skimp at all. Â They came around with fresh coals every so often, and the hookah didn't really lose its flavor at all, at least not before we left. Â The tea that I ordered was delicious. Â None of us ordered food as we had just eaten but it looked good on some of the other tables. Â
The atmosphere is really cool as well and exactly what we were looking for. Â Chill, but not divey. Â The clientele seemed really cool. Â It was really comfortable in there. Â
The biggest thing I would wish for this place is to get an alcohol license. Â But then, I'm sure getting one in Massachusetts is much harder than in my college town of N'awlins.
awww Sheesha! I have had the pleasure of going to this place a few times in the last year thanks to the Yelp Deal. I've been to a few Hookah Bars, and Sheesha is definitely not my favorite, yet it has a unique feeling to it. It's one of those places I will be going back to, the only problem with this place is the wait. There is just no way of knowing how long you have to wait and no place to wait at. over the summer waiting is no problem, the problem with waiting is in Boston's extremely cold winters because there is no waiting area. Â
I have probably attempted to make it in the place 5 times and have only manage to go pass the waiting twice. Those two times I did make it inside, I must say I had an amazing experience, Â our waitress was super nice, Hookah was delicious, and with the Yelp deal It's really inexpensive compare to other places.
what I didn't like so much was how unauthentic the place is, the music is on request so most people that go here request raps and other top 40 kind of music, which takes away from the authentic Arabic experience I expect to get from a hookah lounge. Thankfully you can request Arabic music and make your own middle eastern atmosphere.
3 out of probably the 4 times I was told I had to wait I left right away. The one time I did decide it was worth the wait I waited around an hour and nothing, but then again I was accompanied by a group of 6. The waitress was nice about it, but did not give me realistic expectations on my waiting time. I guess o next time I should just go with a smaller group, at an earlier time and not on a Friday night.
Overall this place is great if you are over 18 and under 21, in the city of Boston which has a lot of things to do for people over 21 but not enough for the ones in between 18 and 21. Of course there is also habibi's one street over, which has a  more authentic atmosphere but squishes people to fit everyone in and create less of a waiting time. I would recommend waiting till you can head out to NYC or Providence for some hookah, they have amazing spacious places, that sometimes even host belly dancers, If your like me stuck in Boston for a while, heading to sheesha on a monday, tuesday or wednesday night = not a bad idea.
It's one of those few places where you'll actually be impressed by how above and beyond the staff go to serve you. Â They do a phenomenal job, despite being total hipster vegan potheads that like to listen to shit music and watch shit indie movies. Â
And what makes it very different from the other hookah bars is the entertainment they provide. Â The staff regularly plays movies or popular television programs on the projector, and there are plenty of card and board games. Â If you're lucky to nab a spot near the window, you can land yourself a nice, isolated booth that's perfect for a date. Â And they offer standard fare of hookah, as well as some great combinations. Â Price is pretty good too!
The downside? Â This place is the size of David the Gnome's house. Â Yes that's right, I made an obscure cartoon reference. Â Don't even act like you don't know what I'm saying right now! Â It's too tiny, so coming here around most nights will almost always automatically result in waiting. Â Better to hold off until all those pesky college kids pack up and go home to test your luck grabbing a seat here. Â And unlike the Nile, they don't bother taking down names and phone numbers to call those people that are on the waiting list. Â What's a guy like me supposed to do, hang outside in the bitter cold? Â Naaaaa.
If you can get a seat here, then you'll be pleased with your experience. Â Playing cards and smoking hookah definitely makes up for the fact that they don't serve alcohol.
I wish I could give it 0 stars!! We got there on Thursday night and the hostess told us to wait outside for 15 mins and then we would have a table. We waited for 45 and then lost patience - so head back without any apology either! Oh the room was so smoke filled since they had no ventilation either! Not impressive at all...
Review Source:This place should get no stars. Last night was the 3x in a couple weeks I've tried to go. When Sheesha Lounge first opened up, I went just out of curiosity. Aside from the staff being absolute stoners and the service would have been better by 5y/os, it was a decent experience. So..after seeing the Yelp deal, I figured to give it a go. Boy, was I wrong.
The first time I came (about 2 weeks ago), was a Sunday night, and the lady said it'd be a 15 minute wait. So...15 minutes passed, then another, and finally another. I finally walked in again and asked for an update. As polite as she was, she just told us to wait. Since it was late, we waited 20 more minutes, and left.
The second time, I came, a sign hung on the door that it was cash only. Kind of annoying, but whatever. Same lady told us to wait 45 minutes...45 min passed, and still nothing.
Let's fast forward to last night:
Four of us walked in, and stood next to 2 girls who had already been waiting. (FYI, one of which, had been a former employee there). Some guy came up to them and said "Ladies, I've already told you it will be 10 minutes, now, wait outside" and gave a super dirty look. Then turned to us and politely asked how he could help. We tried to get a table, and he said it'd be a 45minute wait. Before I could even respond, the girls next to us tried to ask him a question and he barked at them to wait outside. Seriously, how rude is that?! After trying to ask what that was all about, the girl next to us walked back in, and in a few seconds came out and said "he just said " what, do you expect an apology or something?"
I'm sorry, but even if you've never worked as a waitress/server, or done anything in customer service, it's simply common sense to know better.
I was embarrassed in front of my friends who were new to the city, and shocked at  the incident. The staff seriously are all jerks and stoners, and with the turn-over rate, I'm surprised they haven't closed down. The setting is nice, but that's about it.
I'm curious to see the new Nile, but we ended up going to Habibi's on Comm Ave (comm+harvard), and it was WAY better, and really authentic!
Last night was my first time at Sheesha, and we had a good time.
The small place in a seemingly sketchy location was packed when we walked in at 11:30, but the staff took my name and said there was a group ready to leave so we'd be able to sit shortly. About 5 minutes later, they came outside to get us. Sheesha is basically one big room with various seating configurations, some comfy benches and some hard ones, with some neat spaces (I like the area next to the window up the stairs). Lots of red walls and exposed brick, it had a cozy, friendly feel.
We went with a pomegranate which was nice, next time I'd do a blend (perhaps add some mint in?). I loved that they give each person their own individual sanitary mouthpiece, big plus there. A few of us got Moroccan Mint tea, which was a bit messy as the tea bags were massive and were leaking over the side, and I wish the mug had been bigger, but oh well.
The music selection was interesting and not what I usually expect at a hookah bar (Lil John?) but there was an awesome Thai fighting movie on the projector that amused us. Service was OK, the waitresses were really sweet and the coal guy was attentive, but my friend asked for a water and it never came, and we had to flag someone down to get our check.
My DC friend ranted about how expensive it was compared to what she's used to, but $25 for 1 flavor ($35 for blends) is normal for these parts, and the hookah will last you a long time plus they're very attentive with the (complimentary) coals. Our group of 5 were going for about 1.5-2 hours on the one hookah. I'll likely be back.
After a trip to egypt,
i really enjoyed our evening sheesha sessions.
i stopped in here with some pals that had never indulged.
We had a great time. The staff was very helpful, and suggested a Mojito/Pomegranate blend, that was very good, sweet and refreshing.
It was slow, and they asked us if we had a musical preference, and said they would put pandora on for us. nice touch.
So we relaxed and watched a terrible movie on the projection screen, it was perfect.
my friends enjoyed it greatly.
I love this place. My friend an I have made it a ritual to smoke hookah and grab a hot dog from Spike's afterward. The "head buzz" is definitely our favorite - a mixture of rose, mint, and some kind of citrus. It's $35 a set up for the specialty blends but you can attach up to four tubey things to it. Compared to other places, the atmosphere is great and they do not charge you to change coals. The staff is friendly and attentive, coming around often to check/change your coals.
Review Source:I wish you could do half-stars, because i wanna give this place 4.5 stars!
Anyway- I've been going here for a year or two, and I have to say I have yet to be truly disappointed. The only times I've left this place with a frown is when theyre full and the wait is well over an hour.
The people who work here are all very sweet, they'll switch the music to your liking, they'll pop in a DVD Â that you request, or if you're into sports- theyll even throw on the game upon request. NOT BAD AT ALL!
Prices are average for a hookah bar, and they use top-notch stuff. While I'm at school, I cant bring my beautiful Maya hookah in the building so it's great to come to this spot from time to time for my release.
Anyway, let me stop rambling- because clearly I have an issue with that...
The cast of characters who work here are awesome. I don't know names but theres the cute girl, on the thin side, who is almost always here when I stop by. She's a total sweet heart! and she knows her ish!
The girl with the tattoos is who I dealt with while here last weekend. She was awesome. My friend and I were here for a solid 2 hours and we were never rushed or felt like we were taking up space. She was very courteous, and stopped to have general conversations with us- not just run of the mill waitress talk.
Theres also a guy here who I've seen working a few times. He's not super tall and is average build -but hes also very nice and is always interested in the music we request on their pandora playlist.
Now theres the one teeny negative I have for this place. while here recently, my bill was a bit effed up and i ended up being charged 5 dollars twice (i had a 20 dollar charge on my card and i tipped her $5, which went through twice)- it really isnt that big of a deal, I know sometimes credit card machines can be a royal pain in the butt... so i def will let it slide. Cant wait to stop in again soon,
I recommend the headbuzz concoction. its fantastic and burns for. ever.
Came here on a Tuesday evening with a serious hankering for hookah. Â We easily snagged a window table (which was a tad bit drafty, so perhaps not the best option for a cooler night) and deliberated over the menu. Â Our server, Mike, came by to offer advice and we finally settled on a blend of blueberry and lemon - a truly juicy combo. Â And, of course, a couple cups of Moroccan Mint tea.
After Jeopardy! was over, they switched on some college basketball and set up the projector to play Cool Hand Luke - um, awesome! The atmosphere was very relaxing, awesome tunes were played, and the other patrons were quite chill and friendly.
Our sheesha lasted us for the entirety of CHL, so the price really isn't that unreasonable. Mike and Ruth were very friendly and attentive, regularly stopping by with fresh coals and hot water for our tea. Â No doubt that we'll be back!
It started with a funny conversation I had with my Egyptian neighbor about taking me with him on a quick trip to Egypt. Â So we drove from Saugus all the way to Allston. Â We parked in front of this unassuming place. Â It was in the middle of nowhere. Â Kinda boring right?
We walked inside and it was like an underground party!  Exotic!  PACKED with people! It had an authentic  feeling of warmth with it's beautiful artwork and warm decor!  The staff was very friendly and caring..... impressive when you consider the craziness of the place!
So we ordered some drinks and had hookah. Â It was something you smoked with a taste of apple to it. Â It was something I never had before and it was incredible! Â The biggest surprise was that they serve Middle Eastern food! Â I have to tell you, I am the biggest fan of M.E. food. Â I have tried all the M.E. food places in the Boston area including Watertown, Brookline, Cambridge, and Allston. Â We ordered hummus, falafel babaganoush and we shared a chicken and a lamb shwarma. Â DELICIOUS! Â
i can't believe that today, all I can think about is this great place puts all the other M.E restaurants to shame and it's not even a restaurant! . Â I will be back soon. Â Sheesha has the total package of the Middle Eastern experience! Â I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!
This place was okay..I've been to better hookah bars. It's pretty small but has a good atmosphere. It was pretty dead when me and my friends came. We came here because Habibi's lounge was packed and there was a line outside.
I think we tried the peach flavored, it tasted good but I felt nothing for some reason. The 3 of us shared 1 hookah and I should've felt at least something! How odd....
I had a good time, but it wasn't great.
Is this place expensive? Yes. But every hookah lounge in this city is. Get off your couch, leave your cheap store bought hookah behind and try this place out. The atmosphere is great. Went here on a Wednesday night around 10 and there were two other people in there. We got the  "VIP" corner and got a bowl of amazing. Mike, the resident shisha expert, came over to check on us often, change the coals up for us, and tell us more about the blends and hookah culture. He even gave us some tips on how to make our home hookah experience better. Amaaaaaazing playlist that night- Otis Redding, Beach Boys, Beatles, Mamas & the Papas, though he did warn us on weekends they play more hip hop and it gets a little crazy with the college crowd. I'd definitely recommend this place for a chill weeknight date spot. Ask for Mike, he'll hook you up :)
Review Source:This place is awesome! You can pick your own music, flavors, and the seating setup is very comfy. Gotta love it! Mike and Ruth are great! Kudos to them for maintaining a casual and welcoming environment.
A little on the pricey side for sheesha ($30-35), but if you go with 3 or more people it works out.
Cozy. Chill. Intimate. Yummy hookah, no wait on a Saturday night, and not crazy expensive. It was nice to smoke hookah in a peaceful, relaxing environment where I could lay on their couch until 2 a.m and talk to a friend, VERSES the alternative of being in an overcrowded Allston box with a bunch of loud wasted collage kids.
Just so you know in advance, they don't serve alcoholic drinks. Kind of a bummer but does manage to keep away the loud wasted ppl. which would ruin the sweet aura the Sheesha environment...
Sheesha Lounge is my favorite place to go for hookah, locally.
From the outside, it's pretty unnoticable but inside it's beautiful, very relaxing and lots of places to sit and relax. My favorite spot is the window seat, with the curtains and angled couch.
The best part about these arrangements is the amount of card and board games they have on hand. If you come with a group you can easily have a great time, or even get a bunch of random other patrons to join in. Additionally, they almost always have some sort of interesting movie playing in the background here.
The shisha here is expensive, everything is pretty expensive infact. They serve beverages like soda and water and tea and also snacks variably. The tea is generally pretty good, though I've had better, it doesn't fail completely to satisfy a need.
The biggest drawback is that this establishment has a seemingly revolving door of staff. I've been here numerous times, and I don't think I've EVER seen the same person working here more than once. Additionally, they don't generally schedule more than one person at a time on a shift, so if it gets busy, it's usually just one poor soul running around.
Sadly, as a result of the aforementioned, in regards to service, your mileage may very EXTREMELY.
The same can be said for the music, venture at your own risk.
I've been there nights where the service and the music were both top notch, the person was a joy to chat with overall and the music was perfect. Other nights, there is a person working that is very cut-and-dry and doesn't seem to want to be there, or doesn't quite do enough, and there is obnoxious music.
Overall, the chance of getting good service and/or having a good atmosphere and music is ambiguous. Just know that much, but also know I've had many wonderful nights here as well. :)
Sheesha is a great place! I went with two friends from work and it was nice to just sit and relax in a quiet place. It was also refreshing to get away from the "bar" scene for a night, yet still have a place to hangout late at.
We tried the peach and it was delicious! I also bought a coconut italian soda, which I'd recommend. The coffee and great too!
The guy that was on was very friendly and we had great service. We were pretty giggly all night and they didn't seem to mind.
okay, where do i begin.
NEVER in my life have I ever witnessed such abysmal service. I was literally in shock at how the staff literally did nothing. I'm not the type to ever complain but I was so disgusted I absolutely had to complain to one of the staff members who responded by saying " its a hookah bar, like, most hookah bars are really chill".
okay, iv been to hookah bars all over the world and never in my life have a seen ANYTHING like this. If the owners of that place are wondering why Nile is packed every night while they are empty, they should really work out a new business plan.
To start on the good points, the interiors of this place makes you think of the shisha cafe you would own if you were that way inclined.
The decor is pleasant and adds well to the ambiance, the music however is dire, so it helps if you come armed with a bunch of friends loud enough to drown out your attention to the music.
Unfortunately in other aspects this place was gravely lacking. Â The service was abysmal and needs to be dramatically improved, it was beyond S L O W Â to the point where it was virtually none existent.
The whole pay off of going to a shisha cafe where they SERVE you shisha for whatever extortionate amount they want to charge (usually out here its the same price as what you pay to buy your OWN hookah from any armenian shop in  Watertown...),  is that you get waited on with someone devoted to tending to coals that are always on the go, anticipating that moment just before you're going to need another.
That does not happen at the Sheesha Lounge however.
It doesn't matter that they charge you $3 for coal after your first 3 coals, because you're never going to get round to three or even two coals...
The tea seams like an inviting choice, and it could have been pleasant if it wasn't served with luke warm water and the cup filled only half full for $3.50. Â They don't sell tap water so I was hesitant to even enquire about a hot refill.
In all, a very disappointing experience, given that on a previous occasion we had eagerly made a pilgrimage to this establishment just to find it closed for the entire evening, apparently because someone hadn't turned up for work...
Your efforts are better spent heading over to Watertown and buying a hookah of your own - you'll have a much more enjoyable experience at least, safe in the knowledge that you're getting your moneys worth...
So far my favorite hookah lounge in the Boston area. Why, Â you ask?
* The prices are reasonable
* Easy to find location
* Nice music
* Cozy and not over crowded with people
* Great flavor options
* board games!
I personally recommend the "head buzz"- it's great. For about $30, the sheesha really lives up to its name, I'll tell you that much!
There usually aren't that many people in there, and you can sit in one of the window booths to for even more privacy. There is a stack of board games readily available and I have found that combining scrabble with smoking sheesha is quite a fun activity.
The place is pretty low key but they usually have really great international music combined with some sort of artful images or videos on the flat screen.
Great place- I love it!
True story of 5 friends:
Friday night movie plan falls through. Â It's now 10:45PM and we want to go out. Â One friend forgets her ID. Â Another is wearing sweats and sandals. Â Friend #3 and 4 are both wearing sneakers. Â
Hmm... where to go in Boston that can pretty much accommodate all of us fools? Â We are not in the active mood to bowl or sing karaoke.
Thankfully, Yelp leads us to Sheesha Lounge. Â We drive over and find parking easily. Â There are only two other parties when we arrive. Â A few of us order flavored sodas (amaretto and bailey's). Â We share the $35 Sheesha special - forget what it's called exactly, but it's infused with rose, mint, and lemon flavors. Â The host/server tests our hookah for us - something I'm not used to, but appreciate it. Â He is friendly, follows up, and doesn't mind that we are the last remaining party to stay until closing at 2:00AM. Â I would suggest better song transition but it was a one-man show, so can't blame him. Â And I'd definitely recommend the special - almost on par with what I've had out of country. Â Too bad it was not a multi-tube hookah for easier sharing. Â
Oh yeah, awkward moment when my Asian friends and I realize that a modern Asian movie is playing on the flat screen in front of us. Â Coincidence or intent?
What distinguish Sheesha Lounge from others are eclectic decor and the cozy atmosphere with various available entertainment. Â Next time, find me smokin' it up in the elevated, semi-private, window seating area or in an intense video or board game session ;)
PS. Â The menu no longer offers food.
On the way back from Deep Ellum, ran into the Sheesha Lounge. It's a place with a vibe of a faraway land, with its exotic tobaccos and friendly crowd, right here in Allston! Here, people may share their sheeshas with strangers. You will find Sheeshas  recommended by knowledgeable staff. I would recommend trying Jasmine with a hint of mint. The Moroccan Mint tea is excellent with it. The menu is limited, but complements the flavors of Sheeshas well.
The decor is eclectic, but not as rich as it could be, such as the prints on the wall of the main space, but loved the large terracotta piece in the restroom. Would've preferred a stronger central theme.
As you may expect, the place is very smoky, but some may consider this part of the charm. These are minor criticisms, I'm glad Sheesha Lounge is in Allston, now I have no reason to go to Charlestown.
This place is exactly that, a-ok. I felt a little weird coming here, given my relationship with the dudes at Nile (and that I felt this was kind of a rip-off copy cat business), but my boyfriend really wanted to hang out with some of his buddies who were out on a double date so I kindly agreed to come along.
The decor in here is nice - the exposed red brick, the curtains, it's a great foil to the sleek, contemporary, vibe at Nile. Overall I liked it. Â
Now, on to the service and the quality. Service here is non existent. It's like the people that work here move.......i............n.......s...............l.Â..............o...........w..............m...o....Â.....t........i...........o........n....
Seriously. It's painful. Getting a glass of water takes 15 minutes - and that's when we're the only people in the place. We arrived about an hour and a half before closing and it took so long to get our hookah sorted out that we barely had a full thirty minutes to enjoy it (sort of awkward). The shisha itself was ok - but the quality definitely not what I'm used to - the rose flavor we got to blend actually burned my throat and nose a bit.
All in all this is an ok place to go to pop your hookah cherry and a nice complement to the neighborhood. It's not really somewhere I'll go with any regularity (I also felt a little awkward being about 10 years older than the only other groups we saw wander in and out), but it's not a bad stop to hit if you're in the neighborhood and too young to hang out at one of the pubs.
I know crap about hookah, honestly, but I was brought here by some friends tonight for a Friday night out. So much more fun than going to bars, really! I was mesmerized by the big screen with the large, bellydancing ladies played on the xbox set to the loud, thumping techno music. Then later on in the night, they played that Wizard of Oz synched up with Pink Floyd thing everyone knows about but no one has ever seen. I'm a huge fan of this kind of bizarre entertainment. I favor it immensely over, say, popped collars and bud lights.
The staff was super, super friendly and laid-back about the experience and wanted to make sure I had an awesome time. Will definitely go back.
Came here last night (same as Albert L from previous review) and I cant comprehend what he is complaining about. I came with 3 girlfriends and we ordered the grape hookah with the extra coal and we enjoyed every minute of it. You can clearly taste the tremendous quality of the hookah from the start and he keeps its flavor the entire time. The ambience is great - just right without trying "too hard" and alot more intimate than Tangerino in Charlestown. We would not hesitate to go back anytime. The staff was wonderful and it was a great place to chill for a different type of 'girls night out'.
Review Source:Blink and you'll miss it, but if you've got your eyes open and you're looking for a decent Hookah Bar in the Allston area, Sheesha Lounge shouldn't disappoint.
The Shisha flavors are fairly varied, though they could be a hit-or-miss. The Jasmine is some of the smoothest I've ever had, while the Double Apple wasn't anything special, and almost had a Black Licorice flavor to it (which I don't mind, if I order Black Licorice). The quality of Shisha seems pretty high, given the fact that there were virgin hookah smokers in the group I attended with and none of them dealt with any coarse or harsh smoke. The Hookahs were good, since myself and the party I was with had two flavors we ended up swapping hookahs, and both got decent pulls without any major issue. The lounge provides hose caps for hygienic reasons, which is nice - though it was strange that they didn't seem to have any multi-hose hookahs.
Atmosphere wise, the Sheesha Lounge is a great place to chill and converse. The Techno music playing was a little upbeat for my Hookah-time desires (I don't mind techno, but when I'm in a dimly lit hookah bar I prefer something totally mellow), but it was kept at a reasonable volume so I didn't have to fight to speak to people. The large television in the center of the bar is part 'cool' part 'distraction.' The night we were there they were showing a wildlife show, and watching a tiger attack a gazelle while mellowing out elicited a strange response from our party - the women present felt it was sad, the men were rooting for the tiger - but I can't help but think the feelings evoked were totally out of place. When I smoke with friends, it's social, so the television was pushed to the back burner in short order. I suppose it works for some people, but it wasn't for me.
The staff seemed very nice, and I even discussed Honey Shisha with one of them. Hopefully someday it'll be on the flavor roster! They seemed genuinely happy to work at the place, which is a good thing, because it reflects in their work. They were prompt with coal adjustments and friendly overall.
The crowd on the night we went was fine. Another review here mentions the crowd and/or the staff had attitude, but I didn't experience anything of the sort. In fact, the other patrons kept to themselves except for when my party asked another person to take a group photo of us, and they obliged kindly.
Finally, prices. Sure - it's expensive. Anyone who expects prices to match Shisha you'd purchase for at-home use is crazy. This is a Hookah Bar. We all know beer is a lot cheaper at the packie than it is at a bar, but that's just the way things are. Add to that the fact that you smoke Hookah in group, and the total cost is spread a bit more than if you get an MGD at the watering hole. Any way you cut it, it's not unreasonable.
All in all, Sheesha Lounge is a very solid little Hookah Bar. I can easily anticipate a return visit to try some of the other flavors on their menu. The experience was an overall pleasurable one, and I'd recommend Sheesha Lounge to anyone in the Allston/Brighton area looking for a Hookah fix.
went with the coconut shisha and was pretty pleased. Â shared a hookah with 2 others and since we were the first customers they gave us the big hookah - didn't even come close to finishing and it we were there for 2 hours.
i'm not sure why people think this was so expensive - $25 is pretty standard i think for hookahs in the US. Â and yeah, i get that it's way cheaper on the other side of the world, but so are cigarettes, and those aren't imported. Â anyway, it's not like you smoke a hookah alone - you're splitting the cost between a few people. Â i'll get off my soap box now, but as someone who considers themselves pretty cheap in general, i wasn't appalled by the pricing.
the hosts were pretty attentive, though a little frazzled and disorganized at the start. Â i didn't notice anything wrong with the place but they kept going on about some explosion in their system and that their speakers were weird and the ambiance wouldn't get going till later. Â and then they were confused about what they had in stock and what they didn't - it was a very bizarre first 5 minutes, but when my friends and i settled in it was fine. Â the music was good and our coal got replaced frequently...an enjoyable experience, and i'd go back for sure.
Good - Flavors are plentiful and very good. Â Nice chill atmosphere. Â Good Staff
Bad- Pricey, no parking
A bit pricey (but no different than other Boston hookha bars), but all in all a good time. Â Very chill inside and very good flavors. Â All in all a great night.
I am not sure about the other comments about not being able to bring in alcohol but where can you do this? Â Some stupid kids trying to bring in booze probally got yelled at - good for the server. Â
I didn't notice anthing like a 36% tip in my bill? Â
All in all a good time and I will be back!
The good:
-Excellent ambience
-Delicious Moroccan mint tea
-Kickin' music
-The person working the night I was there (Ben) was particularly nice
-Clean restroom
The bad:
-FREAKING FREEZING
-The sheesha is overpriced (yes, I know I'm in America, but $25 for something that costs $3-5 in most of the world pisses me off)
Notable but neutral:
-They outsource their food menu from the Indian and Thai places next door.
