Great pit stop on the way to TC! Got a flight of beers and a pizza. Pizza was really good, not a big fan of the paper plates though. Beer was tasty and the staff was really nice. I liked this place a lot and would make the drive to go again. Short's Brewery has a good vibe to it, I like the school bus seats in the front and some of their bottle labels turned artwork.

I have been coming to Shorts for a while now but this past time really rang true to me. My family and I decided to go there on July 6th so the place was wall to wall packed. Luckily while standing in line for our beer order my wife was able to grab us the coveted seats at the bar.
Instead of ordering meals we decided to go the all appetizer route and we were not disappointed! I went for the Haze Daze because the smoke element to a beer intrigued me. My wife went Nicey Spicy (her favorite) We started with the Argus and it was as great as ever. Each time we get it they rotate one of the dips and this time the green tabbouleh type one was my favorite. As we devoured the pitas we did round two of the beers. I couldn't switch from the Haze Daze, the smokiness had me hooked. To compliment the beer I decided to go with the Mr. Smokey. The plate came out with a fantastic mix of cheeses, meats and veggies. Combining the double creme brie with the raisin jam was divine. The prosciutto and salami held up to my inner Italian but the cheeses too the prize. My wife decided to get the Fiesta and the mixture of the avocado, home made salsa and queso really take the chips and salsa idea to the next level. To bring it all together we had another round of beer and also ordered a bowl of the Spicy tomato Bisque.

This was out of this world delicious! From the fresh bread to the creaminess of the soup to the spicy back flavor finish. Seriously, this stuff I could bathe in.

What makes Short's so special is that it is a fully unique experience. The finely crafted beers are wonderful and exciting but the food is also able to compete with them.

You will not be disappointed coming here!!

Their food is always amazing and the Exactly Where I'm At appetizer is a can't miss.  The ever changing beer selection always amazes me.  It's always hard to choose which beer to try every time I go here.  The first come first serve seating arrangement can be a little frustrating at times, but it is always worth the wait.

Truely some excellent beers, great food, and amazing staff. I love coming here. Shorts is one of the best breweries in the US right now. I only wish you could get their beer in Chicago.

Don't forget to tip the musicians!

Fantastic selection of Short's beer on tap, but also the best spinach salad I've ever had (went well with Nicey Spicey). In a cute little town. Worth the trip from TC.

While up this way for a workshop we stopped here for dinner. My co-workers and I all had hearty, tasty sandwiches. Mine was the VooDoo Lady. A combination of pastrami, spinach, pepperjack cheese and spicy pilsner mustard. This was a great combination of flavors and the addition of kettle chips and a pickle made it complete for me. Great local atmosphere with beer, beer and more beer. Now that I am far away and back home again, I really regret not trying a strawberry shortcake brew. Maybe on our next trip up to Indian River my hubby and I will have to head west to Short's so I can stop thinking about what I missed.

If you find yourself within 20 miles of this place, make the trek and get here. The beer is great and the atmosphere is solid as well. The food is usually really good, too and they have some out-of-the-box specials every time you come in. They seem to sell out fast though, so you may want to try to hit it up for lunch instead of dinner.

They often have live music on the weekends, but my main complaint and the only reason I am docking this place one star is because they have no TVs. None. I get that they probably don't want to turn this place into a sports bar, but it always seems like I land here on a day when there's a "must see" sporting event on television. I would have spent hours here (and way more money) had they had a TV or two in the place to watch the game, but they don't. So...a few TVs around the place would bump this up to a perfect 5 stars.

As far as the food goes, I have yet to try anything I don't like. The sketches of winkle sandwich is my standby. It's definitely not "lighter fare," so be warned. We tried the pretzels and some sort of black bean dip as well. Both were great. The pretzels are standard, out-of-the-bag twists, so don't expect fresh, hot pretzels.

Anyway, I'll definitely be back, but I'm a huge proponent of them getting some TVs up in there. Highly doubt it will happen at this point though.

The selection of beer available is amazing. So many varieties on tap!! The food (we had a dip appetizer, sandwich, salad, and soup) was pretty good. The BBQ Chicken salad was actually delicious. The chicken in the soup was a little dry, which sounds strange, but it was. The sandwich was very tasty.

best beer in michigan! i've always been a hard liquor fan and never a beer's fan. This brewery had me converted. My favorite beer was the gingersnap and the AORTA ALE! LOVE IT! I wish they carried it out of state. I would recommend getting a sampler as they have about 20 different of their beers on tap. The only downside to this place is it's location. Basically located in the middle of nowhere :( but nonetheless best craft beer I've had my entire life.

Although a bit out of the way, it was definitely worth it to come here and sample some delicious food and beer.  They offered a great selection of draft and bottled beer.. -almost- too many to choose from :)

As for food, it was all very good.  The black bean dip and chips were surprisingly tasty to me, and was very creamy and had great flavor.  I also had their club sandwich, which was huge and had to be shared with my husband.  The sandwich itself was moist, full of flavor, and was served on toasted ciabatta bread - total yum!

The waitress was knowledgeable about all their beers, and helped us select several different bottles to take home and try.  Would definitely come back next time we vacation in the area!

Short's was the farthest north that we drove on our 10 day Midwest brewery tour.  The drive from Grand Rapids was long but the scenery was beautiful.   When we arrived we immediately ordered a flight.  The beer was great but standouts were The Gambler and Huma Lupa.  We ordered mac n' cheese for lunch and had some great conversation with the staff.  We told them we were from out of town and what we were doing in the area and they were all interested in hearing about where we had gone and they made suggestions on where we should stop on our way back down.  I hope to one day stop by again, if we ever find ourselves that far north again.

Love this place! Sucks that it's in the middle of absolutely nowhere, but it's worth the drive.

We came in this past Saturday night. Busy as all get out, and tables are at a premium. There is no wait list, it's fend for yourself, which we did. We nabbed some of the bus seats near the front once a family cleared out. They have a stage on the other side of the pub with more seating, but that's just as packed.

Gotta walk up and order your stuff, no wait staff either. I started the night off with a S'More Stout, which in theory sounds disgusting. Graham crackers in a beer? Yes it's not like they crumbled 'em up and dropped them in the glass but still. Turns out it was one of the best stouts I've ever had. And I usually hate stouts.

Wife ordered the reuben for dinner, I went with the chicken and black bean quesadilla. Both were amazing and really filling. My mouth's actually watering right now thinking of that quesadilla. I finished my dinner off with a Yer My Boy Blue (blueberry stout). Another great brew.

I've been to Short's in the past and it's always a good time. Just don't come here with a large group on a weekend evening and expect to find any seating.

I'm seriously considering asking the guys at Short's if they will cater my wedding next year.  My fiancee and I always make a point of stopping in whenever we are Up North.  The brewers are certainly a creative bunch: while we don't love every single beer on the menu, they've always got something new to try (I mean, you've got to at least try the beer brewed with pine needles, right?)

The staff for the most part is very friendly and attentive.  My dad had a bad experience there years ago (said he was essentially ignored on a slow Sunday afternoon), but I've always had pretty good luck.  They don't have waitresses - you either belly up to the bar and order directly from the bartender, or you wait in line and place your order at the counter and take it back to your table.  We always try to claim "our seats" at the bend in the bar, and know most of the staff by face, if not by name.  Most of the beers' names are very esoteric and/or based on inside jokes, so be sure to ask about the history of your brew.

Speaking of esoteric: all the food items are named after Ween lyrics/songs.  So you wouldn't know, for instance, that Sketches of Winkle is pretty much the best sandwich you're ever going to eat.  Read the descriptions to discover which sandwich is which, and then get the Sketches anyway.

Really, though, the draw is the beer.  They introduce new batches frequently, but also have staples in each beer category that, in my opinion, are some of the best I've ever had.  I'm an IPA guy, and Huma Lupa Licious beats even Bell's Two Hearted in my book (even though Two Hearted has a more interesting name back story in this case).  Careful of the Soft Parade: the girl on the label isn't taking a nap in that Mackinac adirondack chair - she's passed out, because the Soft Parade is something like 9% alcohol and tastes like fruit juice.

I didn't eat here, but the food looked really good.  They are located out of the way in a smaller town.  I really really loved the decor.  Old seats out of buses and other unmatched stuff is just what I love.  I always wonder about the places with granite everywhere and would rather that they focus on great food, great beer, great service and cheap prices.....but that is just me.

I hope I have the chance to get back to this place and eat!

There is not much about this place to dislike.  The staff seemed very friendly, I really like to artwork inside the building, some nice comfy chairs to relax in, and ofcourse the beer is incredible.  My only complaint is that the chalk board with the beer list and descriptions of them is almost impossible to read.

The food was pretty good, although I have to say the pizza crust is weak.  It tasted like frozen bought crust, which is too bad because the topping were really fresh and the pizza sauce was real good.

Great place to stop in a grab a few pints and a growler.  The town of Bellaire itself is really nice.

Fix the pizza dough and this place gets 5 stars all day.

I could not have asked for more from Short's. Seriously. I am counting the days until I can escape from work and take an Up North vacation.

Stopping here was the highlight of our trip! We saw a commercial for Bellaire and decided to check it out on a whim (while on vacation in Kalkaska). Let's just say, Short's is the only thing worth seeing in this town. And thank god that "Bloody Beer' sign captured my attention, or I would have forever been denied this gem!!!

As we were walking back to the car, a little disappointed that 1) this town was a lot smaller thant he TV commerical made it out to be 2)by 5pm when we got there, every single shop was closed for the day...when I saw a sign promising the most unique beer I'd ever tasted.

And it was. OMG! I'm a huge beer fan, so for me to find something I've never tasted before is a feat. The Bloody Beer was fermented with roma tomatoes, celery seed, dill and peppercorns (almost a bloody mary mixed w/beer). Amazing! If you are up for something that will blow your socks off, get this one!

And as a bonus, the service was OUTSTANDING. I'm a stickler for good/friendly service and the girl exceeded my expectations. She asked my name when I first went up to the bar- and get this- she actually remembered it every time I came up to get another beer. Plus, next round she had new suggestions I might like judging on my last round. This is the way service should be. I wish I remembered her name so I could give a bid giant thanks. Mr. Shorts, find out this girl with the black asymmetrical hair & give her a raise.

Good beer but poor, unfriendly staff. After eating dinner and having drinks for 6 people (not cheap) we decide to buy a growler to take with us ($12.95).

For some reason the waitress thought we were intending to drink it there, and I was summarily informed that (after paying for the growler) I couldn't buy it. WTF? We had no intention of drinking it there (as we had already bought two rounds anyway).

They wouldn't budge so I asked for my money back, which they provided. Never again!!

A well deserved 5 star experience.  Every one I have had has been.

We discovered shorts last year while on our yearly vacation to torch lake, and I'm so glad we did.  I think i thought more about going to shorts than i did hanging out on the water or back in the woods.

Fantastic beer.  twenty something homemade brews on tap.  six packs and growlers to go.  good prices.  Oh, and to die for sandwiches.  over the several visits we have gone we've tried 5 sandwiches and loved them all.  From meatloaf on ciabatta to a veg friendly mix on hearty oat bread.  I thought about their white pepper sandwich all year.  so this place will stick with you.  I cant think of a sandwich shop in Pittsburgh that can compare.  Its that good.  Every sandwich has a fantastic balance of ingredients...  for instance the oh my dear veg sandwich uses a radish sprout instead of an alfalfa or similar and it ads a nice pepper to balance the sweeter honey and oat flavors of the bread.  I had that sandwich grilled with no cheese and it really delivered.  I could have eaten two...  and regret not doing so. frown.

Hmm.  I still haven't gotten to the beer have I?  well it rocks.  I had a 15th anniversary, a brown ale, beach wheat, super hoppy IPA, and one more and I loved them.  super good flavors.  refreshing, unique subtle twists and additions to each to give a great character.

I'm really happy to see such a quality product, both restaurant and brewery, coming out of small town northern michigan.  go elk rapids and bellaire! and Go Shorts, i cant wait to come back next year!  and I am pleased to bring my patronage to Michigan to enjoy your beer.  I salute that you only distribute instate, its refreshing to see a company focus on quality at a manageable scale and not get blinded by getting bigger and bigger and bigger.

My uncle told me that the best sandwich he's ever had is at Short's. My grandma ate the rest of his leftover sandwich, and this incident was brought up several times throughout the weekend.

While I didn't have any sammiches, I did have some beer at Shorts. This badass bar is right on the 'main street' of Bellaire. It's chocked full of beer (no wine, sorry, you lushes!), and apparently some decent food selections.

My husband got a beer that had an aftertaste of pine needles, which he enjoyed very much. The atmosphere is cozy and cabin-esque (wood walls and floors), and it's a good place to stop for a drink.

Love this place!!  We've been here twice and both times I leave always wanting more.  It's not your typical restaurant - there aren't servers or hostesses, and you have to wait in a big-ass line (usually) to order beer and food.  You also have to fight other people to get a seat!  However, your hard work will be handsomely rewarded with fresh, yummy brews and amazing eats.

This past visit I got the strawberry shorts cake beer, and it was phenomenal.  It was light and refreshing, with a little strawberry taste to it, nothing overwhelming.  Almost everyone else got the same thing and we were all raving about it all night.  The pizza I had the first time was SO good, but I was a little disappointed in my sandwich this time (Sketches of Winkle I believe?  Something like that...).  It was good, just not exactly what I wanted.  The portions are large and the sandwiches come with fresh kettle chips that are perfectly crispy and salty.

They also have live music sometimes - the act they had on Saturday was so great!  It was a husband/wife duo from Rochester, MI - being from Royal Oak it was cool to see another local performing up in Bellaire.  They don't have cover but they have "Honor Cover" night so you just dump $2-$5 in the tip jar so that the acts can get paid.

A great place to go with a group!  Just remember to bring your patience and prepare to have an awesome time :)

I love Short's...love ordering beer flights, love the outside of the box bar food, love that I can take my kids.  I have been going to Bellaire for 40+ years and I have to say Short's has been one of the best additions to the town.  I am just a little bitter that they weren't there when I was in my twenties and the hottest ticket in town was Ruthies ;) (don't get me wrong, ice cream with eyes rocks but I would have rather had a cold Nicie Spicie)  p.s I have like 47 growler bottles in my garage if someone has some fabulous craft project they would like them for

"Life is Short's; drink it while you're here"

    I like that message, gang.

While on a roadtrip I was privy to the front seat talking about Short's.  The ongoing debate was about how great the sandwiches are at Short's: both parties agreed they were good, but one party suggested that part of that was due to how many pints are usually consumed alongside.  Noted.  I had to check this place out for myself.

Last week I found myself in Bellaire, and it was easy to pick where to head.  A pint of passion fruit beer and the Buckingham Green salad (chipotle chicken, bean-and-corn salsa, cilantro lime dressing) made for a great pairing on a sweltering summer night.  It was busy, but we never felt rushed from our table.

If it wasn't so hot I would have loved to have prioritized more eating (their apps - including a pint of pretzel rods with various mustards - looked delicious as passing by) but, as it was, I just wanted pints of, alternatingly, beer and water.

Yelp note: I love companies that are location-proud, and Short's is a great example of a place proud to be Northern Michigan owned-and-operated.  Short's calls their approach to brewing, learning, and creativity "beer liberation" and specifically aims to harness the "power of smallness" and not expand.  How how, and appreciative claps, Short's.

Short's is the source of some of my greatest ups, and greatest downs. Yet, the ups always outshine the downs, and crap, I really like beer.

If you've never had Short's beer, well, you're in for a lesson. This is some serious beer. It's deep, it's strong, it's unique, it's fruity, it's well, just about anything you could ever want in a frothy beverage.

The staples are always reliable and delicious, Huma-lupa-licious, The Magician, Bellaire Brown, Pendomonium Pale, etc. But if you've been lucky to try one of those across the state, then let yourself venture off into the Short's realm of funk, and find something extra weird. Key lime pie beer, or strawberry shortcake, maybe? You can't go wrong with anything you have, as Joe Short really know what he's doing here.

It's not a stretch for me to say that Short's is one of the best breweries in the country, and deserves a larger seat that the big-beer table than they have. But on the other hand, I really like it that way. Unpretentious, delicious, and small enough that it almost feels like my personal little secret speakeasy hidden away in the Antrim County woods.

As far as the pub, you'll forget that you're in Northern Michigan for some of your stay. This place draws beer enthusiasts from across the region and wider. Their nightly music performances are always different and like their beer, unique. Maybe an old beared man on a ukulele, or a 5-piece string band.

The food is also not to be pissed. Have an ice firey pizza, or a cleverly crafted sandwich to take your beer tastebuds to a whole new level.

Ever since I moved to DC, I have missed Short's dearly. Luckily for me, Bellaire and Short's can still be my home away from home, and will always be one of my first stops when I return to the area.

    Have a growler for me!

Well, we went here on a lazy Sunday afternoon, on what I knew would be the long way to Petoskey. Yeah, it was out the way, but we were looking to expand our Northern MI pallet.

It was early Fall, and apparently Bellaire had just got done with some local festival. If you frequent Northern MI towns in the Summer, then you know that you can hit some lame festival every weekend from late May to late October, if you were so inclined. And one usually looks very much like the rest.

The streets were pretty empty. I guess we just missed all the fun, and the entire town was dead. I was ready to leave 10 minutes after we got there, and the irony in that, is this is the only reason we tried Shorts. My g/f and I our fans of Micro breweries, and I basically said "Well, it's a bit early for a beer, but if you want to try this place, we should probably do it now, because I doubt we'll be back this way anytime soon."  We actually paced around the building a few times so I could finish my "morning" coffee while we made our decision to stop to grab a bite and a beer, or move on to Petoskey.. As a town, I felt Belarire defined tourist trap- very cute Michigan town without much to see or do.

Short's may have changed all that.

The first good sign was that it was only place showing signs of life in the area. It was actually kind of crowded during non-peak restaurant hours. We tried a a few beers--- and I mean the daring beers, like Right Brain, not the standard mico brew fare, and  Short's did not disappoint. The beers were good, and Mexican style chips and cheese dip were had were great.

The one beer that did stand out was Bloody Mary beer. Spicy, but with a smooth finish.

So much for being a tourist trap. Now that my g/f can't find this beer online, I know we'll end up going back.

I was pretty much in love with my cheese sandwich w/ avocado & tomato & chipolte sauce.  Yum.  Wish I had been in a beer mood, I hope I get a chance to return in the near future.  I bet it'd be a rad place to catch some music.  Ton's of seating, order at the bar.

*** If you don't like yuppies or hipster's steer clear, but it's actually a pretty family-friendly place, so don't hold back on that account.

Short's has to be my favorite microbrewery....ever. I recently moved to NYC and took 20 six-packs of Short's with me. I will be back to Michigan soon to replenish my stock!

Good food, innovative tasty beer, and friendly staff. The Short family is in there regularly conversing with customers, etc.

My only gripe is that their kitchen closes early. We were in there on a Thursday night at 10pm and the kitchen was already closed. We ended up having to go next door to Lulu's for some food!

It's funny how you can just not know about a place one day, and then have the time of your life the next because of where you happen to be staying. My husband and I are in Northern Michigan, and, as we're always on the hunt for a good local brewery or brewpub, we decided to investigate some in the area.

Admittedly, I'd never heard of Short's before this trip, but we saw some of their beer at Boyne Country Provision yesterday and we looked them up. As this restaurant/bar was just about 40 minutes from where we were staying, we decided to make a day trip out of going to Bellaire and enjoying some beer!

First off, let me say that I love the design of this place. There's brick, there's wood, there's exposed beams, there's burnt-orange metal ... they all come together in a really awesome way that just makes your eyes look around and take it all in. There are two separate rooms (one by the bar with high-tops and another on a slightly lower level with long wooden low tables), but they almost feel like one big space, because there are cutouts in the brick that allows the atmosphere to just meld into one.

The beer was fantastic, unusual, creative, and strong! Maybe it's because I'm not used to day drinking (amateur here), but I was buzzed after half a sample of the Mama's Strawberry Milk (which has got to be the craziest beer I've ever tasted!). We got a couple of samplers and tried a lot of stuff. The only thing I was disappointed about not being able to try was the Chocolate Wheat, but they were out. I enjoyed the ESB, the Bellaire Brown, "The Magician" (Dark Red London Ale) and the aforementioned Strawberry Milk the most. Surprisingly, I wasn't as big a fan of their wheat beer -- it was just missing something, though I'm not sure what.

Their food was different and eclectic. We shared the crostini with herbed goat cheese and sweet and spicy tomato jam; a soup which had andouille sausage, corn, and cheese (what could be bad?), and a 9" plain cheese pizza which was fine, but nothing to shout about. What was obviously the main draw of this brewery wasn't necessarily the food itself, but the way the menu was created and the ideas put forth.(I also like the way it has a certain "snack bar" feel to it, as you've got to order your food at the bar and then you're given a number and it's brought to your table.)

Overall, probably the best brewpub I've ever been to. Their beer selection was outlandish, and I mean that in the best possible way. They seem very experimental and funky, and I am totally cool with that.

We've been fans of Shorts ever since it opened seven years ago. Frequently, we park in Bellaire and do our 40 or so mile bicycle ride from there just so we can enjoy a post-ride pint or two, or pick up a growler. Shorts offerings are creative and the brewer is not afraid to experiment. But, the person who only drinks bland rice/corn beers (e.g. the national offerings heavily advertised) will still enjoy the "locals light". Our favorites are the chocolate wheat and humalupalicious (the latter being very floral and right up there with the Pacific NW beers I'm used to).  Seasonal offerings like the Saison (on tap now) are also great, as it the spruce pilsner. The Soft Parade is a bit too much like Kool Aid for me, but if you like fruit in your beer, you'll enjoy it.

Food is always pretty good and a couple cuts above the usual pub fare. And, the recent cut outs of the brick wall will help blend the upper and lower spaces together.

Out of the 10 Michigan breweries I've visited, Short's is tied for second with Dark Horse [and that's saying a lot]. Nestled in the quaint Bellaire, Short's is spacious, has a comfortable vibe, played a mix of indie music & was very inviting.

I've had all their bottled beers that are distributed in the SE part of the state, so my husband & I tried only things we'd never had before. I started out with the Chocolate Wheat which was a carmel-y porter - not spectacular, but solid. My husband started with the Anniversary Ale, made with blood organge and peppercorns and it was GOOD! For our second round he started with the Bananarama, which was dark, toasty & tasted like banana rum. I didn't really sip much of his, though, because I was too enamored with mine - the Key Lime Pie. I was pretty skeptical of this beer because I don't like very sweet beers, but WOW - full flavors of citrus and graham cracker, without being too sweet & nothing short of amazing. We picked up a growler of this for home.

Not only was the beer fantastic, but the food was great as well. We started out with the goat cheese bruchetta & it was incredible. We followed up with a pizza on special that had asparagus, feta and some other delicious items I no longer remember.

It was well worth the visit & we'll definitely find excuses to head up north & go back!

Definitely a place to visit. Always a wide selection of unique brews which is constantly evolving. My personal favorite is Soft Parade.

Has a "hipster" sort of vibe in it's decor and atmosphere.

The live entertainment is always unique and fun as well.

I don't know quite what  I expected.  But Short's exceeded, in every way.

I live in Ann Arbor, and frequent Arbor Brewing Company frequently.  I grew up in Royal Oak, so I'm familiar with the ROB, and the WAB.

Once a loyal Arbor Brewing Company gal... they do not hold a candle... not even a little votive candle to Short's.

I've gladly had me some Short's in a bottle, and was even lucky enough to drink a Soft Parade on draft at Ashley's in Ann Arbor.  Being in Southeastern Michigan, making the trek to Bellaire to drink some beers seemed a little unorthodox.

That was, until, my dad announced that he was having his wedding in Glen Arbor, MI. in May of 2011.  Was I excited to take the weekend off?  Yeah!  Was I excited to go to Lake Michigan?  Absolutely.  But to be honest, the first order of business was planning the trip up North, and how we could most strategically make it to Short's Brewing Company and still be to Glen Arbor in time for the wedding.

    :)

The drive from Ann Arbor to Bellaire was 4-ish hours... lots of construction.  Pulling into the back lot and turning the engine off was music to my ears, and as we exited the car, the manager on duty was right outside the door and said, "going to Short's?"... and showed us to the back door.  Awesome.

My fiance went straight to the bathroom and I entered the bar area, totally excited but trying to act like I didn't just drive 4 hours for a pint.  The bartender, Rhiannon, greeted me with a smile and asked me if I had been to Short's before.  Now, normally if someone asked me that, I'd think they had me pegged as a tourist and were incessantly judging me.  But this girl was genuine.  She showed me the menu, explained the process of ordering, and immediately made me feel at home.

We ordered my favorite, a Humalupalicious, and he got his pale ale.  We ordered food, my sandwich on Rhiannon's recommendation, which was really really yummy.

I decided to order a flight, because hell... why not.  I went up to order, and Rhiannon says, "Melanie, what can I get for you and Dan?"  Stunned that the bartender, who was taking care of a bar full of patrons just acknowledged my fiance and myself by name, I ordered, and promptly received my delicious drinks.

The beautiful day, accompanied by the delicious beer, accompanied by the impeccable service and hospitality of Rhiannon and the staff made our day unforgettable and incredibly special.  We added on a couple of Growlers of Huma and Pale Ale for my dad's wedding reception :)

Thank you SO MUCH for making our trip, day, and weekend special.  You guys rock, and kick the ass of your competitors downstate in both beer and service.  Team Short's :D

This place has some dang good beer and if you need to figure out what you may like they give samples. The decor here is all original and very open. People come here as if it was a town hall to celebrate birthdays, lunch or whatever. The food is simple, but has quality.

Everytime I am in the area I make it a stop, but I live downstate.

Amazing beer! Great Atmosphere! I could find a thousand more things to exclaim about this northern michigan gem. The beer is always rotating with new specialty batches on tap. If you are lucky enough to catch a musician there, it will make the experience even better.

I will continue to make the 1.5 hour journey out of my way to this great place and hope some day there is a campground or friend with a place near by so I can get just one more sampler.

I love everything about Short's. The food is great, the beer is great, the owner/brewer is great. The atmosphere is awesome and it's so fantastic that there's a performance space and Joe Short has such a dedication to live, local music. It just makes me so happy every time I see a young, driven entrepreneur doing everything right and succeeding in a place like Bellaire, MI. (It's beautiful up there, by the way.)

    SHORT'S IS THE BEST!

    I love Short's Brewing Company.

I love the beer (I am partial to the Bellaire Brown, but any of their chocolate porters or stouts are are fantastic). We started coming here at least a couple of times while on vacation (we are up here in July).

I am glad to see they are doing well and I have even seen their beer on the shelf at Glen's here in Bellaire.

Their food menu has evolved and improved over the years. I just finished the 'Someday' (a nicely done club on a ciabatta roll).

As good as always, almost forgot their Wifi is fast and free.

    Very nice and friendly microbrewery.

Excellent selection of nearly 18 beers on tap. I found it difficult to narrow them down for a beer sampler. The beers were very good. A few weren't my type but were still drinkable. The food we had was also very good and creative. I had the chicken pesto wrap. It was delicious and bursting with flavor. The place was pretty well filled for a Friday night as well. We still had great service and found ourselves a table quickly. There was some live music there as well which only added to the atmosphere. We will return!

Honestly the coolest place within 50 miles. The selection of beers here are phenomenal, always live music playing which makes this place high-up on the cool meter.

    Check this place out.

Short's is my favorite brewery ever.  Ever ever ever.

The beer is nothing short of fabulous.  Many styles from which to choose.  Some are downright strange, but in the most wonderful of ways.

The brewery itself is cozy, nicely divided into two rooms, the bigger room with performance space, tables, and chairs, and the smaller room with the bar and a few smaller tables and comfy chairs.

Short's is interesting people watching.  Lots of families that I imagine are from Oakland county, up visiting their lake house and wanting a beer.  Lots of younger hippie types.  Lots of older perhaps ex-hippie types.  Good gathering spot for lots of folks.  Good beer, frequently good music.  Always good atmosphere.

Big basket of peanuts and a big glass of Cuppa Joe Stout on the table in front of me, sitting in a comfy chair made from the seat of some long gone automobile and I'm a happy lady.

I love Shorts. Love as in, think about it often-wish I was closer-distance makes my palate grow fonder kind of love.

This coffee-house reminiscent brewery is tucked away towards the end of the quintessential main street in downtown Bellaire, a small town in northern Michigan. Surrounded by friendly people, mom and pop shops, this brewery shines.

The people that work here are always friendly and happy, offering their wealth of knowledge about the beer, the food, and the gorgeous surroundings (Torch Lake). The setting is casual - a bar to sit at, some random tables and a few old cadillac seats to cozy in to, with a music room to the left. They have live music most days, playing in the evening to get the crowd moving.

Now on to the beer, the most important part! With creative names, and hand drawn labels, this beer dances on your tongue. Each brew is as different as the next, some fruity, some smokey, some spicy, some full of hopes etc.... As mentioned by others, try a flight, you will learn that unexpected ingredients  and hard work make the best tasting beer. The names of the beers are as creative as the taste, and its always hard to choose which 5 should be chosen for your flight. My personal favorite is the Soft Parade - its fruity, its light, and described as "perfect for the ladies that like wine", but I have known a man or two to pony up to the Soft Parade. If you prefer a darker beer, Bellaire Brown is sure to please, or for something lighter the HumaLupaLiscious is really good. I have yet to try their fall beers, but I would imagine their pumpkin beer would be stellar.

Last time I was here, I was delighted to learn that Shorts will be bottling by the end of the summer - I can only hope it makes it to Chicago!
