For the price you pay i dont think the food was that great. I expect the food would be a little better than the typical steak restaurants. But i guess if you have no where to go and you are in the middle of the forest. You have no options. They do not know how to cook a steak. Remember medium-rare = medium, medium = well-done, and i don't even want to know what well done=????

The breakfast buffet has no selection or should i say limited selection. I am not from the area so I dont know if there are other places to eat. But if there are i would highly recommend going somewhere else. For the high quality and great service that tenaya loge provides, i just didn't think the restaurant was up to par with the hotel. They need to step up or get fresh menus, or a different cook or something.  Because the hotel felt like a high quality excellent service and you expect the same from the surroundings.  But i think the restaurant was not up to par.

Give it a try, the choices are limited but good, tomato soup with cheese sandwich. Not sure why someone said its pricey, 60$ for 2 people's dinner.

I enjoyed this place for breakfast and dinner.  The service was excellent. The people here are so friendly. They really give you the feeling they want you to enjoy your dining experience.

The food was all great; breakfast and dinner. Tried an appetizer; the tomato soup with the grilled cheese sandwich - was very good and reasonably priced. There are a number of items on the menu for the thrifty. But remember, this restaurant is in Tanaya Lodge so there are premiums.

The Schnitzel is awesome, I've had it in Germany and it was just as good. The steaks and seafood are pricey - bring your credit card.

Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal.

My husband and I had a romantic dinner here last night. We sat by the huge fire place  and had a wonderful evening.

    The food:
To start we had the ARTICHOKE HEARTS, very big serving, a table of 4 could eat these and incredibly yummy! We also had the FIRECRACKER SHRIMP, beautiful presentation, 6 shrimp, delicious sauce with tossed salad.
Then a CAESAR SALAD, typical and good. The FRENCH ONION SOUP was homemade, very cheesy and perfect for winter time in front of the fire.

For the main course was, ANGEL HAIR PASTA with sautéed tomatoes, garlic and olive oil with chicken. It was a little heavy but very good. The FILET MIGNON was decent, the garlic mashed potatoes were the best I've tasted but the mixed veggies were a bit on the raw side.
The CAPPUCCINO and MOCHA coffee drinks were both typically yummy.
For dessert the COOKIE PIZZA was amazing and highly recommended and the DARK CHOCOLATE POT DE CREME was also incredible.

    The service:
ANDREW was our server, he was polite, helpful, knowledgeable and professional. We can say the same of our busser CAMILLE. We were beyond happy with the service, the best service ever. Even ROBERT, the manager was kind and above helpful. He took the time to thank us for joining them and graciously invited us back to dine or stay with them again.

Over all outstanding customer service! Thank you staff at the Tenaya /Sierra Restaurant for a very lovely evening with my spouse:)

The Sierra Restaurant could make some easy wins by removing the amount of grease and butter by 80% and making their menu a bit less inspired by average. We went for breakfast and opted for the buffet.  We left full but disappointed. Unfortunately alternatives are few and far between. Maybe their room service is better?

For hotel restaurants-- this place does a pretty good job.  Atmosphere is cozy, and offers both inside and outside fireplaces (summer months allow for warm evenings outside).  The staff was friendly, even when busy. I really enjoyed the simple yet tasty menu.  My favorite aspect being that you can chose from several different burger medleys with different toppings, AND you can pick you patty (turkey, beef, vege).  I had two different type burgers both with turkey patty during our stay and loved both!  Delicious.  Beer and house wine ($8) aren't too expensive, but again- you are at a hotel so watch your bill. Sierra was also the site of our breakfast buffet daily, and this can get busy.. so arrive before you are starving or send a family member over early because there might be a wait. The buffet offers a variety of fresh fruit (papaya sometimes!), pancakes/french toast, scrambled eggs (plain and with ingredients), potatoes, bacon/sausage, pastry, meats/cheeses, and dry cereal/oatmeal. It is a large spread, and coffee/tea/toast are delivered to your table and are included.

Whether breakfast or dinner, I enjoyed our meals here.
Rustic, homey, and ready to fed you.

Pricey with only decent quality, great service. Go after 7.30p to avoid families. Fairly bright, & for a few bucks more you can get an intimate fine dining meal next door. Ubiquitous & titular "lodge" fare.  I would choose Embers, this was a bit like a circus.

Stopped in for dinner. The food is not that good, but there are relatively few options close to Tenaya lodge. Service level was below average, nothing noteworthy. If you find another option (non-Tenaya lodge), I would skip this restaurant.

We were staying at the Tenaya Lodge and thought we would try the in house options for breakfast instead of trying to find something in town.  We should have chose to go out.

The service was terrible.  There was a bit of a wait to get in, even in the morning.  And yet when we got inside, more than half the tables were empty.  People who came in after us got their food before us.

Prices were expensive for the quality you get.  I ordered a hot tea, and got luke-warm water.  I can't even remember how many times we had to try to flag down our waiter for even the simplest of condiments.  The experience was bad enough I cant even remember what anyone ordered.

    Not impressed.

Revolting food. And yet, overweight men in baseball caps keep piling it up at the buffet. We sent stuff back, and went back to the room to eat instant ramen noodles.

Almost identical food as Jackalope's since they share the same kitchen but 2x the price.  I had the special pork chop with a mushroom sauce.  not sure that I ordered it doused in salt but that's what I received.  A salted pork chop smothered in mushroom sauce that was more like a Salisbury steak.  Go to Jackalope's & skip Sierra.

I only had buffet breakfast at the restaurant and it was a good experience overall. We had coupons for the breakfast for 2 adults which is worth $14.95 each.  We saw a line at the counter and we provided our name for them to prepare the table and call our name when it is ready. I was worried that it will be a long wait but after 3 minutes, they called our name. The waiter is very friendly and they served us coffee and OJ. The buffet breakfast had a spread of pastries, cereal, fruits, scramble egg, potato and many other cooked meal. There is also someone who will prepare the omelet according to your selection which I find very neat.

[This is a follow-up review regarding the breakfast.  My previous review was on the dinner]

The breakfast here is much better than their dinner in my opinion.  Everyone in my family ordered the breakfast buffet which was reasonably priced at $14.95.  Not bad for a buffet.  Breakfast is wayyyy cheaper than their dinner, just FYI.

The buffet included the usual: OJ and coffee, omelet bar, fruits, pastries, oatmeal, cereal, pancakes, sausage, bacon, potatoes, and eggs.  I think things missing to make it a "complete" breakfast buffet are Belgian waffles (which are offered on the menu, but are not part of the buffet).  But as long as it has an omelet bar, then it is legit.

The waitress was extremely helpful and accommodating to us, which made waking up early less miserable.  She was prompt with clearing plates and offered to get us toast if we wanted it to go with our omelets.

There are a lot of flies that roam the restaurant, and I saw one on a pastry.  That made me a little weary of the pastries.

If you are eating breakfast here, I don't know why you would order something off the menu when you can get the buffet for just a few $s more.  Eat up here before you head out to the wilderness that is Yosemite... and maybe sneak a banana for the road.  hehe.
