It's not too difficult to make soup and sandwiches and yet the food is only mediocre at best. The squash soup is horrible, they've completely ruined the tiramisu by putting chocolate chips in it.
I come here for the live music jams and good beer selection. stay away from the food and don't expect a server to ever show up at your table.
    Free popcorn!
It's a fun place to meet friends and they have a good clientele- all age groups, lots of locals, genuinely nice folks and it's easy to chat with other people.
Terrific place to sit outside when the weather is nice. Great view of lake, but watch out for seagulls.

Pretty good sandwiches, and an astonishing amount of beer. Ordering your food is a little different than a regular restaurant; take a right when you walk in to get to the bar area, and then to the left is the sandwich bar where you place your order. The menu with the specialty sandwiches is written on the wall to the left of the sandwich bar and the make-your-own sandwich menu is listed on the wall behind the counter.

After ordering you are given a number, you take your seat, and then the food is brought out to you. Lots of interesting sandwich choices with fresh-baked bread and fresh ingredients. Full and half-size sandwiches are available too.

Daily soups include the English Onion soup which is really outstanding. The soup is probably what would keep me coming back more so than the sandwiches. Your meal comes with a pickle spear and a handful of chips on some wax paper served on a lunch tray. Very divey, but it is a pub after all and you are probably there for the beer and full bar.

They have homemade tiramisu on the menu so I had to try some. It is served in a small bowl, so the portion is more than adequate, and it is topped with tiny chocolate chips and dusted with cocoa powder. I try tiramisu where ever I can, and this just didn't do it for me. It tasted fresh, but there was only one tiny layer of ladyfingers, and I suspect because of that I didn't taste any espresso or liquor flavors. Pretty dense compared to some lighter tiramisu I have had, but it was decent for a pub restaurant.

Overall the service was very friendly and the beer menu is impressive. Prices are mediocre (in the $$ range if you order a sandwich and a drink from the bar), but the food is above average for a tavern. They offer live music fairly often, and they have a private parking lot and a wonderful view of the lake with their spot on Superior Street.

Went here on our way through town as we walked through downtown.  You walk up to a counter, tell them what you want and have a seat either inside or on the patio. The food was good with us having a bowl of soup and order of nachos. It's typical bar food and a nice setting.

Great beer selection and good sandwiches but a Brit pub without Brit pub food?  Disappointing as we had hoped for traditional pub fare given the large British flags and pub signs beckoning us in.  Great outdoor seating area though.

We live in the Twin Cities and always make a stop at Sir Ben's when we're in Duluth.  We were just there over Grandma's Marathon weekend.
The sandwiches are very good and the beer selection is even better.  The prices are OK, we had two sandwiches, two beers, and chips/salsa to share and it was around $35.
The thing that keeps us coming back is the vibe of the place.  It's a very casual, laid-back atmosphere.  You order your sandwich right there at the register, and the person who actually makes your sandwich takes your order. Kind of like a Subway with MUCH better ingredients and options.  The bar is right there too so you can take care of your drink order at the same time.
There's usually plenty of seating, it's never too loud or too quiet, the staff is extremely friendly, and there's plenty of parking.  We'll definitely be back!

This place is perfect. They have a wide selection when it comes to beer and food. Everything I've ever had there was great quality.

Plus, it's a great friendly place that doesn't have the feel of the typical chain restaurant or bar that you find pretty much everywhere. There's always something interesting music-wise and the rest of the time it's great to watch games or have conversation.

My favorite thing about this place is that it's NOT the typical loud crazy college kids' bar. A decent place to go have a fun time with friends, no more, no less.

We thought we would go into Duluth for a bite to eat and listen to some music.  I ordered the chicken chili and couldn't eat it due to the amount of cilantro in it.  My husband had a sandwich which was nothing special.  Neither the chips  nor the  salsa was homemade.  The beer was good.  The music was not relaxing or conducive to having while eating.  A disappointing evening.

Went for a beer and an appetizer.  Had the Taco Nachos which were ok.  Beers were overpriced.  Had decent music playing which they turned off so someone could pound on an out of tune piano.  Really wanted to like but it was just ok.  Try the Brewhouse at Fitgers if looking for good food and beer.

I had the $9 Taco Nachos and they were OK not great.  If I end up back there I'd try the pasta special if it's available.  Very hipster atmosphere and the beer is pricey too for the area.

Great sandwiches.... and great selection of beer choices.

I had the Tuna Melt on the multi-grain, it was delicious! My husband had the Cuban Pork Melt ... and he was happy as well.

Plenty of tables inside and several outside too; so it's a great place to grab a brew and chill outside to enjoy Duluth.

(I was also pleasantly surprised that they were on my Dining Rewards network... Yessss!)

Sir Ben's is one of my favorite places to go for lunch in Duluth.  The atmosphere is fun and they often have local music, and if you like beer they have a large selection.  I usually get a 1/2 sandwich, cup of soup and cream soda-- perfect to eat outside on a sunny day.

Sir Ben's happens to be the chosen place for  Duluth's monthly bike night, on the last Tuesday of each month. I meandered up there with a few friends to check it out last week.

I went with no expectations, other than good British beer. That was met - Boddington's on tap, though I only had one since I was riding. The space itself is a bit disorganized, but the chopped up rooms keep the noise down. Plenty of bearded hipsters at the bar, but then, it wouldn't be Duluth without a few.

I ordered up the meatball madness sandwich, expecting something, well, insane - either stupidly cheesy or drenched in sauce or straining to hold a few massive meatballs. As it were, the sandwich should be renamed 'slight meatball irresponsibility', as it was merely a few one-inch meatballs and sauce on a french roll. Without the pickle and the Boddington's it would rate a two.

I've heard good things about the soups. If I go again I'll eat elsewhere, and enjoy a warm cup of soup and a beer while taking in all the bike banter.

Delicious sandwiches!  An enormous beer selection.  Lovely al fresco dining options that make for great people watching and tanning opportunities.  I know there is live bands here all the time, but I've only been here around lunch time, so I've missed them every time.

Get a half sandwich and a coup of soup.  If you can, grab a beer too.  If the weather is nice enough, sit outside; they have a lovely view of Lake Superior.

Private parking lot, so there's no issue there.  At the time of this posting, it's a member of the Rewards Network Dining.

I love Sir Ben's. To be fair, part of that love has to do with all the good memories I have here. It was the first place I saw Charlie Parr play live, it was our regular sandwich shop when my husband was living in Duluth, and I had lots of fun nights out here back in my college days.
This is a great place to stop for a relaxing lunch. Sandwiches are fresh and soups are really good to. Also a fun place to go out at night as they have good local artists playing almost every night.

My first visit was 20 years ago for beers and was always impressed by the beer selection. Yes, you must order at the counter, if you pay attention upon entering, you will see these instructions....

Was recently in town on business, stopped for lunch. Had an excellent portebella melt on Rye....came with a pickle and chips on wax paper on a small tray - which is fine by me. The prices are reasonable, good food and beer selection.

If you are looking for a lah-tee-da place and romantic candlelight - look else where. This is a nice little place with it's own charm.

    -Good soups
    -Wide variety of sandwich fixings
-beers on tap and in bottles
    -View of Superior
    -Large dining area

I've been here a handful of times passing through Duluth on the way to/from cabin vacations.  I've only been here for lunch, however there appears to be a dinner menu with pasta entrees and appetizers.  I recommend giving Sir Benedict's a try, especially if you're trying to avoid the typical fast food or subway road-trip stop.  The 1/2 sandwich and cup of soup combo comes with a pickle and side of potato chips, more than enough for one person.

As the gales of November are now officially thrashing, I'm officially dreaming of places that you really can only visit in the summer. Sir Ben's definitely fits the bill here. They make a fairly average, overpriced sandwich and the drink selection isn't really all that. But hey, there's just something about sitting overlooking Lake Superior with both of them in hand. Only 121 more shopping days until Spring.

Sir Ben's is an order-at-the-counter pub, not a  full-service restaurant. Their nachos and English Onion soup are great and they have a good selection of tap beers - including some local brews. Go on Thursday evenings for Celtic music night.

It looks like such a cool, funky place we just had to stop by for lunch. Funky, yes. Very very funky. Smelling, that is. Upon entering, my wife would not let us stay for one more second and I totally agreed with her. It smelled like, rotting meat? I'm not exaggerating. Eat at your own risk unless they are under new management.

I wish I'd gone to the grocery store and spent the $15 on sandwich fixin's. We would have had two great sandwiches that way. As it is we had nothing special.

Went to this place on saturday.
    Very strange.
They have a menu board, and apparently no waitrons.
We sat there for 15 minutes while the bartender loafed and talked to two people. The cook was outside smoking, so we sat....and sat.
Pretty soon 10 people came in and walked to the order window. At that point, after looking around at the dirty, sticky tables, we figured out that it's a place where you are pretty much on your own.
    We left.
