Love the fact that you can dress up formal for a nice date on one side of the restaurant...
On the bar side, you can come in wearing casual wear, dress wear, shorts or simply flip flops, board shorts and a tan after a long day on the water!
Also love the fact that you can eat for $10 a plate to $30 a plate! They have everything in between...
Beer is cold  and fresh! (pricey). Lots of flat screens in the bar, with many different games playing. They are usually pretty cool about changing a channel on a TV you are looking, instead of needed to look across the room. Great place to be loud!
Great service and good food!
Review is for the bar food/drinks. I'd give the Dining Room Menu 4 Stars otherwise as I've always had excellent meals and wine when I visited. Came here with an old friend Thursday night and had a watermelon mojito. I love girly drinks so it was easy to drink. We also shared a few appetizers - Calamari, Salmon Sliders, Hot Wings & Shrimp Cocktail...Not bad, not bad for the sports bar I haven't been to in awhile! I prefer summertime though, when you can enjoy the views of the greenery and water fountain in the back.
Review Source:1st time here even though I have lived in Disco bay for 3 yrs. The name alone kept me from visiting the place, come on now you can come up with a better name. How about 1. Boulevard Bar & Grill, Â 2. Bayside Steakhouse & Bar, 3. Disco Bay Gastropub & Sports Bar.
OK so I finally tried the place w/ my buddy and YES!  I like it.  We sat in the bar on this night and ordered burgers, I have to say we both thought these were the best burgers we have had in a long time much better than "Boardwalk Grilll" The fries came with the burgers  and were hot and crispy. Thick bacon, a Giant onion ring and cheese dressed the namesake burger. Yummy.  The bar was lively and plenty of servers(dressed in all black) that were easy on the eyes and very eager to please. (Get your mind out of the gutter). I will return , maybe for the next Sharks game.
Hubby & I have been here a handful of times. He loves coming here on the weekend to watch sports, have lunch and hang out with Robert(bartender). We've been here for breakfast(weekends only) lunch & dinner on different occasions. Service has always been great. Robert is very attentive and pleasant ( cute too). The wait staff are very knowledgable if you have questions about the menu. We moved here about 2 years ago and we have made this place our regular spot.
Review Source:Never had a bad meal here. Â They have a nice dining room next to their sports bar. Â It's so nice to go to a place that has a sports bar where they don't blast your ears with noise. Â (Won't go to BJ's or Buffalo Wings again due to that.) Â Always have good service too. Â Surprised it's not more crowded.
Review Source:I'm so lucky to have a gourmet style restaurant less than a 5 minute walk from my home. The food is always spot on! If you're up for great food, outstanding drinks, sports bar, and a water view this spot for you. It's not for those in a hurry or short on cash. ;) (There's fine dining here too, but I have yet to try it out. It's just too much fun in the bar area!)
Review Source:One of my favorite places to eat. I like to eat in the dinnig room though. My boyfriend sometimes meet his friends on the sport bar side.
The food is very good, I love the seared ahi tuna served with risoto and the short rib. It melts in your mouth and the flavor is to die for. These 2 meals are our favorites but we sometimes have one of the specials. The last time we went it was scallops (huge scallops cooked perfectly) with a risoto. One time we had some seafood pasta dish which enormous prawns, fish etc...
I have never been disapointed going there.
The sportsbar side of the restraurant is nice. There are plenty of tv's to watch your favorite team on. I've been here about a dozen times. It's one of about 5 restaurants in Discovery Bay. The wait staff is very nice and attentive.
Previously I've had the Philly Cheesesteak and thought it was pretty good. I've also had the ahi tuna it was good too. A few nights ago, by boyfriend had the ribs and they were very dry. They are beef ribs. I had the pulled pork sandwich. It too, was very dry. I couldn't eat more than 2 bites. The french fries were crispy as if they had been sitting under the warmer for awhile. The apple coleslaw was very good. We wonder if the cooks have changed? We didn't ask.
We found this place after searching for a new spot to eat a nice sit down meal.
As we were walking up to the entrance, two older women were walking out. One, was clearly inebriated. The other (the sober one), stated that her companion (the drunk one) was her mother. Good family fun? Yeah, buddy.
Upon entering the restaurant, you have the sports bar to the right and the dining area to the left. After being greeted by the hostess we asked to be seated in the dining area.
From what I could see, the sports bar is all that a sports bar should be. Multiple flat screened televisions. Sports themed decor. Â
The dining room was nice. We sat next to the fireplace. Views of the lake and golf course can be seen during the daytime.
We both ordered the gnocchi. Gnocchi came with steak and mushrooms. I thoroughly enjoyed the steak and mushrooms. The gnocchi was average.
This place was completely acceptable for what it was... a new place to try.
Service was quick and friendly.
I don't think I would eat dinner here again. Next time, I might just stick with apps and beers from the sports bar... or lunch on the patio.
They currently have a good special going on 5-7PM. Without the special, it's slightly overpriced considering the portion sizes. Atmosphere was good. At nights with major sports events, it can get loud-but hey, it is a sport bar! The food was great! Prime rib and Salmon (fresh) were cooked well. Waiters were responsive.
Review Source:Let me preface this review by saying that I have been coming to this place for years with very little complaint. Â Normally, the food is good and the service is decent.
Yesterday afternoon, I was in the Steakhouse with family for an early dinner. Â I ordered the Texas BBQ Burger (medium) and ate it without problem. Â Later in the evening, I discovered that I had gotten what appeared to be food poisoning and everything that comes along with that. Â Needless to say, it was a long, sleepless evening.
This morning I awoke and was still suffering from that burger. Â I have been fairly lucky in not ever gotten a serious case of food poisoning, but this lasted all day. Â
When I was feeling better, I called the Steakhouse to report the bad burger. Â I was calling not to complain, but to give the management a "heads up" so that no one else would get sick. Â When I spoke with the unnamed hostess and asked her to speak with a manager, she put me on hold and then let me speak with what sounded like a teenage boy who identified himself as "Robert". Â
I explained the situation to "Robert" and instead of just apologizing and letting me know that he would be on the look out for the bad beef, he told me that he had eaten a burger during the day as well and nothing was wrong with it. Â When I asked "Robert" again if he was the manager, he told me that he was not and that the manager had gone home. Â Weird, I've never been to a restaurant with no management.
Anyways, will I revisit the Steakhouse in the future, probably. Â But will it be my first choice or will I ever volunteer it, NOPE!!!
Located at the entrance to Disco Bay, Sports Bar & Steakhouse is a welcome stop for a martini & dinner after a long day of boating. The space is divided into several options:
- The sports bar (loud & lots of TVs)
- The dining room
- Outdoor tables
The menu is pretty elaborate, and covers all the basics. None of the items are particularly good - but there's not a lot of competition in the area! The best deal is to jump on the $19.99 price fix menu which will give you a salad, an entree & a glass of house wine. Otherwise, it's just too expensive for such low quality.
Fried Asparagus: The best thing on the menu. Be forewarned though, the tough ends are still on there.
Salad: Overdressed
Pizza of the Day: Crust = way too doughy & floured
Short ribs - pretty good, although they were cold, as were the potatoes
Salmon - good
It's pretty pricey, and the food is just so/so. But it's still a place to go where you don't need to cook! Definitely worth the $20 price fix though.
I'm a Weekend Part-Timer in DB and as such, have little time for cooking and cleaning. I'd rather be boating anyways. This place is my favorite choice in the area. Always good food, the service is tough on the weekends. Like me, half the people are only there Friday-Sunday. But, if you like good Steak and aren't fooled into thinking you're in SF, then you'll be happy with the Sports Bar.
Review Source:Talk about a down hill slide, when the first opened their food was top notch, one of the best burgers I had ever had, great prime rib, the sides were amazing. Even the bar menu was great. The service was great but it was always a little pricey... After loosing their head chef not long after opening the food went to ok to just down right bad and unacceptable at their prices. Drinks are pricey, its loud and hard to navigate when its at all busy. Its a good thing they have the captive audience of Discovery Bay.
Review Source:There are things I like about SB&SH and things I don't. On the good side - the creamed spinach is out of this world, and their prime rib is very good, and their pizza is good, and they pour a generous glass of wine. The place is always very clean, and the restrooms are clean and state of the art. On the negative side, they never change the menu, which discourages us from going back on a regular basis. The service is very inconsistent - a lot of turnover, and I agree with others comments about there being a completely different level of service for regulars versus mere mortals. I can appreciate that, but it would encourage others to become regulars if they got some preferential treatment too. Or at least weren't left sitting waiting to order while the staff kibutzes with their buddies.
Most of the clients look like rejects from one of the "real housewives" series - too much bad plastic surgery and shopping at "forever 21" , when they'd be lucky to pass for "forever 51", and showing too much skin. Pretty scary, but the restaurant can't control that.
I live in Disco Bay and have eaten here a few times. Â
The food: My husband and I both feel it's very good. Â Some of it is incredibly pricy for what you get. Â Some of it isn't. Â Can't figure that one out. Â He alwasy orders the prime rib sandwich. Â It has a lot of meat for what it costs (in the neighborhood of $10-$12). Â I ususally order a salad. Â My fav is the hanger steak, although the salmon one is really good too. Â They are decent in price as well considering what you get. Â I guess if you know what to order it's all good. Â Where it gets mega expensive is when you order a lot of drinks. Â Beer prices are OK, cocktails are pricy.
The Atmosphere: Â Here's why I gave this restaurant 3 stars and not 4. Â The staff is lame. Â They obviously have their favorite "regular customers" that they pay tons more attention to. Â They also sit and socailize with them while you're waiting for your drinks and food. Â The "regulars" who hand out feel they own the place. Â As a non regular, you can feel sorta awkward. Â The crowd seems to be a lot of older people going through mid-life crisises and their cougar wives or girlfirends (stole that from a review below but it's VERY accurate). Â
It's the best spot in Discovery Bay. Â Easily.
Wow, I'm surprised at all the negative reviews here. Are we reviewing the same place?
My SO lives in Discovery Bay and one Friday night we decided to have dinner here. He always mentions this place whenever we brainstorm over where to have dinner, but I wasn't craving steak until several weeks ago. He had eaten here several times before, including bringing his family here over the holidays when they visited DB a month ago and they raved about everything (escargots, squab), so I was hopeful.
My meal here lived up to my expectations. I ordered the smallest prime rib they offered on the menu, and he ordered the rib eye. My prime rib was bloodier than I would've liked (I ordered medium-rare but I guess they only picked up on the "rare" part of it) but it was tender and the skin was flavorful. Lot of fat though - I spent most of the meal performing surgery on my piece of meat and pushing the fat into the corner of my plate. Overall, I prefer Kincaid's prime rib over this one, although it wasn't bad. My entree came with a side of creamed spinach which was pretty good, a tad too creamy though. The potatoes au gratin were very tasty.
My SO's rib eye was equally delicious and came with a mushroom sauce, a side green salad and mashed potatoes. He preferred potatoes au gratin and our server very graciously brought over a platter for free. The side salad had a wonderful vinagrette type dressing, chunks of blue cheese and candied walnuts that was fantastic. Service was decent, although our waitress seemed a bit snooty. When we walked in the kitchen staff said hi, which was surprising because we didn't expect them to be so friendly.
Overall I enjoyed my meal here and would come back again. We left with tons of leftovers so in my opinion the price isn't so bad. Â It seems like most people come here to have a drink and catch the game at the bar, and the parking lot is always full of enormous trucks and gas guzzling SUV's - I guess that's Disco Bay for you.
It looks like a medium high end restaurant you'd find somewhere like monterey or santa monica. But it doesn't follow through in its menu. I've eaten in both the sports bar area and the more formal restaurant.
The sports bar area is pretty good but expensive.
The restaurant is very overpriced for the quality. The food is bland, overcooked and trying to be something its not.
On the plus side, it is the best restaurant in Discovery Bay...a small town with no decent restaurants.
This is the only good place around Discovery Bay. Â Expensive though and the service is fair most of the time. Â After about 15 visits (if you can hang that long), you'll get known by some of the staff and you'll get better service and better drinks. (Don't forget to tip big.) Â I think the owners should read a Tom Peter's book on good service. Â They will need to if another resurant moves in the neighborhood.
Review Source:If I could give this less then 1 star I would. Â
I went there once when they first opened and had one of the worst experiences ever. Â The food was just ok but not worth the money. Â The waiter was soooo incredibly rude it was just uncomfortable.
I said we would never go back due to the over priced food and the horrible service we received. Â However I just recently made our way back over there thinking they may have worked out the kinks.
I guess I was wrong!! Â We sat in the bar area this time. Â We asked the server what the happy hour specials were as far as food and drinks. Â He couldn't tell us anything about it just mumbled something about we don't serve dinner specials until 5 but I can find out for you, huh??? Â
We finally ordered both meals came out wrong and this was waiting almost 40 minutes to get our food. Â How hard is it to make a salad and cook a hamburger? Â When our food finally came out for the second time I was less then impressed yet again. Â However this time the food was down right disgusting. Â I would have rather gone to orwoods and paid a third of the price for a meal that was ten times better.
Oh and to set it all off the entire time that we were there we were swarmed with flies and were constantly shooing them away from us.  As well as everyone around us.  So that was  lovely touch to our fine meal.
Definitely will never go back again and will never recommend this place to anyone that is unless they are an enemy.
How can I say this without offending?
This is a great place to go watch yo'self some men with mullets and women in too tight tops (and not in a good way). Â
When we first moved to Antioch we asked around about where we could go to have a decent drink and watch some games. Â This place was recommended again and again... I just didn't get it at first (because it's really not that great) but then I realized that it all makes sense. Â We're white, Discovery Bay is white, everyone at this bar was white, and they were all having bad drinks and watching games. Â I seriously felt ethnic just because I'm from Richmond. (Holla!)
I think from now on we'll skip the drive and just head over to Schooners. Â The drinks are better, food is better, and the atmosphere is better, too.
Great place to grab a beer, watch a game, and people watch. Unfortunately each time I go the food just keeps getting worse and worse. It's an expensive meal and it just isn't worth $35-$40 for a chewy slab of overcooked meat. Stick to the bar menu if you get the munchies while having a few drinks there. It's mediocre at best, but sometimes you just get hungry after a couple beers.
Review Source:I gave it 3 stars because it is we do not have much in Discovery Bay, however this place is barely worth a fraction of what you pay. Â In the beginning the food was pretty darn good and the service was fine, not as good as most high end steakhouses, but fine. Â In the more recent months I am many friends and neighbors have experienced horrible service, ie, no server, slow service, no utensils, cold food and a heck of allot of we are out of that and "no".
What is sad is many will continue to go, as I have, because we have so little. Â A shame the owners will not do better.
There is just something I don't like about a waitress and Manager that keep saying no, and "I'll check with your server about that". Top it off with a soggy Bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato sandwich. The garlic fries were cold. Hmm I see a theme here. Yes the Plasma tv screens all over are great and the beers are plentiful and cold. Just skip ordering any food.
Review Source:This was my 4th visit to this place and for the price I never was impressed at all. Â And although the the place looks incredible and you can watch any sport that may be on at the time your there well the food pretty much sucks. Â The Seafood Fettuccine was the worst I ever had. Â It literally smelled up the place. Â And I was starving so I ate the noodles. Â I think the smell came from the cocktail size shrimp. Â I had a couple pieces of the white type fish and I'm being honest when I say I don't know if I'm not going to puke. Â I ran into some friends and one of them went on and on how bad his food was. Â
Believe me I would love to give the restaurant a great review especially since that would mean I enjoyed the food. Â But I don't really believe anyone enjoys the food there at this point. Â It's just sort of a cool place to hang out because of the modern design. Â
Let's see $19.00 to get sick. Â I'm pretty easy going and I not too pushy so I didn't want to make a fuss. Â Bryanna the server facial expressions let me know that she knew something was wrong. Â Another waitress had walked by the table and pinched her nose as she walked by. Â Confirmation it seems! Â
In summary I wouldn't recommend the food to anyone who's concerned about not getting sick. Â But if you want to have a few drinks in a great looking sports bar then this is the place. Â
If your wondering, I did tip.  The waitress can't help the fact that  the owners could cares less about their business.  And I wouldn't mind paying the $19.00 / total bill of $30.31 for 1 person.  But come on if your going to try to pass the place off as a classy place with higher than average prices and you can't hack it, then don't serve rotten food!  Raise the prices.  Maybe someone will live and come back. Â
The other dishes I had: Â 1st visit a few months after the opening...I had the Onion Soup. Â ok. Â A little spicy but a real nice square bowl. Â Seriously it was interesting. Â 2nd visit...I had a cobb salad. Â I forget the name but I remember it was a cobb salad. Â It was ok and just ok. Â It only had a few slices of egg and no olives or tomatoes. Â But the lettuce was great. Â 3rd time I had french fries. Â I wanted to take my sister and her boyfriend some where nice and this restaurant came to mind. Â My sister did like the ribs. Â
Have you heard enough!? Â I think taking a few bites of the new million dollar bond supported lawn at the entry to Discovery Bay might have been a bit less devastating and well worth the expense. Â
Peace
I
a little expensive, but the food is good. I really like their bar menu and the fact that they have so many beers on tap even though i only drink coors light. they go through employees kind of quick, but there is only one server i'd miss if he left anyway. there are plasma tv's everywhere and it's usually crowded on game days and weekends. i don't have anything bad to say about the sportsbar except it closes too early on weekends. the bar should be open until 2 like everywhere else. but you too could have this much fun....
<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fi5.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy152%2Fbabydawljennie%2Fdrunkenweekend1.jpg&s=6b7ada22e881d51291d18340f76db506664310e99e6a6430f103ee7f2f075e43" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://i5.photobucket.co…</a>
My hubby and I love eating at this place. Â The owners and the staff are great, especially the chef(s)! Â (Oh, we did have one bad experience from a young, male waiter. Â He must have been new because he kept forgetting our drinks like 3-4 times. Â We had to tell another waiter to remind him, but she ended up getting it for us.) Everyone else, however, were on-point!
Our favorite appetizers in the bar area are the deep fried asparagus with parmesan cheese and Ahi tuna with noodles and seaweed. Â YUM-O!!! Â We've also tried the buffalo wings, but they were too salty (maybe because we're used to low sodium salt). Â We've also eaten in the dining area. Â The decorum was nice and romantic and the food was delicious, including the dessert. Â This is a great place to chill, eat great food, watch TV from their many plasma screens and then walk outside, along the water.
This is a great place for sports fans! Â 17 plasma screen tv's strategically placed in the bar area. Â Yikes! Â 20 beers on tap, specialty drinks, a bar menu.... Â The restaurant thankfully lacks the massive bombardment of plasma!! Â I would not mind watching a Giants game in this bar - no way anyones head would be in the way ;)
Fresh and made from scratch are proudly boasted statements here and from what i saw and heard, seem to be true. Â A bit pricey but worth it. Â I especially liked the baby spinach salad, the salmon filet and the sirloin burger. (Not all together ;)
