Came here for the first time to work yesterday. I absolutely love this place. Being originally from Pittsburg it is exciting to see an establishment such as this in the community. I was able to come here, work, meet with a client all while getting my lavender coffee fix! Plus they gave me a free cookie! Anytime I am in the area I will work from this coffee shop!
Review Source:Coffee. Coffee. Coffee! Yum. I was looking for a coffee shop near home to get some work done and could only think of Starbucks. Yuck. But after a quick Yelp search I found this hidden Pittsburg gem! This place is amazing. The coffee is tasty and clearly high quality. The shop is comfortable, has good seating, lighting and internet access equipped with plugs to charge up your electronics. They even have small art displays, which I love! Additionally, they are a green location, as you can opt in to having your receipts sent via text or email. The staff is also educated on their products and they are helpful and friendly. One staff member mentioned that they receive training by Blue Bottle Coffee, at delicious coffee company that is mostly in SF and NYC. This place is really stellar, I almost thought I was back in NYC.
Review Source:the is simply THE best coffee shop ever! The owner and staff are amazing and talented. I order black coffees and I feel like it ruined me for all other coffees because its so great that all other coffees (Starbucks, Peets) taste like crap. I also enjoy lattes, but i don't like milk and I dont drink soy. this is the only place i've been with Almond Milk. now I can have dark chocolate almond milk mochas! I'm in love. its also a great place to study. I bring my lap top and do homework there all the time. Come here and enjoy some great coffee!
Review Source:The regular coffee here is really good. It's french pressed and has a great taste. I can't say much for the espresso drinks, because I've never had them. It's hard to find coffee shops in this area that aren't some part of a corporate chain, so I definitely enjoy coming here and supporting the local business. Service is quick and helpful if you don't know what to order. Plenty of outlets to go around if you're going there with a laptop to study.
Review Source:Hip little coffee shop. Â I stopped here once after finding it on Yelp because I didn't know my way around Pittsburg. Â I travel for work and keep finding myself in here when I am in town and need to regroup for work or wifi, nice people, nice coffee, different seating options and some tasty bites. Â Pretty quiet during the weekdays. Â If I lived here, it would be the place to meet a friend.
Review Source:Amazing coffee, prices are a little steep if you're used to Starbucks or Peet's, but the product is much better. I make a point of coming here two or three times a weekend, coming from Clayton to get the Frozen Honey Badger Latte. If you can get there early enough I would recommend the Breakfast Panini - Awesome! The employees are coffee aficionados and will be delighted to explain their menu and answer any questions you have about coffee.
Note: Don't ask for a caramel macchiato unless you want a thimble of espresso with a drop of caramel in it.
The coolest coffee shop in town! Â Great bold coffee, tasty nibbles, and throw in a little entertainment for good measure. Â Staff is super friendly and you can save a tree and get your receipt sent to you via email. Â Another fabulous plus from Steeltown is their liquid sweeteners. Â Choices of Sugar in the Raw, Agave, and Splenda all in a simple syrup to rid you of those pesky "packets".
Review Source:Can't say anything that hasn't been said by other reviews. Â This place is amazing, run by amazing people, and amazing coffee. Â Oh, did I mention how amazing it is? Â If you like the coffee shop vibe but don't want to go to a chain, this is the place to go. Â My wife works in downtown Pittsburg and is always telling me how she is getting coffee here on breaks and I kind of hate her for it. Â So freakin' jealous. Â When is the Pleasanton location opening?
Review Source:What an experience! I came in with my mom after an afternoon on a lunch cruise and needed to use the restroom before ordering. I have never been in here before, but had heard good things. We were not greeted by the guy working behind the counter, although there were only two other customers in the building and they had their coffee already.
Anyhow, I walked past him to the restroom with a sense of urgency and purpose. I w not informed that we needed a key to get into the restroom, so I immediately went to ask about it. This is when the experience got bad. The hipster looking kid behind the counter explained that he could not give the key to non-paying customers. This is understandable, however, he did not need to be a jackass about it. I told him that I didn't know what I wanted but not to worry, I was going to pay. With cash. He hesitated and after my mom teased him about needing my entire purse and social he gave me the key.
I came back out and placed my order. A large frozen mocha. My mom had an iced mocha. Talk about DISGUSTING! They brought some kind of "mocha powder" and made the mochas using this. Have they never heard of chocolate sauce?? This powder did not blend with the ice and instead clumped up into lumps. Worst coffee of my life, and I drink a TON of coffee.
This place is cute, but a wreck with employees like the guy working at 2:30, Sunday, August 19th. He is rude, doesn't know how to make even a drinkable cup of coffee and didn't even try to accommodate us. We each threw our coffee out with more than half of each cup remaining. I guess the $8 we paid was for our two bathroom trips. I should've popped a squat on their floor for free.
I love that Pittsburg has this cool and cute little cafe. The atmosphere is quite inviting and the baristas are quite friendly. Â I am not a coffee drinker so I went with their frozen hot chocolate. It was the perfect drink for a ridiculously hot East Bay summer! Â I can't wait to go back when it becomes colder. Their spicy hot chocolate piqued my interest!
Review Source:I used to really like this place and I went at least every other week or so with my mom. The coffee was always good, loved the quiche and pastries and the service was excellent. It was a little bit of an upscale coffee shop then with art and nice places to sit and have a chat over your coffee.
I moved out of the area a couple years ago and stopped going on a regular basis so I was excited to come visit last Friday and get my usual almond latte. I was sorely disappointed on this trip though. The latte was nowhere near as good as it had been (I think they used almond milk instead of syrup even though I specified syrup) and the service was very bad. The hipster guy at the register was downright rude when my mom's friend didn't know what she wanted right away. He then took forever to make her drink so a young girl came out to help. She was even worse. She had a very snotty attitude and made rude comments with any question we asked her. She didn't even acknowledge me when I thanked her after picking up our drinks.
Given this experience I probably wouldn't go back on my own. I have very little patience for rude employees who are more concerned with looking cool and playing on their iPads than being polite to customers.
Thank you Steeltown Coffee & Tea for being in downtown Pittsburg and so being there to give me a much needed stress break from my intense day today. Â I stopped in to grab a quick latte and found that not only do you have ALMOND MILK which is a HUGE YES YES YES in my book, but also VERY different FLAVORS than I have seen anywhere else! I mean LAVENDER latte??? Â OMG, I had to try it! Â
It was by far the most DELISH latte I have ever had since being lactose free. Â
You made my mind tell me...."ahhhh, what a nice place, let's sit down a while and take a break from this hectic day". So I did, even tho I had to be at my next appointment, even tho I was completely stressed, I sat and enjoyed the entire lavender latte with almond milk, right down to the last drop, and RELAXED.
I was so happy with my experience that I walked back up to the counter, waited for the nice barista to have a second to look up, and then told her "Thank you". Â
I will definitely be back soon.
PS. Can you possibly offer gluten free alternatives to your panini's? They look really wonderful but I can't eat them....maybe a corn tortilla wrap or something? Â Really would luv it if you did. Â Cheers!
Steeltown Coffee & Tea has to be one of the coolest coffee shops in the East Bay. Â It shares the lobby of a bank, passes for an art gallery and serves pretty darn good tasting drinks. Â Â This is a be / do anything whenever you want kind of place as long as you are having fun. Â Highly recommended.
Review Source:I went here w/ some friends and used the WiFI.. the connection is really strong.. We were kinda loud b/c we were listening to music and talking.
It was nice b/c the staff is cool weren't sushed  or anything but then again this wasn't the Library.
The coffee and Pastry's are good as usual along with the cool staff
.
This is a perfect addition to the 'new' downtown area, there are few Coffee Houses around this area and this one is not only here...but they do it right! Open mic, friendly staff, and unique in it's own way. The menu is great. Atmosphere is on point, and the seating is so cute. Â My mocha was delicious! And they had no problem with my creative order :)
Review Source:I found myself with a little extra time between meetings and thanks to my handy dandy yelp app, found this spot for caffeine and wifi. Â I am really enjoying watching the downtown Pittsburg redevelopment and this coffee shop is a wonderful addition.
The staff are very nice and the guy quickly made up a delicious chai tea latte with soy milk while the woman gave me a password for the free wifi. Â My chai tea latte was perfect and I had to exhibit some self control to not down it all at once. Â It was creamy with the perfect amount of spice. Â Next time, if I need the extra energy boost, I plan to try the High Chai. Â Chai with a shot of espresso. Whoa.
The space is huge, partly due to the fact that it is shared with a bank but it still maintains a warm feel with dark wood and walls to portion off the space. Â I found myself a corner, put in my earbuds, and was able to check some things of my to do list. Â
Free street parking. Â Food (pastries, paninis, desserts) also available.
Needing to meet a client in Pittsburgh, Steeltown came up high on my search (after discovering the only Peet's was at the BART station). Â What a fortuitous discovery!
Steeltown shares space on the corner of Railroad Ave and 7th with Mechanics Bank. The wall of windows, two stories high, fills the place with natural light which is all too rare in a coffee house. Â If you are seeking a darker nook, the west wall provides it. Â They have tables and several sets of cozy leather chairs for seating. Â
Because it is such an open space, the acoustics are far better than in most coffee shops. Oh the music was just perfect, upbeat and modern. Â It is one of the best places I have been for conversation. Â
The menu features all the standard hits. Â I was pleasantly surprised when my delectable mint-blend, loose tea was served in an infuser mug ~ Â a nice departure from tea bags. Â
They offer a frequent buyer program, and here's the best part: no card to lug around in your wallet or misplace! Â Just give your name, and they keep track of it in the computer. Â Gotta love that modern technology.
The staff was wonderful. Â Steeltown is definitely worth visiting when you are in the area.
I come here at least three times a week since it's only a five minute walk away from home. It's a nice little place do some reading and work while cozied up with an espresso in the comfortable, black leather chairs.
Always great service. The staff is very friendly. There is a perfect amount of sunlight coming in.
They have also been playing the World Cup games which is huge plus when you're trying to get away from distractions...
1/3/11 Update:
Steeltown continues to amaze me with every visit. I love being there. I love the atmosphere. I love the people. i love the drinks, whether I'm having my usual espresso or ordering something new like Brazilian Black Tea. I just love it!
This is the kind of arty, spacious and seriously good coffee place you would expect to find in a college town or somewhere like Portland. Â In downtown Pittsburg! Â
The coffee is strong and tasty, like the kind I would drink in college in order to stay up all night studying interspersed with a five mile run. Â The furniture is very metallic hip, the music is engaging without being intrusive, and I felt good just being there. Â The free WiFi makes it a good place to study or just hang out. Â
I used to go into Berkeley or SF for a cool and sometimes studious coffeeshop experience, but now I"ve got a place in my own backyard. Â Pittsburg has come a long way from the days where we were overjoyed that we were getting a Taco Bell that was open til' midnight. Â
Keep it caffeinated.
Can you say Coffee Nazis' . This place takes their coffee way too serious. First time going and last time going. It's one thing to be a coffee advocate but coffee snob. No Thank You!
I'm all down with supporting local, as this place boast about (getting their beans, coffee cups and any other thing from local farmers), but don't shove it down my face and make me feel bad for enjoying a Starbucks.
If your down with coffee snobs, this is the place for you.
A nice Coffee + Tea spot in Old Town Pittsburg?! YES!
They feature local artist and local musicians? YES!
Customer Service is AWESOME + drinks are BOMB? YES!
You HAVE to check this place out. Great environment to just chill and enjoy your tea and coffee. There's a little place to lounge and read a book or browse on your iPhone [i saw various people doing this. :)]. Â There are little tables to seat one or two. There's also a big table for groups, which can also be reserved for meetings/etc. for FREE!
I've only been able to find one other coffee shop that can make my Soy Chai Latte correcly and Steeltown's version is so Yummy! My bf got a High Chai: a combo of coffee and chai. He liked it a lot.
We'll def be back to check out some of the live performances. See you soon Steeltown! :)
It is a great place to go and do business with my Real Estate clients. It is nice to see a locally owned company run buy people who live in the community.
Great corner location. Plenty of parking.
This place gives Peet's and Starbucks a run for their money. I support Steeltown Coffee & Tea for their wanting to be green and giving left over coffee grinds to a local Pittsburg landscaper. Win Win situation for the environment and local community.
My wife and I were driving by Mechanics Bank (Great Bank.. FYI..) one night and saw a bunch of folks inside and thought... "what the heck are people doing in the bank at 8pm on a Friday night????" Â A week later we went for a walk (we live nearby) up Railroad Ave and as we came up to the Bank we saw a number of folks sitting inside and a female singer / guitarist playing solo. Â We peaked in and found that within the bank bldg a new coffee house had opened. Â Yes, this sounds odd, as another review wrote, a coffee house in a bank, but it works well. Â This is a historic building and Mechanics Bank did a great job in restoring it. Â Originally an organic cafe was set to open but never did... Â
Back to the coffee house.... Tonight we decided to stop by for the first time and were we in luck, Kristin Lagasse was playing folk / acoustic music, she had a beautiful voice and set the mood properly. Â We ordered a couple coffee's and sat back and relaxed and enjoyed the live music.
Afterwards we talked with the owner, who said he is trying to have live music every Friday and Saturday nights and is also exploring other options for entertainment such as spoken work, etc.
Though neither of us are coffee nuts, we enjoyed our drinks, my wife had a Cafe Mocha and I had straight coffee, the service was GREAT, the employee's are very friendly and informative.
It is great to see local business doing well and we will do our best to support it.
I like this new place a lot! the frozen green tea is out of sight, and they have rotating frozen specials which are fun to try, last week it was frozen chocolate orange, this week frozen almond latte..unique and creamy...not sticky sweet. They also have a frequent buyer card, and the place makes you feel at home and relaxed...please give it a try..you'll love it..
