I was very happy to see the Stockyard was reopening. I am a very old customer and loved it. I tried it on a Saturday afternoon for lunch waited anxiously for my favorite:"The Famous Lobster Roll." I like sitting at the bar as the old bartenders were very good servers. I was not disappointed with my server, I don't remember his name but my receipt said server:T1 For some reason I waited over 40 minutes for my
lobster roll and I ordered fresh asparagus in place of french fries. My server keep telling my order was on the way and it would only be another few minutes. He was embarrassed about the long delay and offered me rolls and butter while I was waiting. When the lobster roll arrived the vegetables were cold and he offered to replace them which he did. The lobster roll that made them famous, according to Mike Barancle an old regular, was a complete disappointment. The size of it was criminal, less than half of the old one.I brought this to the attention of my server and he said he knew it was smaller and made no excuse. My check was $35.00 with two beers, a lot for a little. Next time I go to Kelleys , three times the size at half the price. Neal Manning would be upset at what has happened to his life's work.
My boyfriend and I stumbled across this place when we happened to be in this area and starving. Let me start out this review by saying that our food and drinks were excellent, and the inside of the restaurant was surprisingly not tacky. Judging by the outside of the building, I totally expected it to be like a Chilli's or other chain restaurant with random s**t all over the walls.
Why only 4 stars rather than 5? Our waitress was really... just something else. When we first sat down, she immediately came to our table to take our drink orders. I am not one to argue against giving me my drink ASAP upon sitting down, but we hadn't had a chance to look at the menu yet, and asked for a minute. She responded with "of course!" and proceeded to stand there awkwardly as we rushed to come to a decision. My boyfriend orders a manhattan, to which she replies "what type of whiskey would you like?" He answers with a solid choice, Maker's Mark, to which she comments "well, that is actually a burbon." The fact of the matter is that manhattans are typically made with a burbon. Fortunately for her (though unfortunately for my own personal amusement) he was so taken aback by such a rude response from the waitress that his reaction was merely "...sorry?" I wish I could say her terrible table-side manner ended there, but that is so far from what actually happened throughout the course of this meal.
We order our food, which consisted of a salad and steak for my boyfriend, and the sirloin special for me. She asks if I would like a starter as well, which I answered with a solid "no." Apparently that was just not acceptable, as she proceeded to tell me about all of the different combinations of salad I had for options. Half caesar, half garden, half blah blah blah. It was brutal.
Salad arrives, and I decide to try a bite of it, as it did look very good. Bad call. She then comes over to our table and repeats her salad lesson.
In a nutshell, this woman really seemed to think we came to her establishment with the sole intention of chit-chatting with her. If anyone in management ever decides to read this: please, PLEASE teach your waitstaff that their job is not to consistently engage their patrons in idle small talk. No one cares that the steak sauce is the chef's special recipe and you just decided to start bottling and selling it 2 months ago. Also, we can read the menu. There is no need to repeat the entire appetizer section to us at a slow-yet-juggernaut pace.
Went on a dinner-date here. Total for two of us with appetizers and steaks was about $90 including gratuity. Very nice place and worth the money, food was good, ambiance was very nice, and waitress was as sweet as they get. I'd wear something with a collar, but you needn't go super-formal, although the atmosphere really allows for you to get as fancy as you'd like.
Review Source:My family and I had been loyal customers to the Stockyard for decades, so I was curious to see how the big ownership change and renovation would effect this neighborhood landmark. I have now been here twice since the re-opening for two different purposes.
First my sister rented a room for an after party for my nieces' First Communion. Some of my sister's choices for the catered food were not what I would have picked (roast pork, lack of green vegetables) but that is nothing new and not the fault of the restaurant. The chicken marsala was very tasty and the service throughout was good. I appreciated that they went out of their way to package ALL the leftover food for us to bring home and I got a solid couple of extra meals out of it.
A couple of weeks ago I took my mother there for dinner using an online coupon I had bought ($25 for $50 worth of food). Again, I found the service to be very pleasant. For the food I went against my normal methods and figured "When in Rome..." for once. I ordered the prime rib. Medium Rare. It was a huge hunk of steak, and very tasty.
Overall, I like what they have done with the place. Frankly, I was a little surprised at how little the place has changed physically. I expected a more drastic change after the months long closure. To me the only real noticeable difference is that they seem to have stripped off some of the kitschy decorations around the place. The main bar looks a little sleeker, which is a nice touch, but overall it's still the old Stockyard - booths and lots of wood.
Oh yeah, the price. The reputation in Brighton seems to be that they have jacked up the prices. It's certainly not cheap, but didn't seem to be a huge difference to me??
Looking forward to trying some more of the non-steak entrees with my family.
I have to say that this is one of those restaurants worth driving in from 30 minutes to go to. They have a killer u shaped bar that is old school and fun to sit at and drink with friends. The food here is great with large cuts of steak skillfully prepared. The chicken and seafood dishes are equally as good even thought this is a "steak house". I very much enjoy this restaurant and have for years.
Review Source:hmm I guess they made a new yelp page for the "new" stockyard. Came here a few months ago, a little after they opened, I have a review for that on the old page, and it was great.
This time we came, our group was a bit smaller. Everytime I drive by, the parking lot is full. everyone is eating here! service is improving and the food was even better this time around.
I think one visit to the new (and improved?) Stockyard is sufficient to write a review.
Turns out, this place (which I had assumed for years was a meat locker of sorts, with a red bull's head illuminating the Mass Pike) is the go-to lunch spot for my group at work, so our latest birthday celebration took place there.
The restaurant is pretty massive, with two dining rooms, a bar that probably spans 100 ft, and a patio. It's dark, but with a handful of TVs lining the dining area. At 11:45 am when we arrived, they featured the daytime news.
The waitstaff has a decidedly mid-nineties look to them(the decade, not the age) and were friendly in a Jersey diner kind of way. The best part of the meal was that it came with (microwaved) bread-- buttery rolls and sesame crackers, and we were offered a second helping. Yes, please!
Free refills on the soda, so I pounded two Diet cokes and ordered what I thought would be a lighter, healthier option that most of the menu items. The menu is full of burgers, fried fish, pastrami sandwiches served with onion rings, breaded chicken salads, and the like. I opted for a calamari salad.
The salad was good and the portion overwhelming for $13, but it too was heavy and greasy, which disappointed me a bit.
I'm sure we'll come back, and I'll opt for an appetizer, or only come on a day when I'm in serious need of a greasy meal.
Had a great experience at Stockyard tonight! I had made reservations a while back for a party of 13 people. Â Katelyn, the Event Manager, was so very accommodating and easy to speak to. Â Everything was just perfect when we arrived. Â The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Â The atmosphere on a Saturday night was very enjoyable as well. Â Most importantly, the food was amazing! A few members of our party had the Prime Rib, ordered medium rare, and it was cooked perfectly. Â I had the steak tips, and they were out of this world. Â My mother-in-law had the salmon, and she said it was delicious. Â All in all everyone was delighted. Â We have no complaints! My only regret is that i forget the name of our waitress - she was outstanding and i would love to be able to pay her a compliment here! Â Thanks so much for making this night perfect. Â We can't wait to go back!
Review Source:Amazing. I'm eating my leftovers the next day right now and it's still mindblowingly good. We ordered the mozzarella and basil flatbread as an appetizer and I had steak tips as my dinner. These steak tips are the best juiciest steak tips I have ever had in my entire life, not exaggerating. I want to eat these every day. No complaints here. We will definitely be back :)
Review Source:Having loved coming here for years I was thrilled to see it reopen. Here are my observations:
1. They did a great job keeping the old vibe while replacing and repairing the old dilapidated booths, chairs and bar. Walking in had the same great feel of the old Stockyard minus the tired look.
2. Service: We ate at the bar and although the place was packed and the bar tender was working like a mad man his attention to us was excellent. Â When we arrived it was so busy we would have had an hour wait. The hostess asked us to wait a minute and returned saying" I found a place at the bar..do you mind eating there." Good customer service.
3. We had two appetizers: the crab claw and the charcutier plate. The crab claw was the only disappointing part of dinner with little meat in the claw. The charcutier plate was excellent with an especially good pate. Both the NY strip steak and the salmon were excellent. Â The steak was large enough to feed a small town. The salmon was perfectly cooked accompanied by delicious mash and asparagus. Â
Finally they make an excellent martini which is my basic metric by which all restaurants are judged. If you are looking for the slick chain experience this is the wrong place. If you are looking for dinner at an old school Brighton restaurant with good value and a great vibe you will love the Stockyard. This place was jumping on Saturday so come early or make a reservation. Great to see the Stockyard is back.
