Had the "Famous George" pizza. It was great. Good beer selection. Nice pub atmosphere. Not too crowded, but we were there pretty early. Good service.

There is nothing wrong with this place. However, is it the greatest place in earth? No. If I lived locally to Elko, it'd easily be a good go-to joint.
The beer selection could satisfy all, and the pizza that I had was pretty delicious.
The singular time I went to the Stray Dog, there was only the bartender acting as the server as well. Despite being understaffed, everyone was satisfied and the barkeep did very well.

This review is like seven months old.

Agree that this is probably the most "normal" place in Elko to just hang out and have a good draft beer.  Went on a Friday on my way through town.  Good variety of beers on tap.  Good age spread in the bar (I'd say ages 25-50).  Mostly locals but a friendly place with a mellow vibe.  Don't go here if you are looking for a serious dive, a cowboy bar, scary cas ino people, exotic dancers, "artistic" wannabe's or mexicans  (which seemed to be the target markets of other places I walked by).  But if you are just looking for a lower case "bar" this is a good bet.

Decent enough place, good food, nice selection of beer on draft. However, bring cash. The shiesty waitresses will alter your card statement to swindle a bigger tip.

    Good little spot,
The pizza's are pretty damn tasty!!!!,
And they have a good selection of make your own toppings.

The beer selection is good. LOTS of spirits to choose from as well.

I like the vibe, small kitchen area with a Pizza Angel back there cranking out very tasty pizzas !!!!

I certainly am glad to find this spot, If I lived here I would be a regular, until they told me never to come back.......

Going back tonight to try some other stuff and watch the UNR game, (I hope)

    BRAVO !!! Stray Dog !!!

Great little small town pub in Elko. Cold Beer, Great Selection, and not too bad of a price. Go and become a regular. If Lori knows you by name, you are in just like family. So go and keep going.

This is kind of a trendy type bar with a great atmosphere and a decent beer selection (15 on tap and a ton more in bottles). I've only eaten here once. They only serve food that can be baked, and I got some spicy chicken tenders. They were decent, but came with nothing but a side of ranch and the portion wasn't huge. The place is not that huge, so it can fill up pretty quickly on a busy night. I will definitely be back to this place for drinks whenever I'm in Elko, but won't likely choose it for dinner again.

I really, really want to love the Stray Dog again but it doesn't seem likely. Once upon a time they had a great menu and a simple business concept: a basic beer bar where you could get some quality grub. These days the menu changes often (as more items get dropped), the hours are random (Lunch? No. Holidays? Not likely. Dinner? Maybe.), and they've added annoyances such as karaoke, video quiz games, and live bands...which wouldn't be so bad if the venue wasn't basically a hallway (which it is).

One reviewer stated that this used to be a funeral parlor, but that is not the case. It was a flower shop that later moved into the funeral parlor that was located where the "wedding chapel" now sits.

stopped in after work and had a shot and a beer.  Bartender friendly and the place is warm and fun.  It was nice to see the bartender knew most of the people who came in and I wish it would have been open for lunch as the pizza smelled wonderful and looked homemade. Next time will have to try it.

We stop here anytime we drive through Elko. They have a good selection of beer of tap and in bottles. The pizzas are really good. They are the right size for 2 or 3 people, have a nice crispy crust, and plenty of toppings. The jalapeno and cream cheese dip is also delicious. It comes with lightly toasted and buttered slices of fresh baguette. during the day it's not too noisy and the bathrooms are kept clean.

    Note: only open from 3:00

Tried to come here for lunch, but was closed. I hate when restaurants don't update their times.

The bartenders are super friendly, and they have karaoke on Saturday nights!  Drinks are cheap, and the selection is very good.
I went to this place last Saturday when it opened at 3:00pm.  I ended up coming back for karaoke at about 11:00pm, and met three nice girls who eventually took me to a strip club.  Since the story surpasses a PG-13 rating, I just wanna say that The Stray Dog is fun, and it'll be my goto spot in Elko from now on.

Not many people know it, but this used to be a funeral parlor but a wall was put up some years ago behind where the bar is now and they split this place into two businesses. Great selection of beers on tap or in the bottle. The first time I went there in 2002 or so, I had the pizza and after that have tried nothing else as it was amazing. I recomend artichoke and pinenuts on it. Also for a great starter, try the Asiago cheese dip that comes with toasted slices of a mini-baguette to dip into the cheese. You will come back for more.

The only normal bar in town. Friendly. A great place to stop by casually for a beer and their excellent pizza, or to make a stay of it and nurse one's alcoholism along.

This place is nicely done up. The local beer, something mountain, tastes bloody fantastic after a hot day in the car. Food was not bad. As per usual, our new little boy charmed them all by not waking up, and just looking cute.

Elko could be such a great town, but looks like they ripped half the place up to make a very large car park in the middle. The bars surrounding the car park have a couple of unsavoury folks stumbling around muttering "you think you're better than me?". On the plus side, we saw some very genuine looking stockmen with some v. groovy wide brim hats.
