Sweet Cheeks

There are tons of BBQ places all over the US that I have eaten in and I am married to a Texan with strong opinions about BBQ.  Sweet Cheeks Q is by far the #1 place we have been to.  Not only unbelievable main dishes but the sides are out of this world.  Great mac n cheese, biscuits to die for and phenomenal farmer's salad.

I promise you this is NOT how the South does BBQ! I was super excited to try this place out after moving to Boston from the South & my craving for fried okra finally kicked in! We went as a group of 4 & none of us left excited. I will say that the biscuits were fantastic...& HUGE! I ordered the BBQ, greens & baked beans. The greens were undercooked & too sweet. The meat was ok & seemed to be your standard BBQ. The beans were not even edible in my opinion. We also ordered a basket of okra for the table & barely breaded okra spears were delivered. Also, the sweet tea was like drinking pure syrup... I wanted to find the chef & show him how we really do okra & sweet tea down South! I won't go back & the 3 friends I went with (who were not Southerners by the way) said they won't either.

Attention people who've never been down South: this is not good BBQ, especially for the price. If you care more about vibe and eclectic beer selection and location, go to Sweet Cheeks. If you want truly good BBQ, this isn't it. The ribs are dried out, too fatty, too expensive. The sauces aren't very good, the baked beans are terrible, and the service is subpar. The menu is designed like a cable tv contract and condescendingly states that items are designed for one person (read they don't want you sharing).

Sure we shouldn't expect greatness for BBQ up here, but this place acts like its God's gift and it's not even close.
