I think it was tasty???
I was a bit too out of it to really give it an accurate rating, but I remember the jalapeno burger being waaaaay too spicy. It kinda overwhelmed everything else.
However, the consistency of the burger was good, and the cheese was melted to perfection.
Oh, and expect to see a lot of drunk people.
I'll post a update when I come back here sober.
Basement bars are a good thing. I descend the stairs and don't have to feel the sun judge me as I sip my first beer before 5pm.
Rotating selections of beers, a couple ciders (please, can I have some more?), and wine on draft served up by excellent staff, generally willing to put up with our shenanigans and ridiculous nerd interrogations.
The onion rings are not my favorite (a style preference, I don't like them thin and piled like a haystack), but the fries are always well salted and crisp. Fast-food style burgers are nicely seasoned, but you gotta load em up. BBQ Onion Burger (add bacon), Spicy Jalapeno, or even The Big Tasty are winners. Props for an extensive lazy Susan full of condiments (sriracha and malt vinegar? Are we at my house?) and a carb free burger salad. Some day I'm gonna be real dumb and try the Tasty challenge and die. But at least I will have died happy at Tasty Burger.
(Pleaaaaaase can you add a full liquor license? Burgers digest better after a shot of whiskey.)
I didn't know it, but this is exactly what I wanted after walking around the Harvard campus! Â There was a large selection of burgers, hot dogs and chicken sandwiches. Â I just went with the basic cheeseburger....so good (and terribly unhealthy). Â My friend got the one with chili and cheese, also amazing. The fries were great too, service was fast and it was a fun atmosphere. Â I went to the bathroom downstairs and it was a fun looking bar. Â I would have eaten down there and checked it out, but we were in a hurry. Â Now, just have to get one of these in Chicago...
Review Source:4.5 stars
Oh no.
Do you guys remember The Great In-N-Out Adventure of 2013? How about The Extreme Dinosaurs 2 Escapade of 2013? Just one taste & I'm worried we're about to have The Super Tasty Burger Event of 2013. Three different sandwich obsessions in less than a year...
Table service downstairs. Order at the counter upstairs. Tasty Burgers look tall, especially wrapped in that unique way that they do.
My crispy chicken sandwich with chipotle mayo, tomatoes, & lettuce was fantastic! A thick piece of moist chicken breast coated in a to-die-for batter--lives up to its tasty name. Large portion. Bun was substantial & didn't fall apart. I'm a happy girl.
Medium-cut fries were so-so. The first few were yummy & salty, but they got cold fast & lost all its appeal.
Going back to try their veggie burger & onion rings...after my 40-minute jog. If you see more than three check-ins a week from me, please call the rehab center for phatties. Thank you.
~$8.50
I've had decent service and food here before. Before this I would have rated this location 3 and a half stars. However, after my most  recent visit I'm going to have leave this location one star.
Last night I ordered a Blue Collar burger, rare, with an extra pattie [fat kid status]. I tipped the cashier, and as I walked away I saw that my receipt said "Hubba" burger. I go back and check the menu to make sure the name of the burger hasn't changed or anything. I tell the cashier I ordered a Blue Collar. He tells the cook, who tells him that they haven't made it yet, but they are not willing to modify the order, and he has to refund and re-ring the order. Another cashier attempts to help the trainee resolve the issue, but it requires a manager, who is nowhere in sight. After about 5 mins a manager comes up, takes five more minutes to void the order. He puts the money back in my hands, even though it's the exact same amount. This is all during busy dinner rush, the other cashier doesn't open up the second register until I'm nearly finished re-paying for my order.
On top of all this, when I finally got my burger, it was terrible. The cooks got lazy. They didn't want to do each pattie separately, instead they made it into one goopy mess. And it was way over cooked. I'm never coming back to this location again. If I have to get Tasty Burger, I will give the Fenway location my business.
This was for upstairs/takeout service, the downstairs service is slightly less bad, though the last time I came the waiter kept pushing us for a higher tip, and tried to force us to keep ordering more drinks.
Go to Felipes or Charlies instead.
Cheap burgers that are, I guess, fairly tasty, but Flat Patties is hands down better if you're looking for a fast food style burger.
50/50 onion rings/fries are overrated (onion rings are more like shoestring onions) and they've never been served warm the handful of times I went.
Their service downstairs, however, it pretty terrible. I can understand hiring someone without servings experience (it is an inexpensive burger joint) but the guys there seem really resentful about being there. It's like they're being forced to work at the family restaurant when they'd rather be out cruising (I'm guessing this is not actually the case, but who knows!).
After a few meh to bad experiences, I'm not going back. If I want a cheap burger and beer, you'll find me at Charlie's. For a quick burger to go, the slightly pricier flat patties is more worth my money.
They. Have. A vegan veggie burger!
And not only that but with tax is costs less than $6. It isn't trying to be a real burger. And they conveniently have sriracha waiting for me at the condiments bar. I was in heaven.
Tasty Burger definitely gave me a pleasant surprise! I've had my omnivore friends rant and rave and I'm glad I can join the party.
2 veggie burgers with everything on them & an order of onion strings and fries.
This joint stays open until 4am! Perfect place to grab a bite to eat and admire the gorgeous dark chocolate, French vanilla and Latino (men) eye candy in the wee hours of the morning.
There are pool tables and a bar located downstairs so you can chill and socialize with other folks.
Yelp TOS says nothing about yelping a place you dont remember but have definitely been to. Â So, I know I have been here because of all the damn bags that have wound up in my apartment floor (unless of course there is an evil burger troll out there just screwing with me which is totally possible). I also know I have been there because of how shitty I feel the next day.I know you all know that feeling of being hungover and just knowing that you ate some really gross food last night.
While I am sure I am happy like a giddy 3rd grade school girl when I am in there, I really hate myself the next day for eating this garbage. Â But hey, at least it's not a McDs or BK lounge so I feel a tad better about it. Â Round out to 3 starz and being really generous as I hate greasy food. Â This rating will probably never change because I will never be coming here sober.
Well, the only thing that I wanted here, they gave me. Â It's not a plastic basket, but a little cardboard bowl thingy to hold my burger is more than enough to suit my purposes. Â
It's like the man said. Â You can have all of the Tasty Burgers some of the time...or...more of...all of the...
....I WANT TASTY BURGER.
Tasty Burger, more like "Mediocre Burger" or "Meh Burger".
I came here today after failing to get into Leo's Place across the street. I have to admit I was curious about this place anyway. But I wasn't intending to visit today. When I walked in I realized the place looked a lot like Five Guys. I dunno why. But I guess in my head I thought it would be similar.
The menu is pretty large. They offer a lot of things including burgers, chicken sandwiches, and even root beer floats. But weirdly it seems most of their burgers don't come with condiments. That made it a tad more difficult for me to order. But soon I came up with a conclusion.
I ordered the bacon cheese burger which also had lettuce and tomato on it. My feeling about lettuce and tomato being on a bacon cheeseburger is "Why bother?". But since it was the only thing I wanted to try on the menu, I didn't tell the girl to leave it off. They do ask you how you want your burger cooked. Medium or well. So that's nice. I wanted a root beer float. But I had asked for the combo. The girl asked if I wanted the float in addition to the soda it came with. "You can't substitute it?" I said. "No." Both cashiers replied to me lethargically. I thought this was kind of stupid, so I just took the soda that came with it. Lame.
It didn't take long to get the food. It looked good at first glance. But the fries were salt-less. I'd say they were a slightly less crappy version of Burger King's fries. A big "meh" in my book. But more importantly, the burger was a cross between Burger King and Wendy's. No condiments on it. Just cheese, tomato, and lettuce. The bacon was limp and disgusting like you get from Wendy's. I don't get why places like this can't crisp bacon properly. Five Guys does it easily enough.
The best part of the meal was the fact that they have Cherry Coke on tap. A fact I took advantage of. This place is everything I've seen before in burger making. The bad parts. There's a better burger shop in the area called Flat Patties. Go there instead. I should have.
I probably would have given this place 4 stars had it not been for the rude service I received and being ripped off.
I had high expectations for Tasty Burger as I have heard many great things about it. I ordered the special of the day, which was the chicken bacon ranch burger, a side of small fries, spicy cheese topping for the fries, and a fountain soda.
The waitress downstairs at the bar, the one with dyed funky hair (who looks like she needs a shower) was not friendly to me, and she only took my friend's order. Obviously since i was with him, I was trying to order food too, but she ignored me. Eventually I got my order in, and she just seemed very blah and somewhat snooty.
The burger came, and after a few bites I realized there was no bacon in it! That is the best part of the burger and the only reason I got it- because I love bacon. What really pissed me off though is that if they have a "special of the day" called CHICKEN BACON RANCH burger, HOW ON EARTH is it possible to forget one of the KEY INGREDIENTS?! I felt like I had already eaten too much of the burger to make a complaint otherwise they would have to recook an entire burger for me again. I also get scared the cooks will spit in my food if I complain so I just ate the burger as it was. There was nothing special about it- it kind of just tasted like the fried chicken sandwich that you can get at McDonalds.
The fries were also not spectacular- just plain old fries, and the portion is quite small. It came with this cheese sauce that honestly just tasted like microwaved tostitos con queso dip.
Can someone also please explain to me how I ended up paying 15$ for this meal??? That is absurd for getting something that tasted like a fast food meal. The burger was 6$, the small fries were 2.75$, the drink was 1.75$, and the cheese sauce was 2$, so the total was about 12$ plus I gave a 3$ tip. I swear I could get the same tasting meal from McDonalds for half the price, and they probably wouldn't have forgotten the bacon!
The only cool thing about this place is that there's beer and wine downstairs. Also, the bathrooms are surprisingly clean.
I wouldn't come back though, unless maybe I had a coupon for a free meal.
Tasty Burger is a fun addition to Harvard Square. Â It looks deceptively small, but that's before you check out the downstairs area, which has a jukebox and a pool table and a more spacious seating arrangement. Â It's hard to believe that there was a 7-11 here just a little while ago!
Based on my experience, it seems like this will be a popular hangout for the youngins, if it isn't already. Â I came here with some grad school friends on a Thursday night just to play pool and have a few beers (they have a pretty good selection on tap), so I have yet to try the food. Â We did have the onion rings, which were pretty tasty. Â I'm looking forward to going back and trying a veggie burger.
feel free to skip this cranky vegetarian review of a burger place.. i mean, i'm not really the target audience. my husband (a meat eater) likes this place. but as a vegetarian i was left totally unimpressed by their veggie burger. it's homemade, which you can tell because as you eat it you kind of flatten the burger and it oozes out on the sides. theoretically i appreciate that. but i think the burger is actually kind of gross. it's like oddly deep fried? it's weird. i really didn't like it and it gave me heartburn. the toppings were uninspired as well.
i also was surprised that when you eat there, you get the same packaging as a to-go order. it seems really wasteful. you really can't give me a plate?
The only place where I will order a burger and fries for dessert, because I'm that disappointed about missing a tasty burger. Â I really like the single cheeseburger-it's not gourmet but its very small, easy to eat, and well, Tasty. The fries are out of this world. I wish I could talk about milkshakes but...
Guys, there is a bar downstairs. A bar with wine on tap and a pretty decent draft list. Downstairs also boasts a juke box, pool table, and cafeteria style seating. It never seems to crowded and reminds me of a 1950s soda shop, except, well beer.
Tasty Burger makes me feel wholesome!
We ate in the full service downstairs and had a great experience. Â The menu is great, prices are reasonable, atmosphere was lively and enjoyable. Â The burger tasted great, I loved the burger and never eat burgers... the meat was tasty. Â The chili dog was sooo yummy. Fries were hot and fresh. Â Beer selection was pretty good. Â Food was filling otherwise we would have got a shake or float.
The nachos werent great and were pretty expensive... we shouldn't have ordered them though... didn't know how big they were going to be :) Â They werent bad, not nothing special.
We had the server Amanda.. and it was her third day... but I want to say she was awesome... so pleasant and helpful and a really nice... props to her!
I went early on a calm Sunday evening with an hour before I needed to return to some volunteer work (hard deadline). I was concerned that there would be some difficulty sitting and being served, but the dining room downstairs was mostly empty. We were directed to a table in the back corner by a server and after she had helped a couple of other people she came and took our drink orders. She returned in a couple of minutes with our drinks and took our food order.
30 minutes later, and after several patrons had come in and been served, I tried to get her attention repeatedly to no avail. I genuinely considered walking out with cash on the table because I was running out of time. After another 5 minutes or so, she seemed to notice us and came back to say, "your food will be just a minute, guys."
5 minutes later, she came back over and asked us if we could give her our food order again. We've been sitting in this restaurant for 50+ minutes. This is when she realized that she needed to take our order agin? And it gets better!
I told her that we simply didn't have the time to wait any longer, and that we would be skipping dinner as a result of whatever happened. She explained that she had done everything right, but that the computer hadn't printed the order upstairs where the food was being made. Doesn't make much sense, but I guess it's possible. But that doesn't explain why you're asking for our order again, does it?
So she walks away and comes back with a check with just our drinks on it. She says, "I was going to show you how I had put in the order, but you looked really mad so I just took the food off." What? In what world did that sentence make any sense? Clearly, the woman didn't put our order in and then buried herself deeper and deeper in her own bullshit. I'm really angry.
I asked to speak to the manager, who told me that, "the computers sometimes do things," and further that the server should have called upstairs to confirm that the order went in. He then offered to put our food back on the bill and let us pick it up upstairs. Again, not an option, as I need to be back volunteering in about 5 minutes at this point.
It's unfathomable to me that nobody, at any point, tried to make this right beyond shifting the blame and telling me that I wouldn't have to pay for food that was never ordered. The number of lies told to my face was completely unacceptable. They couldn't even keep their story straight.
I emailed using the form on their website and got no response, so I assume that it's considered ok by management for this to happen. Just bear this in mind if you're considering going. Not only will they lie to your face and refuse to accept the blame for what was obviously their mistake, but they'll pat themselves on the back for only ripping you off by making you sit around, when they could have ripped you off by charging you for food that they never gave you!
I said unbelievably terrible service, and I mean that in the truest sense of the word. Completely unbelievable.
This review is for the full service restaurant/bar area downstairs.
If it was just for the food, I would have given this place 3 (really, 3.5 stars). Didn't try any of their fancy special burgers, just the cheeseburger which I enjoyed. For a fast food-y burger, it was pretty good, decently juicy, well cooked. For the price, the size and fry portion were great. I thought it was odd that they served soda in a paper cup (with no refills) given that we were in the "full service" area.
The main problem I had with this place was the service. We ordered drinks from one guy, who never came back with our drinks (nor to take our order). Finally found another waitress to take our order. The waitress was never around when we needed something. Never came back to check on us. And took forever to bring our check around.
I'll be back, but only for the fast food part of the restaurant upstairs.
Burgers are very good for fast food style.
Fries are very good for any style.
The bar is more than very good for everything you want a bar to be. It's dark and basementy. You can have beer and burgers and fries for not a super lot of money. It's spacious and never too too crowded. You can be as in-the-mix and sociable or as isolated-at-a-table as your mood dictates. There are probably TVs and Best Friends there. I am not sure about the TVs because I am usually destracted by the Best Friends. There's a thing on the wall*. Go see it!
Basically Tasty Burger has really snuck up on me. Least Expected Favorite Place To Be 2013. I'd say it's a shoe in, if you know what I mean.
*I am not sure if there is really a thing on the wall.
Perhaps I set my expectations a little too high, but I was slightly disappointed and I cannot really put my finger on the root cause. Perhaps it could be one of the following:
* I have only been to the Tasty Burger in Fenway and I knew, or thought I did, what I was getting myself into
* I went here on a Friday night at 7 p.m. ... when it is super busy.
* The soda machine was 90% out (but I give them credit for having one of the new neat machines!)
* The wait staff wasn't the friendliest (but then again, if I was working there on a Friday night when the line was terribly long, I would be in the same boat as them).
Whatever. I ordered myself a gorgonzola veggie burger and it was okay. Maybe I am not used to having my veggie burgers made with so many beans, but it just did not knock my socks off. The french fries, on the other hand, were amazing. My buddy ordered the ABC burger (apple pie, bacon, and cheddar) which was surprisingly great, he reported. His only suggestion is to change the name from ABC to "sweet, savory, and [something else that begins with an S]).
I ventured into the basement (the bar) to use the rest room... the bar is a little loud (yikes, I sound like an old brat) but they have pool tables and a nice dive bar vibe.
I plan on going back to this location another time that is not Friday night... I would like to see if the service is any better (but for what it's worth, it was okay for a Friday night).
Love the burger. Add a patti to make it a double. Regular double burger is fantastic. Double onion burger is even better. Crispy onions, sautéed onions. Tasty!
French fries with sausage gravy and cheese, yes!
The challenge will be had - half pound hotdog, a burger, cheese sauce, onions and bacon.
Pitchers of beer downstairs.
I cannot say enough good things about Tasty Burger. Â Seriously. Â I usually frequent the Cambridge location, but have been to the Fenway location once. Â My absolute favorite part of Tasty Burger is that they have super delicious (and perfectly textured) gluten free (dairy free!) buns! Â I thought I'd lead a bunless burger existence for the rest of my life, but alas, Tasty Burger has saved me! Â They're also super accomodating. Â I ordered a burger with satueed onions and they put on fried (definitely not gluten free) onions. Â They took it back and made me a fresh, safe one. Â Major points in my book for them correcting their error without a big stink.
Foodwise, the burgers are really good. Â I'm a big fan of the chili burger, but even just a regular cheeseburger is awesome. Â I'm never disappointed.
I actually started my birthday bar crawl at the downstairs bar at Tasty Burger. Â I never thought I'd enjoy wine in a can, but the Sophia Coppola sparkling wine they have is awesome. Â It comes in a cute pink can with a cute pink straw. Â Definitely hard femme and super delicious.
It was a fun place to grab lunch, except for the fact that it was swarming with ickle college freshmen. But no matter, the important stuff is what's in between the bread, and unfortunately the patties weren't the best I've ever tasted: I actually think Five Guys is superior! The French fries were thin and crispy, though, which I appreciated, and very well-salted. They've got the cool fountain drink machines with the touch screens, which are always a good time... and speaking of good time, there's full service downstairs (huge dining area with pool tables and a bar!), which is also where the restrooms are housed.
All in all, decent burger joint, but not my fave, and not totally convinced that it's worth the $$$ for an OK burger and pretty good fries.
Kahuna burger: pretty mediocre... needed more teriyaki, less pineapple, and smaller pieces of onion. And, the chips with guacamole and hummus only cost 50 cents less than the actual burger? Yikes.
Wait, what's that, you say? It's 3:30 in the morning, everyone is intoxicated, Tasty Burger can do any regular burger veggie-style, and everything besides that CVS reminiscent of a rural fringe food venue is closed?
Good enough for me.
Visited on a Friday for dinner at the basement (where they have full service). Good food, and good vibe given the pricing but the stench of the kitchen leaked to where the tables are located and the waiter was arrogant, forceful, rude and over the top.
The only reason why I am giving it 2 stars is because the food was good (I ordered a Turkey chipotle burger with 50:50 fries). I've always experienced something so much better at the Fenway location so this disappointed me given the fact that I traveled all the way to this location to try it out...
When it comes down to it, there are very few quick and tasty (and affordable) restaurants in Harvard Square. One of them is Tasty Burger. Â I've dined there several times since they opened in January, both upstairs in the fast food area and downstairs in the super cool "college hangout" areas. Â
What I love most about the place is the friendly service from the folks running the cash register. They are really helpful for indecisive customers (me) who have a hard time deciding on the simplest of menus, and are open really late which is a plus!
As far as the food goes, what's not to love about the burger! The veggies are always fresh and the Tasty Sauce adds a fun zing. Â The fries are also usually perfectly crispy and hot. Â Let's be honest, it's not In-n-Out or even Five Guys but it definitely gets the job done!
How do I love thee, Tasty Burger? Let me count the ways.
1. open until 4 a.m. Even Chinatown's got nothing on these guys.
2. BEER! Draft beer. GOOD beer.
3. Tasty signature burgers! Hamburger beef is organic, grass-fed, daily massaged, infused with holy water, etc etc etc, and just soooo tasty.
4. Tasty hot dogs too! All the way dog (like a footlong chili dog + bacon cheese burger, and some other crap on top)
5. Sack of burgers (5 burgers in a sack for $20. share with friends!)
6. Pool tables and lounge in the basement, for all your late night chill-time needs.
Finally, the Boylston favorite has spawned a second location in Cambridge. I can't believe it's taken this long. I can't believe nobody's thought of this before!
On one hand Tasty Burger is a welcome addition to Harvard Square, on the other given the great venue it just fell short for me. Remember to GO DOWNSTAIRS as there is much more seating as well as a pool table and bar. Â The rest of the review is a little critical as I expected a little more, but overall this place is definitely worth a solid cheap meal with friends and great place to for a late snack and a drink if you are in the square.
The burgers are tasty and reasonably priced but not up to the standard of in-n-out or Five Guys. Â The guys I was with found the burgers a little small and advised ordering a second if you are really hungry (a side of fries might do the trick though). Â As far as sides go the fries are good but not fantastic and the side salads are nothing to write home about.
I don't know why I was so surprised by the 50/50 fries and onion rings combo being a huge serving (for $4).
The big tasty burger is ... tasty enough. I suppose I will have to try the many variations of the burger with sauces and all before I can deliver a final verdict on Tasty Burger.
Just dropped in for some fries and a shake with my best guy. We ended up getting a 50/50 fries and onion rings. The fries were good not great. The onion rings were good. More like onion strings.
The shakes were awful. They are premixed and don't seem to contain anything close to ice cream. In fact they aren't even really cold. What the hell is up with that?! Â The "strawberry" flavor is so extra sweet it's undrinkable. Â I've never seen a shake that color. Â Very disappointing.
Wow, this place gets a gold star for being true to it's namesake. They make some really tasty burgers. I had tried an onion burger on a whim one evening. Fortunately, when I went it was in the middle of the week so I didn't have to wait much. I took my time ordering, as they've got a nice menu of all pretty flavorful sounding bites but I'm a sucker for sauteed onions and cheese.
When I finally placed my order the girl at the register asked, "did you want that well done or medium?". Thank you for asking. Usually places don't and you just get a pink in the middle surprise when you bite into it. I however like all my meats fully cooked. Also decided to go for the half fries half onion rings and make a meal out of it.
Finally sitting down to enjoy my meal I take a bite and wow, that sure was tasty. Everything about the burger was great, cheese, onions and all. There was also plenty of fries and o-rings to be had. I didn't even bother with condiments. They might rival Four Burgers in deliciousness good thing Four Burgers isn't in Harvard Square. Tasty might be new but it can hold it's own among H-Square's more established joints.
On another note I seemed to have developed a craving for their food. So much that I had to go back 2 days later and make sure it wasn't a fluke. That's the excuse I used to have another burger. This time though I made it a turkey burger. Its definitely a plus that you can sub a turkey or veggie patty at no extra cost, they also do sell beer and they're open until a ridiculous hour in the morning. This place has just about all the right things going for it.
