We drive in from South Loop to eat here and my husband even drove out once to pick up a pizza and bring it home where I had the oven waiting to keep it warm and crunchy! We've eaten here over a dozen times so far and have recommended it to many people and now we have people checking this place out. Personally for me, it's my new favorite. I've had friends order a pizza with italian beef on it that said it was fabulous and personally, I love the sweet pepper pizza and always request a little well done. The ingredients always taste fresh and the crust, just a perfect ingredient to exposed crust ratio! The owner even mentioned he grows some of his veggies in a little garden in the patio. The staff is always friendly and kind, but not over the top warm & fuzzy, which is fine for me. The place is very casual and informal...they know their pizza though and have a spacious outdoor byob patio. The other plus for me is that they are very kid friendly. The only thing I did not care for is one time when we ordered food in the patio, our pizza was brought out in a pizza box instead of a metal tray, which I think made the pizza a little soggy in the middle. But so far, it was only that one time. Just about everyone you know likes a different kind of pizza, for my husband and I, we agree Tata's is our favorite and it's very well priced compared to similar styles up north!
Review Source:I think this is one of those love-it-or-hate-it places.
My husband and I love this pizza, and our young adult kids always object. (But since we're buying it, I guess their vote doesn't count!)
Anyway, I really like the crust and the sauce, and they layer on toppings like crazy. Mmm.
The kids say the sauce is too sweet and there's too much cheese. (Can there ever be too much cheese?) Maybe it is a little on the sweet side, but that's fine with me.
It's also very reasonable.
I should mention that this review only addresses the carry-out, not the outdoor patio. I haven't tried that yet so I can't assess the service.
Personal favorite: sausage/mushroom/garlic. But give other combos a try; you'll probably like it.
We live just a few blocks from here and were so excited when they put the outdoor patio up. Â It is the perfect place to walk up for dinner on a nice day and relax outside while eating a good meal. Â Unfortunately, we were pretty disappointed with the pizza. Â We gave it 2 tries...6 months apart...with the same result. Â I hate the crust. Â It is so boring...no taste at all and just blah. Â I also did not care for the tomato sauce. Â I LOVED all the fresh toppings though and it was served in a reasonable amount of time, nice and fresh and hot. Â If it were good pizza, we would be here all the time because of the location and patio, but really I would prefer almost any other pizza place in the area. Â Most are a little cheaper also.
Review Source:A place offering legitimate vegan pizza (read as also: with soy cheese! Squee!) within a reasonable driving distance (to get some take out nosh, that is) and for a reasonable price (a small, plain "cheese" cost less than twelve bucks)?
Oh.hells.yes.
Now, listen. I've been doing the vegan thing long enough to eat plenty of 'za (probably far more than I should ;) sans cheese, sneaky egg washes, and the like. But sometimes a girl just wants to get up on a soy-cheese laden slice of deliciousness. Amirite?
Now, some of the obvious pluses are price and location (at least for me). We also ordered at, say, six-something on a Friday night & twenty minutes later, we had a pizza in our car, ready to rumble. We went with the straight up "cheese" (which, from the looks of it, is Teese) because I wanted to see this beauty in all it's glory before filling it to the max with veggies (next time). Here's my quick analysis:
1. It was cut beautifully. This is a big plus in my book.
2. The crust was interesting in a good way. Light and flaky but with enough body to hold up all the goods.
3. The sauce was interesting in an interesting way. It was sweet, but almost had a kick to it. Jury's out on this one. I usually gravitate more toward a simple, robust sauce but this was not bad at all...just interesting in an interesting way.
4. The "cheese"...was....well, good but it needed some help. Teese comes in round tubes and it was pretty obvious that they did the old slice-and-slap with the circles. This left some gaping sauce parts, and some areas double coated with cheese. Another gripe of mine? Cut the slices thin if you're not going to grate them. There were a couple of bites where I actually had to deep six cheese since it was pretty much like a foot deep (okay, not really...but you catch my drift). Ultimately, while I know it's a PIA, grating the cheese is the way to go. Or hell, switch to Daiya where it's already shredded. (And admittedly, I'm biased there since I loves me some Daiya.) But I wasn't impressed with the whole drop a slab here, drop a slice there, drop a slab here routine.
In short: yes, I will order again and next time with veggies galore. Definitely worth checking this out if vegan pizza is your bag and you rock the southside something fierce. :)
Oh, and PS - call first to make sure they're offering vegan pizza. My husband called once a few weeks ago and they weren't serving it that day. So to avoid any potential soy cheese disappointment when you get to Tata's, you might want to pick up the phone first.
This has become my favorite neighborhood pizza place. It just has that home made quality about it. You can tell from the photo up there...the pieces are irregular, rough-cut, toppings are strewn about. The ingredients are fresh and the crust is nice. Good value, too. Very spartan, utilitarian look to the place. Owner seems like an odd bird, probably never worked this kind of service industry position because he kind of lacks social skills. Just sort of grunts and slides the pizza at you. This might bother some but it adds to the appeal for me. He's just a no-nonsense pizza maker. People think I look unfriendly and unappraochable too.
Review Source:I decided to give this pizza a try based on the great reviews but, it fell short. For one the pizza was cold and soggy and the taste was awful. The sauce was good but all the other ingredients were sub par. The cheese had the texture and taste of a frozen pizza and the sausage tasted more like hamburger than Italian sausage. My wife said she has had better frozen pizzas than this and, I have to agree. The price was low for the family size at only $17 but I would rather pay a bit more for a better pizza since we threw away the leftovers which we never do with other pizzas
Review Source:I absolutely LOVE this place. If u like sweet pizza sauce then this is the place to order from. Although their prices are a little more than other area pizzas, it is totally worth it. They have fast delivery as well. You can also walk in for a slice and pop. They have recently built an outdoor patio area too. Looks great! They also have a sit down area in the back.
Review Source:I LOVE their veggie pizza! The owner and staff of this pizzeria are very nice. They've donated to the Beverly Arts Center a bunch of times - pizzas of course! And they always let me hang up our posters. The food is delicious and a pretty reasonable price! They recently added a patio/ cafe in the back - it looks adorable, but I haven't actually sat in there yet. Just thinking about it makes me hungry!
Review Source:Exactly the way pizza should be - good, fresh and cheap.
Part of a block of unexpected vegan and vegetarian delights (right across the street from Veggie Bite), they make vegan pizza with soy cheese here if you want it. Â But I didn't tonight - Tonight I wanted sliced porky goodness atop a cheese of cowy goodness. Â Tata's did not disappoint.
With the Blackhawks game on above him, we got to see the guy make all of the pizzas himself while shooting the shit - everything is all out in the open and pretty bare bones, no seating.
The tomato sauce is very fresh and tomatoey, not too salty.  We got pepperoni that had a nice amount of spicy zing  to it.  The crust was fairly thin and a bit crunchy on the edges - nice. Seriously, this thing got tore up at my house in a matter of minutes - even the baby was saying more in baby language "Mowaa! Mowaa!"
Not at all the best pizza I ever had, but the combination of tasty quality and a good price earns it big time stars. Â Maybe next time I'll try the thick and puffy potato dough crust they say is their specialty....
An extra large with a bunch of pepperoni on it took them about 15 minutes to make and cost less than $18 bucks. And he gave us a liter of Squirt to go with it. Sweet.
