I met my friend there, sat at a table by the bar. Our waiter, Josh, was initially friendly and conversational, but began to rush us out of there shortly after we received our food. He dropped the bill off saying "no rush, just whenever you are finished". We weren't even close to having finished our food at that point, but we handed him our credit cards and asked him to split the bill. He picked up the signed receipts and wished us a good night (we still had food and full glasses of wine). To my horror, he returned to the table and asked my friend if she had meant to tip him more. He actually showed her my credit card receipt, saying "she tipped me more than you did"! Between our tips, Josh had received over 27% of the total bill, there was no reason for him to come back. This ruined our night, we left embarrassed.
Review Source:This place had good food, but it was a bit pricey. I enjoyed the turkey burger I ordered. Our tab ran pretty high because we ordered a few beers and dessert in addition to dinner. We waited about an hour for a table, but we had a large group and it was a weekend night so I didn't mind. Service was "meh." They have a great selection of beers. Waited a while to get beers at the bar, though. It was pretty crowded.
This was my first time at Tavern in the Square and I would go again just for beers and appetizers so I wouldn't have to spend so much- and perhaps go at a less busy time. Dinner was good, but not exactly worth it for the price. I might go to dinner here again if it was a special occasion or something. Not for a casual dinner.
I struggled with my rating for Tavern in the Square because there were things I did enjoy but also things I did. Â The location is great- right off Middlesex Turnpike in Burlington and is a great meeting spot with friends. Â However, getting into the parking lot is difficult and their main parking is limited. Â The food was meh, just ok. Â Their concepts are great but they just couldn't fully execute the dishes. Â I tried this place for a second time for girl's night because the drink menu looked good. Â Our first round of drinks we had to send back because they lacked flavor and were just not good. Â They allowed us to order a different drink, which was great of them; however the second drink also lacked flavor and creativity. Â They have a very large bar with surrounding TVs and I think this is more of a beer and burger type place to hang out and watch a game. Â I may consider going back to try the Sunday brunch buffet but do to recent unpleasant food experiences, that probably won't be for a while.
