For our family, "getting a carwash" was code for going to time out. This place used to be awesome until it closed. We were hoping that the owners would have it carry on in the building. Now we go to Charlie's Web around the corner.

So, I've driven by this place a hundred times and finally decided to check it out for some pre-show libations on the way over to Wits End Comedy Club.

It was a Sunday and their specials included 50 cent wings, $2 pints & $6 pitchers. Good deal! And, they don't limit you to the usual Coors & Bud for the cheap beer prices, you can get ANY of their brews on draft for that price! I went with 10 wings (only $5) and a pitcher of Shock Top. Nice!

I am not a fan of fried wings, but that just seems to be how ya'll do them in Denver. The wings here were fried and tossed in a fantastic gooey sauce that made my eyes burn just looking at them. The Shock Top helped keep me from breathing fire. They were pretty awesome! These are some messy wings. Do not order these unless you are down to get dirty.

The clientele is an interesting mix of neighborhood folk. Tattoos were abundant, both military & prison. Apparently, the old white wife beater tank is out of style, in favor of the colored wife beater (to better show off the tats?). But, everyone there was just really friendly. As people walked past your table to the restrooms or the patio, they actually smiled and said "hi". Our server, Cinnamon, was super friendly and right on top of the drink situation (which was a difficult task, since she was the only server in the whole place and it was not a slow night).

The patio is pretty cool. Part of it is covered, part is open. Okay, it does have the fantastic view of, well, the parking lot, but I can definitely see myself coming out with some friends and putting away a pitcher or two while enjoying some sun out there.

I think we have officially made this our "spot" for pre & post comedy show libations. Cinnamon told us they have $5 all you can drink Coors Light & a DJ on Wednesday nights, Karaoke on Tuesday & Thursday and DJ dancing Friday & Saturday. Nice!

A banner on the outside wall announces a Budweiser pitcher special that runs from 2-6 p.m: if you're on the kind "time out" that lasts from your 20s to your mid-40s, this promo seems to have special appeal.

I'm joined by Dark Haired Honey, who refused to go into this place with me the last time we drove by. I didn't blame her. The crew reveling just inside the entrance looked like extras from Gummo. They looked like they were drinking rent money. Which actually should be hard to do here. Check out the Monday specials: $8 Pizza/Calzone & Pitcher, $3 U-Call-Its (9pm-Close), Free Beer! (8pm-9pm), 4 shots for $15 (9pm-Close). That's seriously impressive.

Time Out -- like the Que Bueno down at Westminster Promenade that becomes "Club Ultra Sheer" on weekend nights -- also bills itself as Club 5280. Tonight, it feels like Time Out. A few dazed-looking middle-aged barflies are around, including a late-forties-looking couple who sit nearly motionless on two barstools nearest the door. The woman has an immense, flowing wig and glasses. She trades no words with the bearded man to her left. It's impossible to eavesdrop on people who don't say anything.
