Tonic on 4th is now a event center. I liked it when it was a nightclub, but it does make for a good event center.  There is several areas so people can spread out.  It is a classy place and does have places to sit.  I am not sure what options they have for setting it up. I was there for a league of animal welfare event and it was set up very well for this event

A couple of things about Tonic- they are no longer open, in the sense that you can stop in and relax, having a couple drinks with friends.  I just so happened to have spoken with the manager this past weekend when I was there, and she told me that they only do banquets and private parties now.  Also, I do believe that because of this, both the ambience and the service have suffered.

A friend of mine invited me out on this evening and I was excited to go because of the good things I'd heard about Tonic.  But when we arrived, we were told to wait outside so we could "generate buzz".  Not cool, because we stood outside the door for at least 20 minutes.

When we did finally get in, I have to say that I really did like the decor.  It's classy.  The lighting, the chairs, the bar, it's all very top notch.  However, like I mentioned before, the service was terrible.  For about an hour and a half they only had one person tending the bar, and she was a lot more surly than I would have liked to her be.  I understand that she may have been stressed out from all the pressure of being the lone bartender, but my first impression of her was when my group walked in the door and there were no more than 15 people in the building, including employees.

They did clear out some space for dancing, because there was a DJ there that night, but it was inadequate.  I think a lot more people showed up than they were expecting because the space they reserved for this event was packed.

Unless I'm invited to another private party at Tonic, I don't think I'll be back.

Tonic is a tad on the expensive side but you get what you pay for....I like the atmosphere quite a bit but the bar was competely empty when we visited on a Thursday nigth and this gave me pause. Turns out with good reason, Tonic is now a rental space for special events.

The drink menu was divine and the staff was probably the most knowledgeable I've seen in the city when it came to craft cocktails.  Definitely a place to unwind after work and do some networking with the businesses crowd. The ingredients used were fresh and, according to the staff, locally obtained when possible.

The vibe was decidedly laid back wtih comfortable seating, large viewing screens, and there was a DJ at the very end of the long space.  Good dance floor and hopefuly the place will make it as a special events room.  I liked Tonic - FAR better than FB's but it is a different bar...a throwback to another era.

Thankfully, Local 127 is still in operation and I believe they will have the fantastic craft cocktail menu in their dining choices.
