Oh Trina's! How I love thy drinks so. If you are in the mood for a drink that you can take the alcohol in and not just a watered-down, unrecognizable concoction, come here! The food's pretty good, too. However, I don't come to eat. I come to imbibe.

Hot damn, I love you Trina's.  And sadly, you are the place I almost never make it to (sad face).

Comfort food with an attentive twist as well as stellar cocktails.  If you like to people watch, pull up a chair.

p.s. If you don't like tattooed, creative people, don't bother showing up.

Okay, so I may have met my husband here, but I promise this place is deserving of 5 stars otherwise.

Everything about this place is awesome: the space, the retro decor, the staff, the service, the menu, the food, the cocktails, and even the Starlite mints available in the ladies room. I love that I can go to Trina's without a clue what I feel like eating or drinking, and there will always be something that totally knocks my socks off. Both the food and the drink menus change seasonally, but the old standbys will always remain: delicious fresh-out-of-oven cornbread dripping with butter, gooey mac and cheese topped with Ritz crackers, sloppy Joe night (Wednesdays), and the Fallen Angel spicy mango margarita. This place is excellent for both a nice sit-down dinner or for grabbing drinks at the super-friendly bar (I love all the bartenders here).

I proposed to my wife at Trina's in front of 50 of our friends and co-workers.  This place means that much to us.  I've lost track of how many meals and cocktails I've had here and I've literally never been disappointed.  One of our favorite spots in the world.

Trina's is a perfect blend of what I love in a bar/eatery! It looks like a dive from the outside so its fun to suprise people. It is really hip and funky inside as well - its dark, but in a good way. The bar area is chill - and does have one TV as well. They have super original cocktails and great, local beers on tap as well! On all my visits, the staff has been awesome. Everyone seems really happy to be working there - I would be too!

So far so good right....now the food - even better! Only once did I not LOVE my dish and last time I went that was no longer on the menu anyways (the southern ramen ). I went with a large group for a special occasion last week and eveyone really enjoyed their meals. I got the 5 minute egg appetizer not knowing what to expect....it was awesome! The candied bacon was unreal. A few of my friends got the haddock, which came with this amazing sweet potato hash. So good. Another standout is the mac & cheese - so cheesy and smooth!! Last but not least, I was not aware that onion rings could blow my mind, but the onion rings blew my mind - they are thin and crispy - perfect complement to a great meal.

Dont decide on your meal before you hear the specials either - there is always a special hot dog of the day, and Wednesday is sloppy joe night. Winner winner chicken dinner kids. Love Trinas!

YESSSS. Right now it's a four star place to me, but I haven't tried the cocktails yet. We had gnocchi, dude had the Starlight Burger, both were wonderful. The gnocchi was more mac 'n' cheesey than I originally thought it would be. Definitely heavy on the parm (this is not a problem). Atmosphere is pretty chill and there are multiple Penguins fans working at this bar. We will definitely be back soon.

This place has someone for everyone.  A previous reviewer noted that it was "aggressively" hipster, but don't let that scare you away.  Its not like you will be turned away by a ear hooped bouncer with a neck tattoo, fedora, tight pants and a 1980 vintage T shirt  if you don't show up on a fixed gear bicycle.  It is decidedly hipster but not obnoxiously so.... comfortable in its decidedly hipster skin. "Aggressively hipster" just reminded me of Fred's "biker's rights" character in Portlandia, and its not that type of place.

The only reason I did not give Trina's 5 stars is the lack of live music.  Trina's supplanted the Abby Lounge a few years back. Entirely different places, I know, but a small band once in a while would be a nice way to connect to the buildings rock and roll roots and to the neighborhood.

I am giving this 3 stars, none of which were earned last night.

(1.5 for the service from our waiter, which was good, and 1.5 for previous visits, which had been pretty good).

The host was arrogant - and made us feel unwelcome - this really pissed me off. I had two interactions with him - and they were equally frustrating. It left me wondering if I had done something - but I think someone just pissed in his cheerios and he took it out passive aggressively on people. He should not be in the service industry.

As I mentioned earlier, our waiter was friendly and attentive.

I got a single burger which arrived burnt and with a soggy / slimy bottom bun, it was seriously gross and I had to send the bottom bun back and wait (a while) for a new one. Meal burnt AND cold. [I have had their burgers before - I am familiar with the style, but Charlie's does them better.]

Anyhow, it was a busy nice, shit happens, the attitude if what really made me decide never to go back.

I came here after dragon boat practice with my hair completely crazed out and still wet from a splashy time on the Charles. My heart was hankering for a glass of rosé and a warm bowl of comforting ramen. I ordered the booze and noodles from the sweet and extremely polite bartender.

As for the food, the ramen was pretty...just okay. I loved the collard greens sweetened with Dr.Pepper and the fried egg was nice too. However, I would have loved the broth to be a bit more flavorful (maybe more salt or soy sauce) given the fact that it was paired with such great ingredients. Also, the noodles looked like the ramen I make at home on lazy work nights. I wasn't an uber fan of the food this time around.

Though, hear me out - I do love this place! The charm is there and the food usually matches. Go here and get the mac'n'cheese which never fails and then a slice of their delicious pie. You'll be happy with 90% of the items on the menu.

Great food, great cocktails, great waitstaff, but it was a little slow.  Granted, this was 7pm on a Friday night, so I can't really complain!

This place may well have been the most aggressively hipster establishment I encountered in all of Greater Boston.  It gets the trying to be Williamsburg thing down better than anywhere else I encountered thru-out any of the more hipster-leaning hoods up in these parts (here in Somerville, Jamaica plains, stretches of Cambridge, now theres even a dusting of it mixed in out in East Boston).  The place is a retrofitted old dive bar that has sort of been repurposed but still appropriately dark and ever so seedy.  Also they kept that badass retro Miller Highlight sign out front.   It kind of reminds me of a smaller version of The Commodore in Williamsburg Brooklyn, one of the all time best uber-hipster establishments IMO, and has a drink and food menu not altogether dissimilar.
The drinks are potent and delicious, a friend favored the multi booze concoction called the rocking chair while I often fell victim to the delis spicy margarita dubbed the Fallen Angel.  Beer selection was good and while the food was maybe not as good as the world class stuff you get down at the commodore, it was solid nonetheless.  Id have to say my personal highlights sampled were the "Parisian Gnocchi" which was tasty, but very very rich, and the awesome appetizer offering the "Peanut Hummus' served with addictive house made potato chips.  The burger was solid, an in-n-out fast food style, but a bit small.  The much heralded chicken and waffles were again solid but fell maybe just a tad short of the hype for me.
As I indicated earlier this place gets the hipster thing down right.  The vibe, service and crowd are edgy in just the right way.  Perhaps not surprisingly this place is run by a team including a much beloved veteran both of Cambridge's East Coast Grill in its prime, and my new personal favorite spot, Somervilles  Highland Kitchen.  These guys know what there doing and it shows.  The obvious research on trips to Brooklyn paid off.

I love every single thing about this bar and now that it's sunny and springy outside I will force myself to walk the mile from my house to hang out here more often. It is probably my favorite bar that I almost never go to.

I love the room. It's little and perfectly bar-like in the most fantastic and cozy and bad-behavior inducing of ways. And In the room, I love the music, which is generally just old enough that I don't quite know the words even though I'm sure I know the song, and I want desperately to sing along but I just can't do it.

And after the music I guess I love the staff. They are friendly in a don't-you-ever-forget-who's-boss kind of way. Quick with a bourbon and a Miller Hi Life pony. Just as quick with a chili cheese dog when my very life depends on it. (Hint: It always depends on it. ALWAYS.)

And, well, I'm no fool, so I certainly love the chili cheese dogs. And the bourbons, of which they have a respectable selection. And the mixed drinks, if you're fancy, which I occasionally pretend to be.

The drinks are a wee bit pricier than Green Street's, but the food is a way bit less pricey, so in the end I think you'll just about even out. GOOD FOR YOU.

Let's see now, how much do I love Trina's?

So very much, that I've scurried here straight from Logan airport (bags in tow), for a much needed drink after a long week. Enough to introduce it to all of my closest friends as if it was a ritual; and even my mum with this nervous expectation like I was introducing a secret lover or something.

Trina's is my Achilles heel. I crumble and give up any resistance because it combines quite possibly every element of my ideal Friday night. Outstanding cocktails, an extensive beer selection for those who prefer it, a low-key unpretentious vibe that makes everyone feel welcome and my favorite part - Brilliant music featuring The Smiths, The Shins, Bowie, Depeche Mode, Frou Frou and every song that would feature in a Hipster's wet dream.

The glorious Army Navy with St. George Terrior gin and lemon bitters happens to be my favorite followed by The Violet Hour with cucumber vodka, lime lavender syrup and creme de violette  (surprisingly not very sweet) and of course The Rocking Chair with black tea-infused bourbon, Canton, lemon.  The food here is simple, well made and always recommended. For all you meat lovers, they feature a "dog of the day" which is probably the most popular menu item, although my favorite back then was the fried chicken and buttermilk waffles.

Go to Trina's with high expectations because it won't disappoint. Expect it to be a little crowded, perhaps a little rowdy. Expect to meet interesting strangers and maybe even a bunch of people who start singing out loud to Dexy Midnight Runner's "Come on Eileen" because well, that's what Cambridge is all about.

Great atmosphere and fun, tasty cocktails but the food was not very good!

I got the Grilled Muenster which was served with a side of succotash.  The sandwich came out luke-warm and the succotash was very blah.  I had to add salt.  My husband got the Chicken and Waffles.  The chicken was very dry and the waffle had no flavor.

I'd go back for cocktails but not for food.

Oh man, I have dreams about the Starlite burger, Trina's has become one of my favorite spots in Somerville (yet conveniently located near the Cambridge border in Inman!). I always inquire about the blue plate special, which either my wife or I will order. You also probably gathered from the other reviews that Trina's has some awesome cocktails. Other items to consider are the corn fritters and bbq sweet potato chips. Lastly, the one time I had enough room after my meal, there was a delicious slice of lemon pie waiting for me at the end of the road. I haven't had the privilege to check out their infamous Monday brunch...but I hope to :)

    Hmmm corndogs

My idiot drunk friends and I stumbled in here late one night after a party. We were seated at a table just to have a beer or two and chat. We decided to get some food off the menu. Even though I don't believe I've eaten a corn dog since I was 12 years old. I figured I would try it. My friend even asked the server if they would be willing to make their "dog of the day" with a corn dog and they happily accomodated him. I didn't know that it was possible to make a corn dog so freaking delicious. My friend loved his special one as well. We were all definetly pleased with the food and the service that night and left very happy and satisfied.

I've been wanting to try Trina's for 2 years now and after finally visiting the other day I have to say it was well worth the wait and anticipation.

    highlights:

CHICKEN AND WAFFLES- fancier than my man Roscoe does it without being too pretentious with the fusion. chicken was lightly fried with the right amount of seasoning and the "syrup" was a sweet chili sauce that was light and flavorful and awesome

dog of the day- we had a spicy dog with candied jalapenos, red chilies, and swiss cheese. and yeah, it was as amazing as it sounds.
just a note though: the hot dogs are pretty small so definitely think about splitting a few things or ordering additional appetizers

collard greens- with a little balsamic. yummmm.

ambiance- I love that Trina's Starlite Lounge sounds like the name of a cheap strip club. and nothing says dive bar like a big ass lit up Miller High Life sign. who would have known such amazing food, service, and decor was hiding inside of this little place. a hidden gem no doubt.

    cons:
    not a damn thing

Pretty ideal neighborhood spot.  It looks like a divy hole in the wall from the street, but they make some of the best cocktails in the boston greater area.  It seems that whoever makes the drink menu has spent some serious time in New York, as their cocktails are on some famous menus.  The modern at trinas, for example is the signature martini at the modern bar room at MOMA, complete with cilantro infused gin and a tomato.

Love coming on a late night to get some top notch drinks and the hot dog special.

I went there with a friend to try its drinks. We ordered different cocktails and shared a little bit. Then we all felt not satisfied for us. Either too spicy or too salty.

The service and the environment is nice. But it cannot make up the drink.

    May not go there anymore~

This bar epitomizes my neighborhood. While I have little patience for hipsters - I love the bartenders here. The food is decent - but the bar is on a whole, other, level. A  solid four star place.

The fella and I pre-gamed at the Starlite on Friday night. I loved the atmosphere and will definitely return. We shared the cheese fries and each had a beer. The people watching is primo here.

The bar area was super busy. The seating area was better for intimate conversation, but the fella had to sit next to me so I could hear him.

It's dark, it's fun, decent cheese fries. Can't go wrong.

Dinner and drinks on a Saturday night here was a good pick. Prices are lower than most places in Cambridge for both the food and drinks. The crowd on a Saturday night is a mix of hipsters and 20 something professionals.

If you are going here just for drinks, cocktails are worth checking out. The beer selection is fairly limited but what they do have will please most people.

Oh cocktails, cocktails of majesty, cocktails of my dreams!

I've never had a bad cocktail at Trina's. The Gentleman used to be a favorite standby, though when I returned this month, I was really jonesing for a Rocking Chair. And you know what? Despite a year and a half away in which to build up the idyllic and flawless Trina's, Trina's did not disappoint!

My Rocking Chair--an enormous affair in a pint glass, which always leads me to gleefully exclaiming, "It comes in PINTS!" in my best Hobbit voice--was as delicious as I remember. Black tea infused bourbon, some mint... It's a unique cocktail that tastes almost like sweet tea with a punch, except not as gross as you might think because sweet tea is usually way too sweet. This isn't. This is just right.

I used to come here for girls' nights that were such a blast. The bartenders would always be fun, the service is prompt, and the prices are really reasonable. It's kind of a bummer that you have either take the rail and then transfer to a bus or have a semi long walk from Harvard station (back when I lived here, I'd bike, but that's not an option on a visit), but I think the relative less-than-perfect accessibility is what has kept this place from getting too swamped. It's always packed, but it seems like there's always just enough space to accommodate a few more people. I hope that never goes away.

TL;DR: I flew three thousand miles and wouldn't stop whining until I was here and slurping at my cocktail.

I have been working in kitchens my whole life and if ever I was to have my own place I would want it to be just like Trina's Starlite Lounge. The food is simple, very yummy comfort food that is not pretentious. You can get good, strong classic cocktails and creative twists on the classics. The best is the staff they are friendly, knowledgeable, and patient with those with dietary restrictions. I once went with two hard to feed/please people and the service was still amazing I love these people and I have a hard time not kicking them out of my kitchen so the friendly patient waitress who really knew her stuff really won my respect

I came here on a Friday night with two friends for drinks and dinner. We got quoted about an hour wait by the hostess but only waited about 45 minutes. We had a few drinks at the bar, which were all more than reasonably priced ($6 for a Pretty Things is something I rarely see) and way delicious. And the bartender was very friendly and made conversation with us, which in a bar that busy, kudos.

It went downhill when we sat down for dinner, as we waited about an hour for our food. I almost lost it when the girls who sat down next to us about 40 minutes into our "dinner" got their food-- I know some food takes longer so it's not all a function of "I came first and don't have my food!" but if they have food on the menu that takes 40-60 minutes to prep for customers, shit ain't right, you know? I called the waitress over and asked how much longer our food would be, and her face just turned to horror? panic? I don't know. She brought some sweet potato chips and dip on the house and our food would "be right out." If you ask me, I was all ready to leave  and get a falafel in Central Square had they not anchored me with the freebie chips-- I felt rude to just leave them on the table when it looked like a genuine flub from a waitress who was tending to an entire room of diners pretty much singlehandedly.

Anyway, the manager (owner? a guy in a hoodie) came and profusely apologized and said our food would be on the house and offered us a round of drinks. They also offered us pie for dessert! That was way more freebie than it would've taken to make us happy-- I'd been cool with just a free round of drinks. But in the end the whole meal was comped, which, yay! But also, moral dilemma because how much do we tip in a situation where the waitress clearly fucked up yet seemed very apologetic and the meal was comped? Eek.

The waitress was gracious enough to total the meal for me when I asked for tipping purposes, and we tipped her close to 40% of the would-be check. I hope she thought we were generous and sensitive to waitresses' struggles. Maybe they thought we were out to squeeze them dry after we waited forever for our food. Who knows.

Anyway, I'd come back and give it another shot. Top notch customer service after a fuck-up.

Oh, and the food was superb. So were the drinks.

After some serious teasing by the Miller High Life sign out front, I finally made it into Trina's Starlight Lounge. I went with a sizable group of friends on a Friday night and did not have to wait very long for a table, considering how packed the place was. The crowd did not consist of the extreme hipsters I had been warned of - pretty fun mix of people.

Between my friends and myself, I got to try almost every drink on the menu. Man, oh man, were they good. Even drinks I thought I wouldn't like, I found myself enjoying. They were all so creative and on point. After a few, I don't think I had the focused appreciation that I had when I walked in though. The food was perfect to drunk munch on. Corn dogs, Mac & Cheese, Chicken & Waffles: all perfect for the soul on a crazy Friday night.

The service was also out of this world. The bartenders were attentive, if not a little intense- but hey! it was a packed Friday night. Once we got a table, our server was fun, engaging and accommodating, until the very end of what I assume was a l-o-n-g shift.

Long story short: I loved every second I was at Trina's and live dangerously close to their wonderful establishment.

The reviews and television promo really led me to want to like this place. I went with friends and not to meet people so all of the negative hipster reviews didn't really influence my experience.

We ordered the wings, the turkey burger and the strawberry chicken over cous cous. The wings were probable the best part - and they were just above average. The turkey burger, although well seasoned, was small and lacked enough dressing to amp up the flavors. The accompanying macaroni salad lacked everything except for macaroni and mayo..because thats all it was. The strawberry chicken was a decent sized breast covered in goo and rested atop a heap of dry cous cous. The result was a bland mix of textures that didn't blend all that well. Chicken and cous cous can serve as a healthy alternative, but the sauce knocked it out of the health food section, therefore rendering suffering through the cous cous pointless.

The music was 5 stars, the service was 4 stars and the food was 2 stars.

I'm far from a hipster, but I'd consider going back just to order off their respectable beer menu and listen to the music.

I wish this place took reservations or at least did something about seating capacity because it gets really packed on weekend nights and that must be a fire hazard or something. You can be sure that this place is packed on Friday and Saturday nights, so leave the bulky purses, long umbrellas, ski poles and other awkard items at home and be prepared to hover around the bar in hopes of ordering a drink in the next ten minutes. Trust me, it's worth the wait. The cocktails are tasty and well-made, though the standing-room only thing can make it a bit difficult for this to be the sole destination for the evening.

Dinner was delicious; I could eat their cornbread forever and be satisfied. I really enjoyed my portabello sandwich and Pete's cassoulet was flavorful, just how you like it. I appreciate the casual bon-homie aesthetic of the place, and the bathroom is really funky with all sorts of old-fashioned advertisements. I would definitely opt to come here on a weeknight again, or try out their sports-bar side next door.

    Ah. This place is fantastic.

This place is THE place for comfort food with a twist.

I loved the decor, the staff was great, and it's just a really nice spot for a good dinner/lunch with some drinks (especially if you're a beer geek).

Starlite burger is a must! o and make sure to load up your fries.

What? Good food at a reasonable price? A unique drink menu and solid beer selection? Personable servers and bartenders? Someone took the time to actually create an ambiance that isn't generic? The decor isn't just "sterile modern" or a swathe of IKEA furniture?

    Hipster. HIPSTER.

If this is hipster, and hipster is a bad thing, then I'll still take it. See you suckers when I walk by [MOST OTHER RESTAURANTS/BARS IN BOSTON] and glance in the window at your overpriced, mediocre food and shitty service.

    :D

Totally random, but the best interaction I've had with a server here was with an incredibly pregnant woman who was very adamant that I NEEDED to GET THE CHOCOLATE CAKE. IT'S AMAZING.
    Very pushy.
...then she realized that it was SHE who was craving the chocolate cake... and curly fries...

One of my favorite places to go for beers and snacks. The menu is delicious but most of it is so rich that you'd pop a coronary trying to finish your dinner.

Trina's is not subtle about its hipster vibe. See: the giant Miller High Life sign out front; the 1950s-style refrigerator covered in Fisher Price alphabet magnets in the middle of the bar/lounge area.

That's OK, though. Trina's is so over-the-top hipster that it's almost a caricature of itself, which makes me less afraid that I'll be turned away at the door because I don't know the secret handshake.

In addition to being a cool place to hang out, Trina's has cool things to eat and drink. The mac and cheese is topped with Ritz cracker crumbs. There are chicken and waffles to be had. I can't really tell you how the BBQ sweet potato chips were; I inhaled them too quickly to fully taste them.

You can get unusual things like strawberry gazpacho, in addition to the requisite pork belly menu selection. They have good beers on tap, like Pretty Things Jack D'Or and Clown Shoes Clementine.

I don't know who Trina is, but I bet if I met her, I'd like her.

You ever have one of those places that just fits every mood and has a universal appropriateness (you can go after painting a house or after closing a large client and not feel over or underdressed)?  Same with the food; Beer and Mac 'N Cheese?  Cocktail and piece of fish? Drinks only?  Trina's has it.  Basically, the atmosphere and offerings are awesome.

And man oh man.  I have never met a nicer waitstaff.  Do they drug you guys there?  They must.   You are all soo...happy.  It's like you enjoy coming to work!  That's awesome!  I feel the love and send it right back at you.

I've been about 5 times now for food.  A few times for drinks...can't count...whoops.  The food is always great.  I think my favorites have been Mac 'N Cheese, baked Haddock, curried cauliflower, and of course a solid burger.

The drinks are always great too, and they have whatever you need...I can go from a fistful of dollars (great cocktail using locally distilled whiskey), to an old man something or other (bourbon, bourbon, and more bourbon, plus some bitters, ginger mash, a bunch of other delicious gucci stuff), to a bottle of high life.  Liquor before beer...

Not sure what else needs to be said.  Prices are reasonable and you are right in Inman so there's a plethora of things nearby.  The owners are a cool couple who actually work there, pouring beers, chatting with customers.

    Well done guys.

    So, about this turkey burger.

First, the waiter said that it came with a side of "old school mac n' cheese," however it was actually served with macaroni salad - mayo-drenched pasta, with not a shred of cheese to be found. BIG, disappointing difference! :-(

Next, the burger itself was nearly tasteless despite its claims of "pineapple salsa, sriracha ranch, avocado, and cheese." All that my palette sensed was grease...

Lastly, and very unfortunately, the hefty wad of meat was couched in what appeared to be a supermarket hamburger roll. By the time I picked the thing up, the bottom piece had already completely disintegrated into mush.

I wish I had gotten the black bean burger at Highland Kitchen instead!

Quaint. Low Key. Fun. Intimate. Entertaining. Affordable. Conveniently Located.

What Starlite is good for:  Drinks after a second date.
What Starlite is NOT good for:  A night out with a large group of people.

This place is a classy little piano bar on Beacon Street downtown.  The atmosphere is conducive to a romantic evening, the service is splendid, the drinks are reasonably priced and pretty strong.  So yes, Yelp, "Yay! I'm a fan."

Don't be misled by the name or the blacked-out exterior- this is NOT a strip club. Instead, it is a DELICIOUS retro-ish comfort food oasis. Here's what I have tasted to this point:

-fried chicken and waffles with red pepper syrup- awesome.

-'southern lust' pulled pork barbeque club-astonishingly awesome.

-cornbread- because of my southern roots, I feel as if I am an authority on cornbread, and this was some of the best I've had.

-sweet potato and bacon hash- in spite of my southern roots, I do NOT subscribe to Paula Deen's bacon-makes-it-better philosophy. But somehow, when mixed and grilled with sweet potatoes, I'm in love with this side.

    please go here. please.

My friends and I had just taken the long drive from Ohio into Boston for an extended weekend and desperately needed late night dinner and a beer. I was told that the closest place from where we randomly got off of on the bus from our hotel was Trina's Starlite Lounge. So, we headed in there.

Right off the bat, this place was hipster heaven. I don't feel that anyone was judging me, but I've decided in this review to provide a quality review from my perspective and as a Person Who Blames Hipsters For His/Her Unhappiness.

We were seated at a booth, and definitely needed beers. We looked over the menu, and were curious to find that they were offering a Bucket of Ponies. None of us at the table knew what a pony was. Rather than check on the Internet as to what it could be, we decided to take the risk and get it thinking that it would be a good deal compared to a 12 oz. Bottle which was $3 a piece minimum. For $11, the bucket was five 7 oz. Miller High Lifes. First, you may criticize me for not knowing what a pony is, and ridicule me for being less of a beer drinker, but I'm sorry. I'm from Ohio. The word "pony" is not in our dictionary. We pound beers to a point that the 7 oz. beer is just plain unacceptable and illogical.

Person Who Blames Hipsters for His/Her Unhappiness: Why did these hipsters have to come along and promote 7 oz. Beers? Oh, I'm sure it's waaaaay more cute or trendy to just have a little beer. Whatever. I'm sure it's nothing compared to whatever high-end craft beer is on their mind that they want to talk my ear off about.

I must say that this restaurant appears to be owned by the Miller Brewing Company. I've never seen so many signs for Miller High Life in one area. I don't think Miller even has that many signs at their breweries.

Person Who Blames Hipsters for His/Her Unhappiness: In college, Miller High Life was totally the cheap beer that I would buy! It was $5.49 for a 12-pack of bottles. Then, this damn hipster movement came along, and everybody started loving Pabst and now they started loving High Life, and all of a sudden, it's $7.49 for a 12-pack. What the hell?! I might as well buy Miller Lite now. Thanks, Hipsters!

Our service was sufficient. She did a good job and was kind. She did, however, wear a Chicago White Sox hat, which was a bit odd to me given we were in Boston.

Person Who Blames Hipsters for His/Her Unhappiness: There's no way this server is from Chicago! She's wearing a 1970s Chicago White Sox logo hat? Come on! I bet you she doesn't even watch baseball! She just bought whatever hat looked cool and that she could cock to the side and matched well with her ironic T-shirt and tight jeans!

I ended up ordering their Macaroni & Cheese. It hit the spot. It was very good, and the Ritz Crackers on top of it were a nice touch that surprisingly complimented the dish very well.

Person Who Blames Hipsters for His/Her Unhappiness: Why do these hipsters with their bar/restaurants always have to make things different? When I want mac and cheese, I want mac and cheese! They always throw weird things in a meal to make it unique. Also, I'm not vegan! And, who cares about being organic and green? I'm hungry!

All in all, Trina's was a good spot for what we needed: food and beer, and was a nice touch for our first night in Boston.

Person Who Blames Hipsters for His/Her Unhappiness: I can't believe I'm spending $3 on a bottle of Miller High Life! How much more indie Pitchfork whatever that is music can they play here? Ahhhhh!

I really liked Trina's. The dining room portion looks like a 50's diner with a little 2012 hipster twist. They even advertised "air conditioning" on the sign outside. Pretty cute!

What I loved the most about the aesthetic is that upon walking in you're hit with some serious slow jams from the 1950's. Hell yes I'd like to sway to "Unforgettable" while I eat my pulled pork sandwich.

Speaking of pulled pork, I ordered the Southern Lust Club (smoked pulled pork, applewood smoked bacon, NY cheddar, lettuce, tomato, home-made pickles, BBQ sauce). It was really delicious and came with a little side of macaroni salad. My boyfriend ordered the baked haddock which sat upon a huge batch of sweet potato and green onion hash. He loved it. We also split a giant hunk of buttery cornbread. Mmmm.

If Inman wasn't so dang far away I'd come here more often!

They have new stuff on the menu!  The turkey burger is yummy, and the baked haddock is really simple and has become my new favorite go-to item.  Camille and Jemma (Gemma?) are usually the ones waiting on us, and they are FANTASTIC!

Again, I can't stress enough how I love their cheese fries with gravy, though I've not been ordering it as often.  Hmm.  Anna, Carla's daughter who works at the Toast, digs their veggie plate (choose three veggie sides, and it comes with cornbread).  Anna's roommate, who also works at the Toast, goes to the Monday industry brunch almost every week.  I'm telling you, this is one of the the places to be.

I really wanted to like Trina's because of all the rave reviews. I've heard a lot of great things about the cool atmosphere and the creative cocktails. For me, the agenda was food; more specifically, I was on a mission to try the chicken and waffles, a dish that one is hard-pressed to find in Boston. (I know it's not the most complex thing to whip up, but I for one own neither waffle maker nor deep fryer, which is good on my hips, but not for my lips.)

I've been here twice, and both times have just been A-OK. The first time we came for drinks, which were really good! Service, on the other hand, was not. The hostess was kind of rude and even snapped at me when I accidentally sat at a table reserved for dining. Well excuuuse me for being lazy and wanting to rest my ass on the first chair I see.

The second time I came for my beloved chicken and waffles. It was a Friday night and the place was hustlin'. I realize you can't expect top-notch service on a weekend, but our waiter might as well have been under Harry Potter's magical invisibility cape all evening. We waited 10-15 minutes after we were seated just to get some water. She took our orders and we never saw her again. Eh. The chicken and waffles were alright - chicken decently crispy, waffles kind of dry, no butter served with the meal, the pepper syrup a nice touch. I would highly recommend The Biltmore in Newton for a superior dish.

The drinks are great, and the atmosphere is pretty cool - I'll be back at an off-peak time to give this place another shot.

    Service 5/10
    Atmosphere 10/10
    Food 6/10
    Drinks 10/10
