We stayed here for 3 nights in June 2102, for a family reunion. Â The staff was all VERY nice, friendly, and accommodating. Â This is our 2nd family reunion here. Â The food is OK, but the service was even better. Â The Inn itself is also just OK - the rooms are a bit worn and a little dirty (the chairs), but you get what you pay for - the rooms rates we paid were $82- $92 / night. Â The front lobby doors are really dirty and the paint is worn, and the elevator creaked and groaned for 2 days and broke down on the 3rd day. Â Be aware that the rooms are grouped by type, so our room with 1 Q was way down the hall from our room with 2 Q, but we were next to a 2 D room. Â Also the King rooms are on the 3rd floor away from the other types, in our experience. Â
However, the area is SO beautiful and the hiking choices are all spectacular  (we did hikes #3, #6, #9).  The suspension bridge over the river/creek was really fun, and there is a lot of history here.  There is lots to do: horse back riding, kayaking & canoeing, swimming in 2 pools, tennis, basketball, a nature center, etc.  We rented the Canyon Shelter for a day and that worked out really well EXCEPT there is NO trash service in the park - you MUST drive out with your trash which takes up a lot of room in your vehicle. Â
We will be back.
We went for breakfast and it was good. I had the skillet, and it was as good as a skillet gets. I had the gravy on the side so I could put on as much as I wanted. My wife had the short stack and they where average.
We got to the inn at 4:30 on Mothers Day and the last setting was at 4:00 for diner. Â Which seemed odd. We ended up in Rockville to eat which was fair at best.
We ate here last year for Easter Brunch. I found mold on the crust of my sugar cream pie which was store bought. And the manager was not happy about comping my meal and gave ridicules excuses for her kitchens lack of QC. Â I've never been impressed with the food at any of Indiana's state park inns, but after that I will never, never try them again. As a Quality Control Lab Tech that's just unforgivable!!!
Take a pic-nic basket and enjoy the scenery at the parks but avoid the food at the inns at all costs!!!
Good fried chicken and decent food all the way around...sometimes kind of makes you feel like you are eating in a hospital or cafeteria of some sort, though, so I can't give more than 3 stars. Â In all honesty, it is not that bad, though so try it out! The scenery in this area is amazing, so work up an appetite after hiking and come in and get some decent country cooking!
