Solid little pizza joint very close to the trail and just off the main "tourist" (if you can call it that...) pedestrian street of Cumberland. They had a good lunchtime deal on pizza ($5.99 for two slices with 1 topping and a drink) but the pizza was reheated (and not all that hot) and the toppings just sort of tossed on there.
My boyfriend got the California burger and fries and the plate was really piled high with food.
The decor was cute and old-timey for a bar, but it felt like a nice, homey little joint. I wouldn't rush back, but it got the job done when we were hungry for lunch.
We stopped at Uncle Jacks on a bike trip from Pittsburgh to DC. Â To say it was the pleasantest surprise of the trip is an understatement. Â
Sure, we were exhausted and hungry, but the deep dish pizza was good. Â The ingredients were fresh, the dough was decent (if a bit airy and soft), and the pie came together quite nicely. Â More amazing was the beer selection - a host of microbrews (we were thrilled to find an old favorite, Loose Cannon IPA from Clipper City in Baltimore - a short ride down the old railway from Cumberland - on tap, along with a few other top selections). Â The service was friendly and efficient, too.
But here's were the evening begins to defy belief: the price. Â For the Thursday special, we got a pitcher of great beer and a nice pizza (large, no less - we had enough for lunch the next day) for a mere $12. Â Five Stars!!
