My boyfniend and I were headed north to Lake Sonoma for a camping trip when my car broke down on the 101, just shy of Petaluma. After getting it towed to a nearby repair shop, my boyfriend and I were stranded in downtown Petaluma while we waited for our ride home. We wandered into this store while trying to kill some time.

We really liked the vibe of this place, so we decided to buy a bottle and hang out there while sipping on his wine. We had a fantastic time. The wine was great. Jason (owner) and Augustus (owner's long-time friend) were a blast to hang out with.

After we finished the bottle and our ride showed up, Jason recommended his favorite restaurant to us for dinner.

I'll DEFINITELY be back. I just wish this place were closer to home so I could come here more often!

We came upon this place late one evening and decided to try something new. We tasted some wine and even some beers. They have a good selection and they even prepare food there though we didn't try any. It was a nice place to also enjoy a conversation with others who are also winding down their evening.  We had a good time. We'll be back

A and I were in Petaluma downtown for dinner at Cucina Paradiso, and after getting denied by the sold out showing of Avengers, we wandered a bit for something low key. Vine & Barrel pretty much fit the bill :)

We're by NO means wine connoisseurs or even enthusiasts, but we figured we were in wine country so we each tried a glass. I went with a Chilean red and he went with a Greek pinot noir. It made sense why his was more expensive than mine--but that's the extent to which I will comment on the wine.

Vine & Barrel is this wine shop that has a bit of a nook in the back with a couple chalkboards that sell by the glass. It was a Friday night, nothing too busy in quaint little Petaluma, but there were some people there watching TV, a couple enjoying a bottle of prosecco, and the two of us. I enjoyed that even at our low-level wine drinking we were able to have a good time without feeling too self-conscious of our lack of wine knowledge. Cheers to Vine and Barrel for its non-snootiness!

I like the beer. I like pints of beer. I like the low key profile and interesting local people to shoot the breeze with.

The wine selection is good. Prices are in the upper retail spectrum because it's not cheap renting a large building downtown in Petaluma.

Those who have complained about high prices need to get real. If you purchase a bottle of wine from an on-line retailer that is oxidized or corked, you can't return and get compensated instantly.

The high price retail comes with service. If you frequently come in for a glass of wine and a cheese platter you might get more generous portions each time...

You can't get that with large on-line retailers.

We passed through Petaluma en route to wine country, unsure at the time exactly where we would stop to set up HQ for our vacation. We stopped in for some wine and cheese and found Jason running the store and wine bar by himself at the time.

Jason proved to be an amazing resource for references in the area. Some of his recommendations turned out to be the best experiences of our trip. He is a wealth of knowledge about the area, so use him as a resource if that's your destination.

This place is a combination wine shop and wine bar, with a very laid back atmosphere. It's a great spot for pick-up conversations with strangers, which for us was kind of the point of our trip.

I'd recommend this place to anyone.

Jason offers great wine, great conversation and more cheese than any one human should eat.

Go, go, GO to this cozy and fun shop. Buy wine. Eat cheese. Be happy.

Tasty bar snacks - I would highly recommend the petite fondue - so good!!!!  It's a quaint little place for a relaxing, casual drink. Excellent service, huge wine selection, tasty snacks, great prices, casual atmosphere. Overall a fantastic experience.

Jason has an amazing array of wines from budget $10 and under to some amazing vitnatages.  Stop using your safeway clerk as your Sommelier and check out this shop.

Just tell Jason what yoiur having and your price range and he will pick out an amazing wine for you.

Nice wine bar to sit and sampel some great wines and beers and some great food and Appetizers as well.

Check it out ou wont' be sorry.  Not hard to find right on Petaluma BLVD downtown.

Those of us who appreciate fine wines and good company enjoy nothing better than time spent at Vine and Barrel.  Not only is there a spectacular selection of wines to choose from at prices ranging from reasonable to flat out bargain, Jason knows how to throw a party.  Anyone who has attended his semi-monthly events has had an experience that involves tasting of fabulous vino, excellent foodstuffs and best of all, great conversation and education about wine.  The shop is located in downtown Petaluma on Main St. (otherwise known as Petaluma Blvd.) and I often wander in while shopping just to have a glass or two and to bend the proprietor's ear.  He's a great host.  Did I mention the wines are amazing?  From the French to the Argentinian to the Spanish to the Californian, it's all here.  There's really no reason to buy wine anywhere else.  It's worth a visit.  Then you'll keep coming back.  Get thee to V&B!

Great wines, great prices.  Nice beer on tap!  I enjoyed a nice ale while my wife enjoyed a great chard.  We chatted with Jason and had a great time.  I stop by every time we go through Petaluma to the coast.

People like to think that they know which wine is good, and some people truly do.  However, for the rest of us, we want good wine for good value and the best way to find that is to have the right kind of person, with the right attitude and sincerity, to help us out.  I've been to Vine and Barrel numerous times and have consistently been impressed with the selection, the attention to detail and the focused, caring attention of the proprietor.  There are very few wine shops in the bay area where you can receive such high quality, personal attention that leaves you feeling like you got a great deal on some fantastic wine.  I will shop at this location anytime I'm in Petaluma, which by the way is a fantastic little town to visit and browse the streets.

I walked into this place and was instantly comfortable and at home.  Never has there been such a friendly wine establishment as Vine and Barrel.  Jason is extremely knowlegeable and the food is pretty good as well.  I am so glad the hostess at Cucina Paradiso recommended them while waited for our table.  I noticed from his website that he does some very cool events as well.  You'll see me at the Italian Tasting event next year!

Vine & Barrel is one of those gems in Petaluma. Jason is outgoing and very helpful. The selection of wines that Jason carries in his shop is really something and the wine prices are very fair.  If you are lucky, you will sign up for one of the special events that are put on regularly in this store. Help support Vine & Barrel buy purchasing your wine in his shop instead of the large grocery stores.  Jason gives great recommendations and knows his wines!

Who knew in my little home town of Petaluma that I would get to experience one of the best wine tastings I had ever been to?  For the weekend, I brought my wife home to visit my parents and was invited in off the street by  a very friendly wine steward.  Inside, were 27 wineries pouring for his annual French event.  Spectacular, to say the least.  The wine was amazing - a thorough array of all that France has to offer........and the food to pair was great, as well.  Full Tapas Bar with charcuterie and imported cheeses.  -Great find!

This wine shop was exactly what I was looking for- they are flooded with wines from all over the world.  The prices were reasonable and the speakeasy bar in the back is super-cool.  I got myself a glass of wine and sipped while I shopped.  I am acquainted with the senior wine steward, but I did not see him there.  However, the girl that assisted me was extremely knowledgably and friendly.  I will definitely be back for the tapas menu as I did not have time to pair.
I highly recommend this place for all wine enthusiasts-

So I can not say enough wonderful things about this place!!! I love it!
Jason is amazing and is always so helpful with suggestions and advice.
I feel as if I have already learned so much about wine and pairing in the short time that I have discovered this gem of a place.
Not only is there an amazing selection of wines for purchase, the wine bar is a great place to hang out, drink delicious wine or beer and snack on amazing tapas.
Apparently they offer the "best tuna melt ever', but I have yet to try it.
If you are over the bar scene downtown, but would still like to have a few drinks with friends, I highly recommend this as an alternative to McNears or other bars downtown.
All I know, is that I love this place. And the vibe is so much better than the generic wine bar located in the Theater District!
    You will not be disappointed.

I was walking home from the gym and stubbled across a Zin Fest at Vine and Barrel!  The employees made me feel SO welcome, gym clothes and all lol, and I got to try a plethora of Zins for only $30!  Had some great conversations and some wonderful vino!  Definitely going back for my wine needs :)

    This place is a rip-off.
I bought a bottle of wine there, and then checked its price online.  I was horrified to see I could have gotten it for a third of what I paid in the store.
So much for trying to do the right thing and shop locally!
    You've been warned....

Jason is a great guy.  A real people person.  Every time I go in there, he knows how to relate to me and he always picks out something amazing. Ill tell him what Im having for dinner and he picks out the perfect bottle for us.
He is really laid back about wine and he doesnt make you feel like you dont know what you are talking about of you dont have a fancy pallet.  He has wine tastings once a month and its a way to enjoy your community a bit more.  You should check it out

Jason is really creative. He's got this great old vintage upright piano right there next to his vintage wine. His wine tasting events are to die for. Great place to visit and get really good deals.

My friends and I were lured into this wine shop by the "30 wines for under $10" sign outside.  Jason, the owner, was super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and steered us to some great buys, even though he was busily setting up for a wine tasting in an hour.  He gave us a discount even though we couldn't attend the tasting. Lots of local (think Petaluma) wines as well as great wines from around the globe.  I signed up for his newsletter- he has many cool tastings.  If you're in Petaluma - or driving through - stop by and support a great local business.
