After five visits, probably won't be back. Variance in service each time, but what was consistent was the wait staff who pretty much suck. And the dress code needs help. Not to be personal, but a 180-200 lb Hostess wears a mini-dress and when bending over to grab menus exposes a butt cheek! That's nothing anyone needs to see. Most hostesses were friendly but a couple don't even acknowledge you when you come in or when you leave.
Forget about sitting at a high top, one time waited almost 20 minutes before we could even get a beer. I normally wouldn't wait and just go to bar to order but I decided to do a stress test to see how bad it could get. Then the food they delivered which took 40 minutes from when we first walked in, was completely wrong. I ordered chicken sandwich and they brought out something like pulled pork.
Last night was probably our last visit. Three bar tenders - one standing around doing nothing, one serving waitresses but ignoring bar patrons and one serving all the bar patrons-she is the only one worthy of a tip. Â We were literally 4 seats from this guy who stood at the end of the bar and I never even saw him pour a drink. We got menus and after stacking them back up indicating we were ready, he nodded up and looked at use 4 times and then just looked back down. I finally made some comment like " I think we've had enough time..." his answer " Oh you're ready to order".....(No I just like interupting ignorant bar tenders). In fact, he never even refilled us. The short blonde who we became familiar with on other visits came over to talk and got us refilled, while this guy just stood there and watched. The only food I really liked was the buffalo fries, but they probably have 2,000 calories. Most stuff greasy fried. Don't know about burgers.
I will also second the comment below about the manager coming through randomly and switching all the channels. We asked the bartender to switch it to a red sox game and within 10 minutes he was back switching it to ESPN. This A_hole is definintely on a power trip. Too bad, because this location is a lot closer than the lexington site. not that that one is any better since they fired their best bar tender.......
Our Waxy days are over......
Let's get this out of the way first off: Don't bother with this place.
A friend and I stopped in for drinks and sat at the bar. The female bartender was very friendly and welcoming. The male working with her couldn't have cared less about helping anyone. We had been there a while and really enjoyed the interaction with the female bartender. At one point, in a level of voice that everyone at our end of the bar could hear, the male bartender said to the female bartender, "no wonder you're a XXXX!!". Let's just say the expletive deleted started with the letter "C". I couldn't believe my ears, and the six or so people near us also heard it and commented among themselves.
So, I filled out the form on the company's website. I searched in vain for an email address but couldn't find one. I also couldn't find an address to which to send a snail mail to the corporate offices. None found. So, I waited to hear back from management at that particular Waxy's. It's been six weeks and I have yet to hear anything back.
So, in summary:
Terrible service
Rude staff (except the one female bartender who was very nice)
Loud and obnoxious atmosphere
Again, don't go to this Waxy's. It's one of the most horrible restaurant experiences I've had in years.
Attached to A Best Western, looks like a local place with a good crowd. Â Pool Tables a plus. Â Great atmosphere, good food, not great, but good for a bar. Â Great watering hole, wouldn't make it a regular for dining! Â Wait staff great, bartenders good! Â Grab some friends and make it a Waxy Night!
Review Source:The first time we came here just for drinks and they mixed up our tab and over charged us. It took about a month to get a refund. We tried going here for dinner last night and it is unbelievable loud in there!! The acoustics are awful. We got sat right away but no one ever came to our table. After about 10 minutes of not being able to hear myself think... We walked out.
Review Source:Your average, run of the mill, cookie cutter fake Irish pub, with all the 10 dollar Guinness pin ups that you see in home bars. Drinks are fairly reasonably priced, and it is the only real pub in the area. However, the waitstaff and the bartenders are horrendously rude. The bar is oversized for the room so there is very little room for people to walk. The waitstaff will pile through the crowd like they think they are Corey Dillon or something. They don't say "excuse me" just scram "watch out" as they do their best offensive lineman move in just opening up a lane. All this being said, a huge upgrade over Spuds, but then again, hard to downgrade from that. They need to be friendlier and a little more customer service based, then they will have a damn good bar. Until then, I think I'd rather just go up to Salem or Boston.
Review Source:WARNING:  Do not be fooled by the renovations;  for everything that this place has gained appearance wise, it has sacrificed customer service.  If you want to drink among an obnoxiously loud younger crowd and battle for the attention of apathetic bartenders, by all means check out Waxy's. but  you have been warned.
First experience here I arrived around last call for a drink. Â Friday night was jammed, but the bartender recognized me and got me a beer, so I was happy enough. Â Happy until 2 sips into my beer, a middle aged balding-ish man with glasses did a lap around the bar and informed customers, including myself, "Finish up, I'm kicking everyone out in ten minutes." Â Incredible. Â I understand there's closing time, but to make paying customers who have just been served feel uncomfortable is inexcusable.
Second experience was a non-experience; Â came in on a Thursday night around 11:45. Â Different bartender this time, short, middle-aged female, dark hair pulled up in the back with 2 bangs in the front and a single stud earring in the top of one ear. Â Pulled up to the bar, which was no completely overrun, and found the bartender doing laps around the bar and making every effort to appear busy moving stuff around, pouring drinks, and avoid all eye contact with customers. Â After 15 minutes of watching the charade and trying both vocally and visually to make contact with the bartender, she finally noticed me and the gentleman standing next to me in the same position, only to tell us that she gave last call and couldn't serve us. Â Funny, Â I just watched her pour drinks; good to know that the bartenders here care more about getting out of work than serving customers.
Third experience was the most enfuriating. Â Came here at noon on a Sunday to watch an FA cup quarterfinal match between Chelsea and Manchester United. Â I was in the area and I was sure that the place had Fox Soccer channel, so I came more out of necessity. Â The place was quiet, with another group of guys at the bar to watch the same game. Â There were 2 bartenders on. Â The same middle aged female bartender who had ignored me before and still didn't bother to give her name, and Jess, a younger, pleasant bartender who smiled, introduced herself, and acted pleasant, which was a refreshing change. Â Jess actually did a great job and was a stark contrast to the general lack of concern for customer service I have experienced at Waxy's; her disgruntled co-worker, on the other hand, vocalized her many gripes about life with no concern for customers around her. Â How inviting. Â Initially, I had to beg to get the sound for the game on, but Jess was able to accommodate me. Â That is, until the balding-ish man with glasses arrived around 70 minutes into the game and immediately changed all the channels. Â At this point, I discovered this was the General Manager, and I was informed it is against his policy. Â I asked to speak with the GM, and after 5 minutes of having a news channel on, he scuffled around the bar changing the channel back, with no sound this time, his back to customers and making no effort to speak with me. Â Completely ignored me. Â I was told he must be busy, and did not have time to talk to customers. Â Funny, when he has to tell guests they are being kicked out, he has time. Â When a guest's experience is in question, not the case. Â How this guy got a job in the hospitality industry is mystifying. Â
After learning that the apathy for customer service extends all the way to this bar's GM, I have no hope that this place will ever fulfill the potential of its beautifully renovated interior. Â And after learning that it's policy to play elevator music instead of sound during games, I certainly will not be watching any games here, even if the location is convenient. Â If you are going out to get drunk and don't care about the service you receive, Waxy's might be for you, but be aware police have been known to chalk tires in the parking lot, so you would be better off walking. Â If you want any sort of a hospitality pub experience, just RUN!
I went to waxys in woburn the hostess was great spoke to Gina on the phone 3 times to book the game room. Allie was a sweetie she got us all settled in and brought my guest straight to the room for me. The waitress was PERFECT was quick, friendly  and stayed on task! The manager should just let the girls flow their great at what they do ! Esp the hostess and waitstaff are on key be back soon
Review Source:I like the set up of this place, but that's about it. Actually, the guy bar tender was nice and prompt with service. I had the hot wings,( but they were very dried out) and a glass of wine. I drink Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio, in the store you can get this wine for 19.99 a bottle. This friggen place charges 18 dollars per glass! They don't even charge that much in Boston. This is Woburn Waxy!!! Seriously, they have a lot of balls charging that much for a glass. Because of this, my friends and I will never go there again. I thought it was an error on the bill. What a joke this place is! The manager needs to get his head out of his a** !!!!!!!!!!
Review Source:Went to this restaurant after getting in late to the hotel connected to it from a delayed flight. Walking in, I immediately wanted to cover my ears, because the noise was so loud. The restaurant basically turns into a bar for people 21-35 and there isn't room to walk to get to a table. There was a band playing, and between the band and the people, the noise was unbearable. However, the band was actually pretty good. The food was mediocre. Nothing to rave about. Service was pretty quick. I might want to try this place again someday - most likely for lunch though, when it's quieter.
Review Source:Came in on a Saturday for lunch- I have fond memories of Waxys from London- when we arrived about 10 ppl working/ jus opened at 11am- the older blonde woman at the bar seemed to be the mgr- when no one was at the host stand we sat at a high boy by the bar and she scolded us that its not free seating ' for next time'-- OK? Let me go back to the entrance.
She was on her cell at the bar, running around so intensely when it wasn't busy. Bossing ppl around- I was stressed just being around her-cool place, I feel bad for her employees.
Food was great!! Lunch menu limited- would recommend for food not atmosphere. Lastly, 2 waitresses serving us was weird- just a 2 top
I went there a few weeks ago for lunch.  I thought the food was good, but overpriced.  I had the fish and chips and enjoyed them, but later that night I went to emerald rose and had their fish  and chips- I thought it would be a good to do a same day comparison of the same menu item- for approximately the same price, Emerald Rosie's had a lot more fish and less batter.  Also, when we were there (about a week since the last snowfall), not all of the wheelchair ramps were cleared.  They jumped right on this issue when I brought it to their attention, but I think that they shudder know better and I shouldn't have had to mention it.  Lastly, the service was just okay.
Review Source:Pure chaos. First walked in to a busy restaurant and was prepared to wait. After a long wait at the hostess station we were told it would be 30 minutes and given a buzzer. Â After an hour buzzer went off gave to hostess and she said there are dirty tables and then we will seat you. We wait and wait and wait by the hostess after giving her the buzzer another 15-20 min. Â After looking at her list we were skipped over us and another 7 parties were seated after our buzzer went off. Â She appoligized and then sat us right by the busy hostess station. Â Waitress came over quick and took our order. Â Food also came fast except for the salad I ordered and it never came. Â We both order corned beef and cabbage. Â It was okay but sliced thin and we prefer thick slices. Â Very disappointed.
Review Source:Atmosphere was nice. Â The bar is huge with lots to choose from on tap. The place is clean. The service was good; Â our server was very attentive and friendly.
I gave three stars because of the food. The portions are big, but the quality was lacking. The meatloaf was dry, and was mostly bread crumbs.
The ravioli was also a little dry in the middle. Â Ironic because it was doused in a very watered down cream sauce; the dish looked more like a bowl of soup.
Slightly frustrating that the online menu is different from the one in the restaurant.
Waxy seems to have a lot of potential. Â I'd go back for a few beers and apps. Â Hopefully they can improve the quality of some of the entrees.
