Firstly going to jump onto the bandwagon and make fun of the business name. Whirled Pies? Gah. It took me over a year to stop in because I was convinced that any establishment with such a corny name would serve similarly ill-contrived pizza. (Whatttt? I said it but you were thinking it. =0)
Anyway, I'm glad that I swallowed my prejudices and stopped by. I love Whirled Pies' Happy Hour! For $1/slice (and 25 cents for any topping you could dream up) you receive fresh pies rolled & baked on the spot. I ordered slices with buttery mozzarella, roasted garlic, pesto, garlic cream, pulled pork & scatterings of fresh basil on top. Amazing. Just the fact that you can dictate a different set of toppings on every single pizza slice is amazing.
The pizzas aren't greasy at all, and leave you feeling well fed & nourished. I also had the clam chowder, which was more of a fresh clam & potato herb soup... props on the creative liberties! It was so much better than a traditional dairy-rich clam chowder.
Whirled Pies reminds me of some of my favorite carb/coffee haunts in Berkeley. I love the family-friendly, community oriented atmosphere so much that the name is... starting to grow on me...
But only a little.
Bottom Line: Happy Hour Greatness!
