The Winsor House has recently changed ownership and, wow, what a difference! Being one of just a few restaurants/bars in Duxbury, the old owners clearly took for granted the captive audience. This was apparent in both the mediocre food and hit or miss service. The new owners have raised the bar significantly, renovating the building and the grounds while maintaining the quaintness and charm of the property. The food is great. I have tried the fish & chips, the chowder, the chicken wings, and the mussels. All top notch. The service is friendly and present without being too overbearing and the atmosphere is both relaxing and inviting. I have dined in the tavern and on the new patio. I look forward to classing it up in the gorgeous main dining room soon. If you haven't been in a while, definitely go check it out. A Duxbury landmark has finally been given the care and attention it deserves!

The bar and the fireplace is the gem here. Good draft selection. A great place to go with a couple of friends, but beware, it can be a bit on the small side for larger groups. Have eaten there a few times and the food is good, but a bit on the pricier side.

My friends and I had to wait quite a while for the waitress to come over to our
table. She apologized and told us she was the only waitress and bartender working that night. We all ordered the steak and two of us had to send it back to have it cooked a little more. It came out okay and it was just like we liked it. The dinner menu was overpriced for what you get.

After the waiting the service was good and the waitress was very pleasant. We also asked her to put the heat on because it was very chilly there and it never came on.

Overall I will have to give this place 3 Stars for the food.

This is a secret gem. The food is great. I haven't had a bad meal here..they even make real, authentic, indian food on occasion (the owners wife lived in India for 10 years).

    Plus..character...character...character.

Nothing to write home about. It has its ups and downs. The pub menu is well priced and includes some good options. The normal dinner menu is overpriced and the food does not live up to how much you are paying for it.

The atmosphere is nice (old New England and reminds me of the opening scene from Moby Dick) but not a place to go watch a game. The service is okay.

You never know what type of crowd you are going to get when you walk in the door. For the most part it attracts a crowd of 50+. The only reason i still go is because I live close by and is not a bad place to go after 9 pm with friends if you have nothing else to do.

I would say this is at best three stars. even in the most beautiful of settings (Duxbury ,MA) this place still has an identity conflict. Are they trying to be fancy and proper? or just plain boring? hopefully you will decide to hit the bar before you hit the menu:otherwise it will be a long time waiting to get your drink .

Going out of business I hear.

I've had some good meals here, and like the homey atmosphere. If I still drank it'd still be solvent.

ADDENDUM: 12-31-08 The owner wrote me to say they are not going out of business. I guess it's a local rumor. Maybe I'll eat there this trip. I still won't drink there though.
