I have been to wood n tap many many times. The reason I go back is I like their food. Nothing fancy just standard American bar & grill and I am obsessed with their softies a.k.a pretzels! But unfortunately their service almost always leaves something to be desired. Only once out of over at least 20 visits which include their Farmington, Sourhington & Hartford locations have I ever felt I received good or at the minimum average service. The one time it was probably two years ago & it was actually a hostess who shined & luckily she was the first & last person we had contact with. She was friendly, knowledgable & actually seemed like she wanted to be there. That's it though just once - I swear if I didn't like their pretzels so much I would never go back - I think it's the delicious dijion honey mustard dipping sauce that accompanies them. The servers always seem to have an touch of arrogance to them & I don't know why this is pretty much a glorified TgI Fridays. Tonight was the topper and quite possible the deal breaker - I opted for a house salad - large @ $7.99 to go. I asked them to hold the egg & bacon but requested they substitute carrot for those items the girl said no problem. Drive all the way there - pick up my order & on the way home I notice I was charged .99$ for the substitution. I get the need to charge for extra items but clearly omitting egg and bacon for what turned out to be one measly chopped baby carrot - not even sure it was a whole baby carrot. Bare minimum I should've been advised of the charge but the real kicker here is there were some although not much but some julienned carrots already in the salad so they clearly already came with them - so the server should know her menu. The funny thing is we ordered a huge take out order from the Southington locale about a year ago & tonight triggered the memory of them messing up at least 2 of my co-workers salads that time.
Review Source:I really like Wood-N-Tap and it is always a good option for meeting up with friends for a drink (their specialty cocktails are delicious) and I don't think I have ever had a bad meal here. The Bar Chicks are my personal favorite on the menu. There is usually a good crowd and overall it's a fun place to hang out. Of all the options on Queen Street - this is by far the best choice.
Review Source:Not an outstanding culinary delight, but it gets the job done with "good ol' American" atmosphere and fare. I've been here a few times now, the last time being near to St. Patrick's Day which offered up a chance at an "Irish Menu". I chose the shepherd's pie and wasn't disappointed. I was told the lamb stew was also a good choice. Previously, I'd had a burger and fries that were pretty standard. I had asked our server if there was a nutritional information list available, since I couldn't find one on their website and she apologetically said they didn't have one. I'd recommend all restaurants make this available to folks who may need to count their meals for the purposes of controlling their diabetes. This doesn't reflect specifically on this location, however. Just a thought.
