There's a general lack of decent food nearby, as I expect with a small town like Soap Lake, but that's seriously not the case here. Â Don's never fails to produce really fantastic steak. Â The quality of meat is excellent. Â My husband always gets the burgers and they're hand-pressed patties with lots of fresh toppings. Â They have an odd smattering of tasty Greek dishes that are totally incongruous with the feel of the restaurant (more on that later.)
The waitstaff is friendly and long-employed. Â The bar is well stocked, the bartender knows what he's doing, and is really friendly if you want to sit at the bar and chat.
They just installed a window on the north wall of the restaurant. Â This is actually significant, a) because it provides a nice distant view of the lake and b) it surprisingly gives the room a slightly less "50 year old wall treatments and old lounge" feel. Â It's been years since the state banned smoking in restaurants, but everything in this place gives off the impression that any moment someone's going to light up a cigar and add to the patina. Â Don't let that deter you. Â You needn't worry about your lung health. Â You should be more concerned for the state of your pants after the filling meal you are sure to enjoy.
Surprisingly good for a small place like Soap Lake. I had Fish & Chips and it was the best I'd had since Anacortes. The place was clean and the service good. They even had Greek fair and the tzatziki was good as well. We're we're impressed and we are happy to find a decent restaurant in the area after over a half a dozen tries.
Review Source:The door going into Don's confused me to pieces but I went in there and got the "open faced steak sandwich." Â I'll be durned if it wasn't a piece of toast with a god damn steak on top of it. Â Anyhow--it was delicious. Â If I'm ever in Soap City again I'll make sure to stop in and have a brew.
Review Source:Discovered this place when we were staying at the charming Notaras Lodge across the street. Â With Soap Lake being so small, I wasn't expecting much, but I was wrong. Â The food was REALLY good and they had a nice variety of choices for both lunch and dinner. Â
The setting is dark - no windows, and lots of low lighting. Â But I thought it just added to the charm. Â Everything was great. Â It's definitely the go-to restaurant in the area.
This is the best place for excellent steak, especially Don's Club which is a thick sirloin.  The price at $19.95 with salad, potato, and bread cannot be beat. I order it medium and it comes on the medium rare side which is perfect in my humble opinion.  If you come in the middle of the week, don't be  put off by the low turn out - remember you are in a tourist town. I sit at one of the tables in the bar - the locals and other long time patrons gather there.
There is lots of flexibility - just ask. Â The wait staff have been there a long time and give good advice.
If you like prime rib this is the best! Â The place was packed on Friday night in advance of the Masquer's Theatre performance. Â Every table was full. Â I had the lightly breaded and grilled pacific oysters - outstanding. Â Corking fee was just $5.00 which was very reasonable. Â Way to go, Marina! Â Thank you for a wonderful meal each and every time.
Review Source:The first place we ate out when we arrived in Soap Lake for the summer. We had a great lunch and were pleasantly surprised by the terrific staff. The room is familiar to the old supper club-style from the 70's. Dark room, might have a textured wall paper. But the service is great.
The lunch bill was close to $90 for 6 of us but I can't recommend a trip here highly enough.
One of the finest - locally owned - steakhouses I have ever been too. Â Tons of local flavor and great great food. Â I have been there literally hundreds of times (and the private club across the street). Â
I would order the Don's Special with fries. Â They age their own beef, and you can really tell. Â It's slap your mamma good. Â Don't be put off by the homey feel. Â It's a real place and not a plastic steak palace (i.e., sizzler, black angus - uggg).
Worth a trip to Soap Lake
