Great place to have a beer or wine.  The staff is very knowledgable about their product...this is a beer bar specializing in craft beer.  Just tell them what u normally drink and they will hook u up with a craft beer that will forever change the way u  drink beer.  So glad I live nearby!
Review Source:I'm pretty sure I'd be a regular here if I lived in DeLand. Their bottled brew list is eclectic and delightful, and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. I would have liked to see more beers on tap (yes, they had 18, but it's a beer bar and even my local BW3 has more than 20), and it would have been nice to see more European stuff on tap as well. Those are quibbles though. This is a really nice place. I did not eat here, but they seemed to have a tiny menu with good choices for a beer place.
Review Source:Great selection of beer, although no Corona or Heineken. But they recommend others that were really good beer. In a college town, but not a college bar, ages 25-65 quite the eclectic group. Music was great on Saturday night, I was amazed at the talent level for no cover charge. Met one of the owners who was very personable and would recommend this place for a slightly upscale experience in Deland.
Review Source:Great place for this area of vast nothingness. Fantastic selection of brews on tap and delicious foreign & domestic craft beers. Ambiance is dark and relaxed but classy and GREAT seating for a group of friends to just hang out and chat while toasting it up. Totally worth a drive from Ponce Inlet for me!
Review Source:I've lived in DeLand for my entire life, and in my youth, I couldn't wait to be 21 to order a drink. I always admired the classiness of the place. First of all, the beer and wine selection is amazing - especially the beer selection. In addition, Abbey-owned restaurant, Norville Barnes, which is located directly across the street, provides the Abbey with their menu - or part of it anyway. The staff is very knowledgable, and was able to give me recommendations. They also have cider on draft, which is good is you're not much of a beer drinker, or have someone in your group who isn't crazy about beer. There's live music on Friday and Saturday nights, which I tend to avoid because It's not a huge place, and gets crowded with loud people and the music can be kind of loud - just not my thing. I prefer to chill, so I come in the middle of the week. Seating is great - comfy and posh. The atmosphere is great too. The price is slightly higher than the surrounding bars, at about $5-8 dollars for a bottled beer. Just remember that you'll be getting quality over quantity.
Review Source:A combination of atmosphere, food, and beer will win me over every time.  Not knowing what to expect, I took some major back roads in Florida to hit  Deland on my way home from a race in Clermont.  I had read about the Abbey and any place with a Belgian reference in its name better live up to it, especially since one of the best beer bars in the world, and in my world, happens to be in my hometown. (<a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/monks-cafe-philadelphia">http://www.yelp.com/biz/…</a>)  I walked in on quiet Saturday to some good tunes courtesy of one of the friendly bartender's Ipod.  Based on my preferences, one of the knowledgeable bartender served me up a double IPA that hit the spot after a long morning of racing.  After taking a look at the menu, I ordered the extraordinary Norville burger topped with gruyere cheese, boudrain sauce, a fried egg, with a side of sweet potatoes fries and a cucumber salad.  The meal was on point, the burger tasted homemade and the toppings made it stand out.  The sweet potato fries were cooked and salted perfectly; not too soggy and just the right crispiness.  This really was a pleasant surprise and well worth the detour!
Review Source:I love this place! It is one of my favorite bars ever. Great beer selection.
They have 18 taps that are constantly rotating so you neve know what they are going to have on when you go in. I LOVE THAT! Â The always have something interesting on tap for the beer snobs like me.
And if you can't find something you like on tap they have a wonderful bottle selection as well. I woudn't go there expecting great food. It really is a bar not a restaurant. Beer geeks rejoice! This is your spot.
This is tough...if you're a true beer lover the Abbey offers a fantastic selection and staff knowledge. Interiors are nice and warm but uninspired. (Though I'm an architect so take that for what you will...)
But for food and service we found it pretty lacking. Â They seemed to take our food order as a bother. Â (They serve half of the menu internally and half from another restaurant, so I'm sure it IS a bother...but we didn't plan it that way...). Â P
Food was so so. Â Mediterranean salad came undressed, muffaletta sandwich was underdressed on HUGE whitebread with Swiss. Â Hate to be a snob but that's not muffaletta.
Chicken roulade was only okay.
So for beer in Deland? Five stars...all else...meh. Â three.
Who doesn't like being served great wine and beer by a beautiful Aussie redhead? I'm not entirely sure there is too much else that needs to be said. Â The guy playing jazz was a bit creepy, but other than that, it was awesome. Â The selections of wine and beer are fantastic. Â I really wasn't expecting such a large selection of beer types and geographies. I plan on stopping back in just to keep on trying the beers next time I come back through Deland.
Another great piece to this is that he owner of Abbey also owns the restaurant across the street and the waitresses run back and forth between the places with food and drink. If you want a nice relaxing place to hang out in Deland, go to the Abbey.
We have made 2 special trips from Orlando to The Abbey in the past year. If you are a fan of Redlight, but find yourself a little east of town, this place will be a welcome sight.
This lovely bar serves flatbread pizzas along with some mighty fine beer, wine, and mead. It's worth the occasional drive through Deland on the way back from the beaches, but be warned if you want to hang around late; they do close up shop earlier in this town, so don't park it at midnight on a Sunday and expect to have a lot of time to hang out. Very good selection overall, and a knowlegdeable staff round it out wonderfully. We will definitely make another return trip the next time we're in the area.
From a DeLand High grad that got out of this sleepy little town as fast as possible- I love this place!! Â I do not feel like I am in DeLand; but the pub fits right into the friendly small town. Â The Abbey really gives me a reason to stroll downtown when I visit my parents. The selection of beer is atypical for the area. Â Witty staff are smart on the brews served. The yummies are low key bar snacks- not the best, but I'm not going for the grub. Â The atmosphere is friendly and offbeat.
My husband and I make efforts to reach our weekend destination by Friday afternoon. Â Happy hour is an interactive "beer exchange" Â I have never seen this program at another bar. Â They pick select beers and wines as "stocks", the price for each selection varies based on how often it is ordered. Â
I never visit DeLand without enjoying a yummy craft or import beer here!
surprise surprise who ever thought I would pay 25 dollars for a bottle of beer and rave about it (I am on the frugal side most of the times). the place has a cool vibe, staff and ownership on premises and they know and enjoy their product. my wife and I shared an app of cold cuts and cheese with some warm pita bread slices and and a fresh made olive oil dipping sauce all the ingredients were of high quality and complimented our beer. the sad part is I cannot remember the exact name it was Belgian spontaneous fermented beer made especially for the Xmas season the word Noel was on the bottle. this was an absolute treat smooth not yeasty it just melted in your mouth with flavors of malt and berries. if you are a beer connoisseur and want to try some off the wall out of this world beers this is a perfect road trip opportunity. the staff might even give you a sample of their own home brews I got lucky and tried a pumpkin ale which had some good gravity going on. Â I will be back.
Review Source:This is the kind of place that I could never see existing in DeLand in all the years I spent growing up here. But in the past few years as DeLand has transitioned to a mecca for the Winter Park-type crowd this has been one of several high-end beer and wine bars that has opened up, and they execute very well on their business model. The selection of beers is first-rate, and is about the best you are going to find anywhere. Everything from American craft brews and microbrews up to your rare Belgian Trappist beers. Wine selection is quite good as well. The food is not the focus of the place but their appetizers are great and pair well with their drink offerings. The setting and ambience are great as well. It's popular with pretty much everyone, but the crowd is definitely a bit more cultured than what you will find in other downtown establishments. Overall it's a great place to go to with a group.
Review Source:One of Deland's hidden gems. This place has literally the finest beer selection in Central Florida, geared heavily towards traditional Belgians and American craft brews. The prices are a little bit higher than what I've seen around Central Florida ($5-8 for bottles), but to get this quality in Deland is entirely worth it. The staff are quite friendly, and are all knowledgeable about the beer list--name your style, and they'll show you something that you'll probably like. The bar opens onto the street, which makes for a great experience on cool nights.
Food is a recent addition to the menu, and I could not be happier. Tasty paninis and such, made with fresh, quality ingredients. The meat and cheese plate, a cutting board full of cold cuts, cheese, apple and condiments will keep your crowd of increasingly tipsy friends happy as the night wears on. Go there, get educated!
