Our host recomended we eat at Abendios while we were in Hochatown for a long weekend. Overall it was a great experience! We were greated promptly and got seated fast eventhought it was busy. The service was great and the food was amazing. We all had steaks off the wood burning grill that were absolutly delicious. I wood recomend Abendigos to anyone in the area.
Review Source:Everyone talked about how fabulous this place was so we tried it the first night we arrived in town. Maybe I expected too much. Well prepared food considering the location. Â Dining atmosphere matches the prices about right. Â Service was good but I think the prices are still a little high overall. Bill for 2 adults 2 kids was about $65 before tip. Â We live in DFW Metroplex and have no problem paying that kind of price but I don't know if we'll go back to Abendigo's again. Â Nothing was BAD, just didn't think it was a good value overall. We have so many great choices in the city, a place like this probably wouldn't make it very long. Â The next day we ate at Blue Rooster and wished we would have gone there instead of overspending on Abendigo's. But, if you're not used to fine dining, this place will probably be 5 stars for you.
Review Source:We were in the area for the weekend and this was the only place suggested by our hosts. So we gave it a shot. It was a fair drive down the highway for us, but easy enough to get to. It's right off the highway, just past Girls Gone Wine and before the gas station. There is a big sign at the road right next to it for the Beavers Bend Marina/Park area.
It was Saturday night, around 6pm. The parking lot was full. We did not have to wait more than a few minutes. They have a very large outdoor patio area as well for people having larger parties. Because of the mild temperatures it was being used while we were there.
Menu prices are on par with a better than average restaurant. Probably considered high in the local area. Figure on spending about $40 or so for two. More if you get drinks and appetizer.
Not a huge menu, but they cover the beef, chicken, fish areas as one would expect.
It was just two of us, we both had chicken. There were only two different  chicken dishes on the menu. So we had one each. Chicken Madeira, which has cheese, asparagus, and mashed potatoes. And the Crusted chicken, which comes with pasta. Both were very good. Portion size was just right. You won't be taking home leftovers. (Gordon Ramsey would be happy). lol
Service was fine. The chairs were a bit uncomfortable. Not sure what the building was prior to the restaurant opening there, but it has a very high ceiling and kind of an odd layout. Nothing really fancy as far as the decor or furniture. And it is not a suit and tie for dinner type of area anyway. But we came for the food, and that was very good and that is what counts.
We also had the chocolate chip dessert which is served with some ice cream on top. It was sort of like bread pudding. It was also very good.
So yes, check it out if you are in the area of Broken Bow lake there. It is worth a stop. They don't have any serious competition at that price level as best we could tell from driving around. So your restaurant selections are going to be limited anyway.
This could so be five stars *if* they fixed just a few minor glitches ... but those are for later. First, the food. I am going on record to state that I Had the Best Shrimp Dish I Have Ever Eaten. No question that the Shrimp and Grits will haunt my dreams like Citizen Kane's vision of his sled, "Rosebud."
"Shrimp and grits . . ." [whispered as a cold fork slowly tumbles from my dead hand]
But dang-it, they can't get five stars because 1) their hostess was snotty; 2) the salad dressing was served in a black plastic cup akin to a fast-food take-out cup; 3) fans ran full-speed directly above the tables, so food is taken from hot-to-cold in a nanosecond; 4) the ventilation hoods must've been clogged because the dining rooms were filled with kitchen smoke; 5) the music kept coming on then turning off, with annoying feedback and crackling in between (ie, like they were trying to sync the house system with the outside live music; figure that out before you open); 6) the plates used for cold salad and cold desserts were hot, just out of the dish washer (place plates in the freezer to chill; very unappealing to feel a hot plate underneath cold lettuce); and 7) the chairs had impossibly long arms and were smooshed under the table, making it impossible to get into them without moving the table (and the aforementioned hostess was not about to be inconvenienced with helping guests get situated). Essentially, this might be the greatest take-out restaurant ever. Amazing food, seriously. It'd be great in a cabin with a bottle of wine (or four) from Girls Gone Wine (next door), but the dining area itself was a bomb.
For entertainment, I started counting the flaws in the front-of-the-house. The back-end guys (prep, chef, sous, kitchen manager) have their s*hit locked down tight. Get a detail-oriented front-of-the-house person and Abendigo's would improve overnight.
This is not all it's cracked up to be. We were told it was the best place in town...I'd say save your money. I was very torn on how to rate this with stars-it could be anything between a 1 and a 4,depending on what is most important to you. I'll give the pros and cons.
Pros: Great food, good selection. Service, when it was there, was good. Also, the decorations were fitting with the price range.
Cons: Sanitation is a real problem! If you don't know what to look for, you would miss it, but if you've worked in "the biz" then it makes you wonder whether or not you're getting food poisoning the next day. I actually was slightly sick the next day, but I think that's because our server was sick.
It took over 5 minutes for the hostess to even greet us. For a place as upscale as this one is, the servers were woefully understaffed. As far as I could understand, there were two waiters/waitresses and one hostess for the entire place. It took even longer than the half hour estimated to get seated, which seemed odd, since not all the tables were full. I think that our waitress (Chelsea) was a bad one - the Russian (Anton) seemed much better about his job. She did do her best to remedy the problems when we brought them to her attention, but at the same time, I looked her directly in the eye while needing service, then practically stared her down as she walked across the restaurant, into the kitchen, and across the restaurant and into the kitchen AGAIN. We finally tipped something like 5% because not everything was her fault, and she did try...just not very hard. I will add that she did not seem to care whether or not we were there or not, and that she did speed up her service dramatically as it became closer to closing time, which we didn't appreciate.
As far as food goes...as I mentioned before, sanitation was a problem. We ordered coffee and water for drinks. The coffee was disgusting on the first round and filmy with some herbs that had fallen in on the second round...not to mention that the creamer was bland and it took the waitress two tries to actually bring me sugar and not sweetener. Here are the saving graces that bumped it up to a 2 - the food was top-knotch. They were out of the first thing we ordered...awesome. What we finally wound up getting was a chicken dish and southwest egg rolls with cilantro, and they were both very tasty. Dessert was a pumpkin creme brulee that was tasty, but unremarkable. However, all that is mitigated by the fear that we were going to catch some food-borne disease from the sanitation problems, so it wound up being so-so. Portions were much smaller than we had hoped. We spent 30 dollars without tip and wound up going across the street to the Grateful Head to get a pizza for snacks later, since we were just barely satiated and would certainly be hungry before morning.
One last thing to note: there was a persistent, high pitched buzzing noise near our table. It was really irritating.
Overall opinion: save your money. There's food that equals the quality with better service and better conditions at pretty much every other restaurant in Hochatown.
Our weekend anniversary trip,
We found the absolute best restaurant that I have ever been to in my life.  I experienced some culinary perfection like none other at a restaurant called Abendigos, we had the pleasure of having the best lunch I have ever paid $25 dollars for and while we were there I booked an 8:30 reservation for dinner and told the Russian waiter that it was our anniversary, he said he was happy to help out.  That night at Abendigos for our main anniversary dinner we even got all dressed up which was also fun to do Elizabeth looked great.  We arrive 15 minutes late and when we walked in I said we have reservations for Travis and the response was right this way, I was shocked because there were at least 30 people waiting.  We were taken to the same table we had lunch at earlier, but the table was dressed with a bright red silk table cloth and rose petals with an elegant handmade card that read Reserved for our VIPs', the candle light was cool to.  Our waiter was the Russian I had spoke of before and he welcomed us and took our drink orders,  I asked for the chefs special spinach and artichoke dip.  The dip was incredible it had large pieces of aged parmesan in it and the soux chef had done something different with the artichokes they were roasted whole I believe.  When Anton "our waiter" returned he began to tell Elizabeth of the specials, I turned and looked at her and said may I and she said sure, I looked at Anton and said we want the very biggest and best that you have to offer he said terrific and from then on we were on a culinary ride.  We ate the absolute best steaks I have ever tasted and a roasted wild mushroom in a white wine and crème sauce that was to die for.  We experience so many great flavors I can't even describe them all with justice.  When dinner was over and we never do this but again I told Anton bring us your best.  Anton brought out this beautiful desert on an elongated platter with two layers of cake brownie that was snow white it was topped with toasted coconut shred and had some drizzled sauce over it and was topped with strawberries " an incredible experience and ride of flavors.  Highly reccomend!
