Good food. The salad needs upgrading, should have bread (preferably crusty), and more staff to make sure everything runs smoothly before it can be really called fine dining. They obviously opened a bit early.
Meals were very good though, but for the price I would expect actual service and bread, which is a small price point but makes people happy. Not the servers fault when they are the hostess/server/busser all in one.
On the positive side: Good dinner! A super welcome addition to Clinton. The waitress was super nice and kept our water glasses full. We even got a free half bottle of wine from another table because we didn't realize it was BYOB and came empty handed. Super sweet of them. The tuna was seared nicely with sesame. Nicely medium rare. The crab cake was flavorful and seasoned nicely. They're also open on Sunday and Monday so this makes them one of the few decent places around you can eat anywhere near here on those off-days. The place also looks nice and has an intimate vibe good for dates.
On the negative side: The crab cake was greasy. The broccoli rabe side was waaaay overdone on both dishes. The risotto, though tasty, was also overdone. I don't know if that's because it's been sitting too long (we arrived at 8:30) so maybe that's not always the case. The bistro salad with every entree was fresh and better than the one you get at Nola's.
Two entrees and an app and side of truffle fries came out to 63 not including tip so not cheap. If they can fix these few kinks, I'd say definitely worth coming back as regulars instead of going to Nola's.
It's more of a solid 3.5 stars with room to grow upwards!
Excellent dinner! Hostess needs to...host (was visibly stressed and unwelcoming; sets a bad tone). Need salad dressing upgrade, and to serve some excellent bread and butter, but appetizers and entrees were delicious and interesting, decor is great, ambiance in general lively and fun. Looking forward to going back....regularly.
