I was in the county clerk's office around the corner, and inquired where to get a good lunch nearby. It was a Friday, and the chorus that came back was "Agave Lounge, in the El Dorado." Well, OK then.
So off I set, I found the El Dorado easy enough, and I saw a door outside that said Agave. I tried to open it (it was noon) but it was locked! Curses, foiled! But alas, I would not be deterred. I entered the hotel proper, hung a left, and lo and behold, I gained entry into Agave.
The Friday $5 hamburger special is a heck of a deal. You get the burger and some fries for a good price. They have a nice selection of beers to choose from, you should pick something local.
$15 for a "top-shelf" margarita??? When it tastes like an acidic nightmare without Anejo tequila, I'm pretty pissed. God-awful bartenders for a Saturday night. Protip: Your restaurant name has AGAVE in it. In capital letters. Your margaritas better live-up to that. But they don't. Failure is always an option when you're trying to be a hipster.
Review Source:Food is awesome, service is great, happy hour is a killer! Â Try the mojito! Â I have been in Miami, FL where the original mojito is made by Cubans (w/sugar cane stick and all) and I am here to tell you, Agave Lounge comes the closest to a true mojito that I have ever tried out west!
Be careful, if u enter from the street side, the place looks closed. Â The hotel lobby has an entrance that most people use. Â Good quality food, real drinks and a nice ambience for unwinding after work. Â Check it out, you won't be disappointed!
The cocktails were great, but disappointingly small... it's also such a shame to see a cocktail made and poured, and then see the remainder of the cocktail in the shaker thrown away and not given to the customer... an inexcusable waste...
Bar food snacks were OK... although the calamari was overcooked... the artichoke and spinach dip wasn't too bad at all...
Would not go back and would like to see the martini glasses upgraded to standard sizes from Barbie sizes!!! ;-)
My wife and I stopped by for dinner at Agave recently, mainly due to the positive Yelp reviews, and I was not impressed.
For starters, we stood at the entrance for a while and watched two employees talk for a while but nobody would look in our direction. Â My wife had to actually stop a waitress walking by to ask if we should just seat ourselves.
When our waitress came to our table, she wasn't friendly at all and just asked what we'd like to drink. Â We had to ask for menus and had to let her know when we were ready to order, since she didn't bother to ask.
The spinach and artichoke dip was great, although the fried tortilla chips were a little on the greasy and heavy side. Â My green chile burger was dry and overcooked, although the sweet potato fries were good. Â My wife's pulled pork mole sandwich was very good and had a ton of smokey flavor.
Overall, our experience was ruined thanks to crappy service, which sucks since it was a rare night away from the kids. Â I tend to stay away from hotel bars and restaurants and now I remember why.
We decided we wanted to take a break from dancing at one of the bars downtown and wanted to sit somewhere more quiet on a Saturday night. This place was DEAD with only a few tables of people.
We sat at the bar and the bartender was attentive (with no one there how could she not be), and made us really delicious drinks. It was fun to be able to talk without being pushed or shoved. Also, the bathrooms were really nice and clean which always gets extra points in my book.
I dig this place, and I as I find myself getting generally more and more selective about where I spend my evenings out in Santa Fe, I'm starting to go here more. It's contemporary in design but pretty down to earth - at least in my experience. The food is pretty good, and the couch area by the fireplace is great for kicking back with some friends or a date. It does indeed get pretty packed, and it would be cool of the dining area in front of the bar were bigger - but hey, what can you do? Great calamari!
Review Source:I was searching on Yelp for the best happy hour in Santa Fe, saw the Agave Lounge at the top, and it was fabulous! Â We were there on Wednesday - $1 tenderloin tacos - YUM! Â The food and drink was top notch - a great value!
The bar wasn't busy, but our server was too busy talking to her friends to be of any use to us.  She had a  bad attitude when we told her that she posted someone else's bill to our credit card.  She needs training in customer service!
Thank you Yelp Reviewers for this wonderful find!
Definitely a wonderful find! Â Yes, one of the best happy hours in Santa Fe. Â We had a great bartender named Gabriella who was delightful. Â Very busy on a Wednesday and had their special $1 Tenderloin Tacos which were yummy. Â
Noticed they have food specials on M-Th which alternates on the Tenderloin Tacos, Lobster and Kobe sliders and Crab Cakes. Â Will be coming back for more tasty treats. Â Also they have an incredible Ahi Tuna dish as well which is not part of the happy hour, but the portions are huge. Â Will be back!
Great crowd - very friendly and busy.
We went to Agave for happy hour on a Friday and it was jam packed! I was so shocked how many people were there- guess the tourists are here. I like this place because it's spacious and there's a ton of seating. They have happy hour from 4-7 and a reverse happy hour from 10:30pm-close. They offer $5 wines, $3 beers and $5 well drinks. So cheap! They also offer food specials but not on Fridays. We ordered calamari and it was soooooo good! Not soggy and reminded me of popcorn shrimp. It comes with a sweet n sour sauce.
The wait staff were pretty attentive, given how busy it was. The bill was really low and I would recommend this place for happy hours.
Mmmmmm! Â The setting is perfect for nibbles and cocktails before heading out. We sat in a comfy corner near the fireplace. Not crowded at all. The Kobe sliders? Perfect. Lobster roll sliders? Even more so (no mayo, just a light vinaigrette, nice buttery bun). These were so good we had two orders of each. The tuna on guac and tomato was so good. The cheese plate lacked, but I think it's because everything else was so good and inventive. Total aside. I loved this place.
Review Source:Great, great place to unwind and enjoy a good selection of food and alcohol. When I say that everything here is tasty, I mean it... because everything IS tasty!
Their happy hour is killer; they do a regular 4-7 and a reverse 10-midnight with daily specials ($1 Kobe sliders on Mondays!) and $5 house drinks. What a great deal!
I've tried almost everything on the food menu including the Kobe sliders, Feta and Artichoke dip, fried wontons, carnitas tacos, bacon wrapped shrimp, calamari... and some. My favorite had to be the feta and artichoke dip by far. Itsn't not too rich and balances perfectly with the house tortilla chips.
A stocked full bar with a great selection of cocktails. I'm personally a huge fan of their mojitos - perfect for a warm summer day. Incredibly delicious and so smooth. If you don't see it on the menu, ask your server about it!
This is one of the few places that does late night in Santa Fe (yes, 1:30am is late for this state) so stop on by whenever you have a free second!
Went with my fiance and his parents a few nights ago at the Old House and my fiance and I ended up sharing two of the lounge's small plates for an appetizer. We split the calamari and the ginger pork wontons - both were so great we decided to go back for lunch the next day.
We ended up having the calamari again (easily the best calamari I've ever had), the cheese plate and the bacon wrapped shrimp to start. Â All were amazing. Â Seriously, the calamari deserves special mention here. Â It was crispy, flavorful, and the portion size was large - more than enough for two people. Â
For an entree, I had the braised pork torta and Freddy had the burger. Â We were both happy. Â The bread the torta was served on was crispy and warm and yummy, and the pork itself was flavorful, moist and well spiced. Â The queso fresco and pickled onions were a nice touch. And it came with sweet potato fries- score!
I can't wait to go back to Agave - and judging from the capacity crowds we saw both times we were there, neither can the rest of Santa Fe :)
