AJ's Old Town Steakhouse

I gave AJ's five stars because of the bartender, Erica, the owner's sister. She is the best, most diligent bartender in Homer, hand-making each cocktail, like an artist.

The food is good here at this historical bar and restaurant, serving only the freshest fish. I'm not a huge meat eater, but my I've noticed the place is full on prime rib nights! They also have local entertainment every day.

The owners, Adrienne and Alex Sweeney, have remodeled it since purchasing, but haven't taken out the historic bar and kept the flavor of the old days.

Adrienne and Erica were both born and raised in Homer, part of the homesteading family, the Walli's, who long ago owned Ma Walli's Store, which used to be the social gathering place for homesteading families in the old days. AJs has started to feel like this kind of gathering place to me. I feel right at home there.

Also, you'll get great fishing tips from Adrienne and Erica, who are seasoned fishermen.

I really liked the feel of this place.  The spiked coffee I drank was flavorful & unique.  Since I was in Homer, the halibut capital, I decided to try the fish & chips.  The chips were great.  I'm not a big fry fan, but these were super crispy on the outside & tender inside.  As for the fish, it didn't seem like much for the money, but the batter was crisp & golden brown.  I don't know if I'm a huge halibut fan, but I enjoyed it fried.

AJ's is a very good hidden restaurant. I say this because the only reason I found it on my first visit to Homer was just a random lights on by the beach. Though I am thoroughly glad I stopped. I will say if you are in a rush, this probably isn't the place for you, but if you have a little time it is worth it. I say this because it isn't McDonald's and the food will not disappoint. The prices of the meals are fabulous for the food you get.
 The several times I have stopped in during my business trips I have not been disappointed. I can only say is that I hope the best for this place and their chef. Also the bartenders are great to talk with and will not leave you waiting long if you need another drink or even salt and pepper.
