The town of Allerton had only one bar that we knew of, and since the town was quite a detour from our planned route, Â we had called ahead to make sure it would be open. Â "We open at 1:00 on Saturday," we were told. Â Â So you can only imagine our irritation when we arrived in town at 1:40 and it was closed.
THANKFULLY we discovered a nearby American Legion that we did not know about, and it WAS open. Â
This was one of the least bar-like bars I have visited... it felt like drinking at the kitchen counter in a community center. Â In fact, the bar IS pretty much in the kitchen... with a tile floor and white walls and the stove and all. Â Â
I was going to give this place 2 stars for the ambiance, but I decided to give it one more star for (a) being open and (b) a really gracious and pleasant bartender who was so kind that we tipped her more than twice what our drinks actually cost.
