Review Source:Came here  with my family yesterday. This is their off season and wwe also stayed at their beautiful hotel for a reasonable rate.
My wife ordered the pork . My son had the full buffet. Â I ordered the turkey dinner.
All were delicious and our service was friendly and prompt.
We will be back next year when visiting the area.
I was initially disappointed when we sat down because I realized they didn't have the buffet going on Saturday. Â I was looking forward to a buffet of homestyle food, so it took me a minute to adjust my expectations. Â Once I made peace with the fact that I'd have to order from the menu, things started turning around. Â I found a sampler platter that comes with broasted chicken, ham, roast beef, stuffing, mashed potatoes & gravy, and your choice of corn, noodles, or something else I can't think of, AND unlimited trips to the salad bar. Â Things were starting to look up, and I happily placed my order.
It turns out the sampler platter is basically a one-plate buffet. Â You get a LOT of food, even when you order the "small". Â The "large" portion gets you an extra piece of chicken and presumably more of other stuff, but I certainly didn't need any more. Â Even if the hot plate wasn't enough, you could find plenty to like on the salad bar. Â
Let's take this one-by-one: Â The chicken was amazing. Â It was moist on the inside and nice and crisp on the outside. Â The ham was some of the best I have ever had anywhere. Â I'm not a ham guy, but this was good enough to actually order it as my main dish. Â The roast beef was very good, although it may have been a little over-cooked. Â (It is certainly some of the better roast beef I've had in restaurants, which always tend to overcook roast beef while it sits around waiting for a customer to order it.) Â The mashed potatoes and gravy were great. Â The stuffing was good, although I have had better, but this is another item that restaurants usually screw up. Â The noodles were fine, if a bit boring. Â The salad bar was awesome. Â It had plenty of great toppings to choose from, as well as pasta salad and macaroni salad (both of which were fantastic). Â Just about everything I ate was a winner. Â
The sole major disappoint was the bread. Â The waiter gave us the choice of a loaf of bread (wheat or white) or rolls for our table. Â We opted for the white loaf. Â Now, I've heard good things about the bakery, so I was excited for good bread. Â After cutting into it, I knew exactly what happened. Â It didn't smell fresh, but it was piping hot. Â Furthermore, the top inch was all hard. Â They had obviously microwaved the loaf (which is a huge no-no if you ask me), and worse yet, they committed the unforgivable sin of microwaving it so long that they made the bread all hard in places. Â Not cool. Â If crappy chain-restaurants (steakhouses, Italian, etc.) can bring out fresh bread and rolls right from the oven, a place called The Amish Door that is known for its bakery HAD BETTER get it right. Â Seriously. Â I'm a huge bread fan, so this was a big disappointment. Â In the end, I was so stuffed from other items that I didn't really miss it though.
If I find myself back in the area in the future, I'll definitely work The Amish Door into my meal rotation.
