Cool local place. You get a real sense of Young here. Good prices, good service. Pecan chicken and chicken fried steak both are very good.

Getting there is half the fun.  Be prepared for a dirt road but one that's good enough for a family sedan.  We weren't sure if there was even one restaurant in Young, but there was exactly one and what a delightful surprise.  Friendly owners transplanted from Scottsdale shared their story with us.  Capable server and there was ample evidence that the place was run by folks with a lot of experience.  I'll bet the restrooms in the old building weren't nearly as nice as in the new one.   We had the pulled pork sandwich with 20 spices and the Monte Cristo sandwich.  Each around $8.  Great value and great taste.  Hubby said that was the best Monte Cristo he'd ever had and the sauce on the pork was like no other I'd ever sampled plus there was a lot of meat spilling out of the bun.  But wait, there's more!  Check out the dessert specials on the whiteboard.  We ordered the peach-rhubarb cobbler ($5) which is big enough to share, fruit covered with a thin crumble and topped with vanilla ice cream.  Yummmmm.  We took home the peach butter cake, which had a thick butter-creamy sauce over a yellowish cake in which slices of peach were embedded.  Again, big enough to share and that was our dinner after I reheated it slightly in the microwave per the server's instructions.  Yummmm again.  If you're longing for an Arizona back-woods road with great folks and delicious food at the end, the Antlers is for you.  Just keep going until you find it--the antler-studded gate posts will let you know that you've arrived.  If you're not in a big hurry to leave town, you can linger over the jigsaw puzzle in process or let your kids play with the toys and games the owners keep on hand for that purpose.

Friendly service & great food. Meatloaf & fresh green beans were fabulous. Decor is a taxidermist's delight. Twangy country background music simmers just right.
