The three of us had dinner there on Wednesday night around the 7 o'clock hour. Â We ordered 2 Chef Specials which were the T-bone french dip sandwich meals, and a Rib steak dinner, a milkshake, the trio dessert sampler, 2 apple cobblers, and 2 beers. Â The check came to about $75. Â The portions were well sized. Â We took home left overs. Â The Chef Specials came with auj jus and french fries and were really good. Â When I first looked at my plate the steak was accompanied with the mashed potatoes that I requested and a veggie which was zucchini and squash. I normally don't like the bitter taste of zucchini and squash blend, but I gave it a go and I was quite surprised. It was DELICIOUS, well seasoned, no bitter taste. It was the best thing on the plate. Â The mashed potatoes were good too. The steak that I requested medium rare was extremely fatty, quite bland. Â It was not a rib steak and had no bone. It was an undercooked prime rib cut. Salt and pepper didn't really do much to flavor it, and A-1 was too heavy. Â Aus jus brought out the flavor, but what it really needed was to be cooked on a flame just a few minutes more. Â I had to microwave the leftover meat about 3 minutes to become a normal edible consistency. Â My daughter and I were debating what milkshake flavor to get. I wanted peanut butter chocolate and she wanted Oreo. Instead of a never-ending back and forth stalemate we decided to give our compromise a try: peanut butter chocolate oreo. Wow, what a yummy invention! Â They also have homemade desserts displayed in the desert case. Â The apple cobblers were good. Â The trio sampler with the chocolate pudding cake, meyer lemon cake, and the blueberry cheesecake were rich and yummy. Definitely brought it as leftovers to our hotel room to snack on repeatedly. Â We had two different waitresses- one to seat us and get our drinks. When we walked in it was a full dining room with people finishing their meals so the dining area we were in dwindled down just to one other table when we had ordered another beer half way through the meal. Â After 10 minutes or so we realized she forgot about us. We tried to flag her attention but she remained oblivious. The other waitress who was kind enough to check on us, who i believe is the head waitress, seemed more experienced and knowledgeable than the younger, previous waitress who failed to inform us of the beer choices on tap, so ended up with a Bud Light... I discovered this diner a few years back and am a repeat customer here when I visit Chelan. Â This is a very quaint, homey, cozy, friendly diner that I would recommend. Â They seem to have the weeks' specials posted and it appears they have a special every day. They also have the Fireside Lounge on the other side of the restaurant.
Review Source:This is a standard diner-like breakfast place. Â The service, when you get it, is very nice and friendly. Â Sometimes you have to sit and wait for a while though. Â The food is typical hearty breakfast (and lunch) food. Â We never seem to be very hungry when we go here, so we always get something small, like the english muffin breakfast sandwich (which is actually quite good). Â We will have to go for the gusto next time and stuff ourselves silly. Â My favorite thing about this place is that if you want a latte, they will walk over to the latte stand in the parking lot and get it for you. Â And they're good latte's too! Â Ya gotta love a place that goes out of their way for you like that. Â Give 'em a try.
Review Source:Good food, good service, great BREAKFAST!
German sausage with eggs over easy, wheat toast and perfectly cooked hash browns.
The hash browns surprised me. Â Crunchy outside, soft inside, not greasy at all... perfectly golden brown. Wonderful.
The German sausage was sliced length-ways and grilled. Â A tad spicy and very delicious.
Hometown atmosphere and basic decor. Â Very clean with polite servers. Â Easy to find on the main drag of Chelan near the Les Schwab.
We'll be back!
Coffee grounds floating IN the coffee.
Burnt toast. (other people's toast was fine)
"skillet" breakfasts not in skillets so they got cold quickly
potatoes boiled then fried - not a good flavor, tasted boiled instead of fried
over cooked bacon
milk instead of cream for coffee
funny smell in back room where we were seated, chairs mismatched and the one i got super uncomfortable.
will NOT be returning.
I'm not sure if we ate at the bizzaro world version of this place but it was horrible. Â We went for dinner and it took over a 1/2 hour to cook our meal with a nearly empty restaurant. Â Food tasted below average and looked worse. Â The vegetables were soaked in oil or butter...couldn't tell. Â The fish I ordered tasted dry and I had to cut it with knife. Â The people behind me left 3/4 of their meal behind. Â The worst part was listening to another table complain about the dry meat and the waiter laughing and saying "of course it's dry..it was cooked at 11 am this morning...I never order the daily special". Â He offered them gravy to moisten the pork roast. Â The desserts are microwaved to warm up and are below average. Â They use soft serve ice cream on your dessert which doesn't taste good either. Â The waiter ended up comping two meals of "dry meat" to the other table and I contemplated asking for the same but didn't. Â I don't understand where the good reviews come from. Â The kicker was when he brought me the clam chowder and asked me if it was too cold as they had "just put it out"...it was 7 pm...what time do they open the can and microwave the soup...I wonder? Â It tasted worse than Progresso canned soup.
Review Source:Holy moly! The food is soooo good. We rolled in with 11 girls as part of a bachlorette party and we were starving. The waitress handled our large party with ease. The service was quick, the food was good, and the price was right. The decor was classic old school. It reminded of me of eating at your grandma's house. This should be your number one choice for breakfast restaurants in Chelan.
Review Source:We stopped in here while on vacation hoping they'd have chicken fried steak. Not only did they but it was the best we've ever had! Â Unlike most chicken fried steaks that are hard and crusty, Apple Cafe's were moist and flavorful. The portions were also very generous and for a good price. The service was also cheerful and pleasant. We also suggest trying the bloody Mary specials. The only reason I'm not giving Apple 5 stars is they didn't melt the cheese on our hash browns, which should've been a given. However, if you're looking for a delicious, hearty breakfast in Chelan, Apple Cafe should be your destination.
Review Source:Remember the classic "Truck Stop" restaurant ? Â Apple Cup isn't a truck stop, but the food, the service, the decor are like the best Truck Stop you've ever been to.
You get seated and served quickly - waitresses make you feel like one of the family. Â Menu offers an incredible variety - have eaten here dozens of times and Never had a bad meal. Â And they offer a reduced-price menu page just for Seniors and Kids - a bit smaller portions which is Perfect!!
You'll be missing the best if you don't end the meal with my favorite: Â Apple Crisp with ice cream on top. Â Absolutely incredible!!
In the Fireside Lounge the following specials are currently going on:
Sun - Bingo (Free) & Doubles for $1 More, Mon-$1 Chili Dogs, Tue-$2 Cheeseburgers(Great), Wed-$6 Steak and Fries, Thur-$2 Chicken Burgers (Make it Pluck), Fri-$1.50 Pork Sliders, Sat-$1.50 Tacos. Â Dian(Owner), Robin, Donna and Chewy are Great.
Also, next door the Apple Cup Too is open.
The food is very disappointing. We ordered skillet, the description says a all kind of ingredients, and last was potato. But what we got was a plate of potato( plate was even small), with a tiny bit extra in it. My main thing was ham, and I found maybe 10 pieces of ham cut into size of a pepper corn. It's cooked just OK, the presentation was a mess. Never come back again.
Review Source:Our waiter was really helpful with our big group with children and rolled with it when we had spilled water. Food came in big portions and they served us quickly. Went again the next day for breakfast and had another good experience. A good local cafe that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day. The meat seems like good quality for a diner. Not the greatest at refilling water though.
Review Source:Super friendly and professional staff who are efficient and helpful, unbeatable selection, delicious food, and to seal the deal: very reasonable prices! In our 2 night stay there in Chelan, we ate here twice. Something must have changed in the last several months when they were receiving so-so reviews.
This place is great!! My partner and I were in and out of there within 45min flat. We'll be back :)
My husband is mildly allergic to some food chemicals. Â Usually, we can go to a restaurant without a problem, unless it's some place like Denny's where he reacts within a few bites of the food because it's so laden with preservatives and chemicals. Â There are only a few sit-down restaurants that are like that for him. Â This is one of them.
Review Source:Again, never had a bad meal here. Today they were super busy, but it still didn't take long to get seated and served.
Last time we were here we all thought how funny our server was distracted with my little niece as she was taking our order. We thought she wasn't catching anything we were saying or noting our changes, but she didn't miss a beat. She kept saying 'go ahead, honey' and back to making funny faces at my niece. Pretty funny, but she was a great server and got all our orders out quick and correct.
So we all thought she just loved kids, right? Nope, she ignored all other kiddos, even the ones I thought were cuter than my niece.
Back to the food. Food is always solid. They gave me scrambled today and even when I said it was okay, they brought over easy. Good stuff.
Pancakes are super soft and bloody marys are stiff. The end.
first time in chelan and we were staying across the street from this place and quickly realized there aren't very many choices for breakfast, so decided to walk across the street and check this place out.
it was standard breakfast. nothing spectacular, just average. the waitress, who was an older lady, seemed to be paying attention to everything but us when she was taking our order. she was writing everything down but there was no eye contact.
food was decent, very reasonably priced, and came out extremely quick though - so can't complain!
I grew up in Chelan and loved eating here. Over the past few years, the food has gone downhill and an alarming speed. It is officially dive status. I have eaten here with terrible food 3 times in the last year. I hoped each time that the time before was a fluke. Nope. Everyone's food was bad each time. It makes me so sad.
Review Source:My wife and I stayed at Wapato Point and found this place on http://Restaurant.com Read the reviews here and thought we give it a go. Â We went 3 times in the week we stayed, twice for breakfast and once for dinner. Â The breakfast portions were large and well priced. Â My wife got the build your own Omelette and it was huge! With the order she got pancakes. Â I ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs with toast. Â Delicious!
My wife wanted shrimp for dinner and we checked the menu of the "seafood restaurant" downtown and I thought I was going to have a heart attack looking at the prices. Â Almost 26 bucks for shrimp dinner. Â So I thought we'd give the Apple Cup Cafe a go for dinner. Â She got the popcorn shrimp and chips and I got the fish and chips. Â Normally popcorn shrimp means small, but these were anything but, and the portion was larger than most places I've eaten, the price was under 10 bucks! Â The fish was Halibut not cod or even cheap pollock you find in other joints, and again under 10 bucks.
We came back on Thursday for our last breakfast in town. Â You know when all the locals are hitting this place up, it's the place to be for good food. Â
We had the same waitress for the 1st breakfast and dinner, and a different one for the last breakfast. Service was quick, we did have to wait a little for breakfast on Sunday, but given how many people were in there, it was understandable. Â Quick to fill coffee, I use this as a gauge for service, if my cup never goes empty, it's a plus, but they were filling me up at the half cup mark. Â
Overall a great place! Will definitely be back again!
If this place was in Seattle it would for sure be a 3 star joint. But here in Chelan... 4 easy!
Basic diner fare. Pretty institutional really. I have to say nothing was wrong with the food at all and we all grubbed out.
Service was crazy quick and kind.
The absolute high point which really bumps it up to a 4 star status is the giant and delicious bloody mary. Spicy, chunky, green olive and pickled green bean! Make it a double for a buck extra are you kidding me?!?! Does that mean i can make it a quadruple for 4 extra dollars!?!? I dont know the answer to that, but next time I go I will surely try and find out!
Always make it a point to come to Apple Cup every time I come to Chelan. It never disappoints. I am pretty sure that all I have had here is breakfast, even for dinner. I hate having limitations, so cafes that serve breakfast all day, always have a special place in my heart!
2 meals for $22 is the cheapest we have paid for a meal in Chelan all week. Next year when his family suggests Troys, I will insist we drive 20 mins in town to eat here!
I've been here everytime I've been in Chelan (probably about half-a-dozen times), and it is consistently a good experience. My most recent visit, I had the clubhouse on sourdough with fries and a strawberry shake. The clubhouse was solid and the strawberry shake was in the top 3 shakes I've ever had. She had french toast and coffee. Also very good.
Our server was Donna, who was very friendly, very fast, and very attentive. Great place for breakfast or lunch, and a staple in Chelan!
3.5 Stars. Â Each day they have a special and Monday's special was the Meatloaf. Â Ordered that along with their Chicken Fried Steak (CFS). Â Both plates were served with corn and mashed potatoes and a roll. Â Also got a beef stew type soup that came with the CFS that was very delicious with tender beef. Â Meatloaf was the gravy based variety and not the tomato based one (the one I don't like) and worked well with the creamy mashed potatoes and corn. Â Same for the CFS.
Diner style food, good service and overall decent value in Chelan.
It has potential but not for us...I guess it's been around since 1957 and I would assume that was when they purchased the cereal that they gave to my daughter. The box was dust covered and a bit faded. The cereal was stale and the other food was pretty bland. However, the staff were fantastic...they get the star on the ratings...
Review Source:We got back from Chelan this afternoon and I'm so glad we stopped by this place before riding home!
We had a group of 10 so they had to split us up but they managed to seat us right next to each other which was great. The service here is amazing and the waitresses are super friendly. Coffee is free here too! I shared the chicken country fried steak meal and that was so filling and satisfying! I also ordered a side of sausages, that was kind of greasy but still good.
Our friends really enjoyed their breakfast burrito too. The food came to us in record time, I was so amazed and impressed. Overall, this place is sooo welcoming to tourists so I highly recommend stopping by this joint for breakfast, lunch or dinner, because they serve everything all day long!
Apple Cup Cafe is the hang out where all the locals go!
It sits about 6-7 blocks from the downtown area.
It is your friendly, basic American style diner. Â Breakfast is served, sandwiches/salads/burgers are your standard fare. Â I had the Reuben with fries. Â It was really good.
Service is really friendly, and you can tell that they are used to treating both locals and strangers very well.
Great local breakfast and lunch place. Â Stop for a late breakfast and the food was great. Â Place was packed and it appeared to have a rather large following. Â Service was good, portions large and prices reasonable. Â If you are in the area and need a place to have breakfast I would recommend it.
