Archie's Restaurant

We stopped into Archie's during our annual hunting trip. We entered to a very cozy cafe adorned with antiques and old time style.

I ordered a Farmer's salad with a Russian Babbage Borstch soup. Not what one would expect to order in a roadside cafe but I am trying to stay vegan for my heart. It was fantastic and the service was equally as good.

If you find your self in Pilot Rock, give Archie's a visit.

How we wound up at Archie's Restaurant is not really important, but I'll tell you anyway:    Pilot Rock could arguably be called "the middle of nowhere."  Well, it seemed that way to us.  We approached from the south and west (God's country) and hadn't seen a place to eat for many many hours.   When we saw Archie's in "downtown" Pilot Rock, and confirmed it was open, we were cautiously excited.   At the very least, our full fledged hunger problem was about to be solved, but we did not expect to get great food in "the middle of nowhere."  

What is important was how pleasantly surprised we were with the quality of the food we found there.  I ordered the Reuben with a side of potato salad.   My wife got soup and salad.  My Reuben was as fine a Reuben as I have had anywhere at any time.  This I certainly did not expect!  I also very much enjoyed the potato salad.  My wife's salad was very good as well: large and loaded with obviously fresh ingredients.  She absolutely loved her soup!  Nearly a week and 4,000 miles later, she is still talking about how great her Archie's Chicken Soup was.  

The service was also prompt and friendly... very friendly:  The girls working there really made us feel at home.

So, if you find yourself in "the middle of nowhere" or within reasonable driving distance of "the middle of nowhere", I suggest you make time for a meal at Archie's Restaurant.
