B & J Smokehouse

Food is always good here. The menu has become larger but the food this restaurant started with remains-great smoked meat and BBQ sauce. Breakfast is generous portions at a reasonable price.

This used to be one of my favorite BBQ's joints. I grew up on this BBQ. We would eat there 3-4 times a week during the summer when we would stay on the lake with our grandparents on summer break.

The meat was always smoked to perfection and the sides were pretty good. The sauce was spicy and yummy. But a few years ago the original burned down and they rebuilt.

I have been many times since they rebuilt hoping they would get back to their glory days. It has yet to happen.

They have tried to upscale the place to attract non-locals and changed the way they present the food. It used to be on paper plates with sauce and no frills. Now it is on plastic plates and divided into sections and just a little sauce.

The smoke is still not where it used to be, and I know it will take time to get that great smoke flavor back into the smoker.

I just hope they go back to their roots.
