Great setting, great vibes and very good food. The Backwater Bar & Grille is a literal oasis along the highway. I've eaten here three times now and everytime the service has been spectacular, the food really good and the beer nice and cold. The decor and clientele both make this place feel like one of the most beautifully American places in the Northeast.

Quiet restaurant on Queechy Lake.  Very quiet indeed, although it was just after lunch we were the only ones in the place.  When you walk in it looks like a old lodge with tons of old books.  Very rustic.

I got the BBQ burger and it was big.  The sweet potato fries were fantastic.  We also got the Quesadilla which was also big, more-so very thick with filling.  The bowl of french onion soup was big enough that it could pass as almost a small meal on its own.

The food was great.  But with it being somewhat off the beaten path it doesn't get that much traffic.

Sit outside on the deck, watch the water ripple, enjoy one of the many offered beers, and enjoy!

Additionally we had a very satisfying dinner in a near empty dining room with the fireplace blazin'.  Good steak and side dishes.  Very friendly staff too.  They are happy to to turn down the TV volume from the bar in the adjacent room.

From the Facebook entries, I thought this was a nice restaurant, with views and roaring fireplaces and suggested that we go with friends for New Years Eve. Without going into complete detail, we were very disappointed.  From the time we sat down to our first drink being delivered 35 minutes passed.  It was cold in the dinning room.  The waitress was horrible.  There was no view of the water.  The food was cold and not what we ordered.  In all fairness this turns out to be more of a bar and grille than a restaurant, which of course is in the name, but having been there years ago, I remembered it as being a cute, classy restaurant.  We will certainly not return.

We went here for the first time on Saturday evening and we were not disappointed.  The restaurant and bar are very inviting and the lake views were great.  We shared a bowl of delicious steam cleams.  For entrees, I had the baked haddock and by BF had the Backwater wrap.  Both were good and we were happy with our choices.  I thought that the haddock was cooked perfectly and instead of french fries, I was able to swap out for sauteed summer squash.  They have a small selection of craft beer from a couple of local breweries.  We wish they had more.  We stayed into the evening, sitting outside on their patio, by the lake.  We'll be back!

Went to dinner with my wife.  We had a gift certificate and were looking forward to trying someplace new.

Decor: Cozy and views of the lake were nice.
    Waitstaff:  Very attentive and friendly

    Appitizers:
Clam Chowder - will return here for this alone.  It was the best Chowder we have had in any restaurant.  Abundant clams, red potato's, creamy broth, awesome flavors

French Onion soup - Homemade, fresh onion, but a bit under seasoned.  it was good, but wouldn't order it again

    Dinner:
Surf and Turf - little neck clams tender, clean, and succulant.  8oz steak cooked perfectly, juicy and delicious.  Garlic red mashed potato's were perfect.  Only drawback:  veggies undercooked, nearly raw and unseasoned

Steak quattro fromagio - 14oz sirloin.  Ordered Medium-rare, received Medium-well.  HOWEVER, was one of the most tender steaks that I have had.  Well seasoned and flavorful.  Was too good to send back.  Same undercooked veggies and well prepared garlic red mashed.

I read the OLD reviews and have to assume that the restaurant either:
    A: came under new management

    or

B:  Made drastic changes at the beginning of the year.

We will return again in the future.

Visited for dinner with friends Saturday evening.  I had the Jack Daniel's Steak and it was one of the best steaks I have had in quite some time.  Cooked to perfection!  Will be back!

I went to Backwater Grille about a month ago with my friends.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself  and certainly will go back. We had a great meal and it was served with a smile. I had the chicken parm dinner which was a generous portion, as well as having the choice of soup or salad. The atmosphere was really fun.  My friends and I actually ended up staying after dinner to sit at the bar. Great food and fun, who could ask for better, especially when it is on a lake. Cant wait till summer!

Avoid this place.  The food was greasy, terrible and slow to arrive. To top it off when we got the check and all of the items were a dollar or more than stated on the menu. The wait person, without apology, told us that they had increased their prices but the new menus showing this had not arrived yet. She informed us that what was printed on the register slip was what the cost was! No offer to honor the prices printed on the menu was made. I guess it was our fault for being so uninformed. Now, in the know, we will NEVER EVER return to this place.

Well, this might not be fair, since I ended up not going there. We called to ask if we can come in for lunch with a party of 13. The woman who answered said, "Are you serious? I can't handle that many people. I'm just one person working alone here." Is she serious?! I won't be trying this place any time soon.

Don't waste your time or money. The location is picturesque but the food and service leaves much to be desired. Not only was our order wrong, but it wasn't good and our waitress couldn't be bothered to check in to find that out. We ordered the tavern burger medium with mushrooms and cheese. We got a WELL done burger with only mushrooms and a burnt rock hard roll. The fish and chips was practically swimming in grease. Such a disappointment.

Great for lunch overlooking Queechy Lake. Had a freshly made chicken cordon blue sandwich with mornay sauce. My husband loved his fish and chips, and our son was very pleased with his chicken tenders. Everything was made from scratch.

They also had a skating rink cleared on the lake.

    Highly recommended!

Terrible for breakfast! They can't get an order straight or out. We waited 45 minutes for eggs and when they finally brought the order it was wrong and for a different table!!!! I had to serve the food that came to us to the other table because there was no one else to do it!!!
