This place is legit...mostly.
In a town full of hit or miss bars, 14 is pleasantly consistent. You have options here:
-little outside patio
-live music on the bar side
-dj on the other side with nice area for lounging
-VIP area (which I often wander into sometimes and make new friends)
-bar food that is yummy and varies every once in a while
-dress code for the dj side, as a beautiful woman, I appreciate that
-St. Patrick's Day crawfish boil was awesome!
-No cover unless there is a special event going on
Only down side would be that it gets so crowded at the bars on both sides, it makes you just want to go to a dive and chill.
As with any other establishment in this fair city of tumbleweeds and coors light, you may end up here on a Friday or Saturday night and be surrounded by 4 creepers and a lonely girl. But when it's good, it's good.
I'll start off by saying I'm from California originally and have high standards. For Abilene it's the nicest club on sat night only. I've gone twice on a Friday and it was dead and the dj was a jerk (you think you'd be nice to the only hot girls who were there and dancing and drinking) I find the music is hit or miss. I get a liquid cocaine drink and it's good. They charge for water which is b.s. if you're the dd. They should have a dd program for sure (where dd's get 2 free sodas or whatever) last time I went people would dance during certain songs and the dj kept changing it and everyone would leave and he would play the music people made faces at for a few runs before playing something good only every 10min or so. We were up and down leaving and dancing because the music was bipolar. Time before last was great (for Abilene) though! There is a live music section too but that's not my thing so I avoided it at all costs because I didn't want downer country music in my ears.
Review Source:This place is great! Â It's so refreshing for Abilene to have owners and managers at a bar care about creating a fun atmosphere with drink specials, food specials, good communication on facebook, theme nights, creative parties and special events, etc. Â They usually have a DJ and a small band at the same time on weekends. The place is big with 2 large spaces, 2 small rooms, and an outdoor patio. Best beer selection in town!
Review Source:Well done, Bar 14! I sincerely wish you'd been around during my college days. My friends took me here while I was visiting home for the holidays, and it very much impressed me.
A good mix of young people. A talented live musician. Attentive waitresses (once you get their attention). Cheap beer (for a New Yorker).
Seriously, Abilene needed a bar like this. Its night scene was so dry and predictable when I left. I'm glad to see it got a much-needed boost from the opening of Bar 14.
