We will definitely be back. The best coleslaw in any restaurant we have ever ordered it. Our waitress was the best - very happy to see us and we love when we are in a new place (we are from Canada) when the staff always have time to chat - that makes the meal - just like having dinner with a new friend. The food was terrific too.

wow! I hate to write bad reviews but this place was sub par. I just wanted a quick bite and this place was handy. I was not greeted when I came in- just stared at by the only server. The BBQ sandwich was just meat on a cold bun and I received  the added bonus of a rock or bone fragment with it! I mentioned it as I paid the check and all that was said to me was that no one else had ever complained about that before. Yea for me!
My sandwich was not very good and pricy for what it was but as a tourist spot I understand that. What I cannot understand is the unfriendly attitude- do they just assume you aren't coming back so there is no reason to be nice?

    Typical of a tourist-centric place.

Good food, but expensive for what you get, with spotty service (due to the crowds and the flighty teenager waitress).

BBQ sauce was surprising good, and complimented the pork rather than overwhelmed it.  I tried both their sweet-mild and hotter sauce.  Both were worthwhile to sample.

With about 45 minutes to kill before the Jack Daniels tour, my brother and I visited the Lynchburg town square for a quick lunch. I consulted my trusty Yelp app and we decided on the BBQ Caboose Cafe. We ordered the BBQ pizza which came with plenty of gooey cheese, pulled pork and sweet BBQ sauce. We really liked it. Lots of interesting stuff hanging on the walls to keep your brain occupied while waiting for your food. Bring cash. No credit cards accepted.

Stopped here after doing the Jack Daniels tour.   Needed to grab something to eat before the 90 minute drive back to Nashville.

Was able to sit anywhere we wanted on this given Saturday.   There was some live music being played when we walked in - not the best musicians - looked like guys just jamming.   The first impression of the place was one of an old time place - not alot of decor with the exception of country music pictures and a train running overhead.

Menu is pretty standard though expected a bit more BBQ.   I got the pulled pork platter which I had with cole slaw and red beans and rice.   The red beans and rice were the star on my plate.    The pulled pork was definitely out of a gas smoker as I could pick up the propane taste in the pork.   An untrained palette probably wouldn't but being a smoker myself I could.   The cole slaw was definitely above average.

The owner was one of the most genuine guys I met.   He was very nice to my nephew who is in the service and had an interesting conversation following that about his family's history in the service.

Would I make a special trip?  No

If I was in the area, would I stop?   Sure.

Have to say Was very disappointed in this place.  Being in Lynchburg you would just think they would have a great BBQ.   The pulled pork sandwich was ok as for flavor, but nothing to write home about, A very small sandwich and it came with Lays chips for I think It was around $6 or so.   Not worth it.   The sweet tea wasnt bad but I only had 1 glass, The waitress was to busy sitting on her butt and playing with her phone. No tip for you.   The decor was cool but not worth going back

Food was blah  and the place was really dirty. Our waitress was very nice and attentive though. I would not go back again.

Decent Pulled Pork place, we ordered a Pulled Pork plate, with which I quickly made a pulled pork sandwich.  There was a generous portion of pulled pork left after that, and coleslaw too.  I tried the two BBQ sauces (hot and normal), and they were both decent, nothing much to talk about.  The regular one was more rich in flavor, but I stuck with hot because I like to have a bit of a kick (and there wasn't much of a kick at all in theirs).  We also ordered a chicken plate, and didn't enjoy it nearly as much since the meat was kinda dry and chickens just not as much fun.  For sides we chose coleslaw, and their "New Orleans" beans and rice.  I thought the sides were pretty tasty, though the plates were all pretty messy, and sloppily (is that a word) put together.  Last but not least, we ordered sweet tea, and I found it very yum and refreshing.

It was a great meal to follow the Jack Daniels tour in Lynchburg, and on that note, don't forget to try the Jack Daniels flavored fudge and ice cream, both are excellent and taste great after some BBQ!

Oh, and no credit cards accepted here, check or cash only.

After the JD tour we were starving and the BF wanted some pulled pork so we decided to stop here and check it out.

It was an off time of day so we could sit wherever we wanted.  You can sit at the long tables in the middle or there's plenty of seating for 2 and 4 people around the perimeter, so I wouldn't say it is really family style seating technically.  The place had the red checkered tablecloths, a train running overhead, lots of kitschy stuff on the walls and bookshelves, etc.  Totally a small town touristy type of place.  Note the sign that says NO CREDIT CARDS, ATM IN BACK because you will need to know that if you are like me and do not carry cash around ever.

Peruse the menu and you will be a bit confused.  So I can get pulled pork bbq plate or sandwich, pizza, or jambalaya?  Strange but in a small town I think they probably have to cater to the entire place.  But who doesn't like pulled pork?  Come on!  No ribs which is a bit of a travesty.  As another reviewer said, no brisket, but we aren't in TX and we don't do brisket often down here in TN sooooo don't come here looking for it.  Anyway, we got some pulled pork with chips and slaw.  Not great BBQ but seriously not that bad either.  The hot sauce set this sandwich off though!  Finally, a sauce that is a BBQ sauce, thicker in consistency, with sweet but also with actual HEAT.  Done!  We bought 2 bottles of this because it was good.  In actuality, the sauce is what brought this bad boy up from 3 to 4 stars.  Yum!  The other reason 4 stars - um, something was up with their fountain soda machine.  And by that I mean it was so awesome!  You know, when you get a fountain diet Coke and it is SO fizzy and SO cold and has that great BITE that you suck the entire thing down in 5 seconds because it is THAT refreshing?  When you find a fountain like that you get refills multiple times over.  Gah it was greatness!

Overall not a bad place, especially if you want to fly by the seat of your pants and don't want to make a reservation at Miss Mary Bobo's.  Give it a try when you are down there.

Love this place! Touch high on price but good food. BBQ pizza is the best thing .its where we go when we are in town for the bike rally or when ever.

Stopped here for a quick bite after visiting the distillery.  We just had a pulled pork sandwich and it was pretty good.  The bbq sauce was very good; wish I would have taken some home with me.  Next time I'm in town, I'll swing by and try something else.  Well worth the stop if you have a couple extra minutes.

Not a good place for a tourist in the area, but perhaps the locals like it. There are two items related to BBQ on the menu: pulled pork and bbq chicken. Umm, where's the stew, baked beans, ribs, and brisket? Oh, those must have been replaced by the pizza, red beans and rice, and chips. I just don't understand how the Caboose Cafe can have the word Bar-B-Que in their name with the little amount of actual bbq on the menu.

It's a family-style seating arrangement, so be prepared to sit next to strangers. I'm personally not a fan, but some people like it. The service when I went was slow, but then again, it was full of tourists.

This place is really not a BBQ spot, especially for the Southeast.

They have pulled pork (either on a sandwich or as a plate) and some bbq chicken.  Other than that, this is more of a typical lunch spot where you can get some sandwiches and a hot dog.  There is also a strange bit of Cajun food in the form of red beans and rice and other Cajun favorites.

Didn't get a chance to eat here because of slow service.  We waited 15-20 mins. and didn't even get a drink order in.

I wouldn't come back because I saw some food come out and it didn't look that great.  You'll also be crammed in to this small spot.

It actually says on the menu "if you didn't have a good time here, it wasn't our fault", but I have to disagree with that.

Really cheesy place for tourists that didn't deliver, literally.

A few years ago, I went here with my dad after touring Jack Daniels. I remember walking around the square and we thought this place looked good. I've always like trains, so I'm sure that had something to do with it.

I don't honestly remember too much about the food. However, I'm sure that if it had been horrible, I would remember. So, I feel "safe" giving this place 4 stars. From what I do remember, we enjoyed our meal and didn't leave hungry.  We both ordered the pulled pork bbq.

This place would be good if you have kids. The decor is busy, so there wouldn't be a lot for them to look at while you are dining.

Great pulled pork and a nice atmosphere. Quick and friendly service. A nice place to stop after the JD tour. The chicken was just ok, but the baked beans, slaw, and white bread and butter were great. The Cajun red beans and rice weren't Cajun but different and pretty good. Socialists Beware- they had the Tea Party Anthem on repeat:)

A fun little lunch place that's a stone's throw away from the Jack Daniel's Distillery. Easy to get a table, very fast service, and a constant revolving door of live music (albeit mostly Johnny Cash covers).

My pulled pork was tasty, the regular BBQ sauce was good, and the coleslaw was yummy. Nothing was bad, and nothing was outstanding, it was simply a nice place to stop for a bite after the JDD walking tour.

As a side-note, the menu is very small, you've basically got a few sandwiches, some pulled pork, and pizza to choose from. Everyone in town was saying that Miss Mary Bobo's was the place to go, but we had a nice meal here and would definitely go back. Also, quite affordable, with no meals over $10 that I noticed on the menu.

What an adorable restaurant in the most adorable town square. A visit to Lynchburg would not be complete without a walk around the old-timey town square. The Caboose, along with Miss Mary Bobo's and The Iron Kettle adds up to give Lynchburg some mighty fine southern style dining to its credit. The Bar-B-Que Caboose is decorated like a train, as you'd expect, and the food is good and cheap. What more could you want? The waitresses (in Lynchburg, it's not politically incorrect to use that term) are saucy and spicy and loads of fun. Service here is what "Southern charm" is all about. A good second choice if Miss Mary Bobo's is all booked up.

We enjoyed having lunch here after touring the Jack Daniel's Distillery. We met the owner & his wife, and heard the last big of the band which was playing. The food was good and inexpensive. $5 for a sandwich, and $8 for a dinner plate with three sides. I would recommend stopping by here if your in Lynchburg, TN.
