I suspect that the ratings for Bar Harbor differ a bit if you live in the area versus from those that vacation and enjoy dinner here as part of a special outing.  We enjoyed it very much. Great ambiance and our service (which seems to be a complaint from many reviewers) was very good.

Drinks were good!  Well made - not too strong...but not too weak and everyone enjoyed them.  The appetizers were tasty - calamari and walleye fingers - breaded and deep fried and acceptable but nothing to rave over.

Dinner however was spectacular!  We went with a group of 9 - everyone ordered a bit differently.  I had a rib eye (they have it "Cajun style" on the menu, but I ordered it with the brandy-peppercorn demi-glaze) - perhaps one of the best prepared and tastiest steaks I've had in years.  Several in the group have walleye.  My partner had a pasta with chicken and Gorgonzola.  A couple in the party had sandwiches.  Everyone was happy with the food - not a single complaint from anyone around the table.  Prices were high...but again, we were on vacation and it was special occasion and with the quality of the food that we ate, it seems worth the price.

I would return - and hope too!

Went here with my girlfriends last Saturday night and had the worst service ever. We waited in the bar area for at least 20 minutes and were never approached by a server. Then we were seated at our table at 9:15, said we wanted water and had to ask for it twice. We also asked for bread and after asking twice again (as many staff people passed by our table) I had to ask the manager for it. The food was mediocre at best. The strawberry spinach salad had way too many cherry tomatoes and had feta on it with a sweet dressing; just a really bad combination. The burger was ok, and the walleye was fine.

They really need to work on their food and service at this place because it should match the high end decor. I would be happier just sitting on the patio, and next time I will if I go back. I miss the old Bar Harbor of the past. It was a classic and the food and service were great.

I noticed the owner sitting at the booth in the bar and he was smiling and happy, getting fantastic service. He needs to think about some improvements for Bar Harbor because we were all very disappointed with the experience.

Overpriced, poor service, so-so food, but a terrific building in a perfect location. Twenty years of family tradition dictates we visit each July 4th vacation. The time with family is what matters most.

It's back and better than ever. The burgers are awesome. The scallops with coconut risotto are rich and delectable. The tuna on the Nisswa salad could be a bit higher in quality, but the real star is the crabcake app. Love the creative twists the chef is putting to this menu.

Nice place, nice atmosphere, good food. I'm not a local, so I don't know what their competition is like as I was treated to lunch here by relatives when I was in town for a family reunion. I was impressed with the decor and the view of the lake was very nice. I had the walleye sandwich (which quickly become a favorite while I was in Minnesota) and wasn't disappointed.

I've been visiting Gull Lake and Bar Harbor for 17 years.  In the past, it was one of our favorite spots for happy hour, casual lunches on the patio or dinner and dancing inside (our kids LOVED the dance floor).

The newly revamped restaurant has completely changed.  The outdoor menu is overpriced and the food is mediocre.  The waitstaff seems totally unprepared to deal with busy afternoons and evenings on the patio which should be no surprise to them on beautiful Minnesota summer nights.  In one instance, we waited over an hour for our food and the waiter came up with some story that our order must have been set to the end of the pile...he later added he "might" have forgotten to put our order in.  FYI, we were a large party, but definitely NOT the only large on on the patio.  I will say, however, the fire pit is a lovely addition!

The inside remodel is beautiful, but the feel is stuffy and over-dressed.  Don't get me wrong, I definitely enjoy a trendy, upscale restaurant in the Twin Cities, but it just doesn't seem to fit here.  Again, the prices compared to the quality of the food just don't match up.

Gluten-free nightmare! We got word that Bar Harbor was finally reopened after an extensive remodel and decided to go there for dinner after a day on the boat. The two of us and an 8 year-old sat on the outdoor patio which has a completely different menu then inside and, according to our server, even has a different kitchen. The menu was basically fried baskets and sandwiches/burgers. I have an allergy to gluten and cannot eat the bun.

I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich but asked to have no bun and some extra lettuce (not a problem anywhere else I have gone). The server then informed me that the kitchen is to busy to do such an outlandish request but she will go ask anyway. When she came back, she said that she put the order in but the kitchen is backed up by 40 min so we will just have to wait and see if they can do it. I told her that we have an 8 year old with us and cannot wait 40 min to just cross our fingers and hope it is right, so please cancel our order and we will be on our way. She looked at me and said, "Ha. Well, they won't care!"

There was a manager standing right there who heard the whole thing and just looked the other way. Not an appropriate way for the manager, server, or kitchen to handle the situation. I will not be back, as I cannot trust that this place cares enough not make me sick!

This place gets four stars, if someone else is paying. :)
I recently dined at the new Bar Harbor Supper Club for my boyfriend's birthday, along with his parents. We've eaten here before, even stopped at the outdoor bar for a drink off the boat.
The new remodel is gorgeous. It reminds me of a Tommy Bahama store or restaurant you'd find in Florida. The outdoor space was also redone beautifully, with new docks, chairs, and lawn area. Bar Harbor is also known, for some reason, for attracting the drivers of the old, beautiful Chris Craft boats, which is great "people watching" as well.
Now the dining experience- this was a Saturday night, and I was prepared for a good long dinner event. The place was crowded, and apparently reservations are a must now for dinner, so I am glad we had them.
We started with drinks- beer for us, thanks. They had a great tap selection, including some of the newer and better local Brainerd beers. Our waitress was attentive and patient with the parents, but had a few too many tables to tend to- everything took FOREVER to arrive. No matter- we were in this for the night.
Both the BF's  mom and I tried to order the chicken- but they were out?!? Maybe it's not understanding your demand well, but how do you run out of chicken? I tried the small sirloin instead- there was plenty of food for me! (salad, potatoes, bread, broccolini, and steak) The steak was done pretty much how I liked it, and came out warm and ready to eat.
The rest of the family had broiled walleye, garlic shrimp, and the steak sandwich. My small bites of everything tasted good- although the shrimp seemed a little overdone, and the au gratin got cold pretty quickly.

Top it all off with a free birthday brownie sundae, and it was a good night!

Tip: On the weekend nights, there's a piano man in the bar area now. That was pleasant until some of the neighborhood cougars started their sing-along as the night went on. Maybe ask for the dining room if you'll be here a little later and want to avoid the cackles.

I loved Bar Harbor before, but even more so now. The remodel is absolutely beautiful!

Located in Nisswa, off of Lake Shore, on Gull Lake, the new Bar Harbor offers stunning views of the lake, a fun casual, yet upscale atmosphere, & a wonderful new menu.

The space is beautifully adorned in dark wood, with classic chandeliers, a large bar, & giant windows. I especially enjoyed the wood fan lines that are continuously swinging back & forth. The wine locker room is beautifully done in the dark wood in a circular room. Outside, the patio provides a large stone fire pit with a circle of seating. Just lovely.

The menu has changed as well, consisting of starters, salads, soups, steak, seafood, pastas, & dessert. On this particular occasion, we tried the Szechuan green beans, which we just alright. On to a well-executed caesar salad with fresh romaine, anchovies, parmesan, & just the right amount of dressing. Our main dishes consisted of the broiled walleye, a double Cajun pork chop, & an 8oz. sirloin. The complements consisted of augratins, wild rice, & creamed spinach. Everything was fantastic, but the pork chop & creamed spinach were the all around favorites. The pork chop was probably the best I have ever experienced @ a dining establishment. Cooked to perfection & well-seasoned. Yum! Dessert consisted of tiramisu & coffee. Both of these were good.

Our server was efficient, pleasant, & helpful. We had a great experience @ the new Bar Harbor & can't wait to visit again!

Food was good and hot but it took 1 3/4 hours to get it. We had hungry kids, owners gave no help.

Sunday afternoon, been waiting 40 minutes and still no food and no apologies for the wait. Fried shrimp smelled fishy. Heard a server tell a large party the cooks weren't used to dealing with large parties!

Went to Bar Harbor on the Fourth of July for dinner and drinks with my family. The patio offers a great view of the lake and you can drive your boat to the restaurant and dock while you eat. The patio only offers "basket food," which is mostly fried food and burgers.

We ate dinner in the dining room. The menu mostly features steaks and seafood. On Sundays they have a prime ribe special for $16. I had the walley broiled almandine. It was just OK. It tasted a little fishy and lacked flavor. The chicken stuffed with cheese and prosciutto was probably my favorite dish.

In summary, this a great place to go for a view of the lake, the prices are reasonable and the food is average.
